All of us girls can agree on one thing: breakups are the worst.  No one enjoys breaking it off with someone or especially being broken up with!  Although they’re never fun, there are some breakups that are better than others.  Here are 5 different types of breakups that most of us have experienced at least once!

  1. The friendly breakup.  Aren’t these the best?  You know and agree that you both aren’t right for each other so you end on a civil note.  You can still have friendly conversations without it being awkward or hostile!
  2. The heartbreaking breakup.  These breakups are the ones you never ever want to experience.  They’re the breakups that leave you with sleepless nights and lots of heartache.  If you’ve experienced this before, just know you’re not alone!
  3. The angry breakup.  Having built up grudges and anger especially at the end of a breakup makes parting ways 10x harder.  I know for me, I hate when people are mad at me or when a situation leaves me boiling up inside!
  4. The one-sided breakup.  Depending on what side you’re on, you can either leave feeling relieved or extremely heartbroken.  It’s the worst when you’re more invested in someone than they are in you.
  5. The end result breakup.  This is the breakup that you both expected no matter how much you wanted to deny it.  I think we’ve all experienced this at some point in our dating life.  You didn’t want to admit it, but you knew breaking up would be the end result!

Which breakup do you think is the worst?  One day we’ll have a relationship that won’t ever have to end in a breakup!

5 Signs that You’re in the Right Relationship

It’s a pretty terrifying thing to know when the person you’re dating isn’t the one for you.  You know they’re too different from you or that you both are going down two totally different paths.  BUT when you meet someone that’s perfect for you, there are certain signs to assure you that you’re in the right relationship!  They do say you know when you know right? 🙂

  • You’re on the same page.  It’s so good to have the same beliefs, morals, and plans as each other.  I’m not saying you can’t differ on things but it’s better to have similar wants and mindsets as one another!
  • Trust.  If you can’t trust the person you’re dating, maybe you should reevaluate why you can’t trust him in the first place.  Maybe something in your past makes it hard for you to trust, but if you truly can’t trust what he’s saying, that’s a major red flag!
  • Openness.  Openness and honesty are two of the best things to have in a relationship.  It’s nice to be with someone that you can tell everything to and rely on them to do the same!
  • God is the center of your relationship.  This may not be the case for everybody, but for my relationship, I like to keep God in the center.  If you glorify God with your relationship, you’re most likely on the same page and everything else will fall into place!
  • You have fun together.  Nothing’s better than kicking back and laughing till you cry, especially with the person you’re dating.  As important as it is to have those serious moments, it’s just as important to have the fun ones, as well!

Are you in a relationship?  What do you think about these signs?  Let me know in the comments below!

5 Ways to Know If Something Is from God

Everything comes from God and everything can be credited back to the creator of the universe.  The sky, the ocean, our family, our house… these are just a few examples of the many things God has so graciously given us.  But other things, the not so good and the not so desired, can be hard to know if they’re actually from God.  Here are 5 ways to know if something is from God!

  • Simply ask. Pray. There is so much more power in prayer than we realize. Ask God to reveal to your heart whatever it is you’re struggling with.  You will hear God’s tiny whispers that can reveal so much more than you thought prayer could!
  • Look into scripture. Without even realizing it, some of the answers you’re searching for can be written directly into scripture.  Even simply googling “What does the Bible say about _____” can give you answers that are guaranteed to be from God since they’re written in His word!
  • Ask someone more knowledgeable about the topic. If you have a spiritual leader in your life, ask them for their own opinion.  Sometimes all we need is someone else’s input to see what we’re missing.
  • Be patient. Patience is key!  I can’t stress this enough.  Maybe God doesn’t want you to know right away what he’s doing in your life.  Be still!
  • Trust that God has your best interest. Sometimes we don’t always want what God has placed in our life, but I assure you it’s something God knows we need.

I hope this helps you in times of confusion and frustration.  Remember that every good and perfect gift comes from God!

Running is a great way to lose fat and shed pounds! But, not all of us love pounding the pavement. Running can seem like a daunting task, and we can definitely dread it. Not everyone was born to be a runner! If you have been trying to shed some pounds but dislike running, then you will want to hear about these next exercises that burn more fat than running.

  1. Jumping jacks: Doing jumping jacks will help burn fat because you are forcing your body to use multiple muscles at once. Increased heart rate + using multiple muscles at the same time = a recipe for fat loss.
  2. Stair climber: This is one of my favorite machines at the gym. This gives you an amazing leg workout and is easier on your joints than running. This machine can give you the same muscle benefits that running can without stressing your joints as much.
  3. Swimming: Swimming may be one of the best forms of cardio there is. You are working muscles all over your body! Because swimming causes you to use so much energy, it is great for burning fat.

