Along with a stylish outfit and killer makeup, you’ll need some festive nails to complete your Valentine’s Day look!  Instead of getting your nails done for your special night, I found three different designs you can try out for yourself.  I think they’re fairly simply to do even if nails aren’t your thing!

  • If you like going all out, then the design on the right is for you! Chelsea Crockett - Love Nails I stumbled upon it on Pinterest and love it.  If you have a steady enough hand to attempt it, give it a try!  You might even be able to find nail stickers if you’re not artistic enough.  I’m in love with how festive and creative it is!
  • If you like to keep it simple, I recommend painting your nails white to start off.  Then, add a black or red heart on your ring finger!  You can even add some glitter on top to make it pop.
  • I love using super thin nail polish brushes to decorate my nails.  It makes creating a design SO much easier!  Take one of these and paint the tip of an arrow on your middle finger.  Then finish it off by painting the end of the arrow on your ring finger to create the full arrow illusion!  Use either pink or red as the base and paint the arrow in white.  It’s so cute and outside the box!

Which design are you going to rock this holiday?  Practice your artistic ability and give one of these a try!

If there is one thing I wish I could get more of, it is sleep. Napping is one of my favorite hobbies. Staying up late sounds good at the time, but the next day is sooooo not as fun. Makeup can hide the bags under your eyes, but it can’t disguise your exhaustion! Here are 3 reasons why you should be getting more sleep, for your skin’s sake.

  1. Sped up aging process: When you don’t get enough sleep, your skin suffers. It speeds up the aging process of your skin and makes it dry out faster.
  2. Increased Cortisol levels: Cortisol is a stress hormone, and when you don’t catch enough zzzz’s, it gets all out of whack. Cortisol can also cause acne and trigger some skin conditions like eczema, or it can make your pimples worse!
  3. It changes your growth hormones: Sleep deprivation also causes decreases in growth hormones that help thicken and moisturize your skin. This leads to dehydrated skin and, like we said above, faster signs of aging! Want glowing skin? Then you need those growth hormones!

Moral of the story? Sleep keeps your skin looking better and younger. Getting your beauty rest is so worth it!

Odds are, at some point in your life, you have walked out of the hair salon almost in tears because of a bad haircut. It is hard to communicate with your stylist exactly what you want. Here are a few ways to make sure you get the haircut you want and avoid the bad-hair-cut-blues.

  1. Do some prep work: Do some research before heading to get your hair cut. Research salons in your area and look at customer reviews.fullsizerender-72
  2. Come prepared: Bring more than one photo of what haircut/color you want. Point out specifically what you like about the pictures. Be as precise as possible! Also, share with the stylist what your daily hair routine looks like, whether it is styling it every day or letting it air dry. This will affect how “high or low maintenance” your hair cut is.
  3. Trust the stylist: If a stylist warns you against a certain cut or color, take their advice! They are the professionals and want you to feel your best and most confident. They know what looks best with certain face shapes and hair textures.

Salon trips should be fun and relaxing, not fearful and stressful!

Nail care seems pretty simple: clip them, file them, paint them.  It’s as simple as that!  But is it actually that easy?  I never knew that there were certain do’s and don’ts that can make your nail care routine 10x better!  Here are some tips to follow and things to avoid when taking care of your nails.

DO’S

  • Create your own nail care routine.  Chelsea Crockett - Nail Care RoutineHaving a nail care routine down is important for maintaining your nails’ health.  Don’t let them grow weeks on end without trimming them up!
  • Moisturize your cuticle area.  Your cuticle area can get very dry and sometimes even painful.  Moisturize the area so you prevent flaky skin and redness.
  • Keep your nail tools clean!  Nail tools can get dirty just like any other beauty tool.  Make sure you keep them sterilized and free from bacteria!
  • Take nail strengthening supplements.  There are supplements for almost everything: hair, skin, nails, you name it!  Nail strengthening supplements help make your nails thicker and healthier!

DON’TS

  • Don’t bite your nails!  This one is a given.  Biting your nails isn’t only a bad habit, but it weakens and destroys them!
  • Don’t soak your nails for too long or use an excess amount of nail polish remover.  I know it’s frustrating when you can’t get off that stubborn nail polish that you’ve been scrubbing at for 20 minutes, but using too much nail polish remover will dry out your nails!
  • Don’t pull/rip off hangnails.  It’s extremely tempting to rip off any annoying hangnails especially when you don’t have any tools to help.  But when you can, I highly suggest using nail clippers to remove them instead of constantly picking at it!

I hope these pointers help you take your nail care routine to the next level! 🙂

Drugstore makeup doesn’t get enough credit for its quality.  Some of my all-time favorite makeup products come from stores like Walgreens, Target, etc.!  In 2016, there were some drugstore products that sold like crazy.  Here are the top 10 from last year!

  • Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Polish ($5).  This stuff is a lifesaver!  Instead of waiting half an hour for your nail polish to dry, this polish dries 10x faster!
  • E.l.f. Poreless Face Primer ($6).  Chelsea Crockett - Wet N Wild LipstickE.l.f. is one of the most affordable brands out there.  Their Poreless Face Primer should be your go-to primer if you’re looking for the best bang for your buck!
  • NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream ($6).  If you’ve never tried out NYX’s matte products, I highly urge you to do so!  They’re my favorite brand to go to when I want the longest lasting and highest quality matte lips.
  • Wet n Wild Silk Finish Lipstick ($1).  For only ONE dollar, this lipstick comes in lots of different shades with good quality, too!  The picture above shows only six of the several colors to choose from.  What’s a better steal than that?
  • Oil Absorbing Sheets ($5).  These sheets are great for all skin types whether you have oily skin or not.  You can use them to blot away excess oil or shine before or after you apply your makeup.

If you like any of these products, let me know which is your favorite.  And if you haven’t tried them, give them a try in in 2017!

If you get as excited for Urban Decay’s new products as I do, then you’ll be ecstatic to hear about their new up and coming collection for spring 2017!  I love waiting to hear about all the new collections coming out by my favorite cosmetics brands, especially Urban Decay.  Here’s all the insight to their upcoming collection so you can get pumped about it, too!

  • Skin Prep Spray ($31).  Chelsea Crockett - Urban Decay Setting SprayThere are two new prep sprays coming out this spring that’ll properly make your skin makeup-ready.  There’s the B6 Vitamin Infused Complexion Prep Spray and the Quick Fix Hydra-Charged Complexion Prep Priming Spray.  Each spray leaves your skin with a fresh finish ready to apply your makeup!
  • Primer ($34).  Urban Decay is releasing five new complexion primers that you can choose from!  De-Slick, Optical Illusion, Defense, Self-Adjusting, and Bright & Tight are the names of each primer that tackle different purposes and skin types.  I’m most excited to try out the Optical Illusion Complexion Primer.  It finishes with an airbrush effect that makes your skin look flawless!
  • Makeup Setting Spray ($31).  As for the setting spray, there are three different products to cater to your skin type.  There’s the All Nighter, De-Slick, and Chill makeup setting spray.  The All Nighter spray keeps your makeup on for up to 16 hours straight!  If your skin type is extra oily, the De-Slick setting spray dries matte leaving your skin without any excess shine.  The third setting spray called Chill cools the surface of your face so your makeup doesn’t melt off in the heat!

Which product are you most excited to try from their upcoming launch?  Let me know below!

What Really Happens When You Sleep in Your Makeup

You’ve always heard that sleeping in your makeup is a huge skin “no-no.”  I know I’m not the only one that’s too lazy to take off my makeup before bed…

You’ve always heard that sleeping in your makeup is a huge skin “no-no.”  I know I’m not the only one that’s too lazy to take off my makeup before bed every once in a while!  But what really happens to your skin when you let your makeup sit overnight?  Here are the real dangers of sleeping in your makeup!

Especially in the winter, it can be hard to keep your skin properly hydrated.  When you leave foundation and other face makeup on your skin overnight, it clogs your Chelsea Crockett - Dry Skinpores and causes it to dry out.  If you allow it several nights in a row, your skin might start to flake which makes it hard to apply your makeup properly.  This dryness will cause an increase in dead skin cells which results in very dull skin that can’t be fixed with a little moisturizer!  If you don’t wash your face, you’ll lose your skin’s glow and radiance!

As far as eye makeup and lipstick goes, a buildup of either of these is no good either!  Not only is leftover mascara and eyeliner bad for your lashes, but it leaves your eyes and the areas around them prone to infections.  And as far as lipstick, caking your lips multiple times a day and not washing it off at night can lead to chapped, dry lips.  This doesn’t look or feel too good!

Now that you know the truth, remember to find the motivation to take off your makeup when you’re getting ready for bed whether you’re too lazy or not!

3 Makeup Looks for NYE

New Year’s Eve is the one holiday you can go above and beyond with your makeup.  You can rock as much sparkle and glitter as you want since you’ll be ringing in the new year all night long!  In case you wanted to try something new this holiday, here are 3 makeup looks that are perfect for the night ahead!

Gold – If you want your look to focus more on gold tones, try out a look like the one on the right!  Chelsea Crockett - NYE MakeupDoing a smoky eye with brown shades will create the perfect base to add some gold sparkle.  Fill in your eyebrows and add a maroon lip to seal the deal!

