Jealousy is Stealing Your Joy

No matter where I am in life, what I am doing or how I am doing it, there always seems to be someone doing it bigger and better. No matter how many positive things I have going for me, somehow the negative thoughts seep in.

I find myself needing to take “social media breaks” every once in a while to detox my mind and give myself fresh perspective. It seems like everywhere you look, there is someone skinnier, prettier, more popular, with a better house, better clothes, and a happier smile. Comparing your work, your life, and whatever else will only make you miserable. Why? Because when you compare yourself to others, you aren’t seeing all the stuff going on in the background. You are only seeing the positive surface-level information that they are allowing everyone to see. Comparing yourself to someone else’s “best” is unfair.

It’s not just on social media that we can start to allow jealousy to slowly seep into our hearts. Your coworker may be excelling and getting promoted faster than you are. The friends you grew up may be getting engaged or married. When I see people that started their YouTube channels around the same time I did gaining more followers or opportunities than me, it is hard not to let jealousy paralyze my thinking. If I’m not careful, comparing myself to them can strip me of my contentment with who I am and what I am good at. Jealousy steals joy.

It is painfully true. Jealousy gives you a sick feeling in your stomach and an satisfaction with all that God has given you and the gifts he has blessed you with. Dwelling on these things sets us back. I used to worry a lot about what I wore, never wanting people to see me in the same outfit twice. I saw all of my YouTube friends dressing fashionably, so I did too. All of the stress of constantly worrying what I was wearing and what people would think of it was stealing my happiness. Comparing ourselves to others removes focus from what we should be proud of within ourselves. I guarantee that someone has looked at you and thought “I wish I could be like her.”

My advice? Keep reminding yourself that comparing yourself to others only discourages you. It will push you to spend money on things you don’t want or need just to be like the people you envy. Take ownership of who you are. Be proud of your positive qualities and achievements. There is no one else on this planet who is just like you.

The Bible is full of many, many things.  It’s full of wisdom, encouragement, lessons, and lots of other valuable things to apply to your life.  I recently came across an article on Pinterest that had a list of “Bible emergency numbers” that apply to specific problems and struggles you might be going through.  Here are some key verses that can help!

  • For when you’re upset – John 14:1-4. Chelsea Crockett - Bible These verses focus on God’s perfect kingdom He has awaiting you.  It gives you hope and reassurance that there is so much more to life.  Don’t get upset over the little things!
  • For when you’re lonely – Psalm 23.  This chapter talks about how the Lord is your shepherd and is always with you.  It gives you comfort knowing that God is with you all the days of your life!
  • For when you’re anxious – Philippians 4:4-9.  Anxiety is a thing that everyone gets.  Whether it’s over a test or a sticky situation, give all your cares to God!
  • For when you’re depressed – Psalm 27.  This chapter is one of my favorites.  It ends with saying “wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”  There are the best days of your life ahead of you!
  • For when you’re lost – Psalm 73:23-26.  These verses talk about how God will guide you even if your flesh and heart fail you.  Seek His counsel because He has you in the palm of His hand!

I hope these help you beat your struggles one verse at a time!

Success and happiness are two things that we can all agree that we want. Success makes us feel accomplished, needed and important, and happiness makes life much more meaningful. Most times, though, we can feel like we are seeking success and happiness with no luck. We try and try,
but we can’t seem to grasp them. Here are 5 behaviors that cultivate happiness and success!

  1. Even if you feel fear about something, step up and give it a try. If you have always wanted to do something or try something but have been too scared to try, put your fear behind you and do it! You may just end up loving it. Living life in fear is no way to live.
  2. Talk nice to yourself. You are your biggest critic, so being conscious of the thoughts going around inside your mind and making sure they are positive and affirming is a great way to keep a optimistic view of yourself.
  3. Practice patience. We tend to want things right here and right now, but lots of time the waiting is worth it. Remind yourself that good things take time.
  4. Be grateful. Being thankful for things in life is a great way to change your outlook and will show you just how blessed you are.
  5. Show your body some love. Make your health a priority, because your body is the vehicle that takes you through life! Take care of it so it can take care of you.

He all have the potential to be successful and happy people! All we have to do is put in a little effort.

How to Find Joy in the Hard Times

Sometimes life is just hard. Sometimes it can feel like life isn’t fair. Why are bad things happening to me? Will I ever get through this? The answer is yes….

Sometimes life is just hard. Sometimes it can feel like life isn’t fair. Why are bad things happening to me? Will I ever get through this? The answer is yes. And you do not have to go through it alone. We all go through trials and sorrow, Jesus himself tells us this in John 16:33! But, the good news? The pain you are going though right now cannot even compare to the joy that is coming! That is from Romans 8:18. Here are a few ways that you can find joy in the hard times.

