You can develop a relationship with the Lord starting any time, any day. Building a relationship with God is one of the most amazing things that he desires for each and every one of us.

As I began diving deeper and deeper into my walk with God, I would try different books, journals, devotionals, etc. that would help me do so. Through all the different things I collected, I found that some items aided in my relationship with God tremendously and wanted to share them with you!

A Bible.

First and foremost, you’ll need a Bible that suits your style. For me, I like journaling Bibles where I can write little notes and comments next to certain verses. It helps me remember what I’ve read and allows me to meditate on it. There are also study Bibles that provide further information on certain topics, stories, verses, etc. that can help clarify what it means!

With all of the different types of Bibles, you can find one that is easiest for you to read and understand. There are lots of styles of Bibles out there, so pick the version and type that will work best for you!

A prayer journal.

Prayer journals give you a place to write down anything you may be feeling and refer back to it in the future. I prayer journal on all occasions, when I’m feeling thankful, sad, frustrated, lost… Writing out my feelings is not only therapeutic, but helps me collect my thoughts and calm me down. My favorite thing to do is to go back and read what I’ve written in the past and see what God has done in my life!

A daily devotional.

Having a set daily devotional will encourage you to stay on track as well as give you a dose of God’s word every single day! I realized it gave me a sense of accountability to make sure I spent even as little as five minutes with God. Figure out what time of the day works best for your schedule and stick with it! I suggest first thing in the morning to start your day off on the right foot. Set your alarm for 10-20 minutes earlier than you normally would, and see how that small amount of time can impact your day and attitude!

Topic-specific books.

As you grow in your relationship with the Lord, you may begin having questions and curiosities about certain parts of the Bible. It’s completely normal to start wondering beyond the surface level. There are many books that will help you dive deeper into whatever topic you may be curious about! Jump in and discover all there is to know about God and his Word.

I encourage you to buy these items and get on track for an amazing relationship with God. We are fortunate enough to have so many resources to grow closer to him, so take advantage of them and start today! 🙂

There’s nothing I love more than starting my day off with a devotion. If you’re unfamiliar with what this is, it’s usually a short message/lesson on different topics to start or end your day with God’s Word. My devotional books give me a little encouragement and advice on how to get through the day being the best person I can be. I thought I’d share my three favorite books with you, so you can bring some light into your day, too!

  • My all-time favorite morning devotional is Jesus Calling. Each day there is a little passage that ends with a Bible verse to go along with it.Chelsea Crockett - Jesus Calling It definitely starts my day off right with a little advice on how to get through school, practice, or anything else I have scheduled. You can order it online here: http://tiny.cc/JesusCallingDevotional.
  • Trusting God Day by Day by Joyce Meyer is another awesome daily devotional. Again, this book has a passage each day but ends with a simple challenge about trust. The challenges are as simple as praying to God about a certain topic or choosing to let go of negativity for the day. Each day is different! Why not challenge yourself to stay on track?
  • Another daily devotional by Joyce Meyer that is aimed towards women is called The Confident Woman Devotional. Each page opens with a Bible verse followed by a encouraging and guiding passage. What’s cool about this book is that it ends with a prayer. That way you’re always starting your day in God’s Word and talking with Him.

What’s your favorite devotional book to read? Share with me below and I might check it out myself!

Love, Chels

I recently had a friend travel to Europe so we started brainstorming ways to help her enjoy the long flight! Here are some ideas that we came up with:

1.  Bring Comfort in Your Carry-on!  It’s always good to pack a neck pillow, an eye mask, earplugs, and/or headphones. These items will allow you to catch some necessary ZZZ’s before landing at your destination. Chelsea Crockett- long flight essentials

2.  Bring Novels and/or Magazines!  Long flights or car rides are always a good time to chill and take time to read.  Whether you like to dive into a long novel or catch up on the latest Seventeen Magazine, reading can make the time fly!

3.  Bring your IPad, IPhone, and/or IPod!  Before your trip, be sure to download your favorite music, movies, books, and games.  Many hours can be spent entertaining yourself with these gadgets!  If you are flying with family or friends, why not challenge them to a friendly competition with one of your games.  A little competition is always good!

4.  Bring Snacks!  Airplane food is filled with sodium and preservatives…..not my favorite and certainly not healthy.  Pack some nuts, fruit, protein bars, etc. to keep yourself satisfied and not agitated because of lack of food.

I hope these tips will help you the next time you find yourself on a long journey to your favorite destination!

Bon voyage!

