Quiet time: a peaceful time to spend with God and meditate on His Word.  Have you ever set aside a half hour or so to spend solely with God?  I understand that you may be busy or simply don’t feel motivated to get up and do it, and that’s okay!  There are different ways to get you excited, stay encouraged and motivated, and find joy in quiet times!

  1. Make sure you have all you need before you sit down to do a quiet time!  Chelsea Crockett - Quiet TimesBe sure to have a Bible, journal, pen, and devotional or lesson to walk through.
  2. Set aside a specific time each day to devote solely to your quiet time.  I usually try to get in at least 30 minutes, but you can start small with 10 or 15, or even 5 minutes before you head to school or work!
  3. Find a spot to do your quiet time.  If you like the outdoors, find a place outside such as under your favorite tree or by a lake!  You can even try out places like Starbucks or other coffee shops that have a relaxing atmosphere.
  4. Pick a certain devotional.  This allows you to have a specific game plan when you sit down.  Print out questions from online that go with specific verses or even get a guided devotional app on your phone!
  5. Find an accountability partner.  If your friend is wanting to start doing quiet times, keep each other accountable.  Text each other at the end of the day to make sure you both did one for the day!

I encourage you to try and set aside time once a day or even once a week.  You’ll notice a huge difference in your life and yourself!

Love, Chelsea

Picture this: you lay down in bed after a long day, close your eyes, and toss and turn for the next three hours.  Sound familiar?  Anxiety can affect your mind and body, especially when you lay down at night and try to sleep!  We’ve all been there, but we don’t have to be!  Here are three night remedies to reduce anxiety.

  • If you know you get anxious late at night or before you go to sleep, purchase a lavender candle or lavender-scented room spray.  Light your candle 30 min before bed so your room is filled with a lavender aroma when you lay down to sleep!  Chelsea Crockett - Hot BathIf you forget to light your candle or don’t want to fall asleep with it burning, spray around your bed with lavender room spray.  The scent of lavender is proven to lower blood pressure and reduce anxiety!  Maybe even put a drop of lavender essential oil on your bed, pillow, or skin.
  • Take a hot bath!  Hot baths are already known for their relaxing aromas, but adding just a simple ingredient can make them 10x more calming.  What is it you ask?  Epsom salts!  These release an inorganic chemical called magnesium sulfate which has shown to lower blood pressure and reduce anxiety.  It truly calms you down!
  • Ever heard of chamomile tea?  Most people use it to make them sleep, but it works for anxiety just as well!  It supposedly releases chemicals that help you to relax.  There are many studies that have shown a dramatic decrease in anxiety for those who drink chamomile tea daily!

Which remedy works best for you?  Try them out and let me know!

What Really Happens When You Sleep in Your Makeup

You’ve always heard that sleeping in your makeup is a huge skin “no-no.”  I know I’m not the only one that’s too lazy to take off my makeup before bed every once in a while!  But what really happens to your skin when you let your makeup sit overnight?  Here are the real dangers of sleeping in your makeup!

Especially in the winter, it can be hard to keep your skin properly hydrated.  When you leave foundation and other face makeup on your skin overnight, it clogs your Chelsea Crockett - Dry Skinpores and causes it to dry out.  If you allow it several nights in a row, your skin might start to flake which makes it hard to apply your makeup properly.  This dryness will cause an increase in dead skin cells which results in very dull skin that can’t be fixed with a little moisturizer!  If you don’t wash your face, you’ll lose your skin’s glow and radiance!

As far as eye makeup and lipstick goes, a buildup of either of these is no good either!  Not only is leftover mascara and eyeliner bad for your lashes, but it leaves your eyes and the areas around them prone to infections.  And as far as lipstick, caking your lips multiple times a day and not washing it off at night can lead to chapped, dry lips.  This doesn’t look or feel too good!

Now that you know the truth, remember to find the motivation to take off your makeup when you’re getting ready for bed whether you’re too lazy or not!

Creative Ways to Fall Asleep Faster

Getting snuggled up in bed at the end of the day is one of my favorite things. Sometimes I can fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. Other times, it takes me an hour or so to even get tired! There are certain things I do that help me fall asleep on those nights. If you have trouble sleeping, try out some of these tips. They really work!

