“Before you were born, I set you apart.” Jeremiah 1:5

Have you ever wanted something or wanted to do something so badly, and then when you finally did it you realized that it is possible you weren’t destined for that at all? For example, you may think you should be the one in front of the camera, when in reality, you should be the one working the camera. Maybe you feel the pressure to be in front of the camera because that is what others have told you, but after experiencing it yourself, realize that it is not the right fit for you.

This is because God has given each of us specific abilities, experiences, passions and talents. We are unique and there is no one out there just like you. We have been designed by the creator of the universe – and designed to do different things.

Do you look at people on Instagram and wish you were like them? Wish you looked like them, had a house like them, had a job like them, or wore the clothes they did?  Jealousy is a vicious monster. God made each of us different – and with different purposes. He set you apart from everyone else before you were even born. That is why we have to trust God’s plan for us and fight jealousy of others. He will see His purpose for your life come to pass in His own time. We must use the gifts and talents we have been given and see our differences as assets. I once saw a quote that said “We live in the past, dream of the future, and often miss today, this moment, the here and now.”

How true. We dwell on the things we don’t have instead of reveling in what we DO have. Are you using the assets God blessed you with? Have you been taking full advantage of the talents He has given you? He has set you apart. He has appointed you. Let that encourage and uplift you! The One who created the moon, the stars, the mountains and valleys, He created YOU!

Growing up, I always thought being different was a bad thing. At one point or another, we all have wanted to “fit in” and receive the approval from others whether we want to admit it or not.

The Bible brings up this topic many times throughout it. God asks us to follow him and leave the ways of the world behind, just as he had to. He not only wants us to be different, but calls us to be different. Take a look at Romans 12:2 for example.

It says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing, and perfect will.”

When we conform to the ways of the world, we lose the ways of God. By standing out and being different, people start to notice and see the change in us! When we put the ways of the world behind us, God transforms us and works wonders in our lives.

There’s a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson that I think puts it so perfectly: “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

This goes for all things in life. If no one makes their own path and leads by example, we would all just be followers, living a life of repetition and boredom.

I’ve always wanted my YouTube channel to leave my own trail and display the love of Christ through my videos. Although it’s not the normal thing you see on YouTube, I knew God was calling me for something bigger and to use my platform for others to see Him through me.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” – 1 Peter 2:9

When we consider the truth of the fact that God chose us, everything changes. God chose us to be his light in the darkness, not to hide in the shadows and take on the ways of the darkness.

If we all followed the ways of the world, we would all be the same, striving toward nothing but momentary satisfaction. When we go our own way, GOD’S way, we leave a trail that gives way for so many better things to follow.

Being different is GOOD! It allows for others to join you and make an even bigger pathway toward loving the Lord and living out his word. Next time you need some boldness and confidence, remember what Emerson says: “Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail!”

Comparison steals our joy. These days, being content with what we have and how we look is a struggle. If you ask a group of women what one of life’s biggest struggles is, the overwhelming answer will be being content and not comparing ourselves to others. Contentment is something that we can and need to learn, because we are God’s children and He made us the way we are for a reason. Comparison and envy date back as far as Rachel and Leah in the Old Testament, where in Genesis 30:1 it says “When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, she envied her sister. She said to Jacob, ‘Give me children, or I shall die!’” We not only compare whether we are as “good” as others, but also compare our struggles with others and whose hardships are “worse.” How do we put out the comparison fire that Satan lights in our hearts?

Accept your uniqueness: Think of something you are good at, and then think how long you have been working at it. Is it running? Bargain shopping? Cooking? Remember everything good in life takes work. Do you envy that a friend has lost weight and looks great? Tell her that she looks amazing, and let her inspire you to work hard as well. And remember that God designed us to be different and unique. Life would be so boring if we all looked alike, dressed alike, and had the same talents and skills.

Be happy for the strengths of others: This one sort of goes with the point above. If we aren’t careful, when we first met someone we can get sucked into comparing ourselves to them. Whether it is their physical attributes or the material things they possess, we can either make ourselves feel better or worse about ourselves based on our evaluations. It is so hard to overcome this habit. Try every day to see yourself as God sees you, and remember that comparison is selfish. See the real person behind their physical and material attributes. Consider their feelings, and work hard to compliment others from the heart. You never know, they could also be struggling with a comparison battle. You can also learn from others, and instead of making life feel like a competition, you can become a better person.

Get rid of the “me” mindset: Comparison is selfishness disguised. It has us looking at others and thinking about ourselves. We need to work to train our minds to want to impress God and not others. When we stop thinking of how others view us, we can be free from the burden that is selfishness.

Kick worldly expectations to the curb: Like I said earlier, comparison steals joy. Not only does it steal our joy, it also steals our contentment and our will to live a godly life. When we compare ourselves with others, we are not using an accurate measure. Dragging around the world’s expectations hinders us from the journey that God has in store for us. We cheat ourselves out of God’s blessings when we try to live the life we see others living. When you live your own life, and stop envying someone else’s, you see your blessings more clearly.

