People love to jump to conclusions about God and the Bible. They make assumptions about who God is and the meaning behind different scriptures and verses.

But the truth is, there is so much more joy, knowledge, and certainty behind Christianity that so many people don’t know about. I’m here to break some of the well-known “myths” that often revolve around God, his love for us, and what the Bible really means.

MYTH: The Bible was written thousands of years ago so it doesn’t apply today.

TRUTH: Although the Bible is a historic book written years and years ago, we, as Christians, still use it as a compass and tool today and for the days to come. God didn’t intend for the Bible to be forgotten about or not taken as seriously in the present day. If we believe that God is all-knowing, of the past, present, and future, then we should also believe that he knew the Bible would still be used today and for all the days to come. Lean on its word and believe the truth that’s inside!

MYTH: Being a Christian means you lose the freedom to do what you want to do, when you want to do it.

TRUTH:
People often think that God gives us rules to live by to take away our “fun” or our freedom. This is the furthest from the truth. God gives us a set of rules to live by because he knows what’s best for us. When we do life God’s way, we discover his truth and the joy that comes along with it. Try it for yourself!

MYTH: Prayer doesn’t really make a difference.

TRUTH: Prayer is powerful! It truly does make a difference. Without prayer, we have no way to sit and have a conversation with God.

1 John 5:14-15 says, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him.”

We know that prayer makes a difference because it says so numerous times throughout the Bible. We can have the confidence in knowing that God really does hear us and desires the best for us. If you believe in scripture, then it is so clear that God uses prayer as a gateway to hear our requests and praises, and point us in the direction he wants us to go.

MYTH: It’s hard to believe in a God you can’t see.

TRUTH: 1 Peter 1:8 says, “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.” Sometimes it can be hard when we can’t directly hear God’s voice or see that he’s right beside us, but I promise you he always is! He is constant, present, and knows our innermost being. He’s our heavenly father that gave so much for us so we could live our days freely in his everlasting presence! Try leaning on him and you’ll start to feel the warmth and love of Christ all around you.

Don’t always jump to conclusions or assume what you hear about God and the Bible is true. Dive into his word and discover the truth for yourself! 🙂

You Say This, God Says That

Throughout life, we love to feed off of the thoughts and lies we tell ourselves in our head over and over again. “I can’t do it.” “I’m not worth it.” “No one loves me.” Sound familiar?

We love telling ourselves lies that linger in our head and tear us down. These thoughts are thoughts of the world that society loves to tell us. It’s easy for a thought like this to repeat in our heads when we’re feeling down in the first place. God never wants us to feel the pain of feeling like we’re alone and not enough. There are so many things that we say that God proves false.

“I can’t do it.” –> “You can do all things through me.”

We all have our struggles and times when we think we can’t keep going. It’s human nature to want to give up on something when it becomes too hard, whatever it may be. God wants us to know that through him, anything is possible.

Matthew 19:26 says, “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’” There are so many things that have occurred in my life that I can attribute 100% to God. I know that so many of my circumstances are because they appeared through God and in God. So please, don’t give up just yet! God is working without you even realizing it.

“I’m all alone.” –> “I am always with you.”

The world does a good job at making us feel lonely and afraid. While friends and even family can leave you all alone, God never leaves your side.

Isaiah 41:10 says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Not only is he with us always, but he gives us the strength and power to get us through each and every day. Talk to him and lean on his guidance. You’ll realize you aren’t as alone as you think you are.

“No one loves me.” –> “I love you unconditionally.”

How much does God love us? An incomprehensible amount.

We, as humans, can’t even feel the amount of love that God has for us. He is the perfect, caring father that loves each and every one of us unconditionally.

Romans 8:38-39 says, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

This verse reassures me of God’s love every time I feel like it starts to fade. God’s love never fades! Nothing can separate us from Him and how much he cares for us. He is the most loving a father could possibly be!

Next time one of these thoughts pops into your head, remember the truth of who God is. He is loving, caring, honest, trustworthy, and so many other things. Now it’s up to you to believe that!

We all grow up thinking about what happens to us after we die. A lot of people I grew up with believed in heaven, but started to question it the older they got.

