5 Ways You Can Hear God’s Voice

God’s voice is hard to hear. It’s not a clear, loud voice that tells you exactly what you need to hear exactly when you need to hear it. It can be both frustrating and disappointing when you expect to hear from God and can’t seem to find him in the midst of your circumstances.

I realized I get let down when I put high expectations on God to give me answers as soon as I ask for them. I forget that God is always in perfect timing and it’s not my place to tell him when and when not to act in my life.

After diving deeper into God’s word, I realized there are so many ways you can hear God’s voice. Instead of sitting around waiting for God to speak to you, look closely at what the Bible says about hearing God’s voice, even if you’re not really hearing it at all.

God’s Word

Have you ever read a verse that described your exact situation or circumstance at the exact time you needed to hear it? These are some of the sweetest moments because we can see, on paper, God speaking to us through his word.  If you think it’s coincidental when you read something spot-on, it’s usually God’s doing. 🙂

His Still Small Voice

I’ve always heard of people hearing God’s still small voice but I never really knew how to listen for it. Have you ever taken the time to simply sit and dwell in the presence of God? Maybe you need to pray for open ears and an open heart to hear him speaking to you. Sometimes we have random thoughts and think, “what did that mean?” or “why would I even think that in the first place?” This is God speaking to you! Don’t overlook it.

Friends and Family

The good thing about having relationships with godly, wise people is that they can give you direction and guidance when you can’t seem to find it yourself. God uses people here on earth to be his messenger even when they don’t know he’s using them. Go to these people for wisdom and advice when you’re lacking guidance.

His Creation

Have you ever looked around and been amazed by God’s creations all around you? Sometimes God sends us subtle messages in the sky, in the trees, through the birds. Sometimes something will remind you that everything’s going to be okay, even if that’s as simple as a sunny day or a bird flying above you.

Peace

Philippians 4:7 says, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

In those moments when you’re stressed, anxious, or afraid, pray to God for his overwhelming peace. In the chaos of it all, God will give you a peace that calms you and fills you with comfort and security. It’s a peace that surrounds you so strongly that you can know whole-heartedly it’s from the Lord.

At the end of the day, don’t feel discouraged when you can’t hear God’s voice when you’ve been praying for it for so long. He could already be speaking to you, you just have to look for it in the not-so-obvious places!

You Are Who You Surround Yourself With

Do you ever hang out with someone and eventually find yourself talking and acting like they do?

It could be in the simplest ways like catching onto their unique phrases or picking up on certain mannerisms.  Regardless, in the littlest ways we start to become the people we surround ourselves with.

In high school, when I would hang out with girls that gossiped and indulged themselves in drama, I started to do the same. I’d catch myself participating in conversations I had no business participating in.

Throughout my life, I’d have friends that constantly brought me down and continuously brought negativity to every situation. I noticed that bad moods are contagious, and moodiness can have a domino effect.

God encourages his followers to pick their “teammates” wisely. Choose the people who are going to make you enjoy life and spur you on to be a better follower of Christ.

This verse puts it perfectly.

Proverbs 13:20 says, “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.”

I know I’m not the only one who has experienced this firsthand. When we surround ourselves with those who are wise and have a good head on their shoulders, we are influenced for the better. When we surround ourselves with those who’re foolish, we are more likely to stumble and fall off our path.

Booker T. Washington said it best: “Associate yourself with people of good quality, for it is better to be alone than in bad company.”

God didn’t create us to be alone. He wants us to have fellowship with other believers more than anything! When you find people that click with you and encourage you to be a better person, that’s when you know you’ve found good people to surround yourself with.

You should have a good balance of people around you who are a positive influence on you and people who you can be a positive influence on them. As much as we want to be around people who make us a better person, we should also be that person for others who need a good influence!

Lastly, take a look at Hebrews 10:24. It says, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds…”

Everyone in your group of friends should be responsible for spurring one another on. God tells us to do it, and encourages us to be the change we want to see in others. Motivate each other toward love and doing good things for others. It takes one person to make a difference, and the rest will soon follow!

