Halloween is the one night of the year where you get to be whatever you want to be.  There are so many different costumes and makeup looks you can try out to make it the best Halloween yet!  Mermaid costumes are easy to pull off and fun to create a makeup look for.  Here’s an easy makeup tutorial you can try out this Halloween!

Chelsea Crockett - Mermaid Makeup Look

First, let’s focus on the eyes.  You’ll need to apply a teal or lighter blue eyeshadow base on your lids to begin.  Next, take a darker blue and apply it to your brow bone to give your eyes some more depth.  Now, pick a bright purple and apply this to your lower lash line and up to the outer corner of your lid.  Make sure you blend!  You can even add some glitter and shimmer to make your eyes pop even more.

Next comes the fun part.  You’ll need a pair of classic fish net tights to create the “mermaid scale” effect on your skin!  Take your pair of leggings and slide them over your head (try not to mess up your eyeshadow!).  Take a brush covered in purple eyeshadow and dab the brush over the tights on your cheek bone.  You can even incorporate some pinks and blues into your scales as well.  After you’re finished, I suggest taking scissors and cutting off the tights to make sure you don’t smear your product!  Then, you’re finished! 🙂

What are you going to be this Halloween?  Let me know in the comment section below (I need ideas… Haha!).

The biggest shift in seasons happens between summer and fall. The clothing gets heavier, colors get darker, and the feel of the season is moodier. Your makeup reflects these changes! Here are a few ways to update your look from summer dew to autumn hues and the products to help you do so.

  1. Copper orange: Reds and oranges are fall’s version of neutrals. Copper is the perfect in-between color. Try some warm hues on your eyelids with Urban Decay’s “Naked” Heat pallet. I love these tones, they give you a smoldering stare.
  2. Dark red: Deep red is fall’s staple color. There’s always the classic red lip color, but there is also another great way to wear shades of red, and that is on your cheeks! Swipe some rosy red cheek stain across your cheeks for color that will last all day long. The color is glamorous and just dramatic enough.
  3. Earthy brown: Brown tones may sound boring, but they can add major drama to your look. Smudge some brown under your eyes for a fall smoky eye, or use brown gel liner on your top lid for a more natural look.
  4. Pearly shimmer: Today’s makeup looks are all about the glow. Use a pearly metallic highlighter to accentuate your natural radiance.

How do you plan to shift your makeup looks this season?

3 Steps to Pulling Off Black Lipstick

Black lipstick is something that I never dared to try and pull off.  I always thought it was too risky and too dark for my personality!  But turns out, it’s a growing trend that I’ve seen anyone from celebrities to some of my closest friends start to try out.  If you’re easing into the black lipstick world, here are 3 steps to pull it off!

  1. First, you’ll need to focus on your eyes. Chelsea Crockett - Shay Mitchell If you try and wear black lipstick when your eye makeup is light, your lips will overpower your whole look.  Find an eyeshadow palette that doesn’t necessary have just black in it, but darker shades that will compliment dark lips, as well.  This is crucial!  Try a different blend of darker shades on your eyelids and lower lash line like Shay Mitchell did on the right.  She totally rocks this look!
  2. Next comes the contour.  Try out a darker contour that really defines your cheek bones and jawline.  Make sure you have a lighter highlight to add above the contour line as well.  This will create the illusion that your contour is darker than it is.  That being said, don’t forget to blend! 🙂
  3. Lastly, finish off some final touches such as eyebrows and obviously, lips!  The key to this look is making everything a little darker than usual.  Unfortunately, black lipstick doesn’t work too well with the natural look, so define and darken up those brows!

If you still don’t think you can pull it off, try out these three steps for yourself.  It’s a fun look to mix things up a bit every once in a while!

With summer in full swing, we can all expect a new wave of trends coming in!  Whether those be shoe trends, shirt trends, makeup trends, etc., you’ll have to get up-to-date with what trends will be “in” this season.  Here are a few makeup trends to look out for in summer 2017 so you can have the trendiest look in town!

  • Sunset eyes.  Soft reds, oranges, and yellows make for the perfect sunset eyeshadow look! Chelsea Crockett - Sunset Eyeshadow There are tons of different tutorials and ways to achieve this look.  You can go above and beyond or do a simple blended look!
  • Clean/no makeup look.  You can never go wrong with the natural look, especially this summer!  Light blush, thin eyeliner, nude lips, etc. are all something to try out this season.
  • Blue.  Too much blue can sometimes be too over-the-top, but it’s “in” this summer.  Light blue eyeshadow or even blue lips can make your makeup pop!
  • Soft colors/pastels.  I’ve always been a fan of pastels, and this summer they’re going to be super popular.  This could include pastel cheeks, lips, eyes, anything!
  • White accents.  White accented eyes are the perfect way to make your eyes pop.  Adding lighter shades around the inner corners of your eyes and your waterline will make your eyes appear bigger and brighter.

