Toxic people are often hard to get away from.  Whether its due to relationships, being in the same friend group, or simply dating the wrong person, having toxic people in your life can be both draining and exhausting.  Most of us leave these people in our lives because we simply don’t know how to get away from them.  Here’s how you can separate yourself from these people in a kind and mature way!

  • Distance yourself.  Although this doesn’t always work for every situation, it does work for some.  Slowly backing away from the situation really can work.  It’s a good way to get some air and realize what you really want, whether it be in a relationship or with a close friend.
  • Pray for strength.  Prayer is powerful and I’m a strong believer that God provides when you ask him for something.  Sometimes we just need the strength to cut ties with someone and know that it really is for the best.
  • Surround yourself with people who build you up.  Surrounding yourself with good people while trying to distance yourself from the opposite is one of the best distractions.  It shows you the people you deserve to have in your life!  Know your worth!
  • Be bold and determined.  I know it’s easier said than done, but having the courage to know what you deserve in your life is something we should all believe about ourselves.  Changing your mindset to having the boldness to get rid of toxic people in your life is one of the most freeing feelings ever!

I hope you have enough courage to break away from the people bringing you down in your life! 🙂

How to Find Your Passion in Life

We all get stuck sometimes. Stuck where we feel like our life is not going the way we thought it would, or it is not really going anywhere at all. Maybe you are in a job that you really don’t like. Or maybe what you are studying in school isn’t turning out to be as great as you thought it would be. In these times it is important to stop and reflect and remember what you are passionate about and what you love in life. This is not as easy as it sounds, but here are a few ways to help you get there.

  1. Be present: It is easy to put yourself on “autopilot” and just go through the motions of every day. One day we will realize that years have passed and we may feel like we have missed out on doing the things we love to do! Start paying attention and living in the present. Take time to notice what is going on and where you are in life.
  2. Pay attention to how you feel: To find your passions and discover what you love in life, you must let yourself feel things. How will you know what you are passionate about if you shut off feelings of joy and appreciation and excitement? Those emotions can be hard to let ourselves feel because we think that if we let them in, they will probably lead to disappointment. Not always the case.
  3. Learn to put yourself first sometimes: It is important to think about others, but it is also important to give yourself value as well. Finding your passion is about finding yourself, so learn to put yourself first when you need to.
  4. Take pride in your accomplishments and your abilities: Realize what you are good at it, and don’t minimize it. Be proud of it! Find out who you are and what you are good at by “dating yourself.” Ask yourself questions like you were on a date with yourself and were wanting to get to know you. This will help you realize your skills and talents. Brag on yourself a bit!
  5. Write it all down and reflect: Keep track of your thoughts from #4. Write down what you have learned about yourself and use that to help you find what you are passionate about and what you love in life.

And lastly, pray about it! God will reveal to you what you seek if you ask Him, and He will do it when He knows the time is right. Finding your passion can give you so much joy and fulfillment! When you are doing the things you love, life is good. When I realized that my passion was speaking to others about Christ and giving advice, it changed my life.

Psalm 93:4 says “Mightier than the waves of the sea is His love for you.”

What an incredible visual. When you gaze at waves on the ocean, you can see just how powerful waves are as they rumble to the shore. That’s why this verse is so meaningful to me. It says that God’s love for us is mightier than the waves on the sea. No one on this earth will love you like that. If you are feeling lonely, sad, misunderstood, or unloved, I think this is a great verse to study. Next time you are at the ocean, take a minute to admire the strength of the waves and remember that God’s love for you is even mightier.

Isaiah 60:22 says “When the time is right, I, The Lord, will make it happen.”

God doesn’t make things happen on our time. They happen on HIS. You may be in a stage of life where you are waiting on something big to happen or are waiting on answers. God’s timing is always perfect timing. It might not seem like it now, but good things come to those who wait. Waiting is hard! It can seem like God has forgotten about us or thinks we are unimportant. That is the opposite of the truth. God loves us so much. He knows all of the hairs on our head! He knows absolutely everything about us. That means he knows what is best for us. His ways are better than ours! Find comfort in that. When you feel like nothing is happening for you in your life, just know that God has a plan, and His plans are better than anything we could ever dream up for ourselves. In the future, you will be able to look back at what happened and what God did and see that it was true, He took care of you and everything turned out all right.

