Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

To summarize, to pray is to let go and let God take over. I know this is easy to say and way harder to put into actual practice. There are times in our lives when the bills are piling up, our email inboxes are overflowing, we are injured and cant exercise or play the sport we love, our faith feels as though it is getting further and further from us, you wonder if you are secure at your job, and so many more situations that can arise. Feelings of doubt, worry, anxiety, and stress bubble up. Life’s trials are immeasurable, but so is God’s goodness.

One of the best mental health exercises I have adapted in times like I mentioned above is to think to myself “Do these emotions serve any positive purpose in my life?” The answer is no more often than not. It is in those moments that I have to consciously decide to let go of them and breathe. You come to a point in life where you have done everything you can do, and the rest is out of your control. You have to completely surrender to the Lord. Losing sleep and getting sick with worry is not worth it – especially when Philippians 4:6-7 tells us that, when we give everything to God, he will strengthen and sustain you. The Bible is full of God’s promises to us – He gives us direction and advice on how to handle what life throws at us.

Remember in these times that the Lord is working behind the scenes in your life. We just need to pray to Him and make our requests known. Stressed? Pray. Worried? Pray. Focus on the Lord instead of your problems, and suddenly your woes seem much smaller. I pray that this message is both a friendly reminder and an encouragement for you all at the same time!