  1. Have peace: The great thing about this life is that we aren’t walking through it alone, and we can have peace because we know that God has a plan for our lives, and we can have peace in Him. Nothing surprises Him, he has it all planned out! Why worry about life when God has it all under control? Your story is already written! Have peace and know that Jesus has conquered death, and overcame the world. There is nothing He cannot do.62b50cf1f0f2626a5612d78af83f8ce1
  2. Rejoice: You may be thinking “Rejoice? How can I rejoice when I feel like my world is falling apart? How can I rejoice when I feel so sad and alone?” When Paul and Silas were in a dungeon, beaten and shackled in a dark cell, they began praying and singing praises to God. While shackled! And beaten! Other prisoners saw them praising God even in their misery, and they were astounded. Their praising God in their darkest time showed the other prisoners just how much they loved their God. That is what we are called to do, rejoice in our misery because this will show others we trust God. Rejoice, because He is always there, He will never leave us!

You will be so surprised at how God can work in your life when you surrender your pain and sorrow to Him. He will open your eyes to the good in your life, He will put people in your life that will uplift and encourage you, and He will give you strength to get through every hardship you endure! Trust in Him and cast your burdens on Him, because he cares SO much for you.

Life Lessons From 1 Thessalonians 5:11

To me, one of the best things you can do for your friends and family to show them you love them and care for them is to build them up. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says “Encourage each other and build each other up.”1-thesselonians

This is such an important thing to have in life – people who will build you up and encourage you. And it is an important personality trait for us to have ourselves. People like to be around people who are positive and make them feel good about themselves and supported. Life is so much better when you feel like you have a support system and people that believe in you and encourage you to be successful. Be that person for someone else. Be that person that builds others up and encourages them. People will be drawn to you and will want to be around you! It is so energizing to be around positive people.

I have been trying to share tons of encouragement over my social media to try and encourage and build YOU all up. I want to be that person for you, and I pray that you would be that person for someone else.

We’re all at that crucial age of figuring out who we want to be, despite the pressure coming from friends, society, and many other factors that try to shape us into who they want us to be instead.  With all of the standards and expectations put on girls throughout social media, magazines, movies, etc., they make it hard to love the skin we’re in… But that’s exactly what we need to learn to do!  Here are 5 steps that will make you start loving yourself fully and wholeheartedly! Chelsea Crockett - Love Yourself Quote

  1. Avoid perfection.  Putting impossible standards on yourself will never make you happy!  You’ll be let down every time.  Don’t expect to be someone you can’t and shouldn’t be!
  2. Stay off of social media.  I don’t mean to delete all of your accounts and shut yourself out of them forever.  What I mean by this is to not log on just to compare yourself to every girl you see.  If you find yourself doing this, just log off and find something fun and positive to do.
  3. Look in the mirror and point out three things you love about yourself every day.  Positive reassurance is totally underrated.  It really works!  Give yourself three compliments each morning to continue finding things you love about yourself.
  4. Get the right mentality.  Having a negative attitude never helps in any situation.  Work on being happy and positive when it comes to your body.
  5. Acknowledge your achievements and treat yourself.  Sometimes we get down on ourselves for thinking that we’ve failed and just want to give up.  Acknowledge your success and focus on that!  Treat yourself so you feel rewarded and optimistic!

Hopefully you can soak in these tips and learn to appreciate yourself for who you are!

Recently, one of my #1 prayers is for contentment. I pray that God would make me happy and content with what He has given me, because it is so easy to get caught up in the world of “want” and “need.”

Philippians 4:11 says “For I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.” I feel like this should be our prayer every day, to be content in our life and out situation. We should be grateful for what God has given us, and not be jealous or want what others philipians 4-11have. Easier said than done, right? It is so easy to want what others have, whether it is an outfit, a boyfriend, a job, or even family. We get caught up in what we DON’T have and forget what we DO have. When you are shopping and see a super cute dress, think to yourself, do I really need this dress? I already have a closet full, and some people around the world only have a few pieces of clothing whereas my closet is bursting. When we become content with what we have, we become happier. We stop playing the comparison game, and we focus on the positive.

I challenge you to be content in your life. Once you learn contentment, you will be surprised at how much happiness it brings you!

Let’s face it, it costs a pretty penny to feel pretty these days. Girls spend gobs of money on makeups and lotions and hair products to make themselves feel beautiful. Why spend your hard earned cash on those things when you can feel beautiful for free? Here are 5 ways to do just that.

  1. Call your mom or best friend to have a chat: These are the two people that will build you up and remind you of what a beautiful person you are.
  2. Get dressed up for dinner: Here is where you can get yourself all done up. Do your hair, put on some lip gloss, and go out to dinner with the girls.FullSizeRender (44)
  3. Laugh as much as possible: A smile is the most beautiful thing you can wear.
  4. Perform a random act of kindness: Your personality’s beauty will make you shine. Plus, you will feel like a million bucks because you helped someone else.
  5. Go on a walk or run outside: Go to a nature trail and just soak in the beauty of nature. Also, the exercise will make you feel refreshed and, well, beautiful.