Let go and let God.

Life Lessons from Daniel 3:17-18

Have you ever wanted something so bad and worked so hard for it…and then didn’t get it? And you wondered why God would do this to you, you deserved it, right? It could be a scholarship, boyfriend, job, winning a sports event, anything that you strive for and want more than anything. Daniel 3:17-18 gives us a little reality check when we don’t get the things we really want.

Daniel 3:17-18 says “And if not, He is still GOOD.” This means that if God doesn’t give you what you want or badly desire or have strived for, He is still good. He knows what is best for you, and maybe getting the job or boyfriend would have led to something negative in the future. He knows how much you can handle in your life, and He knows what your life has in store for you. Think about all of the other things He has given you in your life! You are incredibly blessed. He is SO good!

So, when you don’t God doesn’t give you exactly what you want or have strived for, just remember all of the other blessings in your life and that He is good!

During this season of life, I have been looking up encouraging Bible verses to prepare both my heart and my mind for the trials and hard times. One verse that has calmed my anxious heart is Psalm 139:5, which says “ You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.”

To me, this verse says that there is no need to worry about the future. God has gone before you and prepared the way for you. He already knows your future and what it holds, so there is no reason for YOU to fret about it. He has looked into the future and has seen the trials you will have, and he is preparing you for them right now. He places his hand of blessing on your head, which is a comfort to know. He has blessed you greatly and will continue to do so! Not only does God go before you, but He also follows you wherever you go. You are not alone, He is with you! When you feel nervous or anxious, just remember that whatever you are going through is in God’s plan.

God has blessed you in so many ways! Have comfort in knowing that he has gone before you and prepared a way for you!

As teenagers, we still have so much life left to live.  I’ve always wondered how people at the end of their lives feel looking back on their own lives.  Are they filled with happiness?  Or regret and unfulfillment?  I found a post online that listed a few life lessons from an 80-year-old.  I found them inspiring and wanted to share some of them!

  • Look people in the eye.” Chelsea Crockett - Bible verseEye contact is important and the ability to have that is a good quality to have!  It tells people that you’re really interested in the conversation.  This is something our generation needs to learn how to do!
  • “Become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know.”  I’ve always loved the quote, “be the person you want to meet.”  We should all strive to be the best person we can be!
  • “Make it a habit to do nice things for people who will never find out.” Doing something nice for someone is easy, but doing it without getting any recognition is what we can often struggle with.  Try it sometime!
  • “Loosen up. Relax. Nothing is as important as it first seems.”  I live by this advice!  It is so important to let go of things and know that you’re probably stressing over nothing anyway.
  • “Be bold and courageous.”  There’s a verse in the Bible that says the same thing.  Take risks and get out of your comfort zone!  Life’s too short to let opportunities pass you by.

What lessons have you learned so far throughout your life?  Share with me below!

There are a lot of “plus sides” to the internet. Funny memes and Instagram, just to name a few. There are also a lot of down sides, one of the biggest being that it can be a danger to your privacy. Breaches in your online security can have really bad consequences, from having your passwords stolen and your social media accounts hacked to someone getting your credit card information and stealing your identity. The best way to prevent a breach in your online security and privacy is to never do any of the following:

  1. Giving unnecessary info: When you are filling out a profile online, whether it is a clothing website or a social media profile, be wary about what information you give them. A lot of the time, the information they are asking for isn’t really needed (things like your mother’s maiden name and your phone number, to name a few). Only fill out the boxes that are required, and I even suggest making up a fake birthday so it is not as easy for people to steal your identity.
  2. Sharing your location settings: When apps like Facebook or sites like Google ask if they can use your location, say no. Especially Facebook because every post you make tells your location, which makes it easy for people to track you. People can be tracking you on sites where you wouldn’t even expect it! Be careful when letting sites use your location data.
  3. Using the same password for everything: I used to be bad at this! It is so convenient to use the same password, or a variation of it, for everything because you never forget it. But, once a hacker has that password, they can go to town. Use a different password for everything to make sure that a hacker can’t take over your accounts! Keep your passwords in a small notebook so that you can keep track of them.

