How to Prepare for Summer

Hey Insiders!

I don’t know if you have noticed, but SPRING IS HERE!! And that means that summer is just around the corner. You know what that means? Swimsuit season is getting closer and closer! If you are looking for ways to tone up and get in shape for summer, look no further!

1. Drink water before every meal: By drinking a glass or two of water before every meal, you are filling up your stomach and making yourself feel more full! When you feel full, you won’t eat as much, and if you don’t eat as much, you will lose weight!

2. Do some sort of cardio twice a week: Cardio is key to becoming a toned beach goddess. It gets your heart rate up and gets your muscles moving! Some cardio exercises that I recommend are jogging, jumping rope, and swimming!how to prepare for summer

3. Snack healthy: Healthy snacking is a really great way to keep your cravings away and not make you eat as much at your meals! Some healthy snacks are fruit, nuts, or even veggie chips!

Remember Insiders, losing weight is 80% how you eat and 20% exercising. This means that, although exercising is important to staying healthy, how you eat affects you even more. Now get off the couch, grab an apple, and get your fitness on!

Love Ya,

Chelsea

Mission in Motherhood

Have you ever had those really strange moments in your life when everyone had stopped laughing at a joke, but for some reason, you just kept laughing long after it…

Mission in Mother Hood with Chelsea CrockettHave you ever had those really strange moments in your life when everyone had stopped laughing at a joke, but for some reason, you just kept laughing long after it was told?  Many of those times for me, are now funny  stories we will tell our grandchildren someday about their parents.   One of those times was one early morning when Chelsea was around one year old.  She was crying and coughing in her bed, so the video baby monitor woke us.  We noticed that on the screen, she was sitting up and it looked like there was white fluff all over her crib.    When we went in to check on her, we found out that not only did Chelsea not appreciate being wet, she also discovered that her diaper didn’t taste very good either.  Yes,… Chelsea was digging at her wet diaper and trying to eat it.  Nice one, Chels.

While being a parent is entertaining, it can also be trying at times.  The difficulty lies in the fact that many times, we forget that being a parent takes commitment on our parts.  It is so easy to become exhausted with everyday life that we forget to teach our kids about discipline and setting limits for them in their lives.  Family lives are so busy that “surviving the hectic, busy day” is the theme, while guiding and teaching is low on the priority list.

One of the challenges that I’ve faced this year was from this very thing!  We were so busy prioritizing our schedules, we neglected our priorities.  While we had good intentions to sit down together at night to eat as a family,  it rarely happened.  The stress began to eat away at our patience for each other, and our over-all health was deteriorating.  The symptoms ranged from migraine headaches, arthritis, panic attacks, insomnia,- and the list goes on and on and on. Mission in Mother Hood with Chelsea Crockett

Recently, we’ve been getting our priorities in order.  One of the things that I’m working on as a mom is to become more healthy and to help my family do the same.  We’ve been working on understanding proper nutrition, as well as what we are deficient in.  We are working hard to eliminate the toxins from our lives.  Another goal of mine is to guide and steer our family into thinking about a family mission statement.

My personal mission statement as a mom is to be an energetic mother who loves and knows God fully, follows his lead, and leaves a legacy of christian love to her kids. Sounds really good, doesn’t it?  Well, I have to admit…..some of it, I stole from our pastor’s sermon this past week.  In fact, if you would like to see this sermon, you can go to www.fbmaryville.org.  The sermon was titled, “Love and Limits”.

As “Mother’s Day” approaches, I hope and pray you feel empowered to become the mother that you are called to be.  Isaiah 40:11 says, “He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.”

In this Old Testament promise, spoken by the prophet Isaiah, the Lord clearly states his commitment to guide and protect mothers and to care for their children.  It is hard to believe that someone could love our children as much as we do, but he really does.   I don’t know about you, but I find this to be very encouraging.

Put First Things First?

Will and Won’t Power. Prioritize, and do the most important things first.

