How to Create a Good Habit

Habits don’t always have to be bad. Some habits that we make such as working out every day or reading our bibles daily can help us grow physically and/or mentally. There’s ways to make something you do turn into a habit such as eating healthy or going to bed early. Here’s how!

Scientifically, habits are formed within 21 days. Chelsea Crockett - Good Habit ListThat means if you repeat something consistently for exactly 3 weeks, your mind will form the action into a habit.  That being said, you can also break a habit in 21 days such as biting your nails or eating certain junk food every day after school!  Here’s a step-by-step list of how you can achieve this:

  1. Make a list of which habits you want to make or which habits you want to break.
  2. Motivate yourself!  Write down the reasons for why you’re making that habit.  If your habit is to go to sleep earlier every night, write down why you want to do so!  This will remind you to stick to it.
  3. Make a countdown.  If you can make it to 21 days, then you’re on the right track!  After 3 weeks, you shouldn’t even have to think about it.  It should just come naturally!
  4. Come up with a reward to give yourself after 21 days.  You made it!  (You can even go off the picture to the right to make your own list!)

Think of something you want to turn into a good habit and do it.  With a little motivation, it’s easier than you think!

How to Get Things Done Even When you Really Don’t Want to

To me, one of the worst feelings is knowing I have a ton of stuff to do but not wanting to do a single bit of it. You know the feeling, I’m sure. It is summer, you are laying on the couch chilling, but your to-do list is running through your head and you are starting to get anxious about everything you have to get done. You would much rather watch one more episode of Gilmore Girls than pick up your summer homework or clean your house like your mom asked you to. We all want to be productive, but sometimes we lack the motivation. Here are 4 ways to get things done when you flat out don’t want to.

  1. Keep the goal in mind: if you just remember why it is important that you get your task done, and put things into perspective, it can help you stay motivated to start and finish.84514
  2. Start with the worst: If you start with your least favorite task first, then the rest of the list won’t seem so bad! If you really hate running errands or cleaning bathrooms or doing homework, then do those first thing, and then you will feel relieved and motivated to power through the rest of your to-dos.
  3. Change your perspective: Rather than grumbling about how much you hate this and would rather be doing other things, give yourself a positive pep talk. Next time you are tempted to complain about a task and put it off, try and think to yourself that you can do it, and if you get it done now you will have time to do things you like later.
  4. Bribe yourself: Our brains are wired to seek reward. So, next time you have a to-do list a mile long, tell yourself, for example, that you will work on it for an hour and a half, then you can have a break and watch one episode of your favorite show. Then you will go back to your list, then rest. Taking breaks will keep you productive and motivated!

Now that you have these tips, your to-do list doesn’t stand a chance!

I always see posts on Twitter and Instagram about “goals.” I see “relationship goals” or “friendship goals” or I’ve even seen “lunch goals.” Well, these things are all fine and dandy, but to me, I’d rather have “life goals,” or things I want to do or accomplish in my life. Here is a list of goals that should make everyone’s list of goals.

  1. Get more sleep. (Can I get an amen?)f7f065ec6e42618dff61c645c541b756
  2. Read more
  3. Exercise more
  4. Drink more water
  5. Be more organized
  6. Have more patience
  7. Explore as much as possible
  8. Relax more
  9. Do more for others
  10. Trust that God has a reason for everything
  11. Think before you speak
  12. Pray more
  13. Be a good influence on others

Everyone should make a list of things that they strive for in life and things that they want to achieve or do more of. This makes the goals more attainable, and it gives you motivation to reach them! Having goals is a way to better yourself and to even be a motivation to those around you.

Get after your goals!

School can be such a drag. Between juggling homework, practices, and a job, life can get pretty tough and oftentimes extremely tiring. Staying motivated becomes harder and harder and procrastination usually starts to set in! For those of you who find yourself slacking and out of energy, here is a little guide I put together to help you out :)!

First things first, make sure you have the basics down. Get enough sleep (8 hours), eat healthy, exercise… These are all things that will give you a little more energy to get through the day. Apart from the simple things, be sure to reward yourself.Chelsea Crockett - Rewarding Yourself Working and getting things done is 10x harder if you don’t have anything to look forward to. Goal-setting is a perfect way to organize your tasks. If you complete a goal, reward yourself! Whether it’s with a piece of chocolate or a night out with your friends, it’ll help push you to checking off your goal!

The next step is probably the most important. As teenagers, we have SO many distractions… phones, friends, TV, etc. Get rid of them for a little! Trying to do everything at once isn’t possible. If you try, you’ll overwork yourself which leads to discouragement.

Have a good mindset and stay positive! – Chels

Saving money can be one tough ordeal!  Going to the mall or out to dinner can be deadly for your bank account.  You plan on buying one shirt and end up with three!  Of course it’s easy to spend your money, but is it really worth it?  There are plenty of painless ways to save money that will make your wallet smile!

  • Do you like to work out?  Use it as a goal to save money!  Every time you complete a work out, put a dollar in a jar.  By the end of the year, you should have a couple hundred dollars saved up.
  • Skip the appetizer or dessert.  Some restaurants charge around $10 for one dish!  If you do this often, you’ll be saving up money in no time.
  • Bring a set amount of money with you wherever you go!  If you know you only want to spend $50, but know that you get tempted easily, only bring $50 to the mall with you!  This way, you won’t spend all your money in one day.
  • Think before you buy!  If you want something that is a little more expensive, don’t buy it right away!  Continue shopping or go home and buy it the next day if youChelsea Crockett- money really want it.  Impulse buys can drain the bank.
  • Borrowing is the way to go!  Instead of buying an outfit that you will wear one night, try borrowing an outfit from one of your friends.

Although saving money may be tough, it’ll be worth it in the end!  Happy saving!

Love,

Chelsea
