You may think that sun protection is as simple as putting on sunscreen and BAM, you are protected. There are a lot of sunscreen myths out there, and I am about to clear them up for you so that you can be sure you are doing what you need to keep your skin safe this summer.
Myth #1: You only need sunscreen when it is sunny out. Even when it is a cloudy day, that doesn’t mean you are being shielded from the sun’s rays! UV light comes through the clouds and rain, so don’t skimp on lathering on the SPF!
Myth #2: SPF 100 sunscreen blocks everything. Just because it says SPF 100 doesn’t mean it blocks 100% of the sun’s rays! SPF is the number that reflects the amount of time you can stay in the sun, so it is recommended that you reapply every 2 hours.
Myth #3: If you have a tan, don’t worry about burns. Not true! Tans are a sign that your skin has been damaged by the sun, so it is vital that you reapply sunscreen often.
Now that you know some truths about sunscreen, you can protect your skin the right way this summer.