Choose your team carefully. Surround yourself with people that reflect who you want to be and how you want to feel. Surround yourself with people who have contagious positivity and encouragement.

Surround yourself with people that make you fall in love with God even more. These are the people that are going to help YOU become a better person in all areas of your life.

During this time of year, I always take a moment to think about the things I’m thankful for. I try to practice this often throughout the year, but the month of Thanksgiving really gets me thinking about all the things, especially people, God has put in my life!

When you think about Thanksgiving, what do you think of?  Do you think of all the food you get to eat?  Or maybe the Macy’s Day Parade you get to watch with your family?  More importantly, we should use this holiday to genuinely reflect on all that we’re thankful for.  And this year, why don’t we actually act on it? I have decided to challenge myself this month. I want to spend some time writing thank you notes to the people in my life that I’m grateful for. I want to challenge you to do the same thing!

It may be your parents, your grandparents, your teacher, your Pastor, or a special friend that you would like to thank! Join me this month and take a little extra time to write a note that tells someone just how much they mean to you.  You may think it’s cheesy, but it’ll mean more to them than you know!

I think this little Thanksgiving project will bless you just as much as it blesses the receiver of your letter! I certainly hope to bless those that I’m thankful for!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

When Mother’s Day was just around the corner, I wrote a blog post about different, unique ways you could spend that special day with your mom!  But since we’re finally in the month of Father’s Day, I thought I’d come up with a few ideas that are more centered around dads but still fun for your whole family!

  • If your dad is the typical dad that’s always down to golf, take him golfing for the day!  Chelsea Crockett - Baseball GameYou can go play a full round or even just hit up the driving range for a couple hours.  If you’re not a golfer, maybe even try taking him mini golfing.  It’s a great way to bond over something he likes to do!
  • Instead of going out to eat to celebrate, offer to help your dad grill a big dinner for your whole family!  That way, you can learn how to grill and spend time with your dad at the same time.  Sometimes just offering a helping hand can make his day!
  • Sit your dad down a week or so before Father’s Day and ask him what his ideal day would be, then make it happen!  Maybe he wants to go to a baseball game or fishing on the lake.  Whatever it is, make it happen since it’s his special day!
  • Bring out the little kid in him!  He may not say it, but it might just make his day to go camping, go-karting, etc.  Get out and be adventurous!

Which idea are you going to treat your dad to this year?  Share with me in the comments below!  Maybe my dad and I are doing the same!

Happy Father’s Day! – Chelsea

Well this is it… You’re finally at the home stretch.  As a freshman in high school, I never thought I would’ve actually made it to senior year with only a couple months till the next chapter of my life.  It’s both scary and exciting, but I assure you, there are bigger and better things right around the corner!  I wanted to share with you a few things I wish I would’ve known as a senior about to leave high school for good.

  • Hang out with your family more than you normally do. Chelsea Crockett - High School If you’re planning on going away to college, soak up all the family time you can get.  Ask your mom to go shopping with you or take your little sister out to lunch!
  • Appreciate your teachers, whether you want to or not.  They got you to where you are today!  Don’t hesitate to thank them by shooting them a heartfelt email.
  • Don’t let senioritis take its toll.  Senioritis is real, lemme tell ya, but I urge you to stay on top of your grades and make your last couple of months count!
  • Go to every sports game.  Participate in every student section.  Some of my best high school memories happened while I cheered on my school’s team with all of my best friends.
  • Don’t put your life on hold because of homework and studying.  With only a couple months of high school left, keep good grades but don’t miss out on life because of school.  Go to dinner with your friends or go for a night drive in the middle of the week with your boyfriend!  Make all the memories you can!

Make the most out of however long you have left in high school!

Spring break is often the time for college kids to go on a trip with their friends or get some time away from school to relax and spend time with family.  If you’re staying home or at school for spring break, you don’t have to miss out on all the fun!  Here are five ideas for a spring break “staycation!”