What’s the first thing that pops into your head when you think of reading? School? Boredom? Maybe even disgust? For some people, reading is a getaway or a favorite pastime. But for others, it can be a punishment! There are so many benefits to reading, including increased grades and a larger vocabulary. Getting into a book is the first step, and I’m here to help you do it!

First of all, don’t just pick a random book off the shelf when looking for one to read. Think of what type you could be interested in. Maybe a cheesy loveChelsea Crockett - John Green Books story or a scary mystery is up your alley! If you haven’t read John Green I suggest The Fault in Our Stars or Paper Towns. Try out a popular book like one of these, and, if you like it, check out other books that are similar!

Once you get a good book, find a quiet, cozy room and put away other distractions such as your phone or computer. I promise… Once you put down your phone, it becomes 10x easier! Also, give your book at least a couple chapters before you say it’s too boring to read. A lot of good books don’t start heating up until you’re a little farther into it. Be patient :).

Now you might be thinking that reading is just a waste of your time! But studies show that reading increases concentration, focus, and memory. It also reduces stress which is something all of us could use a little help with!

So insiders… put down your phone and pick up a book. You won’t regret it!

Traveling is one of my favorite things to do, but being on a plane for hours at a time can get boring.  You’re so excited to get to your destination that time seems to barely move!  The key to an easy and entertaining flight is packing the perfect carry-on bag.  Check out my list below!Chelsea Crockett- airport

  • Magazines or a good book:  Get lost in a book and the time will fly!
  • Music player and headphones:  Whether it’s your iPhone or an mp3 player, having music is a must!  Try downloading some new songs before you hit the airport!
  • Snacks:  Not all airlines serve snacks during your flight.  Don’t starve yourself by refusing to buy that $10 pack of peanuts they sell on the plane.  Instead, pack a variety of quick and easy snacks to keep you satisfied the whole flight long.
  • A jacket:  Most airplanes are set at a cool temperature since guests have to sit so close together.  Be sure to pack a jacket so you’re not freezing mid-air.
  • Chap Stick:  The air in most airplane cabins is cool and dry.  Trust me, you’ll be glad you brought this with you.
  • Neck pillow:  If you have a little extra room in your bag, try bringing a neck pillow.  It will make sleeping on the plane so much more comfortable.  Don’t expect the airline to supply you with a pillow and blanket!

Safe travels,

Chelsea

Hey insiders!

As you all have seen in some of my pictures, tweets, videos, etc., I love The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.  It’s easily one of the best books I’ve ever read.  Most people haven’t heard of the other amazing books he’s written, so I’m here to give you a little inside on John Green’s other award-winning accomplishments!Chelsea Crockett - John Green Books

If you’re a book worm, there’s no doubt you’ve at least heard of The Fault in Our Stars.  It’s the story of Hazel, a cancer patient that falls head over heels for a former cancer survivor, Augustus Waters. I can’t get over how outstanding this book is and I highly suggest you read it!  Click here to check it out:http://tiny.cc/TheFaultinOurStars

Another must-read is Looking for Alaska. This is a story about a boy nicknamed “Pudge” that transfers to a boarding school named Culver Creek. He meets a girl named Alaska and automatically develops a crush on her.  I don’t want to give too much away, but that it’s an awesome book.  Get it here if you’re interested:

In addition to these two, there’s Paper Towns, Let It Snow, An Abundance of Katherines, and a few others.  There’s also Will Grayson, Will Grayson which my friend is currently reading… and loving! John Green is an amazing author whose books will bring you to tears.  So, next time you’re home on a rainy day, kick back and open up one of these incredible books!

Back to School: Ways to Organize Your Locker

Hey everyone!  We don’t want to accept it, but school is coming up faster than we think.  Staying organized is one of the biggest things we need to do to succeed throughout the year.  Whether you’re in high school or grade school, you will most likely have a locker to be responsible for keeping it clean and organized.

Chelsea Crockett - LockerFirst off, dividing and keeping your books in a certain spot each day is a good way to quickly know which book to grab before class.  Buying locker shelves or dividers are perfect for organizing your books, binders, and notebooks.  Click here to check out Amazon’s selection of locker accessories!  To help remember which books are which, try organizing them alphabetically, by color, or in order of your classes.  This will help you easily remember which books to throw in your backpack before class.

Another fun tip is to keep a small whiteboard on the side of your locker.  This way you can write notes, reminders, and needed homework for the next day or for what to take home.  Every once and a while remember to take out any old and unneeded homework or papers.  A cluttered locker leads to an unorganized one!

Hope this makes going back to school a little easier!