Which trendy makeup look are you going to try out this summer?  Let me know in the comment section below!  I’m hoping to try them all out myself! 🙂

Eye makeup is one of my favorite things to experiment with.  You can do so many different color combinations and looks!  Looking back at my old videos and pictures, I’ve definitely gotten better at knowing how to do my eye makeup the best way to compliment the rest of my makeup.  Here are some eye makeup do’s and don’ts that I wish I would’ve known when I first started wearing makeup!

  • DO blend your eye shadow. Chelsea Crockett - Eye Makeup This will make it look much more natural and a lot less choppy.  If you get the right brush, blending is super easy!
  • DON’T add too much highlighter to your face.  This is important especially if your eye makeup is dark.  You want to make sure your makeup is all balanced out!
  • DO copy a look that you like.  If you see a celeb’s makeup that you love, it’s much easier to create a look on yourself when you have something to go off of.
  • DON’T go crazy on the eyeliner.  There are so many other ways to make your eyes pop.  You don’t have to rely heavily on your eyeliner to do so!  The occasional cat-eye is always good, but find other ways that accent and darken your eyes.
  • DO find the colors that compliment you.  If you’re blonde haired and blue eyed, it might not be the best idea to go with dark colors like black and grey.  Use soft browns and natural colors to make your eyes pop but not be too overboard!

I hope these help you master your eye makeup skills!

When I first started out using makeup, I didn’t really have a clue what I was doing!  But over the years, I’d like to think I’ve gotten pretty comfortable with creating all the different beauty and makeup trends on my own skin.  Eyeshadow trends can sometimes be the hardest to pull off without knowing where to put each shade.  Chelsea Crockett - Eye MakeupThis guide helped me master eyeshadow and know the best way to accent my eyes!

  • Brow bone/Highlight.  As far as your brow bone goes, focus on highlighting it.  This will give your eyes the pop they need!
  • Crease.  To add some dimension to your eyes, add a darker shade to your crease.  Once again, this will make them pop!
  • Lid.  This is where your base color will go.  I suggest a neutral shade that will be a good foundation for your other darker tones!
  • Outer V.  If you’re a fan of the “cat eye” eyeliner look, then this part of your lid will practically be covered anyways.  But if you’re not big on eyeliner, then apply a darker shade to your outer v.  If you want a softer look, blend with a blending brush for a less sharp effect.
  • Lower Lash Line.  Once again, if you’re an eyeliner type of girl, then this part of your eye will most likely already be covered!  But if you want a little more definition, add a darker, neutral shadow to your lash line.
  • Tear duct.  To add a little glow to your eyes, apply a shimmery or light colored eyeshadow.  This will make your eyes sparkle!

I hope this helps you just as much as it helped me!

This spring, peach pastel makeup is making waves! Shades inspired by fruit are going to be majorly popular in early 2017. Peach is trending right now because it is an easy shade to wear and is flattering on everyone! Here are a few of my favorite peach inspired pastel looks this spring.

  1. Eyeshadow: Peach eyeshadow is a sweet and subtle look. The light shades are fresh and playful.
  2. Blush: Peach blush adds a gorgeous glow to your face and adds warmth and friendliness to your skin!
  3. Lips: A peach lip color is a great sweet and sassy look. It is fun and feminine!

One thing to avoid when wearing peach shades is an orangey-peach color. Stay in the pink family. Choosing a more orange tone with red undertones can make your skin look sunburnt and irritated!

New Year’s Eve is the one holiday you can go above and beyond with your makeup.  You can rock as much sparkle and glitter as you want since you’ll be ringing in the new year all night long!  In case you wanted to try something new this holiday, here are 3 makeup looks that are perfect for the night ahead!

Gold – If you want your look to focus more on gold tones, try out a look like the one on the right!  Chelsea Crockett - NYE MakeupDoing a smoky eye with brown shades will create the perfect base to add some gold sparkle.  Fill in your eyebrows and add a maroon lip to seal the deal!

Silver – If your outfit calls for a silver makeup look, focus on black and grey tones.  Since theses shades are darker, I suggest using black only on the outer parts of your lid.  You don’t want to use too many dark shades especially if you normally don’t wear a lot of eyeshadow.  Add a shimmer silver shade over your base.  (You can even add some blue tones to compliment the grey!)

