             School, drama, and life in general can be stressful at times.  Unfortunately, this stress isn’t just giving you a headache; it may be giving you bad skin!  Different types of stress affect your skin differently.  By examining your skin, you may be able to determine what type of stress you’re suffering from and how you can help it!

            Worrying and anxiety are the two biggest types of stress.  Worrying causes inflammation, dark under eye circles, dryness, and increased sensitivity.  The more sensitive your skin is, the more prone you are to breakouts and the dreaded zits.  Anxiety can cause a decrease in health.  When someone is anxious, they tend to put less of an emphasis on caring for their skin and body.  Exercising becomes less and less, grabbing fast food is the easier option, and going to sleep without taking your makeup off becomes more and more frequent.  All of these factors can cause weight gain, poor skin, and a lack of nutrition.  The easiest and most effective ways to stop stress is to relax!!  Set time aside for yourself, hangout with your friends, watch a funny movie, or go for a run.  Also, make sure to get plenty of sleep!  By doing Chelsea Crockett- friendsone of these activities once a day, your stress levels will reduce dramatically.

Stress can take such a toll of your body.  Other than the occasional tears, many do not realize the underlying effects stress takes on your body.  Take care of yourself and don’t let stress control your life!

Have you ever used white eyeliner? It can give you an instant eyelift! Most people think that white eyeliner is only used on the runway, but that isn’t the case anymore! Here are 3 every day uses for white liner:

 

1. To give yourself a brow lift: Glide the liner under your brow. Use a smudger or a clean bush to blend it downwards. This creates a visual eye-lift and defines your brow.

2. To open up your eyes: Glide the liner along the top lash line and smudge it out over the eyelid. This makes the eye look larger and the lashes lookwhite eyeliner longer and more dramatic! Work it!

3. If you’re feeling a bit drowsy: Glide the liner along the inner rim of your lower lash line to cancel out any redness. This reflects white into the eyes which creates a well-rested, fresh look.

Have you ever wanted long hair in the blink of an eye?  I know I used to!  Every day heat application, colors and dyes, and even wearing your hair up with a tight hair tie and can stunt hair growth.  Sometimes, you may not even realize your damaging your hair.  There are a number natural ways to make your hair healthier, which in return speeds up hair growth.  Now, it won’t happen overnight, but in the long run, you’ll see results.  Follow these simple tips and your hair will thank you for it.

  • So, cutting your hair to make it grow longer sounds crazy, right?  Wrong!!  Getting a slight trim every 6-8 weeks actually makes your hair healthier.  By removing the dead ends, your hair will be able to breathe and grow faster.  It will look healthy and shiny too!
  • Go all natural!  Let your hair air dry as much as possible and stay clear of flat irons and curling irons.  This excessive amount of heat damages hair from roots to ends.  Rock your natural hair, it’ll pay off!
  • Brush your hair the right way!  Now I’m not saying to brush it 100 times day, but rather once or twice.  Over brushing isn’t good for the hair, but brushing in moderation will stimulate the scalp, creating slight hair growth.  Make sure to be careful when you get out of the slower.  Use a wide-toothed comb to get out tangles.  Be gentle!
  • If you enjoy DIY masks, try an eye white mask.  Using a few eggs, remove the yolk and apply the egg whites to your hair.  This will make your hair stronger and healthier, which ultimately leads to hair growth.Chelsea Crokett- natural hair growth

I love sheer blouses. They are loose, flowy, and flirty! A lot of times, though, I am kind of reluctant to don a sheer blouse because I don’t know what to wear under it! I want to be modest in the way that I dress, and sometimes it is hard to know how to achieve this goal when wearing sheer clothing. Here are 3 tips for when you wear sheer clothing.

  1. Layer it: Of course, when you are wearing sheer shirts you want to layer them. Or you can even layer your favorite simple cami!
  2. Keep it loose: Sheer blouses are best worn loose. The tighter the sheer shirt, the more revealing it is. Your sheer look should be relaxed and floaty, so keep your sheer shirt chic by wearing it in a looser fitting style.
  3. Button it up: Look chic when you wear your sheer blouse by buttoning it up all the way. When you wear your sheer shirts in this modest manner, you balance out the sheer nature of the shirt. Tuck your sheer top into a pencil skirt or toss on a blazer for a more professional look.

