Life is stressful. I am sure you know this already! We over-commit ourselves and stretch ourselves thin, trying to get everything done and hang out with everyone we can. Between work, your social life, and lack of sleep your body can take a beating. Giving yourself a break and letting yourself relax will help keep you sane. By looking for the signs that show that our bodies are needing rest and might want to shake some things up, we can stay happier, healthier and more in love with life each day. Here are eleven things to look for in deciding when to take a breather.

  1. Work is life: Don’t let the “workaholic” culture get the best of you! Being motivated to work hard and perform well is
    great, but you also need to give yourself a break for downtime. This allows your mind and body to recoup and makes you a better worker.
  2. You feel like you are exhausted: Having a crazy schedule can make you feel exhausted. Try and go to bed at a decent time, and listen to your body when it tells you “hey, I am tired, take a break”.
  3. You feel emotional: Signs that you have pushed yourself too far are that you are irritable, panicked, cant sleep well, and have a different appetite. When your body is fatigued it affects your hormones and mood, which affect everyone around you.

When you start to feel burned out, mentally and physically, it is a sign that you need to take a breather. Take a break and have some “me time”, it will make you happier and healthier and will lead you to a more well-balanced life.

Emotions are a crazy thing. One moment you’re happy, the next moment you’re sad; one second you’re loving life, the next you’re angry at the world. What is going on?! Learning how to balance emotions is tricky, but it can be done. Once you’ve learned how to control the way you feel, life will be a much happier place!Chelsea Crockett- worry

  1. When I am feeling stressed, upset, or unappreciated I always turn to my Bible. It reassures me that I am loved, taken care of, and that God will take care of anything that is worrying me.
  2. Make a list of everything you are thankful for. Every time you are sad or angry, read the list. You will realize how much you should be grateful for.
  3. Surround yourself with people that lift you up! If you notice a friend that is always negative or putting you down, it’s time to drop them. If they aren’t doing anything to benefit your life, it’s time to move on.
  4. Go for a run! Running releases endorphins, which, in the simple sense, makes your brain happy.
  5. Take time for yourself. I understand that school, work, sports, family, and friends can be a lot to handle at once, but it’s important to take time to breathe. Set aside 30 minutes to 1 hour a day to watch your favorite show, do a DIY project, or just hangout!

Life is good, so let’s spend it happily!

Do you struggle with always feeling like you want to be happy, but you just arent? Sometimes I am in a dark place in my life and I just don’t feel like there is any way I can be happy. The good news is that sadness only lasts for a little bit, and happiness is just around the corner! Here are some life lessons that help me get happy.

  1. You don’t always have to be right: When you are always stressing about being right about everything, life can be downright depressing! Just learn to let things go and remind yourself that everybody is wrong sometimes.FullSizeRender (3)
  2. Don’t play the blame game: Don’t blame others for the bad things that happen in life. Take responsibility for your actions.
  3. Don’t be so hard on yourself: Give yourself a break! You are only human, and you are doing the best that you can.
  4. Leave the past in the past: Studies have shown that holding grudges is actually physically unhealthy! Forgive and forget and live in the present, not the past.
  5. Quit the complaining: When you complain, you drive people around you crazy. Plus, complaining about something doesn’t make it any better!
  6. Don’t stress to impress: Stop trying to impress everyone. Focus on making those you care about proud of you, and realize that you don’t need other people’s approval to feel good about yourself!
  7. Save the drama fo yo mamma: This one is pretty self explanitory!
  8. Value your relationships: Invest in friendships and relationships. When you put them first in your life you will find that you are so much happier!

It’s easy to stay in your comfort zone. Taking a leap of faith, changing something in your life, or going to a faraway land can be very scary! Many don’t realize that taking these chances can be the best decision of your life. I always wonder what life would be like if I didn’t decide to start my channel. It’s hard to even imagine! Do you ever find yourself stuck in the same old routine? Do you have big dreams that seem unachievable? Side note: They’re not! One of my favorite quotes is, “If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough.” Change is scary, but how can you grow if you don’t welcome change? Scare yourself by traveling across the ocean, changing up your look, or taking on a job or task that seems too big to handle. The result will surprise you. Not only will you believe in yourself more, but you’ll have the confidence to take on even bigger challenges! I never thought I’d be making YouTube videos for millions of people, but it’s given me the drive to try bigger things. I promise: if you scare yourself, the end result will change you (in a good way, of course)!

Sometimes you just need a good laugh. Like, a side-splitting, stomach aching, tears rolling down your face kind of laugh. If this sounds like something you could use then grab your fluffiest blanket, a bowl of popcorn, and maybe a buddy or two and pop one of these movies in. They are sure to give you a good dose of laughter!

Legally blonde: Who can resist a movie about a Cali sorority sister trying to get her Harvard law degree? Reese Witherspoon is a hoot in this fun film. Plus, she wears a TON of pink and totally rocks it.popcorn

Mean girls: I can quote this movie like nobody’s business. This movie takes all of your usual high school cliques and puts them under a microscope, and then magnifies all of their quirks. Plus it has, well, mean girls in it.