  • Cut down on caffeine intake. Chelsea Crockett - Falling Asleep Meme If caffeine affects you in even the slightest way, then watch how much you drink of it!  If you love coffee, tea, etc., then monitor what time of the day you have it.
  • Hide your clock.  When I can’t sleep, I often get frustrated when I watch the time get later and later.  Turn your clock around or shut off your phone!  That way you won’t be tempted to sneak a peek at the clock.
  • Light a lavender candle.  Lavender is proven to be one of the most relaxing scents for your body.  Lighting a candle or spraying a lavender scent around your room before you go to bed is extremely calming!
  • Focus on your breathing.  Focusing on one thing can take your mind off the fact that you can’t fall asleep.  Focus on keeping slow and steady breaths!
  • Picture yourself in your favorite setting.  Whether that be at the beach or surrounded by your friends and family, focusing on your happy place will help calm any nerves or anxious thoughts you may be having.

Hopefully these help you get a little more sleep to keep you energized during the busy weeks ahead. I know I need it!

For me, getting out of bed is a chore.  I can hit my snooze button again and again before I force myself to actually start my day.  If you’re a morning person, you might find it easy to hop out of bed, but for those who aren’t morning people, you could use a few tips on how to make getting out of bed an easy part of your day!

  1. Turn the temperature up in your room.Chelsea Crockett - Staying in Bed  I know for me, it’s so much harder to get out from under my warm blankets when my room is freezing cold.  Turn up the thermostat to make it easier on your body.
  2. Prepare a good breakfast to look forward to.  I’m much more willing to get out of bed when I know I have a delicious meal ahead.  I love food, so this acts as a little reward or motivator!
  3. Switch up your morning routine.  It’s hard getting out of bed when you know you have the same boring routine to go through.  Switch it up a little!  Maybe change breakfast meals or workout in the morning instead of after school.
  4. Go to sleep earlier.  This may seem like common sense, but getting a good amount of sleep will make you feel more alive in the morning!
  5. Open up your blinds or curtains.  This might seem like the last thing you want to do, but if your room is pitch-black, you’ll never want to get out of bed!

I hope this makes your mornings a little less dreadful!

If you’re like me, then your morning and nightly face routine mas multiple steps.  Of course, nothing comes easy when it comes to getting your face prepared for makeup or sleep!  If you put on more than one product, it’s important to put them on in the right order.  I know it can be easy to throw everything on at once, but you’ll start to notice a different when applied properly!Chelsea Crockett- face products

Serum is best used as the base.  It’s a sort of primer for other products to come.  If you use spot treatment, put that on next and rub it in very well.  Then, you can apply all over treatment.  Continue with your normal moisturizer, letting it dry fully.  End the process by applying SPF.  This step is so important for healthy, youthful skin!

For your nightly routine, begin with serum, retinol, or any prescription products given.  After, apply targeted treatments such as rich eye cream for dark circles.  End the whole process with moisturizer and hit the hay!

It may seem like a process, but it’ll be so worth it once you start seeing results!

XOXO,

Chelsea

Is There A Correct Time To Shower?!

Everyone is made differently and everybody’s bodies react to germs, the outdoors, and other factors differently as well.  The way your body reacts can give you an indication of when the right time to shower is for you.  It’s all about feeling your best and cleanest at all times!

You should take morning showers if….

  • You’re okay with waking up early. A morning shower is a great way to help wake you up and get your day started!
  • You’re a night sweater.  If you tend to sweat in your sleep, it’s easy to wake up feeling gross.  A morning shower can take that gross feeling away real quick!
  • You’re in a fairly clean environment.  An argument to showering at night is that it’s healthy to get off all the germs before you go to bed.  If you have a day with low activity, showering in the morning is just fine!

You should take night showers if…

  • You like to feel clean before going to bed!
  • You’ve been outside all day or in an unclean environment.
  • It helps you relax.
  • You have dry skin.  This way, you can lather your clean body with heavy moisturizer and lotion before going to bed.

Whether you shower in the morning or at night, always be sure to take your makeup off before you go to sleep!  This way, your pores don’t have a chance to absorb extra dirt!

Chelsea Crockett- yogurtEveryone struggles with the midnight munchies. It’s so typical for me in be cuddled in bed and then feel my stomach rumble.  Sometimes I can’t tell if I’m actually hungry or just bored….either way, I usually find myself in the kitchen.  When you’re trying to eat healthy, that midnight snack can really get ya!  Lucky for you, I’ve come up with the perfect midnight snack substitutes for whatever you’re craving!

