Promises for the New Year

The new year is a blank slate. You have the chance to make different choices, new friends, life changes, and much more. This next year is full of new things. 2018 is an open book! To help you navigate the new year, here are some promises that the Bible gives us that have stood the test of time.

  1. Galations 6:9- “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we wll reap a harvest if we do not give up.” This verse reminds me to keep perservering despite people doubting and knocking me down. Don’t get tired of doing good, even when you don’t see the benefits. Even when you don’t see them, they are there. Keep the faith.
  2. Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” When you are going through life’s storms, remember that you are not alone.
  3. Jeremiah 29:11 – “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” God has a plan for your life, and it is to give you a bright future. Thank goodness our futures aren’t in our own hands. All of the pressure is off of our shoulders. Our lives are being shaped by the creater of the universe.
  4. James 1:2-4 – “Count it joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” The trials of life are God testing and strengthening you. The tests mold you into the person you are and without struggles, we wouldn’t know the things we know. Trials bring wisdom, and so does patience.
  5. Isaiah 40:31 – “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” When you feel like you are lacking the strength to go on, call on Jesus. He will give you the strength you need.
  6. Philippians 4:6-7 –“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Don’t let your worries get the best of you. Put your trust in God, leave your hopes and dreams in His hands. Give it to God in prayer. He knows everything, and He will give your heart peace.

Let’s make 2018 count!

4 Ways to Start the New Year Fresh

At the beginning of the year, we are sometimes tempted to go along with the phrase “new year, new me.” This year, I don’t want a new me, I want a fresh me. I want a fresh year that is open to new things and adventures. Putting the old year behind us allows us to see the bigger picture and stop dwelling on the past. Here are 5 little ways to help you get the fresh start that you may be looking for this new year.

  1. Do a little minor redecorating: Even if it is just buying a cute new area rug or a pretty piece of artwork for your wall, adjusting the look of your space can give you an opportunity to express yourself and start fresh. When you spend most of your time in a space, the way it makes you feel can really impact your motivation and mood. You can also get rid of things in your room that bring you bad memories or that don’t bring you joy, or go through your closet and get rid of clothes that you never ever wear.
  2. Delete old photos on your phone: When you look back to the beginning of the photos on your phone, you will probably find tons of pointless screen shots or photos that are doing nothing but taking up space. Delete duplicates, photos of old exes, or photos that don’t matter to you anymore. Save the ones you want to save onto your computer or an external hard drive, and then delete them off of your phone. Boom, fresh start.
  3. Delete apps you don’t use: Clear your mind and clean your phone. After you have deleted the unnecessary photos off of your phone, go through and delete the apps you don’t need. You really only use a few apps regularly. De-cluttering your phone can feel almost as good as cleaning out your closet!e76aab43ee0d2767c992fe37e9935d58a1ace97ebf7ab1f242b1d13e20b5cee9
  4. Unfriend/unfollow people on social media: I love a good social media cleanse. Start the year off by deleting the friends that you no longer talk to or that bring you down or make you feel bad about yourself. If you are feeling exhausted from the amount of time you spend on social media, then ask yourself which friends or followers are causing you grief (whether it be by comments or posts that make you feel insecure). Unfollow people who don’t lift you up. It is healthy to cleanse your life of people who no longer talk to you or see you, or people who make you feel bad.

New year, fresh start.

I’m usually not a “New Year’s Resolution” kind of girl. They can be kind of daunting, and when you fail at them it can make you feel down in the dumps. But, I have found a few resolutions that are more like “life goals”, if you do them you feel good about yourself, and if you don’t it doesn’t make any difference! Here are a few easy “resolutions” to take on in 2017.

  1. Stop trying to diet. Dieting is a waste of time. Drink more water and eat more fruits and veggies. Also exercise regularly! That’s all the “dieting” you need!
  2. Take a social media break. Staying off of it for a few days can help clear your mind and give you a new perspective on things. I did that when I came home from college and it was one of the best things for me.
  3. Be present with other people. This kind of goes with the one above. When you are out to dinner with friends or family, or if you are at a friend’s house hanging out, put your phone away and give them your attention.
  4. Give more compliments.new-year-resolutions
  5. Find a form of exercise you enjoy. If you like it, you are more likely to do it!
  6. Try things you’ve never done before. It could be food, exercise, movie genres, anything that you haven’t done before!
  7. Talk to older family members about their childhood. I love listening to my older family members talk about what it was like to grow up in the time period they did. You can learn so much from them, and they love sharing their memories with you!

Not all New Year’s resolutions have to be boring!

Hot Spots to Focus on In the New Year

Hello Insiders,

Welcome to 2014!  I can’t believe how quickly time goes by.  Doesn’t it feel like just yesterday you were a little kid?  When looking back on life, I’m sure you can find a lot of things to be thankful for.  I know I can!  As you get older, it’s important to focus yourself on more important things, rather than material goals.  Focus on being a better you and making others happy!
Getting into the high school and college scene can be fun, but never forget about your family or spirituality.  This year, I challenge you to spend more time with your family and with God.  I know it can be hard to pay grandma a visit when you have a million things to do, but just think about the joy that it will bring to her!  Also, focus on becoming closer with God.  Buy a devotional, talk with others, or download some spiritual music on your iPod.  I promise, it’s not that hard!Chelsea Crockett- eating healthy

You always hear of the classic line, “I’m going to lose weight this year.”  STOP.  Instead of saying “losing weight” say, “I’m going to be healthy this year.”  As long as you exercise and eat healthy, then who cares if you are stick thin!  Focus on being a healthier you, not a skinnier you.

Come up with a list of things to challenge yourself with this year.  They don’t have to be resolutions, just small things to work on.  With a few simple tweaks in your lifestyle, you’ll discover a happier you.

Love,

            Chelsea