Silver – If your outfit calls for a silver makeup look, focus on black and grey tones.  Since theses shades are darker, I suggest using black only on the outer parts of your lid.  You don’t want to use too many dark shades especially if you normally don’t wear a lot of eyeshadow.  Add a shimmer silver shade over your base.  (You can even add some blue tones to compliment the grey!)

Nude – Maybe you’re not into all of the sparkle and glitter and want to keep it a little simpler.  Pick a couple eye shadows that are more matte rather than shimmer.  You can do a light smoky eye paired with a matte lipstick!  Keep it simple but still complimenting your outfit.

I hope this completes your look for this New Year’s Eve!

How to Deal with Period Breakouts

I think us girls can all agree on one thing: periods are the worst!  They’re the most dreaded time of the month that we can’t do anything to stop.  Not only do periods come with mood swings, cramps, and a lot of other dreaded symptoms, but acne and pimples start to pop up all around our face, too!  Period breakouts are tough to battle, but here are some tips that can help!

The days before:  It’s all about prevention.  Chelsea Crockett - Clay MaskWhen your period is near, there’s not much you can do besides trying to stop the breakouts from coming!  First comes first, avoid clogging your pores at all cost.  Make sure you take off your makeup before going to sleep and avoid touching your face a lot.  If you feel a pimple building up under your skin, try out a clay face mask to get rid of it for you!

During:  Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse!  Keeping your face clean from oils and dirt will aid in preventing hormonal breakouts.  So, make sure you’re thoroughly washing your face in the morning and at night and getting rid of any makeup or oil!

The days after:  After your period has finally come to an end, your skin should hopefully go back to its original state.  The toughest part of your battle is over!  The only thing I suggest is sticking to a daily skin routine to prevent random breakouts and to keep your skin under control.

I hope these help you have clearer skin during your time of the month!

I see so many beauty trends and products that make me stop and think “does that really work?”  Sometimes I branch out and give them a try and am very surprised with the results!  I picked a few different products to tell you about that surprisingly work and should be on your wish list!

  • Light Therapy Acne Mask.  Neutrogena recently released a light therapy acne mask that supposedly gets rid of acne and reduces inflammation.  I have one myself and was skeptical at first, but it really makes a difference!  It’s not only relaxing but super beneficial for your skin.
  • Peel Off Lip Stain.  Peel off lip stain really depends on which brand you try for it to be a success or not!  Some brands are messy and don’t really make a difference whereas others are long-lasting and easy to use.  Read the reviews before you buy!Chelsea Crockett - Lip Stain
  • Lip Tattoos.  As long as you use these right, they usually work!  You have to place them on your lips carefully and wait for the right amount of time.  Why not try them out for fun? 🙂
  • Eyeliner Stencils.  Makeup stencils are sometimes hit or miss when it comes to the quality of them.  I’ve used an eyeliner stencil before and they won’t give you the perfect wing most of the time, unless you master them!
  • Hair Straightening Brush.  Surprisingly, these work pretty well!  The only exception is if you have really curly hair.  Either way, these brushes are great for a quick straighten!

Which product do you want to try out?  Let me know below!

Christmas Gifts for the Guy Who Has Everything

Guys are hard people to shop for. They don’t always come out and say what they want, and when you do ask them if there is something they are wanting for Christmas, the answer is often “I don’t know.” Plus, it probably seems like they have everything they want or need already! So, I have done some investigating and have come up with a short list of gift ideas that are sure to give you at least a few ideas of what to get the dudes in your life.

  1. Cool dress socks: Among my guy friends, I have found that cool socks are all the rage. Socks with cool patterns or Star Wars characters on them are a hot item!
  2. Fashionable clothes: If I have learned anything in my years of buying for both my dad and other guys in my life, it is that they rarely buy clothes for themselves. They wear their favorites over and over again. If you have a certain style of clothes that you wish the guy in your life would wear, gift it to them! That way they don’t have to go out and shop and buy it for themselves, it is just right there for them.
  3. Sweet shades: A cool pair of sunglasses is always a safe bet! Especially if you really dislike the shades he usually wears. 😉
  4. Phone gear: I saw something super cool the other day that I thought would be an awesome gift for a guy, and that is an iPhone projector! It is a case for your iPhone that literally turns into a projector! You could also get him a nice phone case, or a case that will charge his phone.pocketprojectorcase-386-261806

Hopefully this list will help you in your search for the perfect gift for the guys in your life, whether it be your dad or your boyfriend.