Next time you find yourself dreading your run, remember that there are other ways to burn fat! You can get in some great cardio by doing the exercises listed above.

Unique Ways to Spend Your Father’s Day

When Mother’s Day was just around the corner, I wrote a blog post about different, unique ways you could spend that special day with your mom!  But since we’re finally in the month of Father’s Day, I thought I’d come up with a few ideas that are more centered around dads but still fun for your whole family!

  • If your dad is the typical dad that’s always down to golf, take him golfing for the day!  Chelsea Crockett - Baseball GameYou can go play a full round or even just hit up the driving range for a couple hours.  If you’re not a golfer, maybe even try taking him mini golfing.  It’s a great way to bond over something he likes to do!
  • Instead of going out to eat to celebrate, offer to help your dad grill a big dinner for your whole family!  That way, you can learn how to grill and spend time with your dad at the same time.  Sometimes just offering a helping hand can make his day!
  • Sit your dad down a week or so before Father’s Day and ask him what his ideal day would be, then make it happen!  Maybe he wants to go to a baseball game or fishing on the lake.  Whatever it is, make it happen since it’s his special day!
  • Bring out the little kid in him!  He may not say it, but it might just make his day to go camping, go-karting, etc.  Get out and be adventurous!

Which idea are you going to treat your dad to this year?  Share with me in the comments below!  Maybe my dad and I are doing the same!

Happy Father’s Day! – Chelsea

I absolutely love to travel, and thank goodness for that because I travel often! Just recently I went to New York City promoting my new book! Because I travel bunches, I spend lots of time in airports. Now, I wouldn’t say I am an expert at airports, but I know a thing or two that makes traveling in them a little less of a chore. Here are 4 of my top airport hacks to help save you time and money!

  1. Bring your own snacks: Try as hard as you can to avoid buying snacks and drinks at the airport. They are waaaay overpriced. Pack travel snacks like granola bars and trail mix to munch on. Also, pack an empty water bottle in your luggage to fill up once you pass security.
  2. Wear the extra luggage: If your carry-on is close to the weight limit, wear your heaviest pieces and layer them to get past security. After you have gone through, head to the bathroom and take off the layers and pack them up. You might want to keep a jacket or sweater out of your bag, airports and planes can get chilly!
  3. Store your laptop in an easily accessed place: When you go through security they scan your laptop, which means you have to take it out of your luggage. Don’t be that person riffling through their suitcase, holding up the line at security because you packed your laptop in a hard to reach place!
  4. Make your luggage distinguishable: Standing around, waiting for your luggage after a long day of traveling is the worst part of the day. If you tie colored ribbons or fabric onto the handles of your luggage you will be able to quickly find it, grab it, and be on your merry way.
  5. Bring a portable battery charger: Airports do have charging stations, but they are usually majorly crowded. To make sure your phone never runs out of juice, carry a portable battery charger with you. That way you can charge it while you are waiting AND during your flight!

Happy travels!

Quiet time: a peaceful time to spend with God and meditate on His Word.  Have you ever set aside a half hour or so to spend solely with God?  I understand that you may be busy or simply don’t feel motivated to get up and do it, and that’s okay!  There are different ways to get you excited, stay encouraged and motivated, and find joy in quiet times!

  1. Make sure you have all you need before you sit down to do a quiet time!  Chelsea Crockett - Quiet TimesBe sure to have a Bible, journal, pen, and devotional or lesson to walk through.
  2. Set aside a specific time each day to devote solely to your quiet time.  I usually try to get in at least 30 minutes, but you can start small with 10 or 15, or even 5 minutes before you head to school or work!
  3. Find a spot to do your quiet time.  If you like the outdoors, find a place outside such as under your favorite tree or by a lake!  You can even try out places like Starbucks or other coffee shops that have a relaxing atmosphere.
  4. Pick a certain devotional.  This allows you to have a specific game plan when you sit down.  Print out questions from online that go with specific verses or even get a guided devotional app on your phone!
  5. Find an accountability partner.  If your friend is wanting to start doing quiet times, keep each other accountable.  Text each other at the end of the day to make sure you both did one for the day!

I encourage you to try and set aside time once a day or even once a week.  You’ll notice a huge difference in your life and yourself!

Picture this: you lay down in bed after a long day, close your eyes, and toss and turn for the next three hours.  Sound familiar?  Anxiety can affect your mind and body, especially when you lay down at night and try to sleep!  We’ve all been there, but we don’t have to be!  Here are three night remedies to reduce anxiety.

