This world can wear you down. Between classes, jobs, practices, homework, etc. life can get pretty hectic. Think of what your day-to-day schedule looks like. I know for me, free time is limited and there’s barely time for myself at the end of the day.

God talks about the important of rest in the Bible several times. Minimizing the madness around you isn’t just a suggestion, it’s a necessity. The busyness of life can get in the way of more important things, especially your relationship with God if you let it.

If you feel like you’re moving at a million miles an hour, I encourage you to go straight to the Lord. He is our source of peace, security, comfort, and so much more than we could ever imagine. Look at the passage from Matthew below.

Matthew 11:28-30 says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give your rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

This passage always gives me an overwhelming sense of peace. God desires to minimize the madness for us and surrender our control to him. He says to come to him, it’s as simple as that. The madness and busyness of life can make you feel heavy and defeated, but the warmth and presence of God does just the opposite.

Sometimes it takes swallowing your pride and realizing you can’t do it all. A lot of shutting down the busyness in life requires intention and a conscious effort to change your mindset. Resting is something not a lot of us like to do or make the time for, but it is so important.

When was the last time you really gave yourself time to relax and focus on what’s important? When was the last time you neglected your other responsibilities to prioritize your relationship with God? When was the last time you said no to a social event, a night out, etc. to allow yourself time to rest?

I try to ask myself these questions often. I force myself to think realistically about how I actually spend my time, not how I think I spend my time. I can be quick to think I balance my day quite easily, but I sometimes have to take a step back and reevaluate my schedule. I encourage you to do the same to see which areas you could spend more time in and the areas you could devote less time to.

Sit down with God this week and ask him for help, guidance, and rest. You won’t experience that peace you receive from minimizing the madness until you do so. Make it a priority instead of putting it on the backburner. You’ll not only find quiet in the madness but get closer to God in the process!

How often do you step back and give yourself some “me” time?  Don’t get me wrong, I love being with my friends and fam, but sometimes it feels good to be independent and spend some time with numero uno. Time alone is a great way to reconnect with yourself, de-stress, and feel refreshed. Here are 5 fun things you can do on your own to treat yo self!

  1. Take yourself on a date: Is there a restaurant where you live that you have always wanted to go to eat but have never gotten the chance? Take yourself! Treat yourself to a nice meal, take as long as you want, order whatever you want, you don’t have anyone to worry about or impress! Bring a good book and enjoy yourself.
  2. Take a loooong bath: Grab a good book, light a few candles, grab some bubble bath and a bath bomb, and hop in the tub. Take the longest bath you want and enjoy uninterrupted bliss.
  3. Lose yourself in a bookstore: There are so many cute bookstores out there, small ones with lots of personality or big ones with lots of choices! Get lost in the shelves and find a book that you love.
  4. Have a spa day: Go get a massage, or save some cash and do an at-home spa day. Grab a face mask and hair mask from Walmart and pamper yourself DIY style.
  5. Complete projects you’ve put off: Speaking of DIY, finish those projects you’ve been putting off so that you don’t have to worry about them anymore. Whether it is finishing homework, updating your resume, finishing a DIY craft, whatever it may be, finish it! You will feel accomplished and productive, plus you reap the benefits of the finished project!

Treat yo-self to some “me” time every once in a while. It is good for the soul!

XOXO, Chels

Beat the Winter Blues!

Hi Insiders,

Many people hate the winter.  Cold winds, icy roads, and gloomy days are the cause of a bad mood in the winter.  So how can you keep your spirits high in the winter?!  Follow a few of my simple tips to kick away the winter blues.

  1. Keep the smell of peppermint around!  Studies show that the smell of peppermint can increase mood and decrease stress.  Try lighting a peppermint scented candle or rub some peppermint oil around your nose.
  2. Get some sunlight!  Yes, it might be cold, but on sunny days go outside!  Buddle up and go for a walk!
  3. Eat healthy.  Winter includes Thanksgiving and Christmas, which means lots and lots of food.  The average person gains 5 to 6 pounds during the holiday months.  Weight gain can lead to a decrease in mood.  Try to fill up on fruits and veggies.  Your body will thank you!
  4. Treat yourself!  Go get a pedicure or massage, spend your Christmas money and gift cards, or go out for a fancy dinner.  Make yourself feel good!
  5. RELAX!!!
  6. Get enough sleep at night.  When you get around 8 hours of sleep, you are more likely to be energized and happier the next day.  Jump in bed early!
  7. Exercise!  Exercising releases endorphins, hormones in the body that make you feel good and lifts your mood.
  8. Do something good for someone else!  The holidays are all about giving.  Volunteer at a shelter or make your parents a homemade presentChelsea Crockett- peppermint.  They will love it!

Don’t let the cold weather and gloomy days keep you down!  Get out, get up, and do something!  I promise, if you follow these tips, you’ll have the best winter ever!

Love,

            Chelsea
