I was browsing Pinterest the other day when I came across an awesome new way to study the Bible from TheFelcitybee.com called the “W.O.R.D” method. I am always searching for new and fresh ways to dive into the Word. So, why not use the “W.O.R.D”?

  1. W: Write. While doing your daily Bible reading or studying, write down your daily verse or main point in a journal. Reading over the passage once you write it down will help you commit it to memory. Proverbs 3:1-3 says “…But let your heart keep my commands; for length of days and long life and peace they will add to you. Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.”
  2. O: Observe. Observe the keys to the passage you are reading and studying. This will help you understand what you are reading. One way to do this is to ask yourself the “five W’s” which are: Who (who is the author of the passage, who are they writing about, and who are they writing to), What (what type of story is this), When (when was the book written), Where (Where was the book written), and Why (why did the author write the book).
  3. R: Relevant. Ask yourself how this verse is relevant and applicable to your life today. How can you make this passage personal? How can you apply it to your daily life? Does this passage instruct, encourage, or correct? What changes in your life does this verse encourage you to make?
  4. D: Declare. Pray and declare the scripture over your life. In this last step, you pray the scripture that you have been studying over your life. Declare the changes you are going to make as a result of the verses you study. Pray that you are encouraged and learn as you strengthen your walk with the Lord.

As you go through the W.O.R.D method, keep your heart and your eyes open to what the Lord is trying to tell you. I am always a big fan of study methods like this one because they keep you focused and give you specific tasks. It is like a road map for studying the Bible!

When you have a roommate, you start to notice every little detail about them.  You know their pet peeves, their cleaning habits, their unique characteristics… literally everything!  Sometimes you leave the year as best friends, other times you leave wanting nothing to do with one another.  If you’ve had a roommate, you’ll understand these 5 struggles!

  • Walking in the room and she’s wearing your clothes.  This can either be something to laugh at or one of the biggest triggers for an argument!  It actually happens so much more than you think it would.
  • Hitting the snooze button over… and over… and over again.  If you’re this roommate, then come up with some different ways to force yourself out of bed.  If it’s the other way around, this can drive you absolutely crazy!
  • Having lots of friends over when you’re trying to study.  Ugh, this is the worst!  You may want them to stay because it’s so much more fun than doing homework, right?  But when you get that test grade back, you may think differently!
  • An hour after you clean and the room’s already a disaster again.  I’m sure both of you can take a little bit of the blame on this one, but it’s usually pretty one sided!  It may help to pair yourself up with someone who’s just as organized as you are.
  • Trying to get ready at the same time.  As girls, this can be super fun or super hard.  It seems like you always need to shower at the same time, use the blow dryer at the same time, etc.  Come up with a game plan to eliminate this problem!

What other struggles did you face with your roommate?  Share with me below! 🙂

Believe it or not, final exams are just around the corner! What is your studying game plan? To succeed you need to have a plan of attack. Here are the measures I take to make sure I am prepared to dominate my midterms, or any sort of exams for that matter!

  1. Dress for success: Keep it cozy. There is nothing more distracting that an itchy sweater or too-tight pants. I always opt for comfortable combo like yoga pants and cozy over sized sweater. When you are studying, you want to be comfortable.
  2. Put away distractions: Silence your phone, turn off the radio or TV, let yourself study in silence!
  3. Snack healthy: Prepare yourself for studying by snacking on things that give you healthy energy and keep you fuller longer.
  4. Take breaks: Experts say that if you get up and walk around every hour you are studying it helps you concentrate more. During your hour break, give yourself a reward like 5 minutes on social media.
  5. DON’T CRAM: Do not not NOT cram the night before a test! Study in bits the week before the exam. It will help you feel more prepared and less panicked!

Good luck, you will kill those exams!

Finals week is one of the most stressful weeks of the semester.  Whether you’re in high school or college, we all dread the finals study guides, study sessions, and finally the tests.  There are a few things to keep in mind during the week that can help you stay positive, and most importantly ace your tests to end the semester on a good note!

  • Don’t study too much.  Studying too much especially the night before can cause you to burn out on all the information you’re trying to retain.  Studies have even show that studying till early hours in the morning isn’t effective and leaves you exhausted for your test the next day!Chelsea Crockett - Finals
  • Treat yourself!  If you don’t allow yourself breaks during your study time, then you won’t last very long!  Treat yourself to a break every 30 minutes to an hour.
  • Sleep is important!  I’ve realized that when I don’t get enough sleep, all my motivation goes away.  Sleep is almost just as important as studying for doing well on your test!
  • Your grades don’t define you.  When it comes down to it, your final grade probably won’t make or break your entire semester.  Just know that whatever grade you get back doesn’t define you!  It probably won’t matter that much in a year anyways.

What tips do you live by during finals crunch time?  Share with me below!

Social media can be addicting.  Always wanting to stay up to date with what everyone is doing can become routine!  I sometimes find myself having trouble putting my phone down during homework or studying, so… I came up with a few tips on how to block out social media when you need to get the job done!