Put Things First - Chelsea Crockett Putting first things first is something teens, as well as myself, find hard to do.   Prioritizing and managing your time is super difficult especially in the life of a busy teen.  Who wouldn’t want to hang out with friends and relax instead of clean your room or do homework?  Putting important things first definitely doesn’t mean having no time for yourself or for your friends.  You just have to figure out what things are urgent, and what things are important.

As Sean Covey says, urgent things aren’t necessarily bad. The problem happens when we put off important things for urgent ones, such as a phone call from your friend instead of that 100 point essay due tomorrow.  There are many situations in which I think, “Well, this homework’s due Friday. I’ll just do it tomorrow.”  This obviously is not the best way to go.  Get it done so you have more free time the next night.  Believe me, it’s much less stressful.

You might be the person that is loaded up on activities and has no clue what the start to putting first things first is and that’s okay.  Start by keeping a planner. Write in it each week so you know what you have going on and can manage your time easily.  Sean Covey talks about thinking mainly about your “big rocks” before you plan.  These big rocks are the most important things you need to get done for the week. Write those down and simply work them into your schedule.  It’s much easier to plan out your week then to scramble things together last minute.

The other half of Habit 3 is learning how to deal with peer pressure and to overcome your fears.  This really applies to me because we all know school isn’t the easiest place to stick to your guns and be who you want to be. Ask yourself, “What do I want to put first?”  Is it your family, friends, God?  What stops you?  Is it the girls around you telling you to try this or do that?  Resisting peer pressure takes a large amount of courage, but in the end, it pays off in many different ways.  You always have the choice – to take the easy way and fall into peer pressure, or to resist the urge to belong and say no.  Respect yourself and your values.

Breaking out of your comfort zone takes a lot of courage, especially when you have the eyes of hundreds of teens watching your every move.  I know in my own comfort zone, I feel secure because I know this is the safe path I can take.  By staying in this zone, you’re passing up several opportunities.  A perfect way to put this is the saying, “You’ll never know if you don’t try!”  Show some faith in yourself and show others what you can do.  Start living your life so you can look back with no regrets!  I’ve always been in love with music and have always wanted to go somewhere with that.  Being the shy girl that I am, I kept to singing in the shower and playing instruments in my room.  Realizing that it’s a talent that God has given me, I don’t intend on wasting it. So, I’ve been practicing more, taking lessons, and playing more for my family and friends.

Take a step outside your comfort zone despite what others say about you.  Put what’s important to you first and start living the life you want.

Dear Chelsea,

For skin that’s acne prone, what full coverage foundation do you recommend?

Xoxo,
Lisa

I definitely have personal experience with this one! This is a problem that a lot of teenagers struggle with. It is a very frustrating situation and it can make even the most confident person very insecure, so this is something that I am passionate about.

First of all, I would suggest that you target the problem head on. I truly believe that a good skin care regimen is vital in improving and maintaining good skin. I also feel that you can clean up the acne from within.  Having a good diet, lots of water and good sleep.

Good luck with whatever you choose and be confident. Confidence is the most attractive quality!

“Let your Kids be your Mirror”

Being reactive to crisis is a response to things that we don’t expect to happen.  We may be hurt and angry when unfair events or crisis occur in our lives.  …

mirror-self-reflection-image Being reactive to crisis is a response to things that we don’t expect to happen.  We may be hurt and angry when unfair events or crisis occur in our lives.   There are some events that seem so overwhelming, some may choose to cope by holding onto feelings of anger, resentment, and unforgiveness. Ask yourself some questions.  How long will I choose the path of anger, resentment, and bitterness?  Who am I hurting in the process?  Is it time to leave the emotions behind and do the hard work?  Who can help me move forward?  Be honest with yourself and to others when you can’t do it alone.  Ask for help, and when you are not getting it, keep asking.  Good counsel is sometimes not easy to find.

