Whether you shop at Sephora or not, you can’t deny a good steal when you find one!  Getting new makeup is always fun, but getting the same makeup at a cheaper price?  Even better!  I recently discovered several different money hacks you can use for yourself at Sephora.  Here they are so you can get the best bang for your buck just like I do!

  • Follow Sephora on Facebook.  Chelsea Crockett - Sephora MakeupExclusively through their Facebook, Sephora offers you discounts and giveaways that a ton of people aren’t even aware of!
  • Take a few samples of products you’ve been dying to try.  Sephora allows you to take up to three samples home with you so you can test a product before spending a bunch of money on the real deal!  You can also get some free makeup :).
  • Join their rewards program.  This one may be obvious, but if you’re a frequent Sephora shopper, you can get so many awesome discounts and savings.  Why not right?
  • Free shipping is a big deal if you order online frequently.  You can sign up for the Sephora Flash Subscription and get free, 2-day shipping for the whole year.  And it’s only $10!
  • If you buy something that goes on sale a week later, you can take it into the store to get the price adjusted within two weeks of the purchase.  You might as well save every penny you can!

I hope you take advantage of these hacks and get some makeup to add to your collection! 🙂

Making money is always nice, right?  Especially if all you have to do is get rid of some of your old clothes!  There are several different apps and organizations that are perfect for making a little cash off of clothes you don’t wear or need anymore.  If you’re interested, keep reading to find out how! 🙂Chelsea Crockett - Poshmark

  • Consignment Shops.  If you have nicer clothes and accessories that you never use anymore, such as designer or high-end brands, you can sell them to these shops for a pretty decent profit!  They’ll then resell it for a higher price, but at least you get a good amount of money back.
  • Plato’s Closet.  If you have tons and tons of clothes you want to get rid of instead of just a single item, you can take boxes full of clothes to Plato’s Closet and see what they’ll take off your hands.  Sometimes they’ll send back a lot of what you’re trying to drop off, but other times you’ll make a pretty good profit off of it.
  • Poshmark.  If you’re looking to both sell some items and purchase some for yourself, Poshmark is the app for you.  You can pick your selling price or even trade other sellers for items you’re interested in like the picture on the right.  You might as well check it out!

I hope this helps you declutter your closet and make some money at the same time!

Online shopping is both a blessing and a curse.  Having the ability to buy anything and everything at the click of a button can be scary (especially for my bank account!).  There are certain things you can do to online shop the smart way, by finding deals and discounts!  Here are a few tips that my wallet can thank me for.

  • Most of the time, you can sign up for an online account and receive discounts right off the bat!  It’s super simple and usually saves you over 20% off your purchase.Chelsea Crockett - Online Shopping Meme
  • If you have a smartphone, download the store’s app to your phone.  You can usually turn on notifications for sales and discounts!
  • Keep an eye out for marked off items on the website.  Just like a sale rack in the store, there will be sections online with discounted clothing.  Just because you’re not in the store doesn’t mean you can’t snag a good deal!
  • Read the reviews.  A lot of times, websites with really cheap clothing can either be an awesome steal or a waste of money.  Read what other people have to say about the brand or company to make sure it’s legit!
  • Don’t forget that coupons and gift cards work just the same as in stores!  You can usually find somewhere on the website before you check out that lets you redeem the code found on your card.

What online shopping tips do you follow?  I’m always in need of some shopping tips! 🙂

Let’s face it, college is expensive!  Unless you’re a genius or a star athlete, odds are a big chunk of money will be spent on your college education.  You may be drowning in student loans and tuition fees but you’re in luck!  There are certain tips you can follow that help you cut back on small payments and fees that will surely add up over the years!

  • Rent textbooks and leave them unopened if you can.  Some professors will make you purchase a book that you’ll end up not even using.  In some cases, you can return your unused books at the end of the semester to get your money back!  Chelsea Crockett - College Spending
  • Take advantage of your meal plan!  At most schools, your meals are prepaid for.  It might be tempting to eat at other places around campus but using up your meal plans is the smartest thing to do!
  • Only take your car if absolutely necessary.  Parking can be expensive!  Talk with your roommate/suitemates and see if they’re bringing a car.  That way you can always catch rides if you need to go somewhere!
  • If you’re in a sorority, it can be tempting to buy a ton of t-shirts and other sorority things.  Practice self-control and only purchase the mandatory ones or if you’re absolutely in love with the shirt! 🙂
  • If you get tired of your wardrobe, pick out some things that you’re tired of and have a clothing swap with your friends!  I’m sure they’re feeling the same way and would like to save some money and get new clothes at the same time as well!

