I absolutely love to travel, and thank goodness for that because I travel often! Just recently I went to Coachella in California, and also went to Playlist Live in Orlando! Because I travel bunches, I spend lots of time in airports. Now, I wouldn’t say I am an expert at airports, but I know a thing or two that makes traveling in them a little less of a chore. Here are 4 of my top airport hacks to help save you time and money!

  1. Bring your own snacks: Try as hard as you can to avoid buying snacks and drinks at the airport. They are waaaay overpriced. Pack travel snacks like granola bars and trail mix to munch on. Also, pack an empty water bottle in your luggage to fill up once you pass security.
  2. Wear the extra luggage: If your carry-on is close to the weight limit, wear your heaviest pieces and layer them to get past security. After you have gone through, head to the bathroom and take off the layers and pack them up. You might want to keep a jacket or sweater out of your bag, airports and planes can get chilly!airporthacksbig2air
  3. Store your laptop in an easily accessed place: When you go through security they scan your laptop, which means you have to take it out of your luggage. Don’t be that person riffling through their suitcase, holding up the line at security because you packed your laptop in a hard to reach place!
  4. Make your luggage distinguishable: Standing around, waiting for your luggage after a long day of traveling is the worst part of the day. If you tie colored ribbons or fabric onto the handles of your luggage you will be able to quickly find it, grab it, and be on your merry way.
  5. Bring a portable battery charger: Airports do have charging stations, but they are usually majorly crowded. To make sure your phone never runs out of juice, carry a portable battery charger with you. That way you can charge it while you are waiting AND during your flight!

Happy travels!

How to build your wardrobe part 4: Put it all together!

Now that you’ve filled your closet with pieces that fit great, look great, and are pieces that you love, it’s time to put it all together!

Is there a better feeling than looking in your closet and seeing a bunch of pretty new things you can’t wait to wear? It is amazing! There’s a few things you can do to help take full advantage of your new, fabulous wardrobe.

Step 1: Would You Still Buy It?
Now that you have your new purchases at home and are done shopping, try everything on again. Sometimes a dressing room is not the best place to determine how a piece really looks on you. The lighting may have been bad, you maybe didn’t havethe right underwear on, etc. Are you still excited to wear the piece? Maybe it is not as cute as you thought. This is the time to go through your purchases and make sure you really love them!

 Step 2: Start Styling!

Plan at least one outfit for each new piece. Put together a whole look, from the shoes to the accessories! Make sure to incorporate pieces that you already had into the looks also.

 Step 3: Create a Lookbook

Once you have an outfit all worked out, take a picture of it or write it down. When it’s time to get dressed later on, you won’t struggle to remember what pants, or shirt, or scarf looked best. It’s also a great way to help you get dressed when you’re in a hurry!

Step 4: Work Those new Clothes!

I know I know, this is such a tough one ;). You’ve done a ton of work for this wardrobe, now it’s time to go out and show off your new pieces!

I hope that this process has helped you build a wardrobe that makes you feel confident, beautiful, and like a total fashionista! Your clothes should work for you, not the other way around. So, try every day to get dressed in something that puts a smile on your face!

Keep smiling darlings,

How to build your wardrobe part 3: time to go shopping!

You’ve cleaned out your closet, defined your personal style, and now it’s time for my favorite part! SHOPPING!

When most people go to fill their closet back up, they just buy random pieces that they like. Shopping like that doesn’t build a sturdy wardrobe. Before you head to the store this time, there’s a little more work to be done.

chelsea crockett shopping list

Step 1: Make A Shopping List

Look through your current clothing and take note of the pieces you’re missing. Which pieces are you always reaching for but never have? Next, move to your style list that we created in part 2. What pieces do you need to add to your wardrobe so you can achieve your desired style? Remember to look for the pieces and styles you saw repeating in your inspiration.