Self- reflection can be a helpful and natural response to change.  How can you tell if you need to change?  As a mother, it was easy.  I began to notice how my own children were behaving in the world.  I began to see my own insecurities and fears in them.  I began to watch their priorities take shape-  the same priorities my husband and I set before them.

It is when I began to notice this, that I realized the important choices I had to make.  I began to ask myself some hard questions.  What negative habits and perceptions in my own life need to change?  I could take a step back and begin to make changes and improvements.  I finally internalized the power of the statement, “Children Learn What They Live”.  I experienced it first-hand.  Being an observer of my children was a powerful lesson for me.

I first had to ask myself, “How did I get to this place of self-awareness?”  For me,  it was a deep mis-trust of man that paralyzed me on a daily basis.  The sequence of life events that shook me to the core began to pile up.  I woke up one day, and said, “How did I get to this place of not trusting anyone?”  I felt guilty because I was  not able to trust and love people in the way I knew I should.  The unforgiveness had a hold of me.  But to truly forgive is not something you do effortlessly.  It is a process.  Revisiting your childhood through remembering is part of the healing process.

What were the messages that your parents or people who raised you regarding important issues- such as love, compassion, fear, patience, diversity?  What were the lessons that our parents and teachers taught us?  Were we allowed to be children?  Did we have a childhood?

Our subconscious blueprint of who we are, what the world is like, etc., is learned by a very young age. These early experiences and our subconscious decisions about them, control the way we are into adulthood.  It is when we experience imagesCAY4U1DNdeep, unresolved pain or abuse from childhood, that we discover the underlying beliefs.  You may not begin to process your past, until you are forced with hard situations in your relationships, workplace, and your own family in the present.

Some of the most common and hurtful emotions are shame and guilt.  Shame is rooted in a belief that who you are is not okay.  Guilt indicates that what you do is not okay.  If we are in a place where we experience these emotions from day to day, it becomes a counteractive process to healing.  It makes us feel raw inside.  That’s why it’s so important to allow people to heal when they need to.  Reinforcing shame and guilt for things of the past is never good practice and pours salt on a raw spirit.  If you want to help someone heal from an abusive past, be an encourager.

I pray for you today, as you become aware of your past and make decisions that impact the lives of your family.  It is my hope and prayer for you that you decide to be proactive in your decisions.  Moving forward  is so much easier with a forgiving heart.

Hey Insiders,

Do you have irritating acne or acne scarring? Do you suffer from enlarged pores? Today I am going to give you an at-home remedy for these problems. It’s called an egg mask facial!

What you will need: One organic egg. That’s it!

First: Wash your face thoroughly, make sure you have no makeup left on your face.

Next: grab an organic egg. Why an organic egg? The chickens that provide these eggs are fed grains that are not grown with pesticides. They are also free range, which means they are not cooped up in cages. These kind of eggs are just all around better quality.

After that: Crack open your egg and separate the egg yolk from the egg white. Put them in separate bowls. Stir your egg white until it begins to get bubbly.

Next: take the frothy egg white and use your fingers to cover your face in it! Make sure you cover every inch of your face. Let it sit until your face feels tight, like you just got Botox!

After that: rinse off your face with warm water. Viola, you are finished! If you want to, you can use the egg yolk as a moisturizer. Just break it open and rub the yellow liquid all over your face. Then, when you feel it tighten up, then you can rinse it off.

If you want to: you can rub a piece of ice over your face afterwards to help close your pores. Nifty, right?

There are so many ways to approach skin care with natural remedies. There are numerous benefits from using natural ways, just a few of them being that there is no exposure to harsh chemicals and it is so inexpensive! Most of the natural alternatives use ingredients you can find in your very own kitchen. Easy peasy! Wink

Basics for Teen Beauty

Hey Insiders,

I will never forget the day I bought my first tube of makeup. I was at Victoria’s Secret. I saw this adorable color of lip gloss. I just had to have it! Learning to apply makeup and what looks best on us is a very big part of our growing up process. In this article I am going to outline the teen beauty basics.

