“Before you were born, I set you apart.” Jeremiah 1:5

Have you ever wanted something or wanted to do something so badly, and then when you finally did it you realized that it is possible you weren’t destined for that at all? For example, you may think you should be the one in front of the camera, when in reality, you should be the one working the camera. Maybe you feel the pressure to be in front of the camera because that is what others have told you, but after experiencing it yourself, realize that it is not the right fit for you.

This is because God has given each of us specific abilities, experiences, passions and talents. We are unique and there is no one out there just like you. We have been designed by the creator of the universe – and designed to do different things.

Do you look at people on Instagram and wish you were like them? Wish you looked like them, had a house like them, had a job like them, or wore the clothes they did?  Jealousy is a vicious monster. God made each of us different – and with different purposes. He set you apart from everyone else before you were even born. That is why we have to trust God’s plan for us and fight jealousy of others. He will see His purpose for your life come to pass in His own time. We must use the gifts and talents we have been given and see our differences as assets. I once saw a quote that said “We live in the past, dream of the future, and often miss today, this moment, the here and now.”

How true. We dwell on the things we don’t have instead of reveling in what we DO have. Are you using the assets God blessed you with? Have you been taking full advantage of the talents He has given you? He has set you apart. He has appointed you. Let that encourage and uplift you! The One who created the moon, the stars, the mountains and valleys, He created YOU!

To Everything There is a Season

“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1

There is a time for exactly where you are – whether it is a time of healing, a time of questioning, a time of excitement, a time of confusion, a time of doubt, a time of laughing, a time of dancing, or even a time in between.

Maybe, if you’re like me, it is a time for planning and planting. This season is full of school and studying for my degree, full of wedding planning and also planning for my new life and new “normal.” If you are also in a busy season of life like the one I’m in, sometimes it can feel like you’re dropping the ball on some things in order to keep others up in the air. Maybe some of your friendships aren’t as strong as they used to be because you have to spend more time studying. Maybe you’ve had to put some hobbies on hold so that you can put your future first. In these times we must remember that “to everything there is a season.”

Accepting your season instead of feeling bad about it is one way to calm your heart and mind. There will be a time when school is over, weddings will be over, and life will start a brand new season. That may be the season where you pick things up where you left off, whether it be with friends or hobbies or anything else you’ve had to put on the back burner. During all seasons we should stay grateful, faithful, and supportive of one another. Learn from your seasons and be able to look back on them as teachable times. After all, every moment of your life is a time that has been handpicked by God. Maybe you are anxiously awaiting a season that has not yet started in your life. Maybe you feel stuck in a rut and are wishing for a change of scenery. Wherever you are and whatever you are feeling, be ready to trust in His timing. Embrace the season you are in and everything going on in your life right now, because in the blink of an eye, at can all change.

What season are you in? Evaluate, accept, and embrace the season. And remember, don’t get too comfortable, because every season is just that – a season.

Be a Ruth

“Do not press me to leave you or to turn back from following you! Where you go, I will go; where you stay, I will stay; your people shall be…

“Do not press me to leave you or to turn back from following you! Where you go, I will go; where you stay, I will stay; your people shall be my people, and your God my God.” Ruth 1:16

When you think of Ruth from the Bible, I’m guessing that this verse comes to mind. Ruth’s story isn’t flashy or dramatic – but she is a Biblical superhero. She is brave, obedient, loyal, faithful, bold, courageous, loving, and kind. These are characteristics we should all strive to possess. These are life’s real superpowers.

Ruth was obedient when God guided her on a path she wasn’t expecting – a path that took her far from her family from home. She followed her mother in law, Naomi, even when the easier decision would have been to stay put. She decided to remain loyal to Naomi even though her husband, the link that connected the them, had passed away. God rewarded her obedience with a bigger blessing than she could have ever imagined – by introducing Boaz into her life. Through their love, they added to the family tree that eventually led to King David and even Jesus. Ruth scavenges for food in Boaz’s fields to feed Naomi, which is what introduced them and began their love story.

“I’ve been told about what you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband — how you left your father and mother and your homeland and came to live with a people you did not know before. May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.” {Ruth 2:11-12}

Her story isn’t just a story of love – love for Naomi and eventually Boaz – it is a story about God. The book of Ruth demonstrates the kind of faithfulness and love that God wishes for us. It also shows us the difference between what happens when we as both individuals and as a group faithfully follow God.