Step 2: Prioritize Your Purchases

Go through your shopping list and prioritize which pieces will have the most impact in your wardrobe at the current time. Start with the basics, or the pieces you’ll wear most often. Then move on to the pieces you need to start or finish your inspiration looks. These are the pieces that tie everything together. The lowest on the list might be things like accessories or pieces similar to what’s already in your closet. If you’re on a budget, your priority items will be the first things to shop for, and then slowly work down your list as your budget allows.

Step 3: In-Store vs. Online

Shopping in the store will give you instant gratification. You will be able to add the purchases to your closet right away and will be able to see how they work with the rest of your wardrobe.

Shopping online has benefits as well! When you shop online, you can be in the comfort of your own home! Everyone has their own preference on which way to shop.

Don’t be afraid to try a trend or style that may be different from what you’re used to wearing. But remember, if it doesn’t fit great, look great, and feel great, it’s not part of your perfect wardrobe. Also, don’t get frustrated if shopping feels difficult or unsuccessful. Once you start, it will get easier, I promise!

XOXO, Chels

PS. Stay tuned for the next article of the series called “Putting It Together”.

Every girl dreams of having the perfect wardrobe, fully stocked with adorable clothes for every occasion. Am I right? Today I am going to give youi some tips on how to build the wardrobe of your dreams!

Step 1: Clean Up!

*Clean up your room. Going through your closet in an already messy room will just create a big, exasperating, overwhelming disaster. Clean up your room and make space to lay out your clothes.

*Clean up yourself. Do your hair and make up! When you try on clothes, anything you try on will look better if you’re looking good too!

Step 2: Get To Work!Chelsea crockett how to build a wardrobe

*Pick out a basic top & bottom, like jeans and a white tee, to try on with your pieces. If you’re trying on a top, wear the jeans and vice versa with the white tee.

* Go through one category at a time. I recommend you do all tops at once, all skirts, and so on. It’s easier to determine if you have duplicates or similar pieces. This also helps you from getting overwhelmed!

*Start with the clothes you don’t need to try on. These may be closet staples like black & white tanks/tees, uniforms, that sort of thing. Put them in the STAY pile. Things that are stained, ripped, damaged, move them to the GO pile.

Step 3: Go Through Your Piles!

*If you ended up with a lot of items in your stay pile, try and re-evaluate. Be realistic! You’re trying to build a wardrobe you love!

*Divide your GO pile into pieces that need to be thrown away, donated, and sold.

Don’t be overwhelmed with cleaning out your closet! Try doing just one or two categories of clothes in a day rather than everything in one sitting. Once you get the hang of cleaning things out, it will become easier to part with pieces. I know I sometimes have a hard time getting rid of clothing because I think “You never know, someday I might need this!” but when the going gets tough, just remember, you’re working towards building a wardrobe you love with clothes you’ll be excited to wear every day! You can do it, ladies!

Have you ever seen Princess Diaries? If so, think back to the scene where Mia and her mom are in their house, throwing darts at paint-filled balloons, letting off some serious steam. Did anyone else feel insanely jealous of them?! I know I totally did. Well, I have now added this activity to my summer bucket list, and I think you should, too! This is how you play “Paint Balloon Darts”.61cd4d6970b2e55742d48860371f5976

You just need some water balloons, some washable paint, darts, and a canvas or wooden back board! Fill a bottle
with a narrow tip with paint and use it to fill your balloons. Fill them up about ¼ of the way, and then tie them off. Use pushpins to attach them to your wooden backboard or canvas. After you have done so, stand back and let ‘er rip! You can have a group of people split into teams and compete to see which group can bust more balloons than the other, or you can just toss the darts for fun! If you use a canvas, you can save it and it can be a fun art piece!