Your best bet as a teen is to keep it simple. A huge issue for teens is covering up blemishes and acne. You don’t want to use lots of product just to make yourself look older- enjoy your youth and appreciate your vitality!

Here is my list of gotta-have-it teen products:

1.    Concealer
2.    Foundation stick
3.    Clear brow gel
4.    Light colored or sheer eye shadow
5.    Tinted lip balm, light pink or sheer lip gloss

I like to suggest keeping your makeup natural and light. It is so much easier to do this than to have to worry about spending huge amounts of time trying to alter your appearance. Just be yourself! The most important thing to remember is that you don’t want to cake on too much makeup. Stick to the basics, and use a small amount of color. You are truly stunning just as you are without makeup. Even though we commonly associate it with maturing and getting older, wearing too much won’t make you older.  The less makeup you wear, or if you wear it in a classy way, the more mature you look.

Hey Insiders,

My next few blogs are going to be about the celebrities that I get my inspiration from. My posts are going to focus on their style and her makeup techniques. Today I am going to write about Lana Del Rey!

Lana’s style is kind of all over the place. In some situations she can be chic and classy, but in others she can be crazy hipster. She has dark auburn hair, which she usually wears curled in big, 1970’s looking waves. She can pull off almost anything. I have seen her wear a cropped t-shirt and high waisted cut-off jean shorts with red converse and still look amazing! I am going to take it that the t-shirt and converse look is her “laid back” look. She really gives off a strong retro vibe. Most of her outfits have a “blast from the past” kind of feel. She looks like she walked right out of the 70’s!

For Lana’s makeup, her trademark is the winged eyeliner. She can really pull it off! The winged liner goes along with her retro vibe. She is often photographed wearing dark lipsticks, such as dark burgundy or scarlet. She can totally pull it off! She has super plump lips, so this look can work for her. In a lot of her photos she gives off a sort of pouty look, which can be traced back to her bodacious lips. She also has very thick eyelashes, which just add to her glamorous essence.

Lana is such a beautiful woman. Her style goes right along with her personality. She takes the retro style to a whole new level. Go look her up, I bet you will agree with me!

DIY pore strips

Hey Insiders,

Black heads are the worst, aren’t they? They are annoying and so hard to get rid of, and pore strips can be pricey. In this post I am going to give you a recipe to make your own pore strips for merely pennies!

What you will need: 1 Tablespoon Unflavored Gelatin, 1 1/2- 2 Tablespoons Milk. That’s it! I’m not even kidding. It is that simple.

Step 1: Mix all of the ingredients together until you have a pretty smooth texture. Add more milk if you do not like the texture.  I recommend warming your mixture up so that when you apply it your pores will open up.

Step 2: Apply the mixture to your problem areas. You can apply it to your whole face if you feel the need. I tend to focus on my nose and chin, but everyone is different. Be sure to apply the mixture quickly, because it will start to firm up and be harder to apply. Just a little warning, the mixture smells a bit funny in the beginning because of the milk, but after a little while you get used to it.

Step 3: Wait. You have to wait until the mixture hardens of your face and makes it nearly impossible to smile or make any facial gesture. It is actually pretty funny to watch someone who has this mask on try and talk or do anything that requires facial movement.

Step 4: Start peelin’! This is the most fun and gross part of the whole experience. Start wherever you want and just pull the mask off. As you pull It off you will start to see little black dots in the strips you remove. Yes, that is dirt coming out of your pores! Just think of all the dirt residing in your pores right now. Kinda makes you want to whip up a batch of this mask, doesn’t it?

After you have peeled off the entire mask, go wash your new baby-soft face. I always feel so refreshed after using this mask, and I know you will too!

5 Best Kept Beauty Secrets

Hey Insiders, Today I am going to fill you in on some of the best kept secrets in the world of beauty. You might be surprised at what you find!…

Hey Insiders,

Today I am going to fill you in on some of the best kept secrets in the world of beauty. You might be surprised at what you find!