  • If you know you get anxious late at night or before you go to sleep, purchase a lavender candle or lavender-scented room spray.  Light your candle 30 min before bed so your room is filled with a lavender aroma when you lay down to sleep!  Chelsea Crockett - Hot BathIf you forget to light your candle or don’t want to fall asleep with it burning, spray around your bed with lavender room spray.  The scent of lavender is proven to lower blood pressure and reduce anxiety!  Maybe even put a drop of lavender essential oil on your bed, pillow, or skin.
  • Take a hot bath!  Hot baths are already known for their relaxing aromas, but adding just a simple ingredient can make them 10x more calming.  What is it you ask?  Epsom salts!  These release an inorganic chemical called magnesium sulfate which has shown to lower blood pressure and reduce anxiety.  It truly calms you down!
  • Ever heard of chamomile tea?  Most people use it to make them sleep, but it works for anxiety just as well!  It supposedly releases chemicals that help you to relax.  There are many studies that have shown a dramatic decrease in anxiety for those who drink chamomile tea daily!

Which remedy works best for you?  Try them out and let me know!

First dates can be extremely nerve-racking, but they can also be a great time to really get to know the each other!  First dates usually mean first impressions, so there are many things to consider before, and during, your date.  If you’re new to the dating world, or could still use as much help as you can get, here are a few things to keep in mind!

  • Your outfit.  Chelsea Crockett - First DateUnfortunately, most of the time first impressions are based a lot on appearance.  I suggest wearing something that will reflect who you are.  If you’re bubbly and like to rock bright colors, go for it!
  • Where to go.  If he didn’t already decide where you guys are going, suggest somewhere that will make you most comfortable!  If you’re nervous about too much small talk over dinner, see a movie instead.  Or if you’d rather do something a little less formal than dinner, go mini golfing or hiking!
  • How he treats you.  Notice how he treats you especially since it’s your first time on an actual date with each other.  Pay attention to his manners such as if he’s on his phone a lot or if he’s only talking about himself!
  • Red flags.  These are so important!  Notice if he says or does something that you would automatically consider a red flag.
  • Keeping an open mind.  Doing this allows you to be open to something you might not be expecting.  Maybe you thought you had the person figured out but he could be much better than you’re expecting!

I hope your first date is everything you’re hoping for and more!

For those of you that just graduated high school, you will all soon be going your separate ways and following your different paths.  Whether your friends are going to college close to home or moving into a school across the country, everyone could use a college starter pack to take along with them!  It’s a perfect gift idea for upcoming grad parties. That being said, here’s what you’ll need to put in it!

  • Gum.  Chelsea Crockett - Freshman Starter KitOkay, but really… You can never have too many packs of gum, especially as a college student!  Having gum at-hand to pop in during class or after the dining hall is essential!
  • A pic of you and them.  Get your favorite picture of you and them developed for them to put it up somewhere in their dorm room.  You can even frame it so they can use it as decoration!
  • Advil.  This is essential considering your mom won’t be there to take care of you when you get sick!  It helps to start you off with some medicine in case you get a head or stomach ache.
  • An adhesive phone pocket.  If you don’t know what these are, they’re a stick-on pocket you stick to the back of your phone.  This is perfect for holding your dorm access keys, college ID, money, etc.
  • Microwavable meals/snacks.  These are crucial!  Having food you can make right in your dorm are one of the most important must-haves of college.  Late night snacks will come in handy!

I hope this makes your college transition a little easier! 🙂

It’s graduation season ladies and gentlemen, which means lots of graduation ceremonies, parties, and gifts!  If you have a lot of graduation parties to attend, the gifts can get pretty expensive and start to add up.  Here are a few DIY gift ideas that are just as good as any other graduation gift but won’t break the bank!

  • DIY canvas.Chelsea Crockett - Canvas  I know this might seem pretty basic, but creating a canvas to match your friend’s dorm room is a fun, artsy gift!  You can add her favorite saying, verse, quote, etc. like the picture on the right.
  • High school scrapbook.  If you guys were close in high school, ask your friends to put together a page to add to a scrapbook for her!  You and your friends can even all go in on it together.  It’s thoughtful and memorable!
  • A bracelet/necklace/keychain with their school’s colors.  There are so many Etsy DIY accessories that you can customize to say certain things or be a certain color.  Customize it to have her name on it or her class year and her future school’s colors!
  • Freshman year survival kit.  Everyone could use one of these!  You basically put together a basket, or “kit,” filled with different essentials every freshman needs such as pencils, snacks, band-aids, etc.
  • College gear.  I know when I left for college, I wanted every shirt, sweatshirt, bumper sticker, etc. that my school had to offer!  Order something online or check out the college’s bookstore for a cute shirt or other souvenirs!

Which idea is your favorite?  Let me know in the comment section below!

The road to flat abs is not an easy one. Sometimes it can feel like you are getting nowhere yet you are trying so hard! Don’t give up, keep the faith and keep going! Here are 3 things to do daily that get rid of belly bloat and sculpt your core to help you on the road to flat abs this summer.