Pitch perfect: This movie is aca-awesome (if you’ve seen the movie you will totes get the reference). You will have the songs stuck in your head for days, trust me.

Bridesmaids: Who doesn’t love a movie about a bridezilla and her diva maid of honor?

            As the saying goes, “You are what you eat.”  I couldn’t agree any more with this statement!  If you eat fast food every day, your body and mood will feel the effects.  You’ll feel sluggish and down.  It’s important to feed your body foods that will make you happy.  Surprisingly, there are certain foods that can actually boost your mood.  It’s an all-natural way to go from sad to happy!Chelsea Crockett- greek yogurt

  • Greek yogurt: This type of yogurt is packed with more calcium than milk and studies show that a high intake of calcium can boost your mood.  Low calcium levels can produce anxiety, depression, and slow thinking.  Eat your yogurt!!
  • Dark chocolate: Of course chocolate is a mood booster, duh?!  I mean, who doesn’t love chocolate?  Dark chocolate, especially, improves blood flow to the brain.  This makes your body more energized and vibrant.
  • Asparagus:  This vegetable has the highest concentration of serotonin, a mood regulator for the brain.
  • Honey:  Although sweet like sugar, this sweet treat can reduce inflammation and reduce depression.
  • Eggs:  The fatty omega-3 acid found in eggs can give your body enough energy to make it through your whole day.  When you’re energized, your whole body will feel alive!

What does “choosing joy” mean? It means choosing to be happy and live life joyfully, even when times get tough. Choosing joy can change your life and totally change who you are. Here are 4 ways that YOU can choose joy.

  1. Choose to be around the right people. When you spend time with nice people who are smart, driven and like-minded, you are in relationships that help you, not hurt you.  Surround yourself with people who reflect the person you want to be.  Choose friends who you are proud to be associated with, people you admire, who love and respect you. Spend time with people who make your day a little brighter simply by being in it, because life is too short to spend time with people who suck the happiness out of you. Choose-Joy
  2. Choose to smile more often. Smiling is a choice, so choose to make it! Don’t wait for people to smile, show them how! A real smile makes everyone around you feel good. When you smile, a message is sent to your brain saying that you are happy. When you are happy, your body cranks out all kinds of feel good endorphins.  Bottom line? Smiling makes you happier and more joyful.
  3. Choose honesty. Be honest with yourself and everyone else. Be kind, do the right thing! Being honest is a less complicated way to live.
  4. Choose a good attitude. A lot of times, what really messes with our head is the picture of how we think life is supposed to be. Remember, life is a journey, not a destination. Think of every moment as a gift and an opportunity. Be positive, smile, and make your life count.  A great attitude always leads to great experiences.

  1. Happy = Smile: You know it is true, when you are happy you smile! A lot of people say that the most attractive part of a girl is her smile! Also, smiling is just so fun!
  2. Happy = Good Mood: When you are happy, usually that means you are in a good mood! And when you are in a good mood, you are nicer to people. And when you are nice to people, it makes you VERY attractive! An attractive personality makes you so beautiful.
  3. Happy = Better Quality of Life: When you are happy, you enjoy life so much more. When you are enjoying life, you are in a good mood, which makes you smile, which takes your beauty to the max!

Try to make the best out of what you are given, and always try to see the positive in every situation. This will make your life so much more enjoyable. Also, surround yourself with people who encourage your happiness and also supply some of it, because you’re prettier when you are happy!

            Music is one of the best medicines for the body.  It can affect the brain in great ways!  Music can spark your memory.  Have you ever listened to a song and then remembered something in your past?  It’s incredible how you can remember something so long ago by just listening to part of a song.  Another mental benefit of music is stress reduction and relaxation.  Listening to music can give you an instant mood boost, which in return, makes you less stressed.  For some people, not all, it can even help you focus more on homework and studying.

            Music has some physical benefits as well! Listening to music while working out can cause a boost in your workout pace.  Not only will you reach your physical goals quicker, but you will burn more calories. Since music is a mood booster, it can also cause your immune system to stay up; therefore you won’t get sick as much!  Who would’ve guessed that music had all of these wonderful benefits?  Now pick up your iPod and listen away!

            In the November issue of Teen Vogue, Demi Lovato talks about how she is stronger than ever and how she couldn’t be happier with the skin she’s in.  This is a perfect example of someone we should look up to, especially in our teen years.  Being comfortable and confident in your own skin is one of the very secrets of finding the person you want to be!

            Self-esteem is hard to keep upChelsea Crockett - Confidence at the age we’re at, and going to school doesn’t help.  There’s always someone that has something negative to say about you whether they’re judging your clothes, personality, friends, etc.  Feeling right in your own skin is the first step to ignoring negativity from others.  Don’t be a people pleaser!  You can’t make everyone happy so don’t try so hard.  God made you in His image, so you should be overjoyed with the skin you’re in!