Nude – Maybe you’re not into all of the sparkle and glitter and want to keep it a little simpler.  Pick a couple eye shadows that are more matte rather than shimmer.  You can do a light smoky eye paired with a matte lipstick!  Keep it simple but still complimenting your outfit.

I hope this completes your look for this New Year’s Eve!

Simple Halloween Makeup 2016

Halloween is the only time of the year that you can play dress up no matter how old you are!  I always love taking it to the next level and going all out with my Halloween makeup.  There are hundreds of different looks you can try, but I wanted to pick some of the simpler ones to share with you all!  Makeup might not be your best talent, so here are some easy-to-do tutorials!

Zombie makeup is always super easy to pull off.  Last year, I had to work an event at my school and had to dress up as a zombie!  I went all out and put makeup all over my body (as you can see in the picture above)! Chelsea Crockett - Rainbow Filter Makeup For this look, I used a lighter foundation for my face to make it look pale.  I then took black and purple eyeshadow to give my eyes and cheeks a hollowed look. Depending on how much you want to add, apply different shades of red paint to your face, arms, etc. for fake blood!  Most Halloween stores will even sell paint for this exact use!

Being a Snapchat filter is such a fun and trendy way to show off your makeup skills this year!  The two easiest looks to try out are the rainbow and deer filters!  Once again, Halloween stores will sell face paint that’s made just for this purpose.  Painting on the filter like the picture on the left isn’t hard to do!  As for the deer filter, simply using a contour kit, black eyeliner, and concealer will seal the deal.  Just google it and a picture will show up for you to go off of!

What are you being for Halloween this year?  Let me know in the comment section below!

Happy Halloween! – Chels

As you all know, I’m a makeup fanatic. I love playing around with different products to see what looks best on me. My favorite part about putting on makeup is doing my eyes. There are so many ways to switch up your look just based off your eyeshadow, eyeliner, etc. Here are three of my favorite palettes that I use every day!

My number one go-to brand of palettes is Urban Decay. Their Naked Palettes are amazing and filled with a variety of different shades. As of now, they’ve came out with four different palettes. The fourth one, and most recent, is called the Naked Smoky Palette. Chelsea Crockett - Tarte PaletteIt’s probably my favorite out of the four! It has tons of different dark and light complimentary shades that create the perfect smoky eye in a variety of different combinations.

Another brand of palettes I’ve recently fallen in love with are the Tarte palettes. My favorite one is the product on the right. It’s called the Tartelette in Bloom Clay Palette. All of the nudes and browns are perfect for a natural summer look! The palette is $45 which may seem expensive at first, but it’s worth it!

Two Faced is another good brand to check out! Their Chocolate Bar Eye Shadow Collection not only has a great variety of colors but even smells like chocolate… WHAT? As soon as you open it, you’ll smell the sweet chocolatey aroma! Each eyeshadow is even made with cocoa powder. How cool is that?

Let me know which is your favorite!

Make the Most of Your Abandoned Eyeshadow

We all have a favorite eyeshadow shade. You know, that one that always seems to run out, while all the other colors in the palette are only slightly used. I got tired of having all sorts of eyeshadow palettes sitting around that were only slightly used, because all I was using was shades I knew and trusted! If you want to know how to wear the un-used, possibly obscure colors in your palettes, read on!

  1. Pink: Pink may seem like an awkward color for eyeshadow, and may give you “Barbie” vibes, but don’t let that stop you from using it! Gently dust some onto your eyelids, especially if it is a shimmery, light color! Bring the color across your lid down to the corner of the eye, and subdue it with other shadow shades like nude and champagne to tone it down.how-to-use-the-abandoned-colors-in-your-go-to-eye-shadow-palette-1656478-1455328442.640x0c
  2. Blue: This is a color that makes a stunning smoky eye, actually. Especially if it is slightly metallic! If a smoky eye isn’t your thing, use a small brush to run a thin line of shadow along your lower lash line for a pop of color.
  3. Purple: If you are unsure on how to wear that purple eyeshadow in your drawer, try the technique that I mentioned above in blue. Line your bottom lash line with the purple for a subtle color pop. You can even make a cat eye look with it!
  4. Black: Black can be an intimidating shade. Too much and you can start to look moody and dark! For a subtle look, use a fluffy powder shadow brush to dust a V shape along the outer corner of your eyes and halfway to the eye bone. This creates great definition.

Don’t let those abandoned eyeshadow colors go to waste! Get creative with them! You may find a new favorite shade in the process.