If you’re a college student, which hacks do you use?  Let me know!

I love the feeling I get after a workout, when my muscles are sore and I am exhausted but also feel completely energized at the same time. New studies are showing that, not only is exercise vital to your physical and mental health, it also saves you money!exercise2

How? Let me explain. Studies are showing that regular exercise can save you up to a couple thousand dollars a year in medical bills. Exercising for at least 30 minutes five times a week leads to fewer hospitalizations, and ER and doctor visits! I don’t know about you, but I will do almost anything to avoid having to go to the doctor. It is important,
though, that you are doing the right kind of exercise. Thirty minutes of moderate to intense activity, which is things like fast walking or lawn mowing, five days a week count. Also, 25 minutes of vigorous activity, like running or swimming, 3 days a week works too! Both of these options help boost your heart health and your overall health!

It is obvious that the most important reason to exercise is to keep you mentally and physically healthy, but if you needed even more motivation, just think of the money it saves you!

Many of us are guilty of spending hundreds of dollars on hair styling products. Brands such as Chi can charge over a hundred dollars for a single straightener… Yikes! There are hundreds of different brands that offer the same types of products, but do they work just as well? Or is it worth the splurge?Chelsea Crockett - Hair Styling Tools I’m here to answer your questions!

Don’t get me wrong, the brand Chi offers amazing hair products. Their prices may be high, but their quality is worth it. They’re long-lasting and work really well on all different types of hair. That being said, there are many other brands that have the same effect as the higher quality products. When you’re shopping for a new straightener or curler, it’s hard to know which product you’re getting the best deal on based off the box or price. I suggest reading up on reviews and ratings before buying! They’re usually pretty accurate and can save you time and money!

As for styling products such as gels and oils, the same rules can be applied. One product that comes to mind is Moroccan Oil which can be pretty pricey. Argon oil from Target works almost just as well and is much more reasonably priced! You have to read up on different reviews of products to see if they’re worth the money!

For me, college is just around the corner. Let me tell ya, I’m a little nervous! My biggest fear is monetary. College is crazy expensive as we all know. How do I save money when I have to pay for textbooks, food, tuition, and more! Having a job is almost a must, and it is difficult to do that and balance your course load at the same time. So, to ease your (and my) worries about saving money during college, here are a few tips.

  1. Buy used textbooks: And then sell them back! Or rent them. Chegg.com is a great resource for this. Or you can even post the books on Facebook when your class is over and see if any of your friends need that book and can buy it from you! This is a much cheaper option over buying new textbooks.y-u-no-meme-00061
  2. Sell unneeded things: Do you have a closet full of old bags, clothes, games, or anything of value that you just don’t use anymore? Sell it! Every few dollars helps.
  3. Shop & spend less: I know it is tempting to do a little retail therapy, especially after a tough exam, but resist the urge! There are other way more important things to spend your money on, like savings and tuition. When you do shop, shop with a purpose and only buy the thing you came in the store for. Also, shop at discount stores like Tj Maxx and Marshalls! I love those stores. And another thing, when you are out shopping, ask if they offer student discounts before you check out!
  4. Apply for scholarships, buy your own food, and make your own coffee: Scholarships are free money, so apply for as many as you can! Also, instead of going to Chipotle for dinner, eat on campus or buy your own groceries and make a bunch of meals with them to save money. This goes for coffee, too. You can find yummy coffee “recipes” online that taste just as good as Starbucks, and for a fraction of the price!

Making small changes in the way you live during college can really help your wallet out! Only spend what you have budgeted, and keep track of what you spend. Saving money, no matter what amount, is so beneficial to you in the long run, and your future self and student loans will thank you!

Saving money can be one tough ordeal!  Going to the mall or out to dinner can be deadly for your bank account.  You plan on buying one shirt and end up with three!  Of course it’s easy to spend your money, but is it really worth it?  There are plenty of painless ways to save money that will make your wallet smile!

  • Do you like to work out?  Use it as a goal to save money!  Every time you complete a work out, put a dollar in a jar.  By the end of the year, you should have a couple hundred dollars saved up.
  • Skip the appetizer or dessert.  Some restaurants charge around $10 for one dish!  If you do this often, you’ll be saving up money in no time.
  • Bring a set amount of money with you wherever you go!  If you know you only want to spend $50, but know that you get tempted easily, only bring $50 to the mall with you!  This way, you won’t spend all your money in one day.
  • Think before you buy!  If you want something that is a little more expensive, don’t buy it right away!  Continue shopping or go home and buy it the next day if youChelsea Crockett- money really want it.  Impulse buys can drain the bank.
  • Borrowing is the way to go!  Instead of buying an outfit that you will wear one night, try borrowing an outfit from one of your friends.

