5 Hints That God is Redirecting You

When we come across open or closed doors, we never know what God is doing in our life. We debate if we should take the opportunity at hand, or simply walk away from it.

How do we know what’s best for us? How do we know when God is giving us hints to change our direction and lead us to something much, much better?

There are many ways to hear God’s voice and discover what he wants for our life, we just have to know what those ways are. When we’re aware of how we can listen and receive guidance from God, life becomes a while lot easier! We just have to lean on him and trust what we know is truly from God!

  1. Your gut feeling.

Everyone always says to “listen to your gut feeling.” Sometimes this is God’s way of telling you when something’s right or wrong. More often than not, we have this gut feeling but choose to ignore it because of doubt or confusion. Trust your instinct!

  1. Wisdom from friends and family.

We all have those people in our life that we go to when we need advice or support. Whether it be your mom, your cousin, or your best friend, having those people to back you up or to tell you when something’s not right is comforting and reassuring. God can speak through people, so go to those who are full of godly wisdom and consider the advice they give you!

  1. Open opportunities.

Sometimes God gives us an open door directly when and where we’re looking for it. Don’t let this go unnoticed! If something is perfectly in your path, there is a good chance God placed it there. Don’t ignore the obvious!

  1. Answered prayers.

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him.” – 1 John 5:14-15

When you ask God for something, he hears you. If you ask for guidance and he gives it to you, don’t question it! God doesn’t want us to be filled with confusion and doubt. He wants so badly for us to have faith in where he sends us, whether you we’re expecting that path or not!

  1. Reoccurring thoughts.

Do you ever try to push a thought out of your head, but it keeps coming back, over and over again? Sometimes these thoughts hold a higher significance than we think. God likes to speak to us in whispers which can come in the form of our thoughts. Once again, listen to your instinct and know what feels right!

Know that when God is redirecting your life, it’s part of his overall plan of the great things he has in store for you. Don’t question what he’s doing. Instead, thank him for the guidance and joy he brings you along the way!

When Silence Is Sinful

We’ve all heard of the silent treatment. We all know the sadness and guilt we feel when we’re on the receiving end of it. On the other end, we’ve also experienced the anger and pain that build up when we cut someone out of our life or decide to choose bitterness over forgiveness.

Silence can result in guilt, regret, sadness, and so much more. When we don’t confront a problem or simply ignore it, the result is almost always worse than what it would’ve been if we would’ve given up silence as a boundary in the first place.

Think about this situation for example. You and your roommates are in a fight, and instead of confronting the problem, you allow it to build up over time and continue to sweep it under the rug. This can either make the problem worse, or never solve anything in the long run… Neither are the outcome you would want!

God looks at these situations and wants us to extend love, forgiveness, and patience. When we approach conflict the way God does, the outcome will be better every single time.

Ephesians 4:31-32 says, “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

God sent his one and only son to pay the price for our sins. He forgives us instantly, without holding a grudge or keeping a track record. So, why wouldn’t we do the same for other people?

This reminds me of the story from the Bible of Peter asking Jesus about forgiveness.

Matthew 18:21-22 says, “Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, ‘Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.”

Jesus then preaches the parable of the unforgiving debtor. The story tells of a king discussing the debt of his servants. One in particular owed the king millions and millions of dollars, but had little to no money to repay him. The servant begged for the king to forgive him, and the king was filled with pity for him. He released the servant and forgave him of his debt.

But when the servant left, he came across a man that owed him a few thousand dollars. He grabbed him by the throat and demanded him to pay him the money. When the king heard about this, he threw the servant in jail until he had paid his entire debt.

Matthew 18:35 says, “That’s what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters from your heart.”

God doesn’t just want us to swallow our pride and forgive others, he demands it. We can’t go through life holding grudges and using silence as a barrier. In the end, this solves nothing, leaving us angrier than we were before.

Take these lessons from the Bible and apply them to your life. Once we start taking Jesus’s advice on how to resolve conflict, life will go a whole smoother!

