Tips to Help you Get Along with your Roomie

Do you have a roommate? Are you going to have one soon? Sometimes they can be your best bud, and other times they can be a pain in your boootay. Living in a room the size of an airplane bathroom can be tough on anyone. Here are a few ways on how to keep your cool with your roomie!

1. Be Honest

If you know you are a night owl or a neat freak, tell your roommate. Ask what their pet peeves are so you know to avoid doing those things, and always try and be open to their opinions and concerns.

keep-calm-and-stick-to-the-roommate-agreement

2. Address Issues Right Away

When an argument or problem arises, talk to your roommate immediately. Don’t complain to other people or tweet about it! It is better to calmly approach your roommate and let them know what is bothering you. A lot of issues start off small but can escalate super quickly if they are not addressed right away!

The Golden Rule totally applies here. Treat your roommate as you would like to be treated. This means, don’t borrow clothes without asking or eat your roommate’s food without permission. Don’t bring a ton of friends to the room when you know they have a big exam the next day that they are studying for. Also, always ask before bringing friends over to the room! 3. Be Respectful

I hope you have a great time at college, make tons of friends, and even better roomates! J

Being friends with your ex can be a really great thing. It can also be a really hard thing to achieve! Here are a few pointers to help you become friends with your ex.

1. Make sure that you tow are really interested in being just friends. If you want to start a friendship with an ex with hopes of getting back together, then you are not ready to be friends. Take some time to really think about if you are really ready to be just friends. An easy way to see if you are ready is to ask yourself how you would feel if you heard that your ex was dating someone new. If the thought makes you mad or insanely jealous, then you are not ready!chelsea crockett ex

2. Don’t rush. You may be eager to see your ex again, but keep in mind that you may still have feelings for them and feel emotionally tied to them. Wait to begin a friendship until your emotional feelings have lessened.

3. When you finally do start to hang out with your ex, dress appropriately. You want to look good in front of your ex, but you also don’t want to send the wrong message! Also, when you do meet with your ex, do so in a public place so that you can avoid awkward moments alone!

Like I said, being friends with your ex can be good! You just need to know the right way to go about it.

Are you ever at a party and its kinda awkward because you don’t really know the people there? I have a super sweet idea for a “getting to know you” game that is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Why? It involves chocolate! I’m in! This game can be played in any situation that you need to break the ice.

Have each person take a handful of M&Ms and put them in a plastic cup so they don’t melt in their hands. For each color of M&M, you have to answer a specific question. Here are some examples:

–          Red- something that happened yesterday.

–          Orange- something you are good at.chelsea crockett

–          Yellow- something about your childhood.

–          Blue- something you cannot live without.

–          Brown- something you learned last week.

–          Green- something you like to watch/listen to.

This kind of activity not only makes things less awkward because you get to talking and learning about each other, it is also delicious! Try this out next time you have a gathering or a few friends over.

Keeping a prayer journal can do wonders for your walk with God. How? Let me tell you!

Keeps your mind on task: I don’t know about you, but sometimes when I am praying my mind seems to wander off and get on another subject.  By writing your prayers down you are keeping your mind on task and it will keep you from daydreaming! Writing out prayers might take a little longer than thinking them, but at least the time is actually spent in prayer.

Allows you to keep track of your prayers: By keeping a journal, you can look back and see who you were praying for, what you were praying for, and how God has answered your prayers! I think it is so cool to look back on the prayers I said in the past and see how God has answered them.chelsea crockett prayer journal

Makes you closer to God: Communication is vital in any relationship, and it is even more important in your relationship to God. The more praying you do to him, the closer you will be. Lay all of your worries, burdens, and anything else that is heavy on your heart, on Him. God loves to listen to you!

Keeping a prayer journal will transform your walk with Christ!

P.S. If you get a really cute prayer journal, it will make you want to write in it even more! Just a little tip 🙂

Love ya,

XOXO, Chels

Why is the world so violent and evil?

Sin is the root cause of all evil.  Because people sin, the world is filled with sin and evil.  It has been this way since Adam and Eve’s first sin.good_evil_post

In some ways it may seem that violence is worse today than in the past.  Weapons are more destructive than ever before.  There are more guns and knives and more ways of hurting people than ever before.  As these weapons get more powerful, so does the power to hurt others.

