The rustic theme and aesthetic has become a popular trend when it comes to decorating. Items and décor that give off an antique feel are popping up in almost every home or décor store. If you’re not into the whole rustic theme, you can make this DIY sleeker and more fashionable, whatever you prefer!

First off, you’ll need to find a spot in your room that gives you enough space to put your rack. Second, you’ll need to pick out your rack! Chelsea Crockett - Clothing RackThere are plenty to choose from based on color, texture, etc. Some you can even buy with the “worn” look that gives it more of an antique feel. Although most of your bedrooms probably have closets, you can make your own rack for decoration! You can even choose what type of clothing you’ll hang on it. The example on the left uses it for jackets and coats… whatever you want to do!

Another fun part of creating the “look” for your rack is what type of hangers you use. I would prefer matching my hangers with the theme or colors of my room. Your rack will look much more put together when you make it look like a piece of your room. I suggest storing your shoes or purses under the rack where there’s extra room. It keeps your clothing organized and makes your room cuter, too :)!

Let me know how you design yours!

Since spring is amongst us and summer is quickly on its way, we might as well get crafty and in the spring spirit! Flowers are my favorite part about spring. I love all of the different colors that make the outdoors even more beautiful. While scrolling through Pinterest the other day, I found the cutest DIY that’s simple and perfect for the season!

First off, you’ll need to get your supplies. You will need a hot glue gun, spray paint (optional), scissors, fake flowers (whatever color matches your room!), and a hollow letter (which you can make yourself with another DIY or you can find it online or at select décor stores!). Pick out which fake flowers will go together and match your room colors.Chelsea Crockett - Monogram DIY

Next comes the real fun. Depending on what color your letter is, you can spray paint it whatever shade will match your room! While your letter is drying, take your fake flowers and cut off all of the stems. You just want the top part of the flower which will make it easier to glue them on a surface. After your stems are cut, make sure your glue gun is ready to go. Apply hot glue on the surface where you will put your flower one at a time. Place your flower on the glue and hold it till it sticks! Arrange each flower how you want it!

It’s as simple as that! Depending on whether you set it on your dresser or hang it on your wall, it’ll help get you (and your room) in the spring spirit!

3 Ways to Display Pictures in Your Room/Dorm

As teenagers, we take a ton of pictures. At least I do! Everywhere I go I make sure to capture the moment, whether it be my last senior homecoming or traveling across the country. I love displaying all the pictures I take in my room in different, creative DIY ways. Here are 3 of my favorites you can use for your own room or dorm!

I’m sure you’ve all seen this idea. All you need is some string and clothespins (and if you have a Polaroid, even better!). Hang the string across your wall and dangle different pictures on it with clothespins! You can make it however you want, whether you want your pictures in black and white or using Christmas light instead of string. If you have a Polaroid, hang your Polaroids instead of normal pictures!

Have you ever seen a DIY Instagram wall? I love them! Depending on how big you want to make it, you’ll need several mini, 4×4 white frames (you can Chelsea Crockett - Instagram Wallchange your frame sizes and colors if you prefer). However many frames you have, you’ll need to have the same number of pictures. Pick your favorite Instagram photos and develop them the size you need to fit inside the frames. Walgreens is the perfect place to do this; they have an app that lets you order them immediately! Arrange them like the picture on the left and you’re done! P.S. You can even ditch the frames for a simpler, and not to forget cheaper, look.

My last DIY idea is a picture clock! Take 12 different sized picture frames and pick your favorite photos to go in each. Arrange them in a circle completed with hands to tell the time in the middle. You can buy these at a wide variety of craft stores such as Hobby Lobby and Michaels.

I recently did a video on YouTube about how I cleared my acne, have you seen it? If not, a quick recap is that I started using a product called “Curology” and I am absolutely in love! This acne prevention medication is custom tailored for your skin and monitored by a licensed dermatologist, so this will work with any skin type (get a 30 day trial for free here:  https://curology.com/invite/chelsea). But, for those of you who like to go the more all natural, DIY skincare route, I did a bit of research and found 4 at-home skincare tips to keep your skin clear!

  1. Incorporate coconut oil: I like to use a little coconut oil on my skin after my shower, just to keep my skin soft. It is also antibacterial, so it keeps your skin clean and clear.
  2. Exfoliate daily: Use an exfoliant such as a sugar scrub every day to keep your pores clear and skin smooth. Every-day exfoliation helps keep oil and gunk from building up on your skin and in your pores!FullSizeRender-30
  3. Drink lots of water: Keeping yourself hydrated means keeping your skin hydrated! Staying hydrated helps your skin stay clear and moisturized.
  4. Change your pillowcase every/every other day. This keeps bacteria from building up and smothering your skin while you sleep!