Let’s rejoice in our strengths, work on our weaknesses, and celebrate each other for the unique people we are!

When Mother’s Day was just around the corner, I wrote a blog post about different, unique ways you could spend that special day with your mom!  But since we’re finally in the month of Father’s Day, I thought I’d come up with a few ideas that are more centered around dads but still fun for your whole family!

  • If your dad is the typical dad that’s always down to golf, take him golfing for the day!  Chelsea Crockett - Baseball GameYou can go play a full round or even just hit up the driving range for a couple hours.  If you’re not a golfer, maybe even try taking him mini golfing.  It’s a great way to bond over something he likes to do!
  • Instead of going out to eat to celebrate, offer to help your dad grill a big dinner for your whole family!  That way, you can learn how to grill and spend time with your dad at the same time.  Sometimes just offering a helping hand can make his day!
  • Sit your dad down a week or so before Father’s Day and ask him what his ideal day would be, then make it happen!  Maybe he wants to go to a baseball game or fishing on the lake.  Whatever it is, make it happen since it’s his special day!
  • Bring out the little kid in him!  He may not say it, but it might just make his day to go camping, go-karting, etc.  Get out and be adventurous!

Which idea are you going to treat your dad to this year?  Share with me in the comments below!  Maybe my dad and I are doing the same!

Happy Father’s Day! – Chelsea

There is a new jewelry trend that I have been keeping my eye on for a while, and it is raw stone jewelry! I have been really into the “earthy” and “nature” styled look lately and this jewelry encompases both of those attributes. I love the subtle uniqueness of each stone, every piece is different! The pieces are also very simple and understated which I love. Here is how to rock this free spirited trend!

Pendants: Etsy has a TON of raw stone/crystal pendants on their site. A simple stone pendant can add character and uniqueness to any outfit. I recommend pairing a simple flowey top with a stone pendant and dark jeans with suade booties and a felt hat for a free spirited look.raw 3

Rings: These are also very popular on Etsy. If I could I would rock one of these on every finger! I love the subtle earty tone these rings add to your look. You can literally wear these with every outfit!

Crystal cuff: Crystal cuff bracelets are another way to make this trend work for you. Each one is so unique because of the stones featured on them. You can find tons of them on Etsy!

So what are your thoughts? Would YOU wear jewelry that features raw stones? I think the ring is my favorite piece. If you are looking for simple, unique, versitile accessories then raw stone jewelry is definitely for you!

XOXO, Chels

The Truth about Freckles

When you start to think about it, freckles are weird.  They’re little brown spots on our skin that have a higher concentration of melanin than the rest of our bodies.  Some have them, some don’t.  Some love the, some hate them.  Some have them in the summer, but not in the winter.  Let’s get down to the truth on these crazy little specks we call freckles.

Freckles are a beautiful thing!  They make each person unique and their own individual.  Freckles often fade in the winter and get darker in the summer due to sun exposure.  When the skin is exposed to too much sun, your skin reacts by forming specks of melanin, otherwise known as freckles.  If you notice they are appearing rapidly, it might be a good idea to stay out of the sun for a little while.  If you don’t like your summer freckles, you can help prevent them by wearing sun screen, a hat, and clothing that covers your skin.

Although freckles are typically harmless, some can turn out to be dangerous.  It’s important to know your skin!   If you notice a freckle that is oddly shaped, different in color, or keeps randomly appearing and disappearing, get it checked out by your doctor ASAP!  Better safe than sorry!  If you don’t like your freckles, remember that you are unique and that’s what makes you beautiful.  You’re one of a kind!

I love you all!

            Hello lovelies!

One of my favorite things about autumn is the fun that comes with Halloween.  You can find pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns on almost every street.  Aside from being perfect decorations for the season, carving and decorating pumpkins is a fun activity no matter what age you are!  Whether you’re carving for fun or for a decorating competition, you’re going to need unique thoughts to make your pumpkin your own!

A great idea I know girls wilChelsea Crockett - Glitter Pumpkinl love is to glitter-up your pumpkins.  Lay out a few pieces of newspaper and set out your pumpkin.  The best way to do this is to purchase a can of spray adhesive.  Spray your preferred deign on your pumpkin.  While it’s still wet, sprinkle whatever color glitter you want on the glue.  It should turn out girly, sparkly, and attention-catching!

Chelsea Crockett - Fretwork PumpkinOne idea that’s not just for the ladies, is a fretwork patterned jack-o-lantern.  An example of this, is the picture on the left.  After scooping out the seeds and insides of the pumpkin, you will be ready to go. To begin this design, take a thick piece of tape and make a ring around your pumpkin.  You’ll need to have a drill with two different sized drill bits, one large and one small.  Then, drill rows of circles around the tape creating a design you think looks best!  When your design is complete, place a votive candle inside the pumpkin and light it.

Voila!  You have a polka dotted, glowing jack-o-lantern!

I hope these ideas gave you a little originality this fall.  I can’t wait to see how yours all turned out!