I want you to stay safe on the internet, so I hope these warnings help!

Psalm 34:14 tells us to “Seek peace and pursue it.” Are there areas of your life where you wish there was seek peacemore peace or happiness?

To me, seeking and pursuing peace means a couple of things. First, it means to not seek conflict. If you disagree with someone, you can respectfully disagree with them and politely state your opinion, but
there is no need to stir up drama or create a confrontation. Secondly, I think it is about your attitude. I happy, friendly person is definitely more peaceful and more calming to be around than an uptight or rude one. Being a person that makes the people around them feel at peace, happy and at ease is a big deal. It can be a great way to minister to people and also draws people to you.

If you want to set an example for others, then seek peace and pursue it. A more peaceful life means a less stressed and tense life.

We all have bad days. We have days where we don’t feel like ourselves, where we are mad or angry or sad and maybe take it out on the people we love. There are also times where we do things we know we shouldn’t be doing, and then end up feeling guilty or disappointed in ourselves. Lucky for us, God lets us push the “reset” button every day.lamentations

Lamentations 3:23 says “His mercies are new every morning.” This means that God doesn’t hold your mistakes against you, he gives you a chance to start fresh every day if you ask Him for forgiveness. God doesn’t want you to live in guilt or sadness because of how you acted or what you did in the past. He wants you to treat each day like it is a brand new gift and a fresh start. He shows you mercy by wiping your slate clean every day. We don’t deserve this, but we serve a gracious and mighty God. Because of His son Jesus dying on the cross for us, we are able to repent of our sins and are forgiven and made new.

I am so happy that I serve a God who gives me countless chances to do the right thing and start over!

Being thankful is a year-round job, not just a thing we do around Thanksgiving. Actually, it has been scientifically proven that being thankful has health benefits! Gratitude is something that we all can show every day. Showing others that we are grateful for them makes us happier, improves our relationships, productivity, health, and even our sleep! Here are 10 ways that having an attitude of gratitude can benefit you.

  1. Sleep: My favorite! By writing down a few grateful thoughts before bed, your stress levels are reduced and your relaxation response is triggered.
  2. Emotions: Being grateful reduces toxic emotions like rage, regret, and frustration. It reduces feelings of envy and makes our experiences happier and also helps us recover from stress!
  3. Relationships: Showing others you are grateful for them helps boost your friendships. Showing others kindness by doing things like holding the door and saying thank you makes you feel good inside as well as shows others you care. People want to be around people like that!
  4. Self-esteem: We perform better and act better when we are confident and happy. Gratitude reduces our feeling of jealousy because instead of feeling jealous or resentful about what other people have, we are grateful for what we have and are able to appreciate other people’s accomplishments.

Having an attitude of gratitude can really change your outlook on life and brighten it! An easy way to get in the habit of being thankful is to keep a gratitude journal. Simply write down 3 things you are grateful for as soon as you wake up and before you go to bed. It can be things as simple as the sunshine, or even a great score on a test. Train your mind to default to positivity. It will change your life.

The other day I saw a really inspiring quote. It said “There isn’t enough room in your mind for both worry and Faith. You must decide which one will live there.”

I love this quote because it tells it to you straight: if you are worried, you need to trust in God and give your worries to Him, because that is how you show your faith. Your mind doesn’t have the energy to hold on to worry but to also trust God with your problems. They contradict each other! You must decide turn-your-worries-into-faithwhich you value more. You must decide which you want to hold on to. For me, I had to decide whether I was going to worry about my life and my future, or whether I was going to put my faith and trust in my Savoir. Ever since I made that decision, I have felt so much peace about my situation. I know that God is in control, and that I need to continue to turn my worries into faith.