Love selflessly and you will be shown the same in return. Be a Ruth. Be loyal in your relationships, go the extra mile, and don’t give up when things get tough. Someday you will see why it was worth the work.

To Pray is to Let Go

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

To summarize, to pray is to let go and let God take over. I know this is easy to say and way harder to put into actual practice. There are times in our lives when the bills are piling up, our email inboxes are overflowing, we are injured and cant exercise or play the sport we love, our faith feels as though it is getting further and further from us, you wonder if you are secure at your job, and so many more situations that can arise. Feelings of doubt, worry, anxiety, and stress bubble up. Life’s trials are immeasurable, but so is God’s goodness.

One of the best mental health exercises I have adapted in times like I mentioned above is to think to myself “Do these emotions serve any positive purpose in my life?” The answer is no more often than not. It is in those moments that I have to consciously decide to let go of them and breathe. You come to a point in life where you have done everything you can do, and the rest is out of your control. You have to completely surrender to the Lord. Losing sleep and getting sick with worry is not worth it – especially when Philippians 4:6-7 tells us that, when we give everything to God, he will strengthen and sustain you. The Bible is full of God’s promises to us – He gives us direction and advice on how to handle what life throws at us.

Remember in these times that the Lord is working behind the scenes in your life. We just need to pray to Him and make our requests known. Stressed? Pray. Worried? Pray. Focus on the Lord instead of your problems, and suddenly your woes seem much smaller. I pray that this message is both a friendly reminder and an encouragement for you all at the same time!

“And I will call her who was unloved ‘my beloved.” Have you ever felt unloved? Unworthy? Undesired? Then Romans 9:25 is meant for you.

Even when we feel rejected by those around us, Jesus calls us His beloved. He adores us because we are His children. He created us in His image! In our darkest moments where we feel like there is no one who understands us, cares for us, values us or truly loves us, we can remember that Jesus calls us beloved. No one on this planet will ever love us the way He does. He gave up His life for us. That is the most selfless act of love anyone can do. Jesus will always love us, no matter how much we sin and disappoint Him.

You are beloved. You are loved. You are worthy. The Bible tells us so.

Psalm 93:4 says “Mightier than the waves of the sea is His love for you.”

What an incredible visual. When you gaze at waves on the ocean, you can see just how powerful waves are as they rumble to the shore. That’s why this verse is so meaningful to me. It says that God’s love for us is mightier than the waves on the sea. No one on this earth will love you like that. If you are feeling lonely, sad, misunderstood, or unloved, I think this is a great verse to study. Next time you are at the ocean, take a minute to admire the strength of the waves and remember that God’s love for you is even mightier.

Recently in my quiet time with God I ran across a verse that really touched my heart. The verse is Proverbs 16:9 and it says “People can plan what they want to do, but it is the Lord who guides their steps.” Let me tell you why this verse struck a cord with me.

I like to plan things out. I know i’m not the only one out there who likes to have a plan before going into anything, and likes to know what she has to do next. I like planning life out! It makes me feel in control. You know what the problem with that is? It is that I am not the one that is in control, GOD is. No matter how many life plans I make, or how hard I try to plan for the future and plan my future out, God is the one who has the ultimate say in how my life goes. I can plan all I want! I can take a piece of paper and write down what I want my life to look like in 5 years and make all the plans my heart desires. But it is God who determines your steps, and where life takes you. Pray to Him about your desires for your life. If they are His desires for you, too, He will see them through! He will guide your steps and will take your life down the path that He desires. That is such a comfort to me, because it lets me know that I do not need to worry about how my life will go, I just need to trust in God and seek Him and he will lead me where He wants me.

I pray that you trust God with your future as well. He can do such amazing things in your life if you invite Him in!

My Past Was Made Clean By My King

Does the thought ever cross your mind that you have made so many mistakes and have sinned so much that you don’t feel like you deserve God’s love? We should never feel like that. It doesn’t matter what we say, what we do, what mistakes we make, God still loves us unconditionally.kid

My past was made clean by my King. Any mistake or sin that I made in the past has been washed away. If you ask God to forgive you, He does and doesn’t look back. It doesn’t matter how long or how often you have sinned, because we ALL sin and fall short of what God expects of us. But no matter how many times we fall down, He picks us back up and says that our past has been forgiven. We can move forward knowing that our sin and shame is behind us and we have a clean slate.