Eyeshadow can be a pretty intimidating. You don’t want to put it on two dark, you don’t want to put it on so light that you cannot tell you’re even wearing any, and you don’t want to fail at shading that smoky eye just right! Here are a few tips from the eyeshadow pros to help my eyeshadow-challenged ladies.

  1. Know your eye shape: Learning how to shade eyeshadow is so much easier when you know your eye shape. It helps you figure out what color goes where!
  2. Know your eyeshadow brushes: Know your tools! There are brushes that are better for blending, ones that are more for base colors, and many more! Know what they are and how to use them.5489e46db6858_-_rbk-applying-eyeshadow-0911-msc
  3. Know your preferred formula: There are three main eyeshadow formulas: cream, loose, and pressed. Cream eyeshadows work best as a base layer color for powder eyeshadow, loose eyeshadows are best if you want a pigmented color, and pressed is the most common type of eyeshadow because they blend easily and aren’t that messy.
  4. Priming is important!: Using eyeshadow primer is super important. It keeps it from creasing or wearing off as the day goes on. It will also make your eyeshadow colors look brighter!

Eyeshadow is so much fun to experiment with! Hopefully these tips help you make the most of your makeup.

Eyeshadow is usually a really important part of my makeup routine. How I do my eyeshadow depends on my outfit, my day’s events, and even my mood sometimes! The kind of eyeshadow you’re using is equally as important. You want your shadow to be opaque so that it shows up, you want it to be long lasting so it doesn’t wear off, and you want the palette to last you a while so you don’t feel like you are spending a ton of money because you keep running out. Another important factor to me is the shades offered in the palette. Every makeup lover needs a good neutral palate in their possession. Neutrals go with everything and are a good “every day” look. Here are my favorite neutral eye palettes!

  1. Urban Decay: I love the Urban Decay “Nakes” palettes. They are a little pricey, but they last foreevvvverrr. I’ve had mine for 2 years and it’s still going strong. There are 3 “Naked” palettes, and each has 12 natural shades that range from matte to shimmer and even glitter shades! They also offer palettes that are a little smaller and offer your basic neutral shades.eye
  2. Tarte: I recently got the “Tartelette In Bloom Clay Eyeshadow Palette” from Tarte and I am obsessed! It offers 12 shades, 9 mattes and 3 lusters. What is so great about this palette is that the shadows are made with an Amazonian clay formula that offers great pigment, blendability, and long-lasting color.
  3. Too Faced: Too Faced’s Natural Eye Neutral Eye Shadow Collection is also a great neutral choice. It offers your 3 most basic shades in larger amounts because you use them more often, which I think is genius, and has 9 other great neutral shades.

There are so many great neutral palettes, but these 3 are my favs!

One of the most annoying things is finding an old, unused eye shadow that’s too old to put to use!  Or you could have a similar situation to mine… I have some eye shadow palettes that I use only one or two colors out of it and the rest just sit and never get used.  I recently found a “do it yourself” way to turn dry eye powder into a rich creamy shade.  I started looking at my older palettes and figured I could combine some of the colors into a cream that would be the perfect shade!Chelsea Crockett - Creamy Eye Shadow

All you have to do is grab a pretty shadow or a couple colors that would look good blended together.  After you’ve chosen your shades, grab a lotion or some Vaseline (for added sparkle…use a lotion with a shimmer to it).  Next, get a dry small container and a knife or toothpick.  Scrape some eye shadow into the bowl (mixing colors if you’d like!). Using a Q-tip, mix some lotion or Vaseline with the powder.  Remember…less is more at first.  You can always add more.  Continue to mix until all clumps are gone until you get the desired consistency you’d like.

Try applying the color to the back of your hand to make sure it blends well onto your skin.  Let me know if you try this and have any tips for me!

Do you have any eye shadow that you just don’t use? I have a few colors that I never wear because they don’t go with my eyes and skin shade. I don’t like to let anything go to waste, so I found a way to make my unwanted eye shadow into nail polish! Or, if you totally love a certain color of eye shadow but have never found that color in a nail polish, then you can make your own polish! Here is how it’s done:

  1. Break up the eye shadow into a powder and then pour it into a disposable bowl.chelsea crockett nail polish diy
  2. Pour clear nail polish into the bowl with the eye shadow in it, and stir the mixture around with a q-tip.
  3. Take a nail polish brush and use it to paint your nails! You now have your very own custom-made color! And, you got it at a fraction of a price or store bought nail polish.

This DIY is quick and easy, and it is made with items you already have at home! Don’t waste that unwanted eye shadow! Put it to good use!