If skin medicines aren’t your thing, try these healthy tips to keep acne away!

I often catch myself staring at nail art on Pinterest completely mesmerized. How in the world do people do their nails so perfectly?! When I do mine I feel like a kindergartener trying to color inside the lines! Today I am going to share a perfectly easy, super cute nail art technique that gives you watercolor nails! Adorable!c6a50a2b33ffb54d5dffce613e6c7fdd

All you need for this technique is a Sharpie or two, a base nail color, and some rubbing alcohol. After painting your nails in the color of your choice (I would choose a pastel because spring is closeJ ), let them dry a spell. While they are drying, combine colorful Sharpie ink and rubbing alcohol in a separate bowl, then paint it onto your nails! It should look like a watercolor painting. Add glitter topcoat if you are feeling fancy.

How easy was that? This is a great, cute nail idea for Easter!

DIY Chapstick Refill

I love my EOS lip balm. I really do. But what I don’t love is when it runs out! Instead of throwing away your old EOS balm containers, reuse them and refill them with your own homemade DIY lip balm! Here is how.c8d31c4d0e17660851ef131b4353aa33

Remove the cap from the balm container and carefully pop the base from the bottom (there are YouTube vids to help describe this process, see a video HERE). Once you have deconstructed your container as to the YouTube instructions, you are ready to make your balm!

You will need a teaspoon of your favorite oil such as almond or sunflower seed oil. You will also need a ½ teaspoon of coconut oil or cocoa butter. You will need 1/8 tsp of Vitamin E oil also. Place all of the ingredients except the Vitamin E oil and any essential oils you may want into a glass bowl and sit it in a bowl of hot water. Stir until they are all melted, and then add in the Vitamin E oil and 4 drops of essential oil (if you prefer your balm to have a scent) and mix well.

Carefully pour the balm into your container as per the YouTube instructions, allow the balm to harden for a few hours, and then make sure your pieces are all in place and ready to go!

Easy peasy!

DIYs are my specialty! I love doing them on a rainy day with my friends or when I simply don’t have anything else to do. My favorite DIYs are the ones that don’t take much to make them. Especially when they’re crafty and creative, but inexpensive and quick! Here’s one of my recent favorites that you can create for your dorm or bedroom!

Depending on how you want your masterpiece to look, you’ll need five or six pillowcases (or if your pillowcases are big like the picture on the left, you simply may Chelsea Crockett - Pillowcase DIYonly need four).  You’ll need a sewing kit and the same amount of pillows as pillowcases (obviously!). This DIY is actually extremely simple! All you have to do is line up your pillowcases horizontally parallel to each other and sow them together one-by-one. After you’re done sewing, stuff in your pillows. It’s actually that easy! I love all the different ways you can make them. You can either do the same patterned pillowcase such as the picture above or switch it up and do different patterns and colors! I suggest matching it to your dorm or bedroom. Whenever your friends spend the night, all you have to do is pull it out! I suggest storing it under your bed to save space.

Let me know how yours turns out :)!

Creativity and coffee…two of life’s greatest gifts! We combine them for today’s blog post. Drinking out of a cute mug makes whatever you’re drinking taste so much better. So, today I am going to introduce you to the easiest DIY coffee mug ever. All you need is a plain white coffee mug, a Sharpie marker or two, a pencil, tape, and your favorite quote to make today/s DIY happen. These mugs make great gifts, or a great accessory for YOU!

Supplies:

  • Sharpies
  • Pencilc7603bf96bd7c44a_photo_6.xxxlarge_2x
  • Tape
  • Design/Quote
  • White Mug

I went online and designed a cute quote on Photoshop, then printed it off. You can even use Microsoft Word to type out what you want on your mug and then print it out! Cut around the quote with a scissors and then take a pencil and shade the back of the quote. Shade really well because you will be transferring the pencil onto the mug. Tape the quote to the mug, and then trace the letters, making sure to press firmly so the pencil on the back of the quote transfers onto the mug. Take the paper off of the mug and then fill in your outline that you transferred with Sharpie. Let your mug sit for 24 hours, then bake it at 350 for 15 minutes. DONE!! Now you have an adorable homemade mug that you can be totally proud of.

Ps. Never wash these in the dishwasher, it may cause the marker to wear off quicker. 🙂

Happy mug-making!

XOXO, Chels
