Concealer is one of the best beauty tools in the world.  You can hide your tiredness by disguising dark circles or conceal stubborn pimples that won’t go away.  It color corrects, brightens, and evens out your skin to give you the perfect foundation for a beautiful face of makeup.  With that being said, we should know what we’re doing wrong with our concealer to guarantee that we’re making the most out of our product!

  1. Rubbing in your concealer with your finger.Chelsea Crockett - Naked Concealer  It may be gross to think about, but our fingers are covered in dirt, oil, and lots of bacteria.  Our fingers also don’t absorb any of our concealer like a beauty blender would which leaves it feeling caked on.  A beauty blender will blend it evenly and leave you without creases or streaks!
  2. Using the same concealer for all your blemishes, dark circles, etc.  Although this isn’t necessarily the wrong way of doing it, you can get much better coverage by using differently textured concealers.  For dark circles, try using a thicker concealer such as a cream based one.  As for pimples, try using a light, liquid concealer!
  3. Applying your concealer first as your base.  Although you may be anxious to cover up those zits as soon as you wake up, you won’t get your best coverage by starting with concealer.  Apply your foundation first, then apply your concealer!

What mistake are you making?  Now you know what to change when it comes to applying concealer!

My favorite thing about finding new beauty tricks is all the different everyday tools and gadgets that can be used as a substitute when applying makeup!  I read an article that told me all about the different kitchen gadgets that can be a hack for putting on makeup, they sometimes even work better than real beauty tools.  Here are a few gadgets to expand your beauty tool collection! 🙂

  • A spoon.  Spoons provide several different tricks and hacks that can make applying your makeup much easier.  One of which is lining up the curve of the spoon to create the perfect winged eyeliner.  The second is putting the spoon under your bottom eyelashes to catch any excess mascara when applying it!
  • A fork.Chelsea Crockett - Fork Hack  I recently saw this hack and thought I’d give it a try.  It really does help when it comes to contouring!  Place the middle prong of the fork on the center of your nose.  Then, take your darker color you’re using to contour and fill in on each side of the prong.  This will set up the perfect lines to fill in and leave your nose with the perfect contour!
  • Dish soap.  Take a ¼ cup of dish soap, a ¼ cup of olive oil, and a spoonful of coconut oil, and mix it together.  This mixture will create the perfect makeup brush cleaner that will thoroughly clean any of your tools without wasting money on expensive, name-brand makeup cleaners!

Which kitchen gadget are you going to try out?  Let me know how it works for you!

Heated Beauty Tools 101: How to Protect Your Hair

When it comes to blow dryers, hair straighteners, and curling irons, I can guarantee that every one of us have used at least one of those beauty tools before!  After we get out of the shower, before we go to school, and for lots of other occasions we usually apply heat to our hair in a number of different ways.  That being said, here is a quick guide on how to protect our hair from too much heat exposure!

Chelsea Crockett - Hair StraightenerHair Straightener:  If your hair is pretty sensitive to heat, pick a straightener that lets you pick your heat setting.  Most will allow you to turn the heat up or down in case it’s too hot or not hot enough.  If your hair is thin, I suggest lowering the heat to prevent your hair from getting burnt or damaged.  If you have thick hair, don’t be afraid to boost it up in order to achieve the sleek look you’re going for!

Curling Iron/Wand: There are a few things to consider when picking your perfect curler.  Decide if you want a simple 1-inch wand or a 2-inch curling iron that has a clamp.  Make sure you pick one that allows you to adjust your heat setting instead of relying on the amount of time you spend holding your hair to the tool or under the clamp.  This can cause the most damage without you realizing it!

Blow Dryer:  Most blow dryers will have a setting to adjust the speed and temperature of the air.  With this heated beauty tool, there isn’t much to consider since you’ll have to get the job done one way or another!

Do you have any other tips you think I should know?  Let me know below!

Whether you’re living in a dorm, apartment, or you’re still at home, everyone can use a little more space when it comes to bathroom storage.  Especially if you’re in college, living the dorm life can leave you with minimal bathroom space.  I came up with a few DIYs you can use when it comes to bathroom storage that are both cute and helpful… That way, you get the best of both worlds!

