When we think about the creation of the universe, we so often forget how absolutely mind-blowing it actually is. It’s easy to forget that God created the heavens and the earth in 7 days, and that the universe was formed immediately when God spoke life into it.

When we think about the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, they are all individually here because God wanted them to be. The trees in your front yard and the clouds above you are, again, created perfectly by our heavenly father. Crazy, right?

The lyrics of one of my favorite worship songs by Hillsong United talks about the beauty of God’s creation. In the song, it says,

“If the stars were made to worship so will I

If the mountains bow in reverence so will I

If the oceans roar Your greatness so will I

For if everything exists to lift You high so will I

If the wind goes where You send it so will I

If the rocks cry out in silence so will I

If the sum of all our praises still falls shy

Then we’ll sing again a hundred billion times.”

Everything that God has created was made to display his beauty and power. The stars, the mountains, the oceans, the wind… they are all formed with distinct differences and purposes. This includes us. God created us like he created the stars in the sky. Each uniquely different, even among the other 7 billion people on this planet.

If God would take the time to make each star in the sky unique and perfect, why would he not do the same for you? Even the smallest details were perfectly hand crafted by our heavenly father himself. Pretty crazy when you think about it!

“For if everything exists to lift you high so will I.” We need to remember who we’re here to serve on this earth. It isn’t the cute boy in your class or the friend you’re trying to impress. We exist because of HIM and we live to obey and serve HIM!

Job 12:7-10 says, “But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.”

I love this verse and its message. We get to walk alongside God’s creations every single day! Whether that be walking with your best friend to class or taking your dog for a walk. We get to experience the joys and wonders of the world every day during every second!

If God created the stars to worship, we too should rejoice and praise him. If God created the mountains to bow, we too should take up our cross and follow him. If God created the wind to go where he sends it, then we too should go where he commands us!

There are so many lessons we can learn by simply looking at the world around us. Never forget the amazing, mind blowing power that God has and how he used that power to create YOU! Rest in this, and praise him for his incredible creations. 🙂

Trade Worry for Worship

I’ve said time and time again how worry and anxiety can take such a hold on your life. One second your filled with joy and peace and the next you feel a wave of worry rush over you.

Unfortunately, it’s something that really never goes away. The only way to stop it is to change your attitude and mindset toward it. I saw a quote on Pinterest that talked about trading worry for worship, and how big of a difference this small step can make in your life.

For example, if you can’t sleep at night because you’re anxious about tomorrow, change your thoughts to those of worship and praise. Thank God for the blessings in your life instead of questioning him for the things that are making you worrisome.

One of my favorite verses ever comes from the MSG version of the Bible. I think it’s so beautifully put and can be something we all forget so often in this world.

Matthew 11:28-30 says, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me – watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

When we keep company with the Lord, life gets a whole lot better. It may not necessarily get easier, but we learn how to deal with situations more freely and lightly like the verse says above.

If you let it, worry can fill every area of your mind. It can make you be anxious over things you’ve never even thought of or considered. I’ve dealt with this time and time again, and it can truly take you over if you let it. Although it doesn’t go away at the snap of a finger, there are ways to retrain your mind to think of praise and blessings instead of worries and worst-case scenarios.

Some of the biggest areas of my life where I find my thoughts wandering are school, relationships, the future, etc. Sound familiar?

When it comes to school, I try to revert my thoughts to praising God for my education and the friends I’ve met through it. When it comes to relationships, I trade my worry in for thankfulness for that person in my life. When it comes to the future, I thank God for the present and praise him for the people and situations I’ve been blessed with.

You will never truly silence worry until you replace it with something better. Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Even the Bible says countless times to talk to God with thanksgiving. Praise him for all the goodness in your life. There is nothing too big or too small to lift up to him. Start today by changing your worry to worship!

3 Ways to Find Rest in God

Life can be stressful.  It can be full of setbacks and disappointments that are hard to overcome.  If you let these consume you, you can lose sight of God’s plan for you and how much he loves and cares for you.  Here are three different ways you can find rest in God when life throws unexpected challenges at you!

  1. Find a quiet place to dive into the Word. One of the best ways to grow closer to God is by spending time with him and him alone.  When you give yourself time to read the truth about what God says, you can find rest in his promises!
  2. Pray continuously, not just when you feel like it. When I’m in constant communication with God, I automatically feel 10x closer to him.  When I’m simply thanking him for the things in my life, I feel at peace.  It puts into perspective how many blessings I have in my life whether I realize it or not!
  3. Play some good worship music. I don’t know about you, but music is one of the most calming things for me, especially worship music. I love listening to slow, calming music that puts me into a happy mood!  It might not work for you, but it’s worth a try!

I hope this advice helps you out next time you’re feeling down or far from God! 🙂

Every day I have a quiet time with God. It is my time with God to show Him that He is first in my life. If you follow me on Snapchat or Instagram, you have probably seen me post photos of what I am studying or learning about. I love diving into God’s word and seeing what He will teach me. Here are 3 reasons I make my daily time with God a priority.

1.      God is my refuge: When life gets crazy, scary, overwhelming, or is just getting the best of you, we should run to God. I find safety and rest in Him. Knowing that I have that safe place with Him comes from studying His word. I do a daily time with God even when life is great, because I am preparing for the times when life is not-so-great.

2.      It is a way to worship Him: Time is precious, and we don’t have much of it. We are a go go go society, and we fill our days to the brim. Since time is limited, what we spend our time on shows what we value. When we give God part of our day and spend time with Him, we show Him that we value Him. We show Him he is worthy of our time.

3.      It is exercise: Soul exercise, that is. We exercise our bodies to keep us healthy and strong, so why not exercise our soul to do the same? Devotions force our attention off of ourselves and our selfish distractions and desires and put our pursuit onto God and His purpose and promises for us. When we stop working out, our bodies get out of shape, and when we stop spending time with God every day, our Faith does the same.

I encourage everyone to dive into God’s word and spend time with Him every day. It is amazing what a difference it can make in your life.

Idols are simply pictures or statues of imaginary gods.  Actually, most people who have idols don’t worship the idols but the gods they represent.  Some people, however, think that an idol itself can help them.

People want to believe in things that they can see and touch, so they make things they can see.  But we cannot see God because God is spirit.  As Christians, we do not make or worship idols because idols take our attention away from worshiping the one true God.

Key Verse: John 1:18