How College May Be Ruining Your Hair

College is a busy, busy time. You are exploring new places, meeting new people, and learning what it means to grow up and mature into an adult. College is also a time when your skin and hair routine, or whole beauty routine for that matter, may be put on the back burner because life is just crazy busy. Plus, you may embrace a more lazy approach to beauty and style during this time, which is totally cool, but it also can mean that you are sabotaging your hair. It is totally easy to let your haircare be put on the back burner, because during this time there are things way more important than your hair, but it is also important to keep your strands in mind. You don’t need to spend hours and lots of money to keep healthy hair in college, you just need to avoid the mistakes below.

  1. Wearing your hair up too much: It is easy to get in the habit of tossing your hair up into a ponytail or bun on busy mornings, but wearing your hair up every day can actually lead to hair loss and can damage your strands. I know it is tempting to just toss it up every day, but leave your hair down when you can, or wear it in a loose pony or braid.fullsizerender-63
  2. Styling wet hair: It is easy to get in a rush and want to brush and style your hair right after the shower, but brushing soaking hair does a ton of damage, so just pull it into a braid or bun and go.
  3. Not putting any effort into it: Don’t just ignore hair care. You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars or lots of time, you just need to treat it nicely. Don’t ignore trims, they don’t take long and are essential to keeping your hair healthy. Make sure you aren’t relying on dry shampoo every day because it can dry your hair out and make it brittle. Also, another easy way to maintain your hair is to spritz in some leave-in conditioner after every shower to give your hair the moisture it needs.

I know college is a crazy busy time, and it can feel like you have no time at all for hair care, but by keeping these tips in mind you can be saving your strands a world of hurt!

Lemme tell ya… cold weather can be rough on the skin!  As soon as the temperature drops, my face starts getting drier and drier.  I’ve tried different products that have worked for my skin type and others that have made it even worse.  I’ve found a few DIYs you can do at home that actually make a difference and cost almost nothing!

  • Egg yolk on your face might not sound like the most pleasant thing, but egg yolk contains proteins that help with shedding skin!  Mix together a teaspoon of olive oil and two egg yolks.  Apply the mixture to your face for about 5 minutes and rinse it off with warm water!Chelsea Crockett - Lemon Face Mask
  • Mix together a teaspoon of sugar and the juice from half of a lemon.  The sugar works as a scrub to remove any dead or flakey skin.  The lemon juice helps promote skin growth which leaves your pores smooth and glowing!  Scrub the mask on in a circular motion for about 10-15 minutes.  Then rinse it off!
  • Dry skin doesn’t only appear on your face.  If you have problems with dry skin on other areas of your body, put a cup of sea salt in a warm bath and relax in it for 20 minutes or so!  If you repeat this process 2 or 3 times a week, your skin will be detoxed, smooth, and hydrated!

Which DIY recipe are you going to try out?  Tell me below!

If you’re like me, you probably have more beauty tools in your room than you can count.  I had no idea that there are certain tools that needed to be replaced after so many days or weeks.  I wanted to tell you guys which beauty tools should be swapped out to avoid bacteria buildup to get all that you can out of your tool!

  • Eyelash curlers.  Believe it or not, but eyelash curlers collect a lot of bacteria whether it be from your eyes or makeup buildup.  This can lead to eye infections!  I suggest using a cleanser and hot water to clear off the buildup.Chelsea Crockett - Beauty Tools
  • Loofahs.  With loofahs constantly being exposed to water and left soaking to dry, bacteria likes to grow in the moist environment!  Make sure you wring out all the excess water from it after your shower.  I recommend getting a new one every month or so as well!
  • Beauty Blenders.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… clean your foundation tools!  Whether you use your blender for foundation, concealer, etc., make sure you clean it thoroughly with a cleanser and warm water every week or so.  This way your beauty blender’s quality will last much longer.
  • Tanning mitt.  If you use a self-tanner, then your mitt is probably being used all the time.  My only advice is to rinse your mitt after each use to avoid streaky application!

Are there any tools that are missing from the list?  Let me know which tools you swap out in the comments below!

Concealer comes in many shades and colors. The specific formula we will be discussing today is of the green variety. When I first saw green concealer I could not figure out what it was. Green? On your face? But, little did I know that green concealer is used to correct redness on your face because green and red are opposites on the color wheel. Here is how to use green concealer to your advantage!mufe-green-primer1

  1. A little goes a long way: The last thing you want to do is give yourself a green hue. Only apply the
concealer to the red spots where it is needed and then blend it well with your skin-tone concealer.
  2. Match it up: The intensity of the green you use depends on your skin tone. You will know it is the right shade when it seamlessly blends to your skin and hides any blemishes under it.
  3. Think it through: Think to yourself if you really need color correction. The main goal is to show as much of your natural skin as possible!

I went to Ulta and picked up some NYX brand green concealer and love it! I just use a little dab on any red spot on my face and blend it in with my skin-tone concealer, just like I said above! Try it out and see what you think.

XOXO,

Chels