“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you.” – Isaiah 43:2

Stress is ever-present. It is here to stay and will be part of our lives for the long haul. That is why God gave us verses like Isaiah 43:2. He is our stress reliever- forever.

I find so much comfort in the fact that no matter what the world tosses at me, He is protecting me. Little old me! How crazy is it that the God who created the world is looking out for each and every one of us individually?

Many times we will stress about our careers our whether the person we are dating is “the one.” We try and take it upon ourselves to control the outcome. I am so guilty of this. That is why God gave us Jeremiah 29:11. It says, “I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, the are plans for good and not evil, to give you hope and a future.” We have to let go and let God do his thing. How? By growing in our faith and staying in His word.

In the lowest points of your life are when you are in the least control. That is when it is easiest to surrender to God and say “It’s all you. The full verse of Isaiah 43:2 says, “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” We do not have to be afraid of failure because He will always be there to catch us.

With everything going on in the world, when evil is staring us in the face and knocking on our front door, it gives my heart peace knowing that the Lord still cares for us even in our brokenness. If God is for us, who can stand against us?

So, when you’re feeling like a mess of stress, know that you are eternally loved and that there is a master plan for your life. Know that with certainty.

3 Questions to Ask God Every Day

Our relationship with God should be like our everyday relationships with our friends and family here on earth. We should treat him like the loving father he is, there to listen and there to attend to whatever needs we may have.

1 John 5:14 says, “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.”

God hears us whether we hear his answer or not. I encourage you to start your day by asking him these three simple questions!

  1. How can I follow your will today?

What’s on your agenda for the day may not be the same as God’s agenda. Instead of starting your day by praying for this or that, simply surrender your day to God and let Him control your plans.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

When our day begins by submitting ourselves to the Lord, God will reveal his perfect plans to us throughout each day. Trust him, and amazing things will come your way.

  1. How can I be a witness to others today?

Witnessing to others is one of the most important things to do as a Christian. If we don’t show anyone the love of Christ by the way we talk, act, and think, how will they get to see and hear about how God can impact their life?

1 Peter 3:15 says, “Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it.”

Not only do we have to witness to others, but we have to be ready to explain why we are the way we are and why we do the things we do. If we can’t back up our actions, what’s the point at the end of the day?

It could be as simple as lending a hand to someone that needs one or showing kindness to someone who doesn’t necessarily deserve it. Be the light that Jesus was and is for so many people. Be a walking example of what it looks like to live for Christ.

  1. How can I be the person you want me to be today?

Like I’ve mentioned time and time again, God has a plan for each and every day of your life. Ask him how you can be who he so perfectly created you to be!

Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

I love how he words that: “the good things he planned for us long ago.” That gives us the reassurance we need to know that we really can be the person God has always created us to be.

Tomorrow morning and the mornings after, ask yourself these three questions. Watch both your day and your relationship with God get better and better as you do so!

Leave It, Then See It

God’s timing is perfect. It is never early, and never late. We may not always agree with it, but it is divinely appointed and we can’t argue with it. Patience is something I, and I think most people, struggle with. We want things now, and we want them just the way we like them. Stress tells us that we need everything right this second and we need it to happen now. Faith tells us something different. Faith reminds us that everything will happen when God says that it will happen.

I saw a quote the other day that said “Those who leave everything in God’s hands will eventually see God’s hands in everything.” So, to shorten that quote, I say “Leave it, then see it.”

I am good at giving things to God. I cast my cares on Him. I share the anxieties of my heart and the worries on my mind with Him. I am good at giving things to Him. But, that doesn’t mean I am good at leaving them there. I have a tendency to want to take things back and do them my own way. I have never regretted giving anything to God. I have regretted taking things back.

Isaiah 41:9-10 says I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, ‘You are my servant’; I have chosen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

This verse describes us as the Lord’s servants. We have been chosen by Him. We have no need to be afraid or dismayed because He strengthens and helps us. He loves us and upholds us. Why wouldn’t we leave everything in His hands?

