Failing is part of life, but no one said it has to be an easy part. It can make you feel depressed, inadequate, and can sometimes be embarrassing. Rejection is tough, and how you deal with it can really determine how successful and happy you are. Being resilient is such an important quality have. Resilience is the ability to take failure and rise above it! How do you get over failure and persevere through it? Here are 4 ways to be resilient.

  1. Don’t ignore your emotions: Looking at the bright side of a situation isn’t always realistic, especially when you are feeling like a failure. Let yourself feel the sad emotions, don’t try to push them down. Once you have allowed yourself to feel the negative emotions you leave room for the positive ones to take over!
  2. Be realistically optimistic: Life isn’t always rainbows and butterflies, we all know that. Just know life has ups and downs and that life isn’t going to be easy all of the time. Keep a positive outlook on things, but also be realistic.
  3. Have a strong support system: This is so important. Always having a strong network of friends and family that support you is vital for when you come across hard times. They will be right there by your side when times get tough and will help you back up when you fall. They can build your happiness back up and make you feel more resilient!
  4. Be grateful: Appreciate all of the positive things in your life, take joy in your victories no matter how small they are. When you are positive even about the small things, the big things don’t seem so bad. Have an attitude of gratitude and be thankful for everything going RIGHT in life.

Life is tough, but you are tougher!

Being thankful is a year-round job, not just a thing we do around Thanksgiving. Actually, it has been scientifically proven that being thankful has health benefits! Gratitude is something that we all can show every day. Showing others that we are grateful for them makes us happier, improves our relationships, productivity, health, and even our sleep! Here are 10 ways that having an attitude of gratitude can benefit you.

  1. Sleep: My favorite! By writing down a few grateful thoughts before bed, your stress levels are reduced and your relaxation response is triggered.
  2. Emotions: Being grateful reduces toxic emotions like rage, regret, and frustration. It reduces feelings of envy and makes our experiences happier and also helps us recover from stress!
  3. Relationships: Showing others you are grateful for them helps boost your friendships. Showing others kindness by doing things like holding the door and saying thank you makes you feel good inside as well as shows others you care. People want to be around people like that!
  4. Self-esteem: We perform better and act better when we are confident and happy. Gratitude reduces our feeling of jealousy because instead of feeling jealous or resentful about what other people have, we are grateful for what we have and are able to appreciate other people’s accomplishments.

Having an attitude of gratitude can really change your outlook on life and brighten it! An easy way to get in the habit of being thankful is to keep a gratitude journal. Simply write down 3 things you are grateful for as soon as you wake up and before you go to bed. It can be things as simple as the sunshine, or even a great score on a test. Train your mind to default to positivity. It will change your life.

Life is stressful. I am sure you know this already! We over-commit ourselves and stretch ourselves thin, trying to get everything done and hang out with everyone we can. Between work, your social life, and lack of sleep your body can take a beating. Giving yourself a break and letting yourself relax will help keep you sane. Here are some signs that your mind and body need a break.FullSizeRender (94)

By looking for the signs that show that our bodies are needing rest and might want to shake some things up, we can stay happier, healthier and more in love with life each day. Here are eleven things to look for in deciding when to take a breather.

  1. Work is life: Don’t let the “workaholic” culture get the best of you! Being motivated to work hard and perform well is
great, but you also need to give yourself a break for downtime. This allows your mind and body to recoup and makes you a better worker.
  2. You feel like you are exhausted: Having a crazy schedule can make you feel exhausted. Try and go to bed at a decent time, and listen to your body when it tells you “hey, I am tired, take a break”.
  3. You feel emotional: Signs that you have pushed yourself too far are that you are irritable, panicked, cant sleep well, and have a different appetite. When your body is fatigued it affects your hormones and mood, which affect everyone around you.

When you start to feel burned out, mentally and physically, it is a sign that you need to take a breather. Take a break and have some “me time”, it will make you happier and healthier and will lead you to a more well-balanced life.

Emotions are a crazy thing. One moment you’re happy, the next moment you’re sad; one second you’re loving life, the next you’re angry at the world. What is going on?! Learning how to balance emotions is tricky, but it can be done. Once you’ve learned how to control the way you feel, life will be a much happier place!Chelsea Crockett- worry

  1. When I am feeling stressed, upset, or unappreciated I always turn to my Bible. It reassures me that I am loved, taken care of, and that God will take care of anything that is worrying me.
  2. Make a list of everything you are thankful for. Every time you are sad or angry, read the list. You will realize how much you should be grateful for.
  3. Surround yourself with people that lift you up! If you notice a friend that is always negative or putting you down, it’s time to drop them. If they aren’t doing anything to benefit your life, it’s time to move on.
  4. Go for a run! Running releases endorphins, which, in the simple sense, makes your brain happy.
  5. Take time for yourself. I understand that school, work, sports, family, and friends can be a lot to handle at once, but it’s important to take time to breathe. Set aside 30 minutes to 1 hour a day to watch your favorite show, do a DIY project, or just hangout!

Life is good, so let’s spend it happily!