  • Take a day to binge watch that Netflix series you’ve been wanting to watch.  Chelsea Crockett - Gossip GirlClear your schedule for the day, make some snacks, lay in bed, and simply relax!
  • Take a day trip to a good hiking spot or a big city.  This is an inexpensive way to get a mini vacation in your break without having to go very far!  Most of the time you can discover hidden spots that make for the best adventures.
  • Set apart a day on the weekend where you and the rest of your family are free.  Then, plan out a whole day to spend time with each other and do fun things around your city!
  • Since you’re saving money by not going on any spring break festivities, treat yourself to a shopping spree!  I don’t mean you have to drain your bank account, but you can treat yourself by splurging a little at the mall.
  • Catch up with your high school friends.  If you live away at college, you might not get the chance to see old friends as much.  Send out a group text and plan a fun day for the crew!

What other ideas do you have to add to the list?  Let me know in the comment section below! 🙂

  2. For others to see God’s love through your family: “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16. Pray that your family’s example would point others toward God.FullSizeRender (83)

If we compare dating nowadays to how it used to be, there are too many differences to count.  In our society, “talking” is the new dating.  Even marriage rates have dramatically decreased since decades ago!  There are so many dating pointers we could learn from couples that have been together for years.  Here are some old fashioned dating tips that should be put into action today!

  • Put down the phone!  That might sound lChelsea Crockett - Date Listike something your mom tells you but trust me, it’s so refreshing!  Putting your phone down during dinner with your boyfriend or girlfriend is so much nicer than watching each other stare at your screens.
  • Talk face to face.  Talking out your problems in person instead of over the phone or through text solves things much easier.  Technology is great, but being able to talk about touchy subjects face to face will make you much more comfortable in your relationship.
  • Go on real dates.  This doesn’t have to be every weekend!  Picking a night once a month or even a couple nights is a good way to keep your relationship fun and a priority!  You can even make a list like the one on the right.
  • Meet each other’s parents.  Meeting the fam is a good way to show you’re serious about each other!  It also shows your polite and committed to your relationship.
  • Commit, commit, commit.  I can’t stress this enough!  If you’re in a relationship with someone, devote yourself to them and only them.

If you follow these steps, they might help you better your relationship and make it last much longer!

I’ve always loved a good pool party. Nothing says “summer” like a pool full of family or friends! If you have a pool and you are wanting to throw a killer pool party, there are a few essentials to make the experience as easy and as memorable as possible! Your guests won’t want to leave!

  1. Fun pool floaties: I am sure you have seen photos of your favorite celebs floating around in pools on big swan or flamingo floaties. Well, bring those inflatables to your pool! There are tons of fun options out there, from giant inflatable ice cream sandwiches to flamingos and swans and beyond.2011-03-15-double-rainbow-pancakes-skewers-500
  2. Twinkly lights: Run twinkly Christmas lights around your deck or pool area. That way at night you can flip on the lights and have a cool whimsical vibe.
  3. A Bluetooth speaker: This is definitely an essential in my book! I love having tunes playing when I am swimming with friends. It sets a fun, carefree mood. Having a Bluetooth speaker allows you to be able to have your phone anywhere and still play music since it doesn’t have to plug into the speaker.
  4. Fun beverages: I’m talking pink lemonade, root beer, Kool Aid, the works! Have a few pitchers of cool drinks made so that people can refresh in the tastiest way possible.
  5. Fresh fruit: My favorite poolside snack is a big slice of watermelon. It is cool and refreshing which makes it the perfect summertime snack! Have some fresh fruit sliced and ready to go so your friends can munch away.

Pool parties are one of the best things about summer, wouldn’t you agree?

Transitions can be tough. I’m currently going through one myself. It’s a challenging period of change and growth. I sometimes find myself lost and unable to deal with everything going on. Between college searching, thinking about being away from my friends and family, and balancing a social life and YouTube, life can be overwhelming! While transitions are scary, they are ultimately a blessing in disguise.Chelsea Crockett- trusting God

Transitions are a time to better understand yourself. When faced with decisions that seem impossible to make, you have to weigh your pros and cons. Things that you thought were your first priority may seem little. Making big life decisions and transitioning to my college years has really made me realize who and what are important.