I hope you ladies can use this fun game to let off some steam this summer just like Mia Thermopolis, Princess of Genovia, did. 😉

Do you love to travel? I love being able to tell people all of the places I’ve been! I love to document my travels with photos. It allows me to look back at all of the fun I’ve had and all of the cool things I have seen! I found a really cool way to document and display all of your travels. All you need is a giant map!

chelsea crockett photo map

The first thing you need for this project is a giant map! What you are going to do is cut pictures out in the shape of the places you have visited and glue them to the map! So, go through your pictures from all of your travels and pic out your favorite from each place. Once you have chosen one photo from each place you have been, print them out pretty big. You can print them out on your computer or take them to Walgreens and have them blown up. Whatever you choose! Then, cut the pictures in the shape of the state they were taken in. You may need to trace the shape onto the picture so it is easier. Then paste the pictures on the map. Hang your picture map where people can see it and you can tell them all about your travels! Not only is it a great conversation starter, but it is also a great way to preserve your memories!

I love music. I listen to it on the bus, when I am at home, and when I just need to relax and get away. Today I am going to fill you in on my current top 3 favorite songs. These are songs I shamelessly rock out to on a daily basis!

1. Come With Us (Feat. Can’t Stop Won’t Stop) By Lindsey Stirling:

I love this song because it is so unique. Why is it unique? It mixes rap with violin music. It is so cool! Lindsey is a really talented violinist, so when you pair her with some cool rap music, it is a really catchy song!

My Top 3 Favorite Songs

2. Turn the Radio Up by Kyle Andrews:

I love this song because it has a unique beat. I also like it because the artist, Kyle Andrews, is like the male version of Ellie Goulding. Go check it out!

3. Radioactive by Imagine Dragons:

Ok, I cannot get enough of this song. When my brother Chandler and I listen to this song we jump on my bed and dance. Well, he TRIES to dance, but he has still got some learning to do ;). This song has such a great beat and makes you wanna get up and move!

Social Media: Watch What You Post

I’m sure you all are on social media, am I right? If not, at least you have probably heard of it! I’m talking about Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, all that jazz. Today I am going to tell you how important it is for you to watch what you say and post on social media, because when you post something, it is out there forever.

I know how tempting it might be to comment on someone’s picture or status and tell them how you really feel, but hold your tongue. Watch what you say, because other people are watching how you react and respond such as future employers. Yes, I said it, your future boss can look you up on social media and see just who you really are! That is an important point. Do not post anything on the internet that you wouldn’t want your boss/parents to see, because it will find their way to them.  According to CareerBuilder.com, 25% of employers check your social media sites when deciding whether or not to hire you.chelsea crockett social media

Also, never put much personal information on social media sites. By posting where you are at all times and putting personal information in your “bio” on the sites, you could put yourself in danger. Another risk of social media is cyber bullying.  Odds are, you have been cyber bullied or you have been the one bullying. Cyber bullying can be something as simple as commenting on someone’s status or picture with a rude remark. Words hurt, girls. Next time you are tempted to comment on something or post something mean, think about the verse Luke 6:31, which says “Do unto others as you would have them do to you.” I know it might be hard to hold your tongue, but be the bigger person!

I hope this article makes you think twice before posting anything on social media!

Love you guys,

XOXO, Chels

The fashion police is here! Here to make sure that you never make any of these 3 common fashion no no’s!

1. Buy things that fit: You know that adorable shirt on clearance? The one two sizes too small, but makes you wonder if you can squeeze into it? Girl, leave it on the rack. There is nothing worse than wearing a shirt that is two sizes too small and feeling super uncomfortable because you have to hold your breath all day to keep from popping the buttons off. Sure, the shirt may be the cutest thing you have ever seen, but there is another one out there that is just as cute, and that accents your body way better, I guarantee it!

2. Hide those bra straps: We all know a girl who likes to show off her pink leopard print bra straps, and doesn’t seem to mind when they constantly pop out from under her shirts. Don’t be that girl! Cover those babies up. You look much classier and more respectable when you do. Plus, covering your straps up keeps you modest, and modest is hottest! chelsea crockett fashion police

3. Wearing pj’s in public: Ladies, please please PLEASE do not wear pajama pants in public. This is NOT a good look. The whole “just rolled out of bed” look is not something to go for. I know it may be cozy and comfortable, but save them when you are at home. This is not the way to achieve the “hobo chic” look, trust me!chelsea crockett pajama pants in public

I hope this visit from the fashion police has whipped you into shape!