What are you holding on – or trying to take back- from God? Is it career choices, financial struggles, health issues, relationship trials, etc.? Put your fears, doubts, questions and anxieties in the hands of the One who knows every hair on your head. He knows yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He can calm the seas with a single word. He gave sight to the blind. He made the lame to walk. What makes you think he can’t handle your worries?

I am still learning, and will be for a long time, how to trust the hands of the One who created the universe. He will give you peace and security. He will give you clarity. And, best of all, He will give you joy. Leaving everything in His hands means you can see His hands in everything.

5 Easy Lifestyle Boosts to Try for Yourself

If you want a feel-good boost for your body, you can always do the basic “work out more” or “eat healthier” thing, but how many times do we actually carry through with it?  And how long do we actually keep it going when we do?  Here are a few lifestyle boosts that are easy to keep up with and will benefit both your body and mood!

  • Drink more water. Chelsea Crockett - Water I’ve always heard this and thought “yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever,” but it really pays off and makes your body feel all-around better!  Carry around a reusable water bottle with you wherever you go and you won’t even realize how much water you’re drinking throughout the day.
  • Make daily to-do lists.  Checking off tasks on a to-do list is scientifically proven to boost your mood.  It gives you a feeling of accomplishment and success even if it’s completing something super small!
  • Stick to a bedtime and wakeup time.  Once again, science proves that this will benefit both your mind and body greatly.  You’ll feel less tired and more motivated to take on the day!
  • Start your day with a cup of coffee and some time with God.  I know for me, starting the day out by talking to God refreshes me more than anything (and some caffeine doesn’t hurt either!).
  • Don’t use your phone an hour before bed.  Your phone screen gives off blue light that actually keeps your brain awake and alert.  So when you lay down and play on your phone to “make yourself tired,” it’s actually doing the opposite!

I hope you consider giving these a try!  With a little determination, you can make all of these lifestyle boosts an everyday habit!

Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman

Proverbs is one of my favorite books of the Bible. If there was one book with enough instruction on how a godly woman should live, it would be this one….

Proverbs is one of my favorite books of the Bible.

If there was one book with enough instruction on how a godly woman should live, it would be this one.

In today’s society, it can be easy to get caught up in how the world wants us girls to act. We should try to focus on how God views us, instead of how the world views us.

This chapter of Proverbs portrays a woman who values God, strength, and generosity from beginning to end. I wanted to break it apart, verse by verse, and see how we can grow into the godly woman God created us to be!

  • She lacks nothing of value.

I always read this verse and never knew what it was truly saying. God wants us to value the things he values. He values fellowship, forgiveness, love, and so many other things. We should strive to acquire patience, grace, and all of the characteristics he wants us to have.

  • She works vigorously with eager hands.

This verse reminds me to be as hardworking and diligent as I can, in all things I do. Whether it’s my schoolwork or videos for my YouTube channel, I try to put my all into it and give it 110%.

  • She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.

Have you ever tried giving some of your time to those in need? This isn’t the only verse in the Bible that encourages us to do so. Jesus was always helping, always serving, and always dedicated to others. Try it out for yourself and see how both your heart and perspective change.

  • She is clothed with strength and dignity.

As women, we should hold ourselves to high standards. We should remember that with God, being our provider, we will always have all that we need! We should walk through our lives with our heads up high, knowing we can face whatever comes our way.

  • She has no fear of the future.

With strength, comes confidence. As Jeremiah 29:11 says, “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord.” We can be confident in knowing that the God of creation has already declared our plans for the future.

  • She speaks with wisdom.

We should all strive to be quick to listen and slow to anger. We should speak through truth and use our wisdom to guide us. We should be that person in our friend group that can be the voice of reason and leads by example.

  • She fears the Lord.

This characteristic is above all others. A godly woman should fear the Lord and abide by him in any and every situation. Dive deep into the word and begin to feel his presence all around you.