  • First off, start simple.  If you know you can’t stay off your phone, then turn it off or put it in another room! Chelsea Crockett - Social Media Addict That way you won’t even see your phone light up or feel it vibrate.  It’s a simple solution and you wind up distraction free!
  • If you like to check your social media on a computer or laptop, then I highly recommend you check out this website if you get distracted easily when studying.  I know I’ve mentioned this in another article, but KeepMeOut.com blocks you from any website you tell it to!  You can also pick the amount of time it’ll lock you out for which is really cool!
  • Put your phone on “do not disturb” so your phone isn’t constantly vibrating or going off every time you get an Instagram like or Twitter notification!
  • If you really can’t keep your hands off your phone, set a timer that goes off every 30 minutes, hour, etc.  When the timer goes off, treat yourself by checking your phone but limit yourself to only so much time!

What study tips do you have for me?  Let me know below, I could use them!

As the school year approaches, most of us are dreading getting back into the routine of waking up early, homework, and much more.  There are certain tips and hacks that will help you get back into the swing of things but will also help you throughout the entire school year.  I know it can get hard!  That being said, here are some hacks from yours truly!

For the first week:

  • Plan exciting breakfasts for you to look forward to.  Chelsea Crockett - School OutfitI know if I have my favorite breakfast in my kitchen with some good coffee to chow down the next morning, I’ll be much happier to get out of bed!  It doesn’t make waking up such a dread!
  • Plan your outfits the night before.  It will save you the time and stress of picking it out while you’re rushing to get ready!  Hang it up so it stays unwrinkled throughout the night.
  • If you’re not 100% confident on knowing your new class schedule, make it your phone’s lock screen.  That way it’s accessible for a quick look.

For the whole year:

  • Studying can get old really fast, especially toward the end of the semester.  Try the tip of studying for 25 minutes then a 5-minute break.  And every third break take an extra 15 minutes!  This will give your brain a little rest so you don’t burn out!
  • When writing an important essay, it’s easy to miss the little typos and grammar issues.  Copy and paste your essay into Google translate and it can read it to you out loud!  It’s much easier to hear your mistakes when listening to it.

I hope these help you out and I wish you a great start to your new school year!

Love, Chelsea

Late Night Study Sesh Stress Relievers

Do you ever have one of those nights where you’re up past midnight and on the edge of a breakdown? Most of you in high school know what I’m talking about!  Late night homework sessions are the worst and can build up endless amounts of stress. I put together some tips to help you relax in your crunch times!

  • Lavender scents are some of my favorites. They’re so relaxing and are scientifically proven to relieve stress. I prefer burning a lavender candle next to where I’m working. Try it out!
  • I’m all about living a healthy lifestyle, but sometimes stress calls for a nice helping of your favorite ice cream! Use it for some motivation or a reward for getting all of your assignments done. Chelsea Crockett - Hot Tea
  • If you’re up late studying, let your mind rest by going to sleep and waking up earlier than you normally do. This way you can still get your studying in and give your brain a break for a little while.
  • While you’re working, make yourself a hot drink to sip on. I suggest a hot cup of tea, either black or green. This will give you a little caffeine to get you through the long hours. It’s also super soothing, too!

What advice would you give someone for late night study sessions? Leave a comment below!

Studying requires one very important resource. Two words. Power snack. What else can motivate you to plow through those 4 pages of geometry homework? Whether I am studying or editing, I always need a trusty power snack by my side to keep my brain and body fueled. Here are a few of my favs!

  1. Frozen yogurt blueberries: These bite size treats are perfect because they are easy to pop in your mouth and are totally tasty.study HERE is the recipe!
  2. Toasted pumpkin seeds: Fall = pumpkins. Pumpkins = an abundance of pumpkin seeds. Pumpkin seeds are packed with zinc and boost memory, which just miiiiight give you a bit of a test-cramming advantage. 😉 HERE is the recipe.
  3. Veggies and hummus: I have recently rediscovered my love for hummus. I love dipping baby grape tomatoes and carrots in my hummus! This snack is high in protein so it will give you energy for hours.
  4. Banana hotdogs: Take a wheat tortilla, coat it with almond butter, and wrap a banana inside of it! This snack is easy to transport if you need to take it on the go to the library or a friend’s house for a study sesh, plus the bananas pack lots of energy-boosting carbohydrates!

Like I said earlier, is there any better study motivation than tasty snacks? My guess is no. 😉

Studying is one of my least favorite things. Don’t you wish you could just go to sleep and wake up a genius? I have picked up a few really great study tactics over the years and just thought I would share them! Sometimes switching up your studying routine can really benefit you!

Have you ever heard that certain smells can trigger your memory? They say that your sense of smell is the strongest sense in your body. That is _6638836why researchers say that if you put on scented lotion before you study and continue smelling it as you study, and then put on that same lotion before you take your test, the smell can help you remember everything you studied! I tried this out and was surprised to see that it actually helped!

Do any of you stay up late the night before a test, and then study even more in the morning right before the exam? Researchers say that that is the worst thing you can do for your memory! Avoid studying 12 hours before the test. Why? Give your brain a break! If you are trying to cram all of that information into your head right before the test, you are less likely to remember it because your brain is tired! I kid you not! You should study a little bit each day before the test, and then give your brain a break the night and morning before your test.

I believe in you, my intellectual Insiders!