Trusting in God has been my saving grace. Praying to Him and knowing he’s got a plan for me keeps be hopeful for the future. Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

TRUST IN HIM

Emotions are a crazy thing. One moment you’re happy, the next moment you’re sad; one second you’re loving life, the next you’re angry at the world. What is going on?! Learning how to balance emotions is tricky, but it can be done. Once you’ve learned how to control the way you feel, life will be a much happier place!Chelsea Crockett- worry

  1. When I am feeling stressed, upset, or unappreciated I always turn to my Bible. It reassures me that I am loved, taken care of, and that God will take care of anything that is worrying me.
  2. Make a list of everything you are thankful for. Every time you are sad or angry, read the list. You will realize how much you should be grateful for.
  3. Surround yourself with people that lift you up! If you notice a friend that is always negative or putting you down, it’s time to drop them. If they aren’t doing anything to benefit your life, it’s time to move on.
  4. Go for a run! Running releases endorphins, which, in the simple sense, makes your brain happy.
  5. Take time for yourself. I understand that school, work, sports, family, and friends can be a lot to handle at once, but it’s important to take time to breathe. Set aside 30 minutes to 1 hour a day to watch your favorite show, do a DIY project, or just hangout!

Life is good, so let’s spend it happily!

AH INSIDERS!! BeautyCon LA was absolutely dreamy and I can’t wait to tell you about it! I was so excited to get to hug so many of you in person!! The smiles I saw made what I do so worth it!

The LA weekend started off with the Teen Vogue and Neutrogena party with a bunch of my beauty babes. We live all over the U.S., so getting to hang out with some of my fav YouTube friends is always a blast! I love soaking in every moment. The next morning I headed over to the AwesomenessTV Studios to discuss some secret projects *wink, wink*! Once the meetings were over, I got some time to soak in the Santa Monica sun with Lexi, Ana, Rachel, and my family! Now that the day was over, I was pretty excited to get to bed after a long day (who doesn’t love a nice and fluffy hotel bed?). Let’s just say sleeping was a little difficult with how excited I was. Next stop? BEAUTYCON!Chelsea Crockett- BeautyCon LA

Pulling up to BeautyCon gave me a rush of excitement! I couldn’t wait to get to my meet and greet to see you all. When I saw how many of you were lined up I couldn’t believe my eyes! You guys are incredible!! I wish I could’ve meet and talked to each and every one of you! Thank you for being the high light of my day! I also had a panel later in the day with Barbie! It was so fun to meet new faces, including Madison Pettis (like whaaaat?!), and I love hearing all the amazing girls talk about their journey! I was excited when my website got brought up at the panel. My team and I put so much work in it, which was so rewarding to talk about!

I could talk about my BeautyCon LA experience forever! If I had to sum up the weekend in two words it would be: THANK YOU! Thank you for watching my videos, thank you for lifting me up, and thank you for putting a smile on my face. I do it all for YOU! I love my Insiders and hope to see you next time I attend BeautyCon!

XOXO,

It’s almost 2015 which means it’s time to think about what you want to leave behind in 2014.  Time to reflect and rethink things you like and dislike about your Chelsea Crockett - New Years Quotelife.  Time to make resolutions to change your life for the better!  Perhaps you need to switch up your eating and exercising habits.  Or maybe even make new friends?  Whatever you’re thinking, it’s time to set goals and objectives for the new year!

New Year’s resolutions don’t always mean setting them solely for ourselves. As teens, we’re becoming more independent from our families and relying on friends more often.  Do we need to spend more time with our friends or family to make them feel important?  What could we change in our lives to make those people feel special?

Probably the most popular resolution we should consider making would be to eat healthy and exercise!  Whether you’re thin or overweight, it’s important to get the necessary amount of activity to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  It’s recommended for the average high school student to get 60 minutes of physical activity per day (if you can even find 60!). Simply setting a goal of 30 minutes, five days a week would be a start!

Last but not least would be to look at our effort and ability in school.  If we struggle in a certain area, how about working to change that B to an A? Studying more, staying organized, getting more sleep… Whatever your resolution is, I would love to hear about it!  Let me know below and maybe I’ll join you!

Happy New Year! – Chels