How will you put this into practice? Will you work toward strength, wisdom, and fearing the Lord? Be the light in other people’s lives so they can see how a godly woman should live!

Do you ever hang out with someone and eventually find yourself talking and acting like they do?

It could be in the simplest ways like catching onto their unique phrases or picking up on certain mannerisms.  Regardless, in the littlest ways we start to become the people we surround ourselves with.

In high school, when I would hang out with girls that gossiped and indulged themselves in drama, I started to do the same. I’d catch myself participating in conversations I had no business participating in.

Throughout my life, I’d have friends that constantly brought me down and continuously brought negativity to every situation. I noticed that bad moods are contagious, and moodiness can have a domino effect.

God encourages his followers to pick their “teammates” wisely. Choose the people who are going to make you enjoy life and spur you on to be a better follower of Christ.

This verse puts it perfectly.

Proverbs 13:20 says, “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.”

I know I’m not the only one who has experienced this firsthand. When we surround ourselves with those who are wise and have a good head on their shoulders, we are influenced for the better. When we surround ourselves with those who’re foolish, we are more likely to stumble and fall off our path.

Booker T. Washington said it best: “Associate yourself with people of good quality, for it is better to be alone than in bad company.”

God didn’t create us to be alone. He wants us to have fellowship with other believers more than anything! When you find people that click with you and encourage you to be a better person, that’s when you know you’ve found good people to surround yourself with.

You should have a good balance of people around you who are a positive influence on you and people who you can be a positive influence on them. As much as we want to be around people who make us a better person, we should also be that person for others who need a good influence!

Lastly, take a look at Hebrews 10:24. It says, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds…”

Everyone in your group of friends should be responsible for spurring one another on. God tells us to do it, and encourages us to be the change we want to see in others. Motivate each other toward love and doing good things for others. It takes one person to make a difference, and the rest will soon follow!

Choose your team carefully. Surround yourself with people that reflect who you want to be and how you want to feel. Surround yourself with people who have contagious positivity and encouragement.

Surround yourself with people that make you fall in love with God even more. These are the people that are going to help YOU become a better person in all areas of your life.

Don’t Dig Up What You Planted in Faith

“Don’t dig up in doubt what you planted in faith.” – Elisabeth Elliott I came across this quote the other day, and I found it very fitting for the season…

“Don’t dig up in doubt what you planted in faith.” – Elisabeth Elliott

I came across this quote the other day, and I found it very fitting for the season of life my family is in. We are in a time of major transition. My parents and brother moved to Colorado, I moved to Georgia, and my sister stayed in our hometown to continue going to college. With so much change swirling around in our world, it can be hard not to second guess things.

Before making these big decisions, my family and I lifted them up in prayer. We prayed that God would give us wisdom and clarity about our decisions and would lead us in the right direction. Our actions were planted in faith, faith that God had our futures in His hands and knew where He wanted us. When things started moving along and falling into place, we could see God’s hand in all of it.

But what happens when you start to doubt your decisions? What happens when you are unsure that you made the right choice? Panic and fear seep into your head and heart. That is where Elisabeth Elliott’s wisdom comes in – Don’t dig up in doubt what you planted in faith. Translation? Don’t remove your trust in God’s plan when things start to go wrong. Don’t let your doubt cause you to take back the actions you carried out when you had full faith in them. The devil plants seeds of uncertainty in our hearts. Those seeds can sprout into weeds and quickly suffocate our hopes and optimism.

Our plans and hopes are very fragile in their beginning stages. They can easily be swayed and doubted. Criticism from ourselves and others can make us think of all the reasons we shouldn’t carry them out. We have to give our hopes and dreams and plans a chance to grow and become strong. They are like seeds. These seeds can turn into plants that represent our vision of what will come of our hopes and dreams and plans. Our ideal outcome. Once we have planted a seed, we have to cultivate it. When we let doubt dictate our actions, we are pretty much digging up our ideas out of the ground before they have a chance to grow. You have planted those seeds because you have faith in them – don’t dig them up before they can show you their potential!

