I will never forget the day I bought my first tube of makeup. I was at Victoria’s Secret. I saw this adorable color of lip gloss. I just had to have it! Learning to apply makeup and what looks best on us is a very big part of our growing up process. In this article I am going to outline the teen beauty basics.

Chelsea Crockett Basics For Teen Beauty

Chelsea Crockett Basics For Teen Beauty

Your best bet as a teen is to keep it simple. A huge issue for teens is covering up blemishes and acne. You don’t want to use lots of product just to make yourself look older- enjoy your youth and appreciate your vitality!

Here is my list of gotta-have-it teen products:

  1. Concealer
  2. Foundation stick
  3. Clear brow gel
  4. Light colored or sheer eye shadow
  5. Tinted lip balm, light pink or sheer lip gloss

I like to suggest keeping your makeup natural and light. It is so much easier to do this than to have to worry about spending huge amounts of time trying to alter your appearance. Just be yourself! The most important thing to remember is that you don’t want to cake on too much makeup. Stick to the basics, and use a small amount of color. You are truly stunning just as you are without makeup. Even though we commonly associate it with maturing and getting older, wearing too much won’t make you older.  The less makeup you wear, or if you wear it in a classy way, the more mature you look.

Put your comments below on what your basics are for your beauty look.

Another love of mine is online shopping. How awesome is it that I don’t have to get off my couch to shop till I drop? Today I am going to tell you my favorite online shopping sites, and the pros and cons of each.

161

Sammydress.com

  • Pro: This website seriously has everything. You can find everything from phone cases, to shoes, to the cutest sundresses you will ever find. They have an amazing selection of everything, and it is all so cheap! Their jewelry starts at $1.00 and goes to about $4.00. Their shirts are super cheap too! Most of them are between $4-8.
  • Con: The shipping! Because they are located in China, the shipping is not cheap and it takes a long time for your package to arrive.

Urbanog.com

  • Pro: They have such adorable stuff! I mostly go there for the shoes, but they also have a pretty awesome selection of clothes. But more on the shoes, I have bought three pairs from them already, and I plan purchasing more soon! They have an incredible selection of boots, sandals , flats, pumps, any kind of shoe you can think of even combat boots! Their shipping was speedy and the shoes are great quality. Every day they have a different pair of shoes featured in the “Deal of the Day” where they give you an amazing deal on the pair featured. They are always a super cute pair. I want them all!
  • Con: Sometimes my size of shoe is out of stock and that makes me sad.

Forever-21-Logo2

Forever21.com

  • Pro: Everyone loves Forever21 right? Their clothes are so cute and their style is right on target. Also, the prices cannot be beat! Sometimes they carry items on the website that are not available in stores, which is also pretty cool. I like to check out the clearance section, because there are always unbeatable sales there too.
  • Con: Because the prices are so low, that can mean that some of their items are not of the best quality, but you get what you pay for! Not all of the items are low quality, but you just have to watch out for it. Also, the online selection could be beefed up a bit, but other than that I love the site!

Go check these sites out! You never know what you will find. Happy shopping!

Why is the world so violent and evil?

Sin is the root cause of all evil.  Because people sin, the world is filled with sin and evil.  It has been this way since Adam and Eve’s first sin.good_evil_post

In some ways it may seem that violence is worse today than in the past.  Weapons are more destructive than ever before.  There are more guns and knives and more ways of hurting people than ever before.  As these weapons get more powerful, so does the power to hurt others.

But in reality, violence and evil come out of evil hearts that are separated from God.  As long as people rebel against God, we will have violence and evil in the world.

Key Verse: Romans 12:21

Hey Insiders!

Easter is here and I bet you are wondering “What the heck am I going to wear on Easter Sunday?!” Not to worry, I have a solution. Here are some super fab Easter outfit options!

easter_sunday_articleA sweet sundress: What is more perfect than a light, fun sundress to brighten up your Easter Sunday? Not much! I suggest wearing a light-colored sundress (white is what I tend to lean towards), paired with sweet peep-toed wedges and a pastel clutch. Floral patterns are also great!Perfecto!

A springy skirt: Another great option to sport on Easter Sunday is a flowey skirt. Pair a pastel skirt with a cute white shirt and you are all set! You can also pair this with cute white wedges and adorable pastel accent jewelry.