Just a little faith talk to inspire you today.

How to De-Clutter your Life

Do you ever just feel overwhelmed with life? I feel most overwhelmed when my room is a mess, my closet is a mess, my bathroom is a mess, and everything else is a mess! The best way to keep that overwhelmed feeling at bay is to simplify your life and de-clutter. Here are a few easy ways to de-clutter your space so you can feel like you’ve got your life together. These are things you can get rid of and not even miss.

Magazines: Let’s face it. We all have a pile of magazines in our room that we insist we will eventually read or make crafts out of. Recycle those puppies! If you haven’t read them yet, you probably won’t be getting to it any time soon. You will always get new magazines in the mail, or if you need them for crafts you can get them at Goodwill!download

Makeup: I have a whole tub of half-used or forgotten-about makeup. What good is it if I don’t use it? Some of it is dried up or broken. Why in the world do I keep it? I have no idea. Toss it!

Hangers: I always seem to have a ton of abandoned hangers jutting out from my closet. They always get in the way when I am trying to put laundry away or pick out clothes to wear. Grab all of those lonely hangers and put them in a storage bin or just get rid of them!

Crafts: Those half-finished DIYs sitting around? Those need to go.

You will not believe how good it feels to de-clutter your space. Seriously, it feels so freeing! Simplifying life is important.

Sometimes, doing good is exhausting. Sometimes it can feel like you are the only one who really cares, and the only one who is trying to make a difference and do some good. You can feel alone and tired of being different. I know the feeling. Sometimes, the thought crosses my mind that it would be so much easier to be like the world wants me to be. It would be so much easier to go with the flow and conform to society’s standards. But then I remember Galatians 6:9 which says “Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not give up.”galations

This verse pretty much says “Don’t give up!”, don’t let the world get you down and tell you that the good you are doing is not making a difference, and that you are incapable of changing the world. It can feel so lonely when other people don’t accept the way you live or how you act. But the Bible says to not grow weary. Don’t let the world exhaust you and make you think that you aren’t making a difference. Every good deed you do, every nice word you say, and every selfless action just shows people God’s love through you. God says that it will all be worth it if we do not give up! We will make a difference, and we will change people’s lives for the better.

Whenever you feel like you are just one person, and that your “doing good” is not making a difference, know that it truly is. Do not grow weary, don’t give up, because it is so worth it.

Does the thought ever cross your mind that you have made so many mistakes and have sinned so much that you don’t feel like you deserve God’s love? We should never feel like that. It doesn’t matter what we say, what we do, what mistakes we make, God still loves us unconditionally.kid

My past was made clean by my King. Any mistake or sin that I made in the past has been washed away. If you ask God to forgive you, He does and doesn’t look back. It doesn’t matter how long or how often you have sinned, because we ALL sin and fall short of what God expects of us. But no matter how many times we fall down, He picks us back up and says that our past has been forgiven. We can move forward knowing that our sin and shame is behind us and we have a clean slate.

In our lives, we will all have times when we feel like we need a fresh start. God makes your past clean and gives you a renewed sence of purpose and a bright future. If you ever feel like you don’t deserve His love or forgiveness, just remember that He created you and loves you unconditionally. Your past can be made clean by your King.

We all have tough times. We all have pain that we think won’t end, and sadness that seems to take over every other emotion. When life sends you into a deep dark pit, know that God will be there with a ladder to help you climb up and out. How do I know this? His word tells us in Exodus 15:26 that “I am the Lord that heals you.”ephesians

If you have watched my “life update” video on YouTube then you know there is a lot going on in my life right now, and the main thing that has kept me going is the knowledge that God has a reason for this season, and He will heal my heart in His time. Life is hard. We all know that, but even though we know it, we aren’t always prepared for when it bares its teeth. It always seems to do so at the worst time and when you least expect it.

Whether you are suffering from an illness, depression, anxiety, or even a broken heart, we can find comfort in knowing that nothing lasts forever and that the pain is temporary. This dark time cannot compare to the joy that is in store for you in this life! Keep hanging on. You are an overcomer.