Color Blocking: How to Master the Trend

What is color blocking? This trend takes bold colors and pairs them together in outfits to make the ensemble abstract and artistic. Looking to make a statement with your style? Well color blocking is definitely a good place to start!

One example of color blocking is picking one color and styling your outfit with varying shades of that color. These are called monochromatic colors! If you choose lavender, you could wear deep purple jeans with a light lavender sweater and nude flats with a clutch that had purple accents. This variation of color blocking sort of has the ombre effect because of the different shades of color you are using!

The next aspect of color blocking is using the color wheel to choose colors that accent each other. Choose colors that are complimentary to each other, such as yellow and purple, red and green, and orange and blue. That’s the first step to color blocking, choosing your color scheme!

Color blocking can be confusing, but don’t let it fluster you! Learning how to color block successfully takes practice. You have to choose just the right shades and color combinations, or the outfit can turn into a jumble of mismatched nonsense! That is why peeking at a color wheel can be helpful. Here are some examples of color blocking:

Hopefully these examples show you just how trendy color blocking can be and give you examples on how to work it into your wardrobe!

“So what do you want to do?” “I don’t know, what do YOU want to do?” Do you ever have this conversation when trying to figure out where to go/what to do on a date? Well…Chelsea to the rescue! I’m here with 5 unusual date ideas that will knock you and your beau’s socks off!

1. Go to a chain bookstore and leave notes to future readers in copies of your favorite books. How cool would it be to be browsing through your favorite books and find a note from a random stranger?

2. Dress up as superheroes and stop at least one petty crime (like littering or jaywalking). You can be Superwoman and he can be your Superman 😉

3. Rent a movie you have never seen, put it on mute, and make up your own dialogue. This would be a blast because you can put your own words in and laugh at what the other person comes up with!ghk-couple-laughing-bed-lgn-6833259

4. Visit as many of your friends as you can in one night and perform pranks on them. One of my favorites? If it is cold outside, take cotton balls, dip them in water, and stick them to their cars! Just make sure that the people you are pranking are good natured and can take a joke, you don’t want to make them mad!

5. Go to a restaurant and use fake names. You both will have a blast because it is your own little inside joke!

 Have fun, love birds!

Have you ever heard of a cleanse? Well, they cleanse out all of the impurities and toxins in our body. We are exposed to so many toxins every day, whether it is in the air we breathe or the food we eat! Cleanses can also help keep your weight under control and quicken your metabolism!  You should drink this mixture in the morning on an empty stomach a half an hour before breakfast and then again at night before bed. First boil a cup of water. Then, add 2 teaspoons of honey and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly, it can help reduce your weight! It is also a very calming drink.honey and cinnamon

Like I said, cleanses are super important and help flush your body of all kinds of impurities, allowing it to soak up any nutrients you add to it! I LOVE decorating for Christmas! It is just one of the many reasons I love the holiday season. I came across an awesome DIY that I think you all are going to love! It adds sparkle to any mantle!

What you will need:

-100 mini lights

-1 canvas

Chelsea Crockett

1. Lay your canvas down on the floor or a flat surface and draw whatever pattern you want on the back of the canvas with a pencil. I chose to draw a snowflake-ish pattern on mine. Make sure you keep the pattern a little further apart to leave room for the lights. You can use an ice pick to poke the holes in the canvas where you made the pencil marks. Be careful though, ice picks are sharp suckers!

Chelsea Crockett

2. Poke the tip of the lights through the holes you have made in the canvas. You can secure the lights in the holes with hot glue if you want. The picture below shows what a hot mess the back of the canvas will look like, but it also shows how awesome it looks from the front! Prop this sucker up on your mantle, add some garland and a few sparkely accent pieces, and you will have the best looking mantle on the block!

If you decide to try this classy DIY, comment below and tell me how it turns out!
