Prayer does not have to be very formal and serious.  Prayer can be natural, like having a talk with a friend.  Whenever we have a need, we can just talk to God.  We can tell him what we are excited about, tell him what worries us, or ask him for help.  So when we pray, we are just asking God.  We are talking to our best friend.

We can pray about anything, anytime, anywhere, because God loves us.

Key Verse: Psalm 34:4

There are many kinds of Bibles because there are many kinds of people.  But they all contain the same message.  Different Bibles meet different needs.  Some Bibles are very small so you can carry them with you.  Others are big so you can see the words better.  Some Bibles use everyday words to make the Bible easy to read  and the lessons easy to learn.  Some Bibles have notes, maps, and charts to help people understand the parts that are different from today.  The purpose of all these different Bibles is to help people understand what God is saying so they can obey him.

Key Verse: 1 Timothy 4:13

When we’re being attacked by mosquitoes, it’s easy to wonder why God made pests and other animals that can harm us.  When God created the world, it was perfect.  Only after sin entered the picture did animals and human beings become enemies, causing humans to protect and defend themselves.  So now mosquitoes try to feed off of us.  They, in turn, become food for birds and bats.  In the future, in the new heaven and new earth, animals won’t hurt people or each other.

Key verses: Isaiah 11:6-9

A person can pray at any time and in any need.  When people do bad things or make mistakes, they need God more than at any other time.  When we do something wrong, we need to talk with God about it.  We need to admit that what we did was wrong, say that we’re sorry, and ask him to forgive us.  That is the first thing we should pary when we do something bad.  Then God can help us learn so that we can do better next time.  God knows we are not perfect, and he wants to help us by giving us wisdom and helping us change.

If we ait until we are good enough to pray, we will never pray.

Key Verse: Luke 18:13-14

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, written by Sean Covey, gives teens the 7 most effective ways to succeed in life.  I know, from being a teenager myself, that being productive most of the time is very hard to do.  Hanging out with friends, going to watch basketball games, shopping, and just having a social life in general all get in the way of becoming the best person you can be.  By adopting these seven habits, you will be on your way to being very effective!

Habit #1 is being proactive.  What does being proactive mean??  Proactive people make life choices based on value.  You can’t control everything that happens to you, but you can control the way it affects you.  Will you let it ruin your day or will you move on and laugh it off?  You can’t sweat the small stuff!  The opposite of being proactive is being reactive.  Reactive people say the first thing that comes to mind and let things get to them.  In the long run, being reactive won’t get you anywhere.  It will just eat you up inside.  The way you respond to things let people know whether you are reactive or proactive.  Do you say “Ok I’ll try?”  Or do you say “Ok I’ll do it!” “I can’t do that” or “There’s got to be a way to do that!”  A proactive person takes a positive spin on everything.

Being proactive will get you places in life.  It helps you get the job done and gives others a great outlook on the type of person you are.  Do you want to hang out with someone who is negative or positive all the time?  Now, I know life isn’t perfect and that bad things happen to good people, but how will you let it affect you?

Prom month, during my junior year of high school, was extremely stressful.  Being a chair in charge of decorating was a task within itself.  I was paired up with a friend who I knew would help me do a great job with decorating coronation.  The night before prom rolled around and it was time to start decorating the center stage of prom night….the stage where the king and queen would be crowned!  I looked all around for my partner and she had been pulled by a teacher to do some other things.  So, I started decorating on my own.  My partner helped when she could.  The work became overwhelming and I called in for backup….my parents.  A few hours later we got the job done and it looked fantastic!  I couldn’t believe we had pulled it off.  It made me feel so good about our hard work and effort.  Being proactive, persistent, and staying positive were the right things to do.  Next time you’re in a tough situation will you be reactive or proactive? The choice is yours……

pioggybank_postA bank lets you do a lot more with your money than just store it.  If someone has money in the bank, he or she can write checks, get small amounts of money out as it is needed, and pay bills from the money in the bank.