Grow Through What You Go Through

Life isn’t butterflies and rainbows. This is something we all know painfully well. Reality isn’t something we can run away or take a break from. Mistakes are made, we fall short of our expectations for ourselves, and no matter how hard we try, things still go wrong.

Bad things happen to good people. Bad things happen to everyone. In these situations, we look up at God and wonder how in the world He is working for the good in our lives. Failure is a reality, and it is impossible to resist. We can look at life’s trials in two ways. One involves letting the hurt and disappoint overtake us and make us into bitter people. Or, we can look at them as an opportunity to improve, learn, have a change of heart, and grow.

When I went away to college in California, I never imagined I would be back home a month later. The whole experience was an enormous learning experience. At the time, it did not feel like anything good would come of the situation. I was feeling so much self-doubt and regret. But, the whole thing taught me a lot about myself. The choices you make are a testament to the life you live. You can either let dire situations destroy you or mold you.

If we never made mistakes, we would stay stationary. Mistakes bring learning and learning shapes your character. Change and growth go hand-in-hand. If you aren’t growing, you aren’t going anywhere.

Life is all about hills and valleys. The valleys make the hills seem that much bigger and better. Bad circumstances are never easy to go through. I can safely say that nobody enjoys going through life’s storms. The important thing to remember is that you are going through them, meaning that you will come out on the other side. Our darkest storms and most painful mistakes can turn into our greatest victories. Think of your deepest regret that happened in your past. How did it change you and how have you learned? Think of the deepest valley you have faced. How did it shape you as a person?

God uses the good and the bad in our lives for the greater good. We need to let our struggles mold and shape us into becoming the woman God intended for us to be. If life was free of struggles, many of us would be shells of the people we are today. We also need to forgive ourselves for things that happened in our past. God is a forgiver, not a condemner.

“Suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope. Romans 5:3-4.” If you are going through a rough patch right now and are struggling to find the courage to keep going, keep this in mind. Your faith and your character are being tested. Hope found in Christ is what will get us through all that life throws at us. You are capable of more than you know.

When the storm has passed, and the clouds have cleared, you may not recognize the woman you have become. And that, my friends, could be the greatest thing to ever happen to you.

Everyone wants fuller, thicker hair.  Especially when you throw your hair up into a ponytail, you want it to appear as full and luscious as it can!  There are lots of different ways you can achieve this, you just have to follow a few tips in order to do so.  Here are 5 different tips to volumize your ponytail!

  • Before every ponytail, you’ll need to add some texture to your hair. This will make your hair look fuller before you even put it into a ponytail.  Whether you do this with mousse or texture spray, it’s the first step to almost every hairstyle!
  • Prop up your ponytail with two bobby pins. Set two bobby pins in place under your ponytail like the picture below.  This gives it the height it needs and will also help keep it in place for the night!Chelsea Crockett - Bobby Pin Hack
  • Add some dry shampoo. Dry shampoo does more than just its original purpose.  If you add some to your hair before you put it up, it’ll feel cleaner and appear thicker!
  • Tease different sections of your hair. To keep the messy look, tease different parts of your pony so it’s not too over-the-top but still has some lift in it.

Greasy hair is a struggle for us all.  They say you’re not supposed to wash your hair every day, but when you don’t, your hair becomes a greasy mess!  Especially if you have thick hair like me, you know the struggle.  If you have this problem too, here are 5 tips that will help you out!

  • Dry Shampoo. If you’ve never used dry shampoo, then get ready to be amazed! It does wonders for your hair.  Spray a little bit of this on your hair at any time of the day and it’ll give it the lift it needs.
  • Baby Powder. If you don’t have any dry shampoo lying around, baby powder almost works just as well!  I found this trick hard to believe, but it really does work!  Sprinkle a small amount of powder around your scalp to disappear any grease your hair has.  It’s a cheap and quick method to substitute for dry shampoo!
  • Hats and Headbands. As you can already guess, hats and headbands are the perfect cover-up for greasy hair.  They’re the key solution to any messy hair day, trust me!
  • Braid it. Braiding the top of your hair makes for a cute hairstyle while still doing a good job of covering up dirty hair!  You can still look good on your way to class without worrying about it!

