People love to jump to conclusions about God and the Bible. They make assumptions about who God is and the meaning behind different scriptures and verses.

But the truth is, there is so much more joy, knowledge, and certainty behind Christianity that so many people don’t know about. I’m here to break some of the well-known “myths” that often revolve around God, his love for us, and what the Bible really means.

MYTH: The Bible was written thousands of years ago so it doesn’t apply today.

TRUTH: Although the Bible is a historic book written years and years ago, we, as Christians, still use it as a compass and tool today and for the days to come. God didn’t intend for the Bible to be forgotten about or not taken as seriously in the present day. If we believe that God is all-knowing, of the past, present, and future, then we should also believe that he knew the Bible would still be used today and for all the days to come. Lean on its word and believe the truth that’s inside!

MYTH: Being a Christian means you lose the freedom to do what you want to do, when you want to do it.

TRUTH:
People often think that God gives us rules to live by to take away our “fun” or our freedom. This is the furthest from the truth. God gives us a set of rules to live by because he knows what’s best for us. When we do life God’s way, we discover his truth and the joy that comes along with it. Try it for yourself!

MYTH: Prayer doesn’t really make a difference.

TRUTH: Prayer is powerful! It truly does make a difference. Without prayer, we have no way to sit and have a conversation with God.

1 John 5:14-15 says, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him.”

We know that prayer makes a difference because it says so numerous times throughout the Bible. We can have the confidence in knowing that God really does hear us and desires the best for us. If you believe in scripture, then it is so clear that God uses prayer as a gateway to hear our requests and praises, and point us in the direction he wants us to go.

MYTH: It’s hard to believe in a God you can’t see.

TRUTH: 1 Peter 1:8 says, “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.” Sometimes it can be hard when we can’t directly hear God’s voice or see that he’s right beside us, but I promise you he always is! He is constant, present, and knows our innermost being. He’s our heavenly father that gave so much for us so we could live our days freely in his everlasting presence! Try leaning on him and you’ll start to feel the warmth and love of Christ all around you.

Don’t always jump to conclusions or assume what you hear about God and the Bible is true. Dive into his word and discover the truth for yourself! 🙂

One of the worst things in the world is feeling like your faith is being overpowered by fear.

It’s a feeling you never want to experience. You start feeling hopeless, sad, and alone.

As for me, I consider myself a person that is very strong in their faith. I always try to lean on God for direction and strength, and he is faithful every time.

If you need a reminder on how to keep your faith bigger than your fear, keep these 3 verses in mind.

  • James 1:6 says, “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.”

When you ask your friend for a favor, do you automatically assume they’re not going to do it?  Most of the time, you trust that they’re going to answer your request.

Without thinking, we should do the same with God. If we ask him halfheartedly for something, why would he answer our requests? He wants us to be on fire for him. Not hoping he’s working in our lives, but knowing he’s doing amazing things.

We “must believe and not doubt.” This is where we have to take a leap of faith to strengthen the foundation we stand on.

  • Matthew 17:20 says, “You can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Think of the mountains in your life. Maybe it’s your boyfriend? A big test coming up? A dishonest friend? Whatever the situation may be, God will move in the midst of it.

If you ask God to move your mountains, watch the beauty of prayer unfold before your eyes. You’ll never truly experience the power of prayer until you pray with faith, through faith, and in faith.

  • Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”

Faith is a word with many meanings. For one, Hebrews puts it perfectly. Faith is confidence in what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. We don’t pray with wavering thoughts, we pray for certainty that God will heal our brokenness and fear.

There is one last verse in particular that speaks to me every time I read it. John 13:7 says, “Jesus replied, ‘You don’t understand now what I am doing. But someday you will.”

He knows we don’t always understand his plan. He knows we have mountains. He knows we can be people of little faith.

Jesus was fully man and fully God. He understands our struggles and disappointments. But more importantly, understands the one that’s in control.

We may not see it now, but one day God will reveal his plan to us in all its glory. We just have to be willing to put our full trust in Him.

Let your faith be bigger than your fear, every single day.

Have you ever found yourself in one of those amazing situations where you can’t believe that something just happened!  Imagine this: You had your final English paper due in the morning, but were up all night listening to your parents fight.  You weren’t able to finish the paper, because all of the turmoil in your house.  As you walk into class, prepared to tell the teacher that you didn’t finish, your teacher decides to move the due date.  Amazingly, you have an extra 2 days to finish your paper!  Is this a coincidence?  No, this is God winking at you.Chelsea Crockett- God Wink

A God wink is like a coincidence.  When God sees you’re in need of Him, He delivers.  God really does take care of you when you follow Him.  This is the best part about being a believer!  Think about those times when your grandpa gave you a wink from across the dining room table.  You knew that that was a reminder that he loves you and is thinking about you.  It’s the same with God!  It’s an answered prayer that leaves you speechless.  These God winks are little messages of reassurance that He loves us, cares for us, and will always be there for us.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10

cross_magnetThis past year I spent time as a children’s camp councilor for my church. I had so much fun and was so blessed to see how God can work in the lives of children. One very important lesson that was taught that week was the ABC’s of becoming a Christian. What are these? Let me explain! These are the steps it takes to ask Jesus into your heart.

A-     Admit you are a sinner.  This means that you tell God that you are a sinner and that you need His forgiveness. We are all sinners, every single one of us, but God forgives us no matter what.

B-      Believe that Jesus is God’s son and that God sent Jesus to pay the price for our sin.  John 3:16 backs this up by telling us “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that whoever believes in him shall have everlasting life.

C-      Confess. Confess your Faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Romans 10:9 says  That “if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. “

Asking Jesus into your heart is so simple, and it is the best decision you will ever make.  He will change your life!

XOXO, Chels