Although saving money may be tough, it’ll be worth it in the end!  Happy saving!

Love,

Chelsea

Spending money is easy. Saving it? Not so much! Although spending money can be fun and exciting, the bills you receive are quite the opposite. If you are a high school or college student looking for a few ways to save your money, look no further! Here is a list of 5 ways to save money that every girl should know:

 1. Listen to songs you love on free apps and sites like Spotify, Pandora, or YouTube instead of downloading them on iTunes, which costs $.99 to $1.29 per song. iTunes also has a new feature called “iTunes Radio” that is similar to Pandora and Spotify.

2. Buy your feminine products like tampons, makeup removing wipes, bobby pins, hair bands, and toothpaste in bulk. Stuff is so much cheaper in bulk opposed to buying them individually at the drugstore. Look for them at places like Sam’s Club.

3. If you never use your gym membership, cancel it! Start to work out at home using YouTube fitness tutorials! There are TONS of tutorials like yoga and cardio routines!chelsea crockett save money

4. Every time you go shopping and see something you love but don’t really need, put it back on the rack and wait 24 hours. If you can’t stop thinking about it, it might be a sign that it is worth it. You’d be surprised how often we forget about items that we almost buy when we put a little distance between the item and us.

5. Are you a shopaholic but don’t have the funds to fuel your love of shopping? Get together with a few friends and have a clothing swap. Not only will you be cleaning out your closet, but you will also get some fresh new pieces to spice up your closet.

What To Do With Clothes You Don’t Want Anymore!

Hello Lovelies,

Dealing with clothes you don’t like anymore or ones that don’t fit can be a hassle.  You feel bad not wearing them and they take up room in your closet.  Sometimes, old clothes can just keep piling up!  Luckily, there are many things you can do with clothing you don’t want anymore!

  • Cut it up!  If you have a shirt that you still like, but is a little too tight, try altering it yourself.  Cut the sleeves so it is a tank top and make the neck a v-neck.  This will automatically make the top looser.  If it is a little tight in the waist either try making a small slit at the bottom of each side at the seam or wash the shirt and stretch it out yourself.  Don’t dry it!
  • If you feel like making a little money, take your clothes to a resell-it shop.  Although you won’t make a lot of money off your old clothes, it’s better than letting them sit in your closet.  Make a small profit instead of letting them go to waste!
  • Donate!!!  Donating your clothing to organizations like the Salvation Army or to a family in need is such a great feeling.  If you don’t need the clothes anymore, then give them to someone who does! Chelsea Crockett- donating clothes

Don’t let old clothes go to waste at the bottom of your closet.  There are plenty of other options!  Start today and clean up your wardrobe!

College Students: Budgeting

Hi Insiders,

Now I know a lot of my followers aren’t in college, but for those who are or are starting, here’s a guide to budgeting during your college years.  It’s easy to spend your money quickly when you go out with friends or at school events, but trust me saving up will pay off in the long run!  Follow these quick tips and you’ll be on your way to stashing money in no time!Chelsea Crockett- saving money

  1. Try the “pay check” trick!  Whenever you get a pay check, put half of your earnings in your wallet and half in your savings account.  Do this right away!  That way, you can’t spend that money even if you wanted to!
  2. Check out your local businesses!  Most restaurants and shops around a college town offer student discounts.  If you feel like eating out or shopping, check out one of those places.  It’ll save you money and support local businesses.  It’s a win-win situation!  Plus, most of these places are in walking distance, so you don’t have to spend gas money!
  3. Say no to your credit card!  When you go out with friends, withdraw a specific amount of cash.  This will stop you from spending more than you want to.
  4. Be careful with the saying “I’ll pay you back!”  A lot of times, your friends will forget or take a long time to get the money to you.  Be careful!

Whether it’s for a Spring Break trip, Study Abroad, or for your future, saving money is a very important life lesson!

Enjoy college!

pioggybank_postA bank lets you do a lot more with your money than just store it.  If someone has money in the bank, he or she can write checks, get small amounts of money out as it is needed, and pay bills from the money in the bank.

A bank has other benefits too.  It pays you a little bit for keeping your money, it keeps the money safe, and it can hold as much as you’ll ever get.  It’s fun to put money in a piggy bank. But sooner or later you’ll want to have a bank account.