Prayer journaling is something that’s become a really big part of my spiritual life.  It’s something that brings me closer to God and has changed my perspective on prayer as a whole.  There are so many things about prayer journaling that I want to tell you about so you can dive into prayer in a whole new way, too!

Chelsea Crockett - Prayer JournalFirst, you’ll need an empty journal with lots of blank pages that are ready to be filled!  I like to start by writing a list of different things I want to start praying for.  Whether it be a friend that’s going through something or a hard test that’s coming up, I write it all down.  Put on paper everything that’s on your mind and everything that needs prayer.

Now comes the best part.  Find a quiet spot where you can be alone with God, just you and him. You can either pick one of those things you put on your list to journal about or just spill out your heart to God, about anything and everything.  These are like your own little love notes to God.  There’s no wrong way to write your out your needs and wants to him.  My favorite part about writing my prayers down is being able to look back at them and see how God has answered my requests.  Watch how he is faithful and see how he answers your prayers when you need him to!

So, what do you think?  Are you going to try it out?  Now that I’ve started, I can’t stop! 🙂

Do you ever just feel overwhelmed with life? I feel most overwhelmed when my room is a mess, my closet is a mess, my bathroom is a mess, and everything else is a mess! The best way to keep that overwhelmed feeling at bay is to simplify your life and de-clutter. I am moving to a different state soon, which means I am diving head first into packing up and de-cluttering my life. Here are a few easy ways to declutter your space so you can feel like you’ve got your life together. These are things you can get rid of and not even miss.

Magazines: Let’s face it. We all have a pile of magazines in our room that we insist we will eventually read or make crafts out of. Recycle those puppies! If you haven’t read them yet, you probably won’t be getting to it any time soon. You will always get new magazines in the mail, or if you need them for crafts you can get them at Goodwill!

Makeup: I have a whole tub of half-used or forgotten-about makeup. What good is it if I don’t use it? Some of it is dried up or broken. Why in the world do I keep it? I have no idea. Toss it!

Hangers: I always seem to have a ton of abandoned hangers jutting out from my closet. They always get in the way when I am trying to put laundry away or pick out clothes to wear. Grab all of those lonely hangers and put them in a storage bin or just get rid of them!

Crafts: Those half-finished DIYs sitting around? Those need to go.

You will not believe how good it feels to de-clutter your space. Seriously, it feels so freeing! Simplifying life is important.

4 Do’s and Don’ts of Eyebrow Waxing

Being a girl can be a struggle.  If you’re like me, you were born with thick, dark eyebrows that you have to keep up with!  I always find myself plucking, trimming, and waxing my brows more often than I should.  But I just recently learned about some waxing do’s and don’ts that should assure me the best wax possible! 🙂

  • DO get them done by someone you trust. Chelsea Crockett - Eyebrow ShapeYour eyebrows are seen by everyone, so you want them to look the best they can!  I like to go to nail or hair salons that have been recommended to me by a friend.  This way I can trust that the same person will hopefully do just as good of a job on my own brows!
  • DO know your eyebrow shape. Especially if you wax them yourself, you need to know which shape is best for your brows. You’ll want to know what frames your face the best!  Everyone is different so know what you’re going for! 🙂
  • DON’T wax them too frequently. Although waxing every once in a while won’t hurt your skin, too much of anything can be harmful! Waxing should keep the hair around your eyebrows away for a good amount of time.  That being said, simply wax them when you’re starting to see hair grow back, not every few days!
  • DON’T wax your eyebrows too close to a big event. Regardless of how many times you’ve done it before, you never know how your skin will react. Give your skin a few days to heal before your event!

Have any other tips for me to add to my list?  I can use all the help I can get!

XOXO – Chels