  • DIY Mason Jars.  Mason jars are some of my favorite things to use as organizers.  They give off a vintage feel and you can decorate them to match your room, bathroom, etc.  You can use paint and fun tape to customize them yourself!  Chelsea Crockett - Magnetic Organizer
  • Multiple Hook Towel Rack.  When there’s only one or two hooks to hang your towels on, you can run into some trouble, especially if you share a bathroom with others.  Get a rack to mount on your wall or door to keep each other’s towels apart and dry!
  • Plastic containers.  Don’t underestimate the power of plastic containers!  There are tons of different plastic bins and containers to separate and organize your bathroom stuff in.  You can even purchase stackable ones and label whose is whose!
  • Wall cup organizer.  Organizers like the featured image above are super handy and not to mention so cute!  I suggest using your walls to your advantage.  Only storing things in your bathroom drawers or cabinets can get cluttered and unorganized!
  • Magnetic organizers.  These things are lifechanging and I didn’t even know they existed!  The picture on the right shows different magnetic organizers you can mount on your wall.  They make it easy to keep things separated and easy to find!

I hope these help you organize your bathroom better!

Which Beauty Tools Should You Be Throwing Out?

If you’re like me, you probably have more beauty tools in your room than you can count.  I had no idea that there are certain tools that needed to be replaced after so many days or weeks.  I wanted to tell you guys which beauty tools should be swapped out to avoid bacteria buildup to get all that you can out of your tool!

  • Eyelash curlers.  Believe it or not, but eyelash curlers collect a lot of bacteria whether it be from your eyes or makeup buildup.  This can lead to eye infections!  I suggest using a cleanser and hot water to clear off the buildup.Chelsea Crockett - Beauty Tools
  • Loofahs.  With loofahs constantly being exposed to water and left soaking to dry, bacteria likes to grow in the moist environment!  Make sure you wring out all the excess water from it after your shower.  I recommend getting a new one every month or so as well!
  • Beauty Blenders.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… clean your foundation tools!  Whether you use your blender for foundation, concealer, etc., make sure you clean it thoroughly with a cleanser and warm water every week or so.  This way your beauty blender’s quality will last much longer.
  • Tanning mitt.  If you use a self-tanner, then your mitt is probably being used all the time.  My only advice is to rinse your mitt after each use to avoid streaky application!

Are there any tools that are missing from the list?  Let me know which tools you swap out in the comments below!

How to Properly Clean Your Beauty Tools

We’re always told to keep our beauty brushes and other tools clean and free from bacteria.  That being said, we’re not always told the best way to do so.  And if we pay $30 or more for a brush, we don’t want to ruin our high quality tools by washing them the wrong way!  Here’s a little guide on how to wash your beauty tools properly!

  • Beauty Blender/Beauty Sponge.  Any tool that has a spongey texture to it can be tough to clean, especially because they hold so much moisture.  Not only do you need to run it under water, but pick a cleansing solution to use as well.  Squeeze your beauty blender gently while rinsing it with water but also adding in the cleansing solution.  Chelsea Crockett - Cleaning BrushesThis will help clean out any bacteria or makeup deep into the sponge.  Make sure you are being gentle or else it could mess up your blender!
  • Eyelash Curler.  It may’ve never crossed your mind, but eyelash curlers actually have a large amount of buildup from mascara, eyeliner, etc.  If you’ve ever tried cleaning it before, then you know it’s not the easiest thing to do!  Either heat it up with a lighter or soak it in hot water.  If you start this way, the makeup will slide right off when you use a tissue, cotton, etc.
  • Foundation Brush.  For cleaning brushes, make sure you use a cheap cleanser or one that you don’t use anymore.  Any type of cleanser will make for the perfect soap to eliminate any buildup on your brush.  Apply the cleanser and rinse your brush under warm water.  Set it flat on a paper towel instead of setting it up to dry to make sure your brush stays it original quality!

Follow these tips to keep your beauty tools clean and free from makeup buildup!

Middle parts can be tricky. You may be nervous to break away from the side part you’ve been comfortable with all your life! Middle parts represent a high fashion look that can be worn for more formal occasions, curled or straight, or for your everyday look if that’s what you prefer. Once you’re ready to give it a try, follow these simple steps!Chelsea Crockett - Taylor Hill Middle Part

  1. Get your hair used to it. It takes a while to train your hair to stay a certain way. If you’ve parted your hair on the side your whole life, it’ll take a few times to make it look natural. Definitely start by parting it the way you want it after you shower or when it’s wet.
  2. Use the right tools. By blow drying your hair after you shower, it’ll help force it to stay.
  3. Frame your face. By using a straightener, you can frame your hair around your face, whether you want it curled or straightened. This will help make it look more natural and styled!
  4. Find a style that fits your cut. Depending on the length and cut of your hair, you’ll have to find a style that looks best on you. Like the picture on the right, she used her layers to her advantage and loosely curled each piece.