In our lives, we will all have times when we feel like we need a fresh start. God makes your past clean and gives you a renewed sence of purpose and a bright future. If you ever feel like you don’t deserve His love or forgiveness, just remember that He created you and loves you unconditionally. Your past can be made clean by your King.

Esther 4:14 says that “Perhaps you were born for such a time as this.” What does that verse mean to you? To me it means that God has put you on this earth at this time and has placed you where you are and with the people you are with for a reason.esthter

Maybe God has you where you are in life so that you can be an influence on the people that you work with and go to school with. Maybe He brought on a major life-change that you weren’t expecting or wanting because He wanted you to be somewhere else to influence someone else. Maybe He has you where you are so that you can be more involved in ministries or Bible studies to strengthen your Faith. He may be opening and closing doors in your life because He is leading you to bigger and better things. If we are patient and are open to His calling, we can realize the plans He has for us and for the people we will influence. This verse in Esther is talking about when a woman in the Bible named Esther was told that “you were born for such a time as this” and in your life, you can make a difference where God has placed you.

You may not see the opportunity now, but if you stay willing and open to His calling, you will find so much fulfillment in His plans!

Maybe you were born for such a time as this. This moment in time. This stage of life.

2 Timothy 4:17 says “But the Lord stood by be and strengthened me.” Have you ever felt like no one had your back and you were alone? This verse tells us that we never have to feel like that, because God has our back, always.

In situations where I feel like my faith is being attacked or I am being personally attacked, I always try to remember that the Lord is standing by me and strengthening me. Being on YouTube, I can read the comments on my videos, and sometimes they are not the timothysweetest words. Don’t get me wrong, there are way more sweet, nice comments and supporters than there are negative Nancy’s. But, sometimes those negative comments can overshadow all of the good. That is when I remember that the Lord with with me and is strengthening me. When you feel like you are alone in a situation, when you feel attacked or belittled, or you just feel weak and helpless, just remember that the Lord is always by your side, strengthening you.

You are never alone, and you never have to feel weak or helpless! God has your back, always.

It is so easy to get caught up in the troubles of this world. It is easy to become angry, irritable, sarcastic, and all kinds of other negative emotions. Yet, Proverbs 3:3 says “ Do not let kindness and truth leave you.”

When I read this verse I immediately think “How am I treating people around me? Am I treating them with kindness? Am I speaking the truth?” As a Christian, it is really important for me to embody everything this verse says. Why? A couple of reasons. The first is proverbsife because God’s word tells me to. It tells me to be kind and to tell the truth, because those are two things that God wants His followers to represent. The second reason it is important for me to do what this verse says is because I am a Christian, therefore people look to me and watch how I act. They look to me to see how I live and what I stand for. I set an example for others, and my actions can either bring honor and glory to God, or they can dishonor and shame Him. My goal is to bring glory to God in everything I do, which means being kind to others, even when it is not easy, and to speak truth.

Don’t let kindness and truth escape you, because not only do these two attributes make you a more likeable, nice person, they also bring glory to God.

Start, Stay, and End with Jesus

“That is SO goals” ,“Omg GOALS!”, “They are total relationship goals.” How many times a day to we hear people say these phrases? To me, these words seem trivial. Is your goal to really have a relationship like that person? They may wish they had a relationship like yours. Instead of setting minute goals such as the ones the world tells us are worth our time and effort, I say we focus on one daily goal: to start, stay, and end with Jesus.

  1. Start with Jesus: Morning time alone with God is crutial to maintaining a healthy relationship with Him. If it means setting your alarm 10 minutes earlier so you can read your Bible or a short devotional when you get up in the morning, then do it. You will feel so much better, more prepared, and encouraged going into the day after spending time with God!d8e146298932786e62eabfa869fc76f5
  2. Stay with Jesus: During the day, send up little prayers to God when He crosses your mind. Are you worried about something? Pray about it. Stressed? Pray about it. Also, throughout your day, make sure you are acting and presenting yourself to others in a way that glorifies God and brings attention to Him by setting a positive example for your peers.
  3. End with Jesus: If this means a prayer right before you go to bed or sitting around the table with family at the end of the day and praying as a family, make sure you close out the day by spending time with the One who gave the day to you in the first place. Confess your sins to him and ask forgiveness, then pray that He would work through you in the days to come.

Start, stay, and end with Jesus every day. Your life will never be the same!