A bank has other benefits too.  It pays you a little bit for keeping your money, it keeps the money safe, and it can hold as much as you’ll ever get.  It’s fun to put money in a piggy bank. But sooner or later you’ll want to have a bank account.

Key verse:  Ezra 8:29

christian_cross_fish_150God wrote the Bible over many, many years, a long time ago– long before computers, cars, and even before books.  The people who wrote down God’s words used scrolls of paper made from papyrus leaves and animal skin.  They wrote it over a period of 1,500 years, from the time of Moses to the apostle John.  Even though the Bible was written hundreds of years before we were born, it is still up-to-date.  When we read the stories and understand what God is saying, we learn how we should live today.

proactive_post

One of the things that I’ve noticed as a mom with teens is the amount of  pressure that teens are under.  Society tells them that  they have to dress the best, have the best grades, or be a part of a particular group of kids or organization.  As a mom and teacher, I realize that we have the power to encourage the unrealistic ideas or foster healthy, realistic ones.   What can we do to empower kids to be all that they are called to be?

One of my personal goals, as a parent, is to maintain a life of honesty.   Many adults stay away from telling kids about their past.  They think that kids will possibly make the same poor choices they did.  But telling them the truth is not enough.  They need to know that you have grown or learned from the experiences.  Remember, just because you shared a particular mistake with them, as well as what you learned doesn’t necessarily mean that they won’t go through the same problem.  Ultimately, their decision-making is their own.

How can we empower kids and teens to live a life of honesty and good-decision making?  Modeling honesty is important for them to see.  If kids live with dishonest parents, then dishonesty will show up in a kid’s life at some point and on some level.  Also, give kids a foundation for their spiritual development.  Kids need to know that there is a higher purpose for their lives and that there is life after death.  It gives them a peace and a hope for their future.

Communicating with your child or teen on a regular basis helps them feel that they are not alone.  Kids and teens are under a lot of strain these days.  Be their support and someone they can talk to.  That way, when they do have problems, you will be the one they come to.  You may wonder what you will talk about.  Start with your own experiences.  Their may be some surprising common ground that will begin the process of open and honest communication.

If you are a parent who is struggling with the past and present, don’t lose hope.  It is never too late to change your course of life.  While forgiving people that hurt us seems next to impossible during periods of your life, hang in there.  Let yourself process the events and begin finding ways to heal.   Being reactive is a natural response to things that surprise us or catch us off guard.  Being angry and bitter can be an initial response and a coping mechanism for many.  However, anger and bitterness can begin to turn into a poison in your life, if you let it. Take the bitterness and anger and turn it into a passion for change.  Surely, we can celebrate the good that sometimes comes from the bad things that happen.

I am praying for you today, if you are a parent who is struggling with your past and your present. I have been in that place, myself.  It is when we embrace both, that we can see our future in a new light.  Believe me, if I can kick habits, gain new perspective, and develop a plan for thinking differently, ANYONE CAN.

How do we know that what the Bible says is True?

The Bible is true because it is God’s Word, and God always speaks the truth.  When you read the Bible, you will see that it says it is the Word of God.

christian_cross_fishThe Bible is true because it is God’s Word, and God always speaks the truth.  When you read the Bible, you will see that it says it is the Word of God.  The Bible also says that every word in it is true.  But if that doesn’t convince you, read the Bible and see for yourself that everything makes sense.  When you read it, you will think, This sounds right!  This is true.  The Bible has also proven to be true over the many hundreds of years since it was written.  For example, many events predicted in the Bible have happened, just as it said they would.

Would you like to know how to get beautiful, bold eyebrows? Here’s a few secrets to help you out. To start off, make sure your eyebrows are well-shaped. You can get them waxed at a local salon, pluck them yourself, or even purchase stencil packets such as the one from a beauty supply for only a few dollars. After you have your beautifully shaped eyebrows, brush through them with an eyebrow comb.