The craze of wanting to be skinny has taken a new toll on our generation.  Everywhere you look you see models showing off their infamous thigh gap.  I use the word infamous, because the thigh gap has gone from something one admired to a total obsession amongst girls.  It’s even starting to drive young girls to starvation.  It’s time to crack down on the thigh gap and why we need to stop worrying about it.Chelsea Crockett- thigh gap

The thing gap isn’t something one can just achieve; it actually has something to do with body structure.  If you’re made with wide hip bones and a slender frame, then you are destined to have a thigh gap since your legs are placed further apart.  If your legs were built closer together, then no matter how much you diet or exercise, you probably won’t ever have a thigh gap; and THAT’S OKAY!!!

All of us girls need to stop worrying so much about being skinny, but rather healthy.  Never harm your body to achieve something so irrelevant.  Stop picking out things you hate about your body and start loving it!  It’s time to kick the thigh gap to the curb!

We all know how much I love the “boho” trend. I love the loose, flowey clothing and free-spiritedness of it all. I figured that since I am always giving you style tips on how to rock the boho trend, I should probably give you a hair suggestion to go with it! Here I what I like to call “hippy briads”, which I think go just grand with the boho style.

  1. For this style you will be wearing your hair down, so brush it out and put some loose curls in it. Take some sea tres3salt spray and mist it over your hair, scrunching it and working it through your hair to give it some texture and body.
  2. Take a section of hair from your “good side” aka the side you part your hair on, and do a simple braid about 2 inches from the front of your hair line. So, not at the front of your hair, a little further back on your head.
  3. Take the section of hair in front of your braid, so the hair at the front of your face, and an equal portion of hair from the other side of your head and pin the sections to the back of your head. You should have a “half up half down” sort of look goin on right now.
  4. Now take those sections that you pinned back to the back of your head and braid them together and secure with a clear elastic. You should now have one braid to the side of your hair and one going down the back.

Last Sunday was one of the greatest award shows out of the whole year! Hundreds of celebrities gathered for the Video Music Awards in California and I know I wasn’t the only one wishing to be there! With homecoming dances just around the corner, what better way to get some inspiration than from the hottest dress trends at the VMAs?

Black and white dresses seemed to be a norm on the red carpet this year. Chelsea Crockett - Fifth HarmonyThe entire Fifth Harmony clan had a perfect variety of simple, yet classy, black and white dresses. Other celebrities such as Kylie Jenner and Beyoncé pulled off the look just as well.

Another common seen trend at the VMAs was shimmer and sequins. If you want a fun look for homecoming, I definitely suggest a little glitter! Jennifer Lopez looked stunning in her sparkling dress! If you like some shimmer, it’s a perfect way to dress up your look for homecoming without going too over the top.

Now this last “trend” isn’t exactly what most people would think of when I say the word trend… but it’s probably the best one there is! Being yourself is something that each celebrity has definitely stayed committed to at the VMAs. If you look through the red carpet pictures, you’ll see tons of different styles, patterns, and pieces. No matter who it was, they stuck with their own style not caring of what people thought. I encourage you to do the same when picking out your signature dress :)!

When someone has glasses, their eyes tend to get over-shone by their new set of eyes.  Sometimes the frames can attract more than the actual eyes themselves.  It’s hard to apply makeup that another can notice without over applying and packing on the dark makeup. Here’s a little guide I put together to change that and help you girls out!

When looking for the right foundation, I suggest a powder over a liquid. When using a liquid or cream, your foundation seems to move under your frames, which can leave marks around your nose and cheeks. Also, when wearing glasses, our frames tend to make under our eyes look darker than normal. To avoid this, use a lighter shaded foundation or concealer to brighten up that area.

Chelsea Crockett - Neutral Eye MakeupSometimes our eyes get over-shone by our frames, making it harder for them to stand out.  I’ve learned a trick to help solve this problem. However thick the frame of your glasses are is how you should model the thickness of your eyeliner: thin frames, thinner eyeliner. Also, try using neutral eye shadows to complement the rest of your makeup.  Finish off with not one, but two coats of mascara.