But in reality, violence and evil come out of evil hearts that are separated from God.  As long as people rebel against God, we will have violence and evil in the world.

Key Verse: Romans 12:21

Social Media: Watch What You Post

I’m sure you all are on social media, am I right? If not, at least you have probably heard of it! I’m talking about Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, all that jazz. Today I am going to tell you how important it is for you to watch what you say and post on social media, because when you post something, it is out there forever.

I know how tempting it might be to comment on someone’s picture or status and tell them how you really feel, but hold your tongue. Watch what you say, because other people are watching how you react and respond such as future employers. Yes, I said it, your future boss can look you up on social media and see just who you really are! That is an important point. Do not post anything on the internet that you wouldn’t want your boss/parents to see, because it will find their way to them.  According to CareerBuilder.com, 25% of employers check your social media sites when deciding whether or not to hire you.chelsea crockett social media

Also, never put much personal information on social media sites. By posting where you are at all times and putting personal information in your “bio” on the sites, you could put yourself in danger. Another risk of social media is cyber bullying.  Odds are, you have been cyber bullied or you have been the one bullying. Cyber bullying can be something as simple as commenting on someone’s status or picture with a rude remark. Words hurt, girls. Next time you are tempted to comment on something or post something mean, think about the verse Luke 6:31, which says “Do unto others as you would have them do to you.” I know it might be hard to hold your tongue, but be the bigger person!

I hope this article makes you think twice before posting anything on social media!

Love you guys,

Myths About The Sun

The sun can be your best friend and your worst enemy.  It’ll give you that lovely tan, but also give you a harsh burn.    Protecting your skin from the sun is extremely important and there are many myths about the sun.  Many think that sun screen will break your skin out, or that you don’t need to wear sunscreen, because you have naturally tan skin.  These are myths!  Don’t let these fool you.Chelsea Crockett- Oil Free Sunscreen

Most girls hate wearing sunscreen on their face, because they are afraid they will break out.  It’s normal to think that, but not true at all!  UV rays actually trigger acne and can make your skin much worse.  Many sun screen brands make oil free face sunscreen to keep your face from breaking out.  Coppertone Oil Free Faces is a great face sunscreen.  You can even buy it here: http://tiny.cc/Coppertone_Sunscreen

Tanning beds are extremely popular, especially with teenage girls like me.  Most think they aren’t that bad, but in reality, tanning in a tanning bed raises your chances of getting skin cancer by 75%!  That’s a huge percentage.  Think before you go “fake bake.”

The last myth about the sun is that waterproof sunscreen doesn’t need to be reapplied.  False! It is absolutely necessary to reapply about every two hours.  Waterproof sunscreen just means that it won’t come off in the water, but that doesn’t mean it won’t fade.  Stay safe in the sun and kick these myths!

Hold on folks, because here comes…what NOT to wear when meeting his parents!

Okay, ladies. Let’s start off with the makeup. Do NOT cake on the makeup. Don’t wear crazy colors or super thick eyeliner, you want them to see you for you! Wear makeup that accents your natural assets. When choosing what shades to wear, neutrals are ALWAYS safe. Go for a light smokey eye and brush on a little blush! Next, do NOT wear a mini skirt or booty shorts. I know that this is a “duuuhhh” for most of you, but I just wanted to point it out! Modest is hottest 🙂Chelsea Crockett

Wear bottoms that come just at or below your knees. Bermuda shorts or ankle pants are always a safe bet! Also, don’t wear items that make you uncomfortable. You don’t want to be fidgeting with your bra strap or pulling your skirt down, you want to be focused on his parents! And finally, do NOT wear low cut shirts. Your boyfriend’s mom does not want to see down your shirt, trust me! (Plus, how totally awkward would THAT be! Im just lookin out for ya!)

Just remember ladies, be confident! Show them the real you. What’s not to love!?

Take The High Road: Be Proactive

Being proactive is not always the easiest thing to do. In Sean Covey’s “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens,” Habit 1 tells you how to succeed in being proactive…

proactive-2Being proactive is not always the easiest thing to do. In Sean Covey’s “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens,” Habit 1 tells you how to succeed in being proactive during every situation you go through in life.