Next comes the fun part! As shown in one of my videos, “Big and Bold Eyebrows Tutorial!” You can purchase an eyebrow kit off of www.whiteninglightning.com

First, I will show you how to create these eyebrows with the kit, then without in case you cannot get one. Once you’ve purchased this, you’re ready to go! You want to have a sort of slanted, stiff brush for applying the next step. If you purchased the eyebrow kit mentioned above, first prime your eyebrows with the gel on the right end of the palette, which will set the powder in place. Next, using the dark brown color off the left end of the palette, load up your brush! Brush into your arch then fill up any holes or patches. Pretty simple, right?

Without the kit, you can still get those beautiful, bold brows. The best way to do this is to color up a few shades darker than your natural eyebrow color. Using an eyebrow pencil will work, but using eye shadow will give you a more blended, natural look.

I had a great time on the rides and walking around the park, but I think what I loved most of all watching my brother and sister being so happy. It was impossible to see everything, I can’t wait to go back again one day!

Hey Insiders,

As many of you know, I am a dog lover. I have two beautiful puppy dogs named Buster and Jolly. I am going to separate the blogs about my dogs into two separate posts, just so you all can get to know my canine companions a little better.

On Christmas Day 2008, my dad told us he had a surprise for us, and he drove us to the shelter. We were so excited! We had always wanted a dog. Almost immediately after walking in we saw a big beautiful Black Lab, we knew she was the one as soon as we saw her. My dad started calling out commands to her and she did them! He told her to sit, and to lay down. She had a little trouble with the “roll over” command, though. We named her Jolly because we got her on Christmas

Jan-19-Jolly-1-FB3A0829

She was 1.5 years old and the woman at the shelter said that Jolly had been living on the streets and was found on the side of the highway along with a group of puppies. Jolly is so obedient and shy – she is the sweetest dog ever, I don’t understand why someone didn’t want her.

She means the world to me, best dog a girl could ever have. Soon I’ll tell you about Buster!

Love,

Hey Insiders,

Lipstick is a very important part of any look. Getting the right shade and brand is crucial! My favorite brand of lipstick is Yves Saint Laurent.

Jan-17-YSL-1-FB3A0842Reason number 1 is because there are so many choices in color! There are literally hundreds of colors, from light flirty pink, to dark burgundy, to deep red. They even have shades of purple and orange! With all these choices in color, there is no doubt that you can find one that fits both your personality and style perfectly.

The second reason that I love this brand is the quality of their products. I would personally give them five stars. Their colors are opaque and bright. When you apply the lipstick, they melt on your lips like butter! After you apply, the color lasts all day. This means you don’t have to hassle with applying every few hours, and you don’t have to worry about your color fading. The packaging of their products is chic and classy. I feel so fancy using them. And to top that off, there is even a little mirror on the top of the cap so you can look at yourself while applying!

Jan-17-YSL-FB3A0845And finally, last reason I love YSL lipsticks is because they have sunscreen in them! I know that sounds kind of weird, but it is actually a huge benefit. By having SPF 15 in their formula, your lips are protected from harsh UV rays that the sun throws your way. This helps you maintain younger, healthier looking lips!

Try it for yourself, you will fall in lipstick-love just as much as I did!

Love,

Chels

Hello Girls!

Wavy hair is my go-to hair.  It’s so effortless and great when you don’t feel like doing your hair.  Unfortunately, some of us are born with pin-straight hair or you have such thick hair it takes hours to curl.  I’ll show you a few easy ways to get beautiful waves without using a curling iron. Chelsea Crockett- braided waves

If you have thick, long hair, sleep in a long French braid at night.  When you wake up in the morning, take the braids out, and run your fingers through your hair.  You’ll have pretty waves in a flash!  If you have thin or short hair, I wouldn’t recommend this.  Your hair will look kinked and your ends won’t lay flat.

For those of you with thin or short hair, twist or braid small sections of your hair and run a straightener over it a few times.  This will create very soft waves.  Make sure to apply a small amount of hair spray so your waves don’t go flat.  If you have curling moose, layer it throughout your hair to keep the curls in place.  My favorite is Marc Anthony Strictly Curls foam or Curl Envy.  Love your hair and love your curls!