1. Do you have dry brittle hair? Here’s a great trick.  Use mayo as a hair mask! It may smell kind of disgusting while you are applying it, but it gives you’re a hair a quick picker upper. The oils and fats in mayo give your hair moisture and a shiny sheen. There is also egg in mayo, which works to strengthen your luscious locks.

2. Don’t pick at a chipped nail. If you cant stand having cracks in your nail polish and cannot get to a salon, check this tip out. Grab something small and sharp (items like toothpicks, or the tip of a pin works) and swipe a tiny bit of nail glue into the crack, let it dry, and then paint over it with a base coat and polish.

3. Get shiny hair in seconds. Douse your hair in ice water. The cold of the water seals your cuticles. This makes your hair look smoother, silkier, and shinier. The one warning I will give you is not to dip your scalp in the water if you are prone to brain freezes. If you can handle cold water, working it into your scalp is actually very beneficial to hair growth. The cold stimulates your hair follicles and promotes hair growth.

4. Use Pam help solidify your manicure. By spraying Pam cooking spray on your freshly painted nails, it is preventing them from smudging or getting divots. Oil helps them dry faster!

 5. Got super oily hair and need a quick fix? Snatch up a packet of plain dry oatmeal. It absorbs oil just as well as powder and dry shampoo, and it’s easy to brush out. It is also super cheap and you can find it around your house!

Are you surprised at what you have found? I know I was.

Hello everyone! Have you ever dreamed of dressing like a celebrity?  I know I have!  Unfortunately, the average person cannot afford to own the beautiful clothes worn by celebrities.  I’m going to show you how to get two of Kylie Jenner’s looks for less.  Kylie, 15, and her sister Kendall, 17, are known for being fashion icons to teens all around the world.  I will show you how to get Kylie’s street and red carpet style for a price that anyone can afford!  Below is a picture of Kylie at the opening of Scott Disick’s restaurant in NYC.  She is wearing a Chloé silk blouse for $350, a Lanvin cropped blazer for $1,191, a Theory Tria Vamp pleated skirt for $133, and Christian Louboutin black pumps for $795.  That’s a grand total of $2,469!  That’s crazy!  Now, I will show you where you can get this look for much cheaper.
Forever21 is one of my all-time favorite places to shop. The clothes are reasonably priced, but look expensive.  The yellow tie-collar blouse was very hard to find, but I found the blouse in other colors.  My favorite was a light pink sheer blouse that was the exact same style as the one worn by Kylie.  It was only $13.80!  Forever21 carries other tie-collar blouses in other colors if you’d prefer that.  I also found the skirt for $19.80 and the blazer for $32.80 at Forever21.  A great place for heels is Charlotte Russe.  I found a black pump for $35.50.  They usually run BOGO sales, so you can get more bang for your buck.  Altogether, this look will only cost you $101.90!  Now you can walk down the red carpet looking as if you were wearing $2,000 worth of clothes.  Links for each item of clothing is listed below.

Kylie is known for her extremely casual street style.  She usually pairs a grungy tee with a pair of high waisted shorts.  To get Kylie’s style, all you need is a pair of high waisted shorts, an over-sized tank, and a great pair of combat boots.  Urban Outfitters carries a wide range of high waisted shorts starting at $44.  Brandy Melville is a California based brand that is one of Kylie’s favorite brands.  Surprisingly graphic tanks start at just $14.  These tanks or tees can easily be paired with high waisted shorts either tucked in or out.  One of my favorite brands, and a great place to find combat boots, is Steve Madden.  I love the black Troopa lace-up boots for $99.  They’re a great boot that can be paired with almost anything!  Getting Kylie’s street style isn’t as hard as it seems.  Now you can look like a celeb for any outing at any time of the day. Thanks so much guys and keep checking out my videos Links for clothing are below.