With these helpful tips, you won’t have to worry about your glasses standing out over your eyes ever again!

Using Liner to Change Your Eye Shape

Did you know that you can use eyeliner to totally change the shape of your eyes? It CAN be done! Let me explain:  If you’d like your eyes to look…

Did you know that you can use eyeliner to totally change the shape of your eyes? It CAN be done! Let me explain:

 If you’d like your eyes to look closer together or if your eyes are wide-set: Add liner to the inner corner of your eyelids (eye #13).

If you’d like your eyes to look wider apart or if your eyes are close-set: Leave liner off of the inner corner or your eye, and be sure to line the outer upper lid. You may also line the lower outer lid if you want (eye # 12).

For a smokey or dramatic look: Line all the way around the eye. The thicker your liner, the smokier and more dramatic the look! You may also want to ‘smudge’ the line with your finger to keep it from looking too harsh. Something to keep in mind, though, is that this technique makes your eyes look the smallest, or the least “open”, so I wouldn’t use this technique if you feel your eyes are small. (eyes # 4,10,11)

  To create the trendy “cat-eye” look: Line your eye as you normally would (upper lid, or both upper and lower), and then add a small swipe or ‘wing’ at the outer corner of the upper lid. This ‘wing’ may be as big and thick as you’d like, but generally for everyday wear, a smaller wing is fashionable and appropriate. (eyes #1,2,8)

To make your eyes look more open and bigger: Only line the top lid. If you want your eyes to look bigger, but still like wearing bottom-lid liner, try lining the outer half of the bottom lid. Another cheat or trick here would be to use a white or light-toned liner on your bottom lid. Lighter-shades have an ‘opening’ effect, while dark shades make them look smaller. (eye #9)

 To summarize all that jazz: Darker, all-over liner is most dramatic, but makes your eyes look a bit smaller. Lining the top lid gives your eyes a big, open effect, but is a less dramatic, more natural look. And to change your eye shape, add liner to the outer or inner corner, depending on where you’d like to add depth or length to your eye shape.

So this week has really been focused on “that time of the month”. I don’t know about you, but during that time, I get some pretty intense cramps and cravings. Today I am going to give you some snack ideas that will actually help reduce your cramps!

Anything high in fiber: Fiber helps soak up prostaglandins (the stuff that causes your lovely cramps) like a sponge and carries them out of your body. Some good sources of fiber are brown rice, spinach, peas, and whole grain bread.

Foods full of calcium: Calcium is known to relieve muscle tension, and muscle tension is what causes menstrual cramps. Drink some milk, eat some yogurt, or even eat dark leafy greens such as broccoli to relieve your yucky cramps.

Foods high in Vitamin B6: Vitamin B6 helps to reduce pain and is found in foods like bananas, oatmeal, and chicken breast.

First and foremost, you have to embrace your natural hair texture.  By playing off your hairs natural waves or curls, you’ll be able to style your hair much faster and easier.  Start by brushing out tangles with a wide-toothed comb, NOT a hairbrush.  A comb will take out specific tangles, while a hair brush will get rid of your natural texture.  Next, run water through your fingers and add it to the pieces of hair that look the limpest.  This will add body to dull, lifeless strands.  Add dry shampoo to your roots for freshness and volume.  A little dry shampoo goes a long way for instant fullness.

It’s as simple as that, and no heat is required!  Embrace that perfectly beautiful and messy bed head!

  • Viva La Juicy.  This perfume is made by Juicy Couture and has an amazing fruity scent to it.  You also don’t have to worry about the strong scent fading off right away.
  • Our Moment by One Direction.  If you love One Direction, then you’ll be sure to check out their new perfume.  This scent is super sweet and for sure a must-have.
  • Coach Poppy.  This perfume is a perfect mix of fruits and flowers.  It may be pricey but the buy is totally worth it!  Asking for it as a gift is a good idea for avoiding the price!
  • Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift.  I love this perfume.  This is a better perfume for fall and winter because it’s not a normal fruity, summery scent.  It also lasts for a while so you don’t have to keep reapplying it over and over again throughout the day.