Precious pastel jeans: These are my favorite! I love pastel colored jeans. If you and your family are more casual, these are your best bet! Pair them with a fab pair of flats or heels and you are ready to go! A shirt suggestion I will make is to pair the jeans with a white peplum top and a blazer. Totally adorable!

I am confident that you will look ahhhmazing in whatever you wear on Easter Sunday. But remember, no outfit is complete without a smile!

The Look For Less

Do you ever wonder what it’d be like to go shopping as a celebrity and not have to worry about the cost of anything?!  Sounds crazy, I know, but there are ways to look as good as a celebrity without breaking the bank.  With a little effort and time, you can find the perfect outfit at stores like Forever21, Windsor, and Charlotte Russe that resemble any celebrity outfit for a fraction of the cost!

Chelsea Crockett Look For LessRecently, Selena Gomez performed at her benefit concert for UNICEF and wore a beautiful boho For Love and Lemons Luciana Dress that cost $159.00 and a Pink Mascara necklace for $38.00.  She paired the dress with white hair flowers and silver jewelry to give it that bohemian chic look.  Charlotte Russe and Forever21 carry similar dresses for $22.90-$27.80 and Forever21 sells a boho silver statement necklace for $5.50.  Claire’s carries multiple choices of white flower hair clips ranging from $1.75 to $5.50.  This is the perfect spring look to throw on with a pair of sandals for a girl’s day or to dress up for a night out with heels.  With a total savings of $158.20, you can look just as boho fabulous as Selena herself.Chelsea Crockett Look For Less

Another trend that has become really popular is army jackets.  As seen on Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Julianne Hough, and Miley Cyrus, an army jacket can be the perfect addition to a simple pair of jeans or black leggings.  Recently Julianne Hough, from the amazing movie Safe Haven, stepped out in a Jet by John Eshaya army jacket with leather sleeves for a grand total of $380.00.  Fortunately, Forever21 and PacSun carry a variety of army jackets.  Kendall and Kylie Jenner have come out with their own collection exclusively at PacSun that I just love!  Their army jacket is $79.80 and can be dressed up or dressed down.  If you’re not willing to pay that much, then Forever21 has a variety of army jackets starting at $37.80 and $42.80 for a leather sleeve army jacket that was actually featured on Pretty Little Liars!  Every girl should have an army jacket in their closet to throw on with any outfit!  Now go out and create your own looks for less!

Today I am going to tell you about one of my favorite all natural moisturizers. You may have heard of it, it is called Shea butter. It is an amazing natural product. Let me tell you more!

First off, I am going to give you a little background info on Shea butter. Shea butter comes from the fat in nuts from the African Shea Tree. I know I know, using nut fat sounds a little weird to use on your body, right? Actually, it is super effective. Shea Butter has been praised for centuries thanks to its healing properties. It is rich in Vitamins A and E and is a highly effective moisturizer.  It also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and can help ease sunburns and bounds. It can also help with skin problems such as eczema. Chelsea Crockett Shea Butter

Shea butter is available in two different forms. It is available in both a refined and unrefined form. In its natural state, Shea butter smells earthy and almost smoky. In color it can be everything from light gray, to ivory, to yellow. Since it’s unrefined, the vitamins, antioxidants, and healing properties are not removed. Refined Shea butter, in contrast, is processed to remove the fragrance. Sometimes it is even bleached so that it appears to be a true white color. Although these things have been done to it, it is still an amazing moisturizer. What you really want to avoid is the super refined Shea butter. Why? It has been processed many times, so all of the amazing healing properties and natural benefits have been stripped out.

Shea butter comes in all forms, from body lotion to shampoo and conditioner! By using hair care that has Shea butter in it, you are putting much-needed moisture back into your hair that this cold winter weather has stripped from it. When you see a product that contains Shea butter, snatch it up! You will not be disappointed.

Take The High Road: Be Proactive

Being proactive is not always the easiest thing to do. In Sean Covey’s “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens,” Habit 1 tells you how to succeed in being proactive…

proactive-2Being proactive is not always the easiest thing to do. In Sean Covey’s “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens,” Habit 1 tells you how to succeed in being proactive during every situation you go through in life.

