Have you ever felt real, raw, knees weak, palms sweaty, mind-numbing panic? Me too.

There are times in my career where I have been on top of the world. Life is good, business is good, my friendships and relationships are strong, and I feel like life couldn’t get any better. Then, inevitably, something knocks me down. Life is all about the hills and valleys. In those valleys, panic sets in. Do people still like me? Am I going to be successful? In those moments, the panic can be overwhelming. It can feel like an elephant is sitting on my chest and fear keeps me rooted in place. What if I make a wrong move? What if I do something and people don’t like it? What if I do something and I don’t like it?

With any change comes a certain degree of panic. Whenever I launch a new project, such as writing a book, that fear sets in. What if people don’t buy the book? What if no one reads what I have to say? That is where prayer comes in. Philippians 4:6 says “Do not be anxious about anything, but in ever situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” This means that you should put your panic away, trust in God, and ask him to calm your heart. Also, Psalms 56:3 says “When I am afriad, I put my trust in you.” These two verses had a common theme: trust.

Trust God with your worries and your panic. Give it to Him and let Him carry that burden for you. We do not have to put all of our confidence in ourselves. We can rest assured that Jesus is the Solid Rock in which we stand. He will never fail us. We can trust him completely, deeply, and with our whole hearts, even when we start to feel pannicked. You also don’t have to go through anxious times alone. I know when I was at my lowest, I just wanted someone to be with me, even if it was to simply sit with me and not talk. Often times, a few words of encouragement can calm our hearts and help soothe our fears.

Don’t suffer panic alone. Let people know where you are. Reach out in prayer. Prayer trumps panic, every time.