How good can it be? Will it be similar to our lives now? Will there actually be angels flying all around? There are so many misconceptions and doubts about what heaven is actually like.

Although we’ll never actually know the wonder of heaven until we get there, God gives us several hints throughout the Bible. I like to call these the “sneak peeks” into what eternal life will look like for us.

So, let’s answer this: Is the idea of Heaven too good to be true?

No More Suffering

Revelation 21:4 gives us one of the most comforting verses of the Bible. It says, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Can you imagine waking up one day never having to feel pain or sadness again? I don’t know about you, but I don’t think there could be anything better.  This isn’t a myth, or something you read online, it’s a true promise that God gives to his people.

It Gives Us Hope

Revelation 22:5 says, “There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.”

This is the part we need to make note of.

God doesn’t say his people will reign in heaven for 10 years, 100 years, or 1,000 years. He says they will reign for ever and ever, and the Lord will give them light. He’s talking about US! How cool is it to know that God is preparing a place as amazing as this for US?

We are so undeserving but God still gives us the hope of the future and eternal life with HIM!

We Have God’s Promise

Revelation 22:6 says, “The angel said to me, ‘These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.’”

Like I mentioned before, the book of Revelation isn’t just a fictional story God wrote to entertain us, it’s a look into what we could have if we lay down our lives and follow him.

Now that you’ve read a little glimpse into heaven, you may be thinking: so how do I, a sinner undeserving of this amazing place, get there?

John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in HIM shall not perish but have eternal life.”

By simply believing in Jesus and accepting him into your life, you can experience the wonder of heaven for yourself!

Thankfully, He is always faithful and so are his promises.

Put on the Full Armor of God

“Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” – Ephesians 6:10-18

When you wake up in the morning, what is the first thing you think about?

Do you wake up wondering what you’re going to wear? Or what you’re about to eat for breakfast?  Although I consider these two questions every morning, I try to think a little deeper into my agenda for the day.

The Bible is full of many lessons and different ways to actually apply scripture to your life.

Each part of Ephesians 6:10-18 gives us steps to perfectly equip ourselves for the day ahead.

Belt of Truth

Honesty is the best policy and it will benefit you in the long run. Practice honesty in the simplest of ways, by being truthful when you’re with your friends, with your family, in class, etc.

Breastplate of Righteousness

For the longest time, I had always heard the term “righteousness” but never truly knew its meaning. Righteousness means “the quality of being morally right or justifiable” or as the Bible uses it, “following religious or moral laws.” Put on the breastplate of righteousness to be able to defend against temptation and sin throughout your day.

Gospel of Peace

Keep the Gospel with you anywhere and everywhere you go. Keep God’s word in your mind so you can have the Spirit of peace over you no matter what the day brings your way!

Shield of Faith

Your faith is one of the strongest things you have and can protect you from fear, anxiety, doubt, and so many other things. Remember to clothe yourself with the shield of faith to have a constant reminder that God is fighting your battles.

Helmet of Salvation

Knowing that we have salvation through Christ’s sacrifices for us should be our “helmet,” the thing that we can fall back on and have faith in. With the helmet of salvation, we can face the day ahead.

Sword of the Spirit

Although you can’t physically see God, you can see him fighting your day-by-day battles. Be a witness to the amazing things that the Holy Spirit is doing in your life, whether it be restoring health to a loved one or taking away the anxiety your heart constantly feels.

Wake up every day and clothe yourself with the armor of the one who beats every battle, takes away every fear, and reassures us of the life he so greatly prepared for us.

The Armor of God is something that you can’t see or touch but can feel it all around you.  It’s something that God equips us with that we can choose to put on morning by morning or completely ignore as a whole.  There are five different parts to this armor: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit.  Each part of God’s armor has a different use that clothes you with the strength to get through the day.

If you wake up morning by morning and allow God to clothe you in each of these things, you’ll be 10x stronger in battling situations.  When you’re discouraged, you can use the belt of truth and the shield of faith to remember how much God loves and cares for you.  When you’re tempted, you can use the sword of the spirit to defend yourself against Satan.  There are so many different ways to use each part of the armor of God.  He gives you each of these tools so you can battle each day by walking firmly with him!