  1. Workout in the A.M.: Starting the day with an ab workout that targets your core muscles helps kick start your metabolism and tones your tummy for the day to come. If you are planning a day on the beach or something tighter fitting, doing an ab workout in the morning can tighten your ab muscles and act like a corset, helping define your waist.
  2. Eat some breakfast: Eating breakfast is key to flat abs. Your first meal of the day kicks your metabolism into gear and prevents you from making bad morning snack decisions (AKA donuts. Mmmmmm.) Eating dairy or salty fatty foods for breakfast can cause bloating, so avoid them if you want a tight tummy! Also, to shrink your tummy and prevent bloating, eat oatmeal.
  3. Bump up your cardio: All exercise is good exercise, but when it comes to shrinking your tummy, interval workouts are the best! High-intensity workouts burn calories the fastest. Try a treadmill interval workout or a sprinting workout to mix things up.

Say hello to summer with these daily flat ab “do’s”!

I think peace is something we all could use a little more of.  Whether you’re in a stressful season in your life, going through a tough break-up, or even just feeling anxious, praying for peace can make a world of a difference.  When I sit down to pray, it’s sometimes hard to find the right words to say.  If you have this problem at times too, here are 5 ways to pray for peace!

  1. Pray for trust.Chelsea Crockett - Peace  Trust is something I think we all struggle with at times.  Praying for trust will take away any anxiety or stress you may be having because you’ll start to truly believe that God has a plan for each of us.
  2. Pray for strength.  Having the strength to get through any situation will help you through all seasons of your life.  If you have the strength to get through one low of your life, you can get through them all!
  3. Pray to hear God’s voice.  God’s voice is real and present, and you will hear it if you listen.  Pray to hear what God is trying to tell you and you may find the direction that you’ve been searching for.
  4. Pray one day at a time.  Taking things one day at a time really does make a huge difference.  Start the day with a prayer to give you strength and trust for the day ahead!
  5. Pray for patience.  Patience is a virtue, and if you can learn to be still and patient, you will gain more peace than you could’ve imagined.

I hope this helps bring back some peace into your life.  God is good and He’ll listen to your prayers!

I feel like Mother’s Day is one of those holidays that always sneaks up on me so fast!  Coming up with the perfect gift and day to plan out isn’t easy, but I always get it done in time to surprise my mom with a great day.  I wanted to think out of the box this year, so I came up with a few unique ways to spend Mother’s Day!

  • Buy supplies at the store and plant some flowers together!Chelsea Crockett - DIY Flower Pots  You can even buy pots to decorate with paints, stencils, and other things to customize them.  You and your mom can go to the store together and pick out which seeds you want to plant, too.  Make sure you remember to give it lots of water and sunlight!
  • Take a “staycation.”  This is when you go to a nearby big city (or the city you live in if you’re not close to a bigger one) and create a whole day filled with plans that you and your mom can do together!  This could be anything from going to eat somewhere you’ve always wanted to and exploring different spots around town.  Living near St. Louis, it’s always fun to plan a relaxing day around the city!
  • Now this idea is a little outside the box but perfect for a bigger group of people.  Something called Escape the Room is so, so fun for a group of about 10 or so people.  Grab your mom, aunt, grandma, etc. and work together to make it out in time!  They’re getting more and more popular so look for one in your city!

What are you doing this year for Mother’s Day?  Let me know below!

If you’re still in high school, you may be unfamiliar with the term “formal.”  Formals are kind of like the college version of a homecoming dance put on by a fraternity or sorority!  If you’re new to the college world and need some advice on an upcoming spring formal, here are some tips and pointers!

  • You don’t have to have a date in order to go to formal. Chelsea Crockett - Romper More girls go solo than you think.  Get dressed up, grab a group of friends, and go have fun by yourself!
  • Although you should dress up, dresses aren’t a must.  You can rock a fancy romper and heels (such as the picture on the right) or a stylish jumpsuit.  Unlike high school homecomings, you’ll see tight and loose dresses, dresses and rompers, wedges and heels, etc.
  • Don’t be afraid to hit the dance floor.  Unlike high school dances where it can sometimes be awkward to dance, most people will be dancing at formal!  No one cares what you look like or whether or not you have a date.  Get out of your chairs and dance like crazy!
  • You can make plans before and after just like you did for high school dances.  Get ready with your friends beforehand, make dinner reservations, and host an afterparty!
  • Formals are a lot more laid back, and a lot less stressful, than prom and homecoming.  Like I said, you don’t have to bring a date or make a day full of plans surrounding the event.  Just simply have fun!

Have fun at your formal and make lots and lots of memories! 🙂