Being proactive, I’ve learned, is to be positive and to make choices based on values, not impulse. It’s to think before you act and to control how you react to situations in life. The other path you can take is to be reactive. Although this seems easier to do, it’s the wrong way to go. The analogy used in this book is a good way to look at it. Reactive people are like a can of soda.CMSResultFigure01_11_10_14 If life tends to shake them up, everything builds inside of them and they suddenly explode. Unlike reactive people, being proactive is like a bottle of water. Shake it all you want but nothing will happen once you take off the lid. These people remain calm and in full control.

Now you have a choice, to be reactive or proactive. Being a teenager, I know the choice is not easy. I’ve gone through many situations during school or sports where I thought being reactive was the only thing I could be and that’s what I would do.  It’s easier to blame other players for throwing you a bad pass or to blame the teacher for your bad grade. The truth is it’s your fault. Maybe you caught the ball wrong or you were in the wrong position. Instead of giving up and saying “There’s nothing I can do,” think positive and say “Let’s look at all our options, I can do better.”

If you catch yourself having a reactive mindset, push pause. Think of how you can change your negative comments to positive statements. Maybe you got a bad grade on a big test. blame-gameInstead of blaming others or thinking you should’ve studied or worked harder, push pause and say you’ll do better next time.

Being an athlete, I know working with a team is sometimes frustrating and hard to do. A few months ago, my basketball team played in a big tournament that we were all very excited about. In the game to get into the semi-finals we were losing by quite a few points at half-time. We were all very down and being reactive. Thinking of the mistakes we made and the could-of, should-of moments was what most players were doing at this time. After a talk between our team and motivating words to be positive from our coaches, we then went into the game with a more positive attitude knowing we could do it. We finally caught up to the other team and ended up going into overtime and winning the game. From then on we had a more positive outlook on the next few games we had to play.

I know being proactive is hard, but it pays off. Wake up every morning and think “I am going to be proactive today.” Think before you speak, be positive, and put yourself in control of your attitude. Be proactive.

Beginning with the end in mind can help you develop a clearer picture on what you want to do with your life. Although you may have no idea what you completely want to do in life, such as who you will marry or what career you might choose, you can at least start thinking beyond today and begin deciding what path you want to take towards your  future.

begin-with-the-end-in-mind-slider Chelsea Crockett

It may seem hard to draw up a picture of what your future looks like without a blueprint. Being a teenager, I know it’s definitely not an easy thing to do. You may still be deciding on where you want to go with your life in the next few years, let alone the rest of your life. Beginning with the end in mind isn’t saying to make all the big decisions right now, but simply saying to start shaping yourself. To do this you must ask yourself a few questions such as: Do you want to go to college or graduate school? What will your attitude towards life be? What kind of relationships do you want with your family and friends? I know it’s frightening to start thinking about your future at such a young age, but your teenage years affect such a big part of your life in such a powerful way.

Take your peers as an example. Who you associate with has a big influence on how you act or what kind of reputation you have. I know finding the right group of friends is hard, but it’s better to stick to your guns and have little friends then to be stuck in the wrong group in the wrong situations. Remember, your friends don’t have to be from your school. They could be friends from church, sports teams, or even family. Wouldn’t you rather be accepted for who you are then being accepted for who you’re not?

Throughout this chapter, Sean Covey repeatedly talks about having a mission statement. A mission statement is a personal motto that states what your life is about. It’s a positive statement that motivates you to do your best and gives you a little inspiration. If things start to get bad with school, family, etc. you can refer back to your mission statement that remains unchanged and can give you some encouragement.

Last but not least, go for the goal. Don’t get yourself down looking back at set goals in the past that were never accomplished. Start fresh and have a mind ready to succeed. I know from personal experiences that getting back up after you fall is not fun or easy. In the past, I’ve set many goals from learning a musical instrument to getting straight A’s for the year. Some I succeeded through but others I failed. Looking back on your disappointments you can reflect on what you did wrong and what you can do next time to achieve your goal. It makes you a stronger person and gives you a new perspective on the future.

Make differences and leave a legacy. Life is short so start to begin with an end in mind. Make your life extraordinary.