Training your hair to a new style is the hardest but most important step of rocking a middle part. Once you achieve that, then you’re ready to tackle the next step!

Good luck! – Chels

In honor of Fourth of July coming up, it’s the perfect time for some American flag DIYs to help put together your red, white, and blue outfit. With Pinterest being the hub for all things DIY, I found a craft that’s simple and produces the cutest, festive results! You’ll need a few tools and materials to get started.

As far as what you need, there’s not much!Chelsea Crockett - American Flag Cuffs You’ll need a pair of jeans that can be cuffed (preferably boyfriend style or ripped), safety pins, an American flag printed material, thread, and a needle. You can either find an American flag material at a craft store or substitute something as simple as a flag bandana. After you have the right tools and materials, you’re ready to begin your DIY!

  • First things first, turn your jeans inside out.
  • Pick which piece of material you want for each cuff and use safety pins to attach the fabric to the jeans.
  • Then, like the picture above, use the thread and needle to sow the material on!
  • Turn your jeans right-side out to enjoy your new patriotic pants!

It’s as easy as that! I can’t wait to see how yours turned out this holiday!

Many of us are guilty of spending hundreds of dollars on hair styling products. Brands such as Chi can charge over a hundred dollars for a single straightener… Yikes! There are hundreds of different brands that offer the same types of products, but do they work just as well? Or is it worth the splurge?Chelsea Crockett - Hair Styling Tools I’m here to answer your questions!

Don’t get me wrong, the brand Chi offers amazing hair products. Their prices may be high, but their quality is worth it. They’re long-lasting and work really well on all different types of hair. That being said, there are many other brands that have the same effect as the higher quality products. When you’re shopping for a new straightener or curler, it’s hard to know which product you’re getting the best deal on based off the box or price. I suggest reading up on reviews and ratings before buying! They’re usually pretty accurate and can save you time and money!

As for styling products such as gels and oils, the same rules can be applied. One product that comes to mind is Moroccan Oil which can be pretty pricey. Argon oil from Target works almost just as well and is much more reasonably priced! You have to read up on different reviews of products to see if they’re worth the money!

Taking time out of your busy schedule to spend quiet time with God can be difficult. I know how busy life can be, but simply finding time to stop and sit down with a Bible will pay off big time. I know I’m not the only one whose mind starts to wander while praying or reading a devotional. I’ve learned a new method that makes me get 10x more out of my daily quiet time, and I encourage you to try it, too!

First comes first, you need the right tooChelsea Crockett - Journalingls. You also need to know which style of note taking you want to use. For me, I like underlining words or verses that stick out to me. Others like to use highlighters to do this. Whatever you prefer! You also need a pen or pencil to write notes and comments on the side.

Second, you need to understand what Bible journaling is. You don’t have to mark something on every page or worry about how nice your notes look. Let it be messy, it should be what speaks to you. If you like to doodle, use markers to create something like the picture on the left. If you’re looking for a Bible simply for journaling, they sell Bibles with extra wide margins with space to write your notes in! How perfect is that?

You can also buy sticker Post-It bookmarks to remind you where you left off or where a certain story or verse stuck out to you. I encourage you to get started and spend some quiet time with God!

Love, Chels

Must-Have Makeup Correcting Tools

Knowing what products compliment your face best and how you should apply them can sometimes be a tricky task. Most girls don’t have time to sit and redo their makeup 5 times till they get it perfect (I’m one of those girls!). Luckily, brands have made it easier to correct your makeup mistakes. Here are three of my favorites!

  • Eyeliner Correcting Pen.Chelsea Crockett - Color Correctors If you have yet to master the art of eyeliner, this pen is soon to be your best friend. Wings are probably the hardest to achieve, and this pen lets you erase and clean up any unwanted lines or smudges! My favorite kind is Hard Candy’s Oopsy-Proof Liner (which you can pick up at Walmart!). E.l.f. also offers a Makeup Remover Pen which can work just as well!
  • Color Correcting Concealers. These products are so cool! If you’ve never used these before, they’re basically concealers in various colors that cancel out redness, breakouts, etc. and correct your skin! For example, you can use the green color correcting stick to neutralize any redness on your skin, perhaps from breakouts or an annoying pimple. If you’re a little skeptical, try them out for yourself! I’m obsessed!
  • Makeup Remover Pads. If you ever mess up on your contour, eyeshadow, eyeliner, etc., one swipe of a makeup remover pad and you can start the process over again!

I hope these products help you perfect your daily makeup routine!