Being beautiful doesn’t always mean getting all done up (although that can be fun sometimes J ). It can be something as simple as having a good laugh and feeling yourself smile. Beauty isn’t skin deep!

It may be cliché to say this, but life is full of many ups and downs. I lost count of the days that didn’t go as I had hoped or planned! In church, in school, and in everyday life, I’ve learned a few words that help me get through whatever I’m dealing with, without losing a positive attitude.

  1. Faith. I’ve learned in EVERY situation, that you have to have faith. Without putting my trust and hope in God, I can easily get discouraged. Sometimes so discouraged that I end up not even trying in the first place!Chelsea Crockett - Happiness
  2. Happiness. If you don’t strive towards happiness, how can you live a life you enjoy? I’ve learned that if something or someone isn’t making you happy, it’s best to get rid of whatever it is bringing you down.
  3. Forgiveness. Being a forgiving person not only helps you, but the person you’re forgiving, as well. Forgiving is a domino effect. Once you let go of something with your friend or someone in your family, it doesn’t go unnoticed. Compassion spreads, so why not pass it along yourself?
  4. Love. Love doesn’t only mean finding someone and falling head over heels for them. Love should be shown to anyone and everyone, whether you’re at school or at church. Next time you’re about to comment negatively about someone, show love and lift them up instead of tearing them down!
  5. Patience. Having patience is one of the greatest virtues in life. Things don’t always happen right when you want them to. Waiting patiently is something you’ll learn as you mature. The love of your life is out there, you just might not find them in high school!

Keep these words in mind and live a life filled with joy and happiness!

What does “choosing joy” mean? It means choosing to be happy and live life joyfully, even when times get tough. Choosing joy can change your life and totally change who you are. Here are 4 ways that YOU can choose joy.

  1. Choose to be around the right people. When you spend time with nice people who are smart, driven and like-minded, you are in relationships that help you, not hurt you.  Surround yourself with people who reflect the person you want to be.  Choose friends who you are proud to be associated with, people you admire, who love and respect you. Spend time with people who make your day a little brighter simply by being in it, because life is too short to spend time with people who suck the happiness out of you. Choose-Joy
  2. Choose to smile more often. Smiling is a choice, so choose to make it! Don’t wait for people to smile, show them how! A real smile makes everyone around you feel good. When you smile, a message is sent to your brain saying that you are happy. When you are happy, your body cranks out all kinds of feel good endorphins.  Bottom line? Smiling makes you happier and more joyful.
  3. Choose honesty. Be honest with yourself and everyone else. Be kind, do the right thing! Being honest is a less complicated way to live.
  4. Choose a good attitude. A lot of times, what really messes with our head is the picture of how we think life is supposed to be. Remember, life is a journey, not a destination. Think of every moment as a gift and an opportunity. Be positive, smile, and make your life count.  A great attitude always leads to great experiences.

Choose joy, ladies. I promise you won’t regret it.

Have you ever heard the phrase “you’re prettier when you’re happy”? It is very, very true. There are a couple reasons why this quote speaks the truth, and here they are.chels prom

  1. Happy = Smile: You know it is true, when you are happy you smile! A lot of people say that the most attractive part of a girl is her smile! Also, smiling is just so fun!
  2. Happy = Good Mood: When you are happy, usually that means you are in a good mood! And when you are in a good mood, you are nicer to people. And when you are nice to people, it makes you VERY attractive! An attractive personality makes you so beautiful.
  3. Happy = Better Quality of Life: When you are happy, you enjoy life so much more. When you are enjoying life, you are in a good mood, which makes you smile, which takes your beauty to the max!

Try to make the best out of what you are given, and always try to see the positive in every situation. This will make your life so much more enjoyable. Also, surround yourself with people who encourage your happiness and also supply some of it, because you’re prettier when you are happy!

                Hi all!

It’s that time of year when we all decide to make changes for the new year.  Of course, exercising and eating better are always on many people’s lists.  This year, however, I would like to challenge you to think outside of the box and focus on goals to help yourself and others!  Here are a few ideas.Chelsea Crockett - New Years Resolutions                Happiness is good for your health and our happiness increases when we help others.  Volunteering is a great way to help others.  Find a local charity or animal shelter where you can give a hand or help to raise money for.  If you make volunteering a resolution, you will certainly be giving back to the community and that will help you to feel really good about yourself!
Another healthy resolution would be to stay in touch with old friends or family.  So often our lives get so busy that we fail to keep in touch with those who mean so much to us.  Just spending a little extra time with grandparents can mean the world to them and you.  You can learn so much from their wisdom and you’ll never regret the time you spent to bond with them.
Blessings to your New Year, Insiders!  Comment below and let me know what creative resolution you have made this year to think outside the box!

                                                       XOXO,