  • If you’re craving ice cream, try a yogurt instead. If that doesn’t satisfy your sweet tooth enough, try adding granola, berries, dried fruit, or a few candy pieces to the yogurt.
  • If you’re craving something salty, throw in a small bag of popcorn. The saltiness and crunchiness with kick that craving to the curb!
  • If you need some chocolate in your life, go for a small piece of 60% or higher dark chocolate. Each square contains a small about of sugar and is even full of antioxidants!
  • If you’re craving pie, try cutting up an apple and sprinkling some cinnamon and sugar on it. It’s like the pie without the crust! You can even warm it up!
  • If Mexican food is what you’re stomach wants, grab some tortilla chips and salsa or guacamole.
  • If you feel like you need a second meal, AKA you’re very hungry, I suggest making a small turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread. Turkey contains an amino acid that actually promotes sleep.

Next time you hear your stomach calling for help, don’t ignore it! Instead, try one of these healthier alternatives and crawl back into bed!

Chelsea Crockett - Maroon and White OutfitFootball is in full swing at our high school and between the loud cheers and touchdowns, we all want to be looking super cute for the games!  Of course, it’s fun to wear school t-shirts or sweatshirts… but why not have a little fun and dress up a bit? I have to let you in on a little secret! Whenever I’m struggling to decide what to wear, I search Pinterest!  Here’s the catch: If your school colors are maroon and white, go onto Pinterest and search “maroon casual outfit.” Or if your school colors are gold and blue, then search “gold and blue casual outfit.” For something as simple as that, it’s amazing what you will find!

Recently, I searched my school colors and found everything from colored patterned scarves to stylish colored jeans and sweaters.  The outfits are fashionable and trendy, but not too over-the-top. Remember, it is just a football game!  They help me to reinvent some old clothes that I might have in my closet as well.  Sometimes my friends and I get together and switch out our clothes. It’s fun to borrow, share, and design new looks together with the help of Pinterest.  With all of that said, let me know how you use Pinterest to help style your look!

Mosquitoes. One of the most annoying types of insects on the planet. Summer nights are the most vulnerable times for these bugs and they don’t miss an opportunity to make you miserable! First they bite you and then you find yourself itching for days! I have discovered a few ways to prevent mosquitoes before they get to your skin other than the usual bug sprays. If they sneak their way to you anyways, I also have a few ways to help soothe your bites!

Chelsea Crockett - OFF SprayPreventing mosquitoes from hovering around you is not as hard as you think. If you have a bottle of mint mouth wash, put it in a spray bottle and spray around wherever you and your friends are hanging out outside. This remedy has been used for years and still continues to work! Another way is to rub dryer sheets on your exposed skin. The mosquitoes hate the smell of dryer sheets, so make sure you smell plenty like them and they’ll stay away!  The other obvious solution is OFF! spray which you can purchase here!

Since mosquitoes are pretty sneaky, they might make their way onto your skin anyways. If they do, there are a few ways to help soothe the bite. You can use the obvious itching creams and medicines if you’d like, but if you are dying at home without any, I have a few home remedies instead. Dabbing rubbing alcohol on your bite always works, although it may burn a little. Another way is to rub Listerine on your bite. It contains an ingredient that cools the itch and provides some relief! Lastly, you can take an ice pack and leave it sit on the bite for 10-15 minutes. It numbs the bite and stops the itching!

Next time you’re outside, play it safe and use these tips!

Hey everyone!  Because the weather is so nice during this season, it’s perfect for outside activities.  Water parks, camping, and swimming are all perfect things to do during a hot, sunny day in the summer.  One thing you may have not thought of is the drive-in.

If you have a drive-in near you, it’s a perfect summer way to see that new movie you’ve been wanting to see.  Whether it’s with your family or your best friends, it’s a fun way to see the film.  My favorite thing about the drive-in is bringing a bunch of snacks for you and your guests to enjoy!  Popcorn, candy, and soda are perfectWink.Chelsea Crockett - Drive-In

Maybe you can’t access a drive-in near you, but that’s okay!  There’s another creative way to spend your night!  If you take a projector and set it up facing a solid wall or possibly your garage you’ve made your own drive-in movie theater!  You can set out a few blankets or chairs and have a movie night right in your own yard!  Perfect!