Being proactive, I’ve learned, is to be positive and to make choices based on values, not impulse. It’s to think before you act and to control how you react to situations in life. The other path you can take is to be reactive. Although this seems easier to do, it’s the wrong way to go. The analogy used in this book is a good way to look at it. Reactive people are like a can of soda.CMSResultFigure01_11_10_14 If life tends to shake them up, everything builds inside of them and they suddenly explode. Unlike reactive people, being proactive is like a bottle of water. Shake it all you want but nothing will happen once you take off the lid. These people remain calm and in full control.

Now you have a choice, to be reactive or proactive. Being a teenager, I know the choice is not easy. I’ve gone through many situations during school or sports where I thought being reactive was the only thing I could be and that’s what I would do.  It’s easier to blame other players for throwing you a bad pass or to blame the teacher for your bad grade. The truth is it’s your fault. Maybe you caught the ball wrong or you were in the wrong position. Instead of giving up and saying “There’s nothing I can do,” think positive and say “Let’s look at all our options, I can do better.”

If you catch yourself having a reactive mindset, push pause. Think of how you can change your negative comments to positive statements. Maybe you got a bad grade on a big test. blame-gameInstead of blaming others or thinking you should’ve studied or worked harder, push pause and say you’ll do better next time.

Being an athlete, I know working with a team is sometimes frustrating and hard to do. A few months ago, my basketball team played in a big tournament that we were all very excited about. In the game to get into the semi-finals we were losing by quite a few points at half-time. We were all very down and being reactive. Thinking of the mistakes we made and the could-of, should-of moments was what most players were doing at this time. After a talk between our team and motivating words to be positive from our coaches, we then went into the game with a more positive attitude knowing we could do it. We finally caught up to the other team and ended up going into overtime and winning the game. From then on we had a more positive outlook on the next few games we had to play.

I know being proactive is hard, but it pays off. Wake up every morning and think “I am going to be proactive today.” Think before you speak, be positive, and put yourself in control of your attitude. Be proactive.

Beginning with the end in mind can help you develop a clearer picture on what you want to do with your life. Although you may have no idea what you completely want to do in life, such as who you will marry or what career you might choose, you can at least start thinking beyond today and begin deciding what path you want to take towards your  future.

begin-with-the-end-in-mind-slider Chelsea Crockett

begin-with-the-end-in-mind-slider Chelsea Crockett

It may seem hard to draw up a picture of what your future looks like without a blueprint. Being a teenager, I know it’s definitely not an easy thing to do. You may still be deciding on where you want to go with your life in the next few years, let alone the rest of your life. Beginning with the end in mind isn’t saying to make all the big decisions right now, but simply saying to start shaping yourself. To do this you must ask yourself a few questions such as: Do you want to go to college or graduate school? What will your attitude towards life be? What kind of relationships do you want with your family and friends? I know it’s frightening to start thinking about your future at such a young age, but your teenage years affect such a big part of your life in such a powerful way.

Take your peers as an example. Who you associate with has a big influence on how you act or what kind of reputation you have. I know finding the right group of friends is hard, but it’s better to stick to your guns and have little friends then to be stuck in the wrong group in the wrong situations. Remember, your friends don’t have to be from your school. They could be friends from church, sports teams, or even family. Wouldn’t you rather be accepted for who you are then being accepted for who you’re not?

Throughout this chapter, Sean Covey repeatedly talks about having a mission statement. A mission statement is a personal motto that states what your life is about. It’s a positive statement that motivates you to do your best and gives you a little inspiration. If things start to get bad with school, family, etc. you can refer back to your mission statement that remains unchanged and can give you some encouragement.

Last but not least, go for the goal. Don’t get yourself down looking back at set goals in the past that were never accomplished. Start fresh and have a mind ready to succeed. I know from personal experiences that getting back up after you fall is not fun or easy. In the past, I’ve set many goals from learning a musical instrument to getting straight A’s for the year. Some I succeeded through but others I failed. Looking back on your disappointments you can reflect on what you did wrong and what you can do next time to achieve your goal. It makes you a stronger person and gives you a new perspective on the future.

Make differences and leave a legacy. Life is short so start to begin with an end in mind. Make your life extraordinary.
