In the mind of a bride planning her wedding day, a million and one things are whirling around in your head. Where do I get married; when do I get married; how do I break down the guest list? Planning my wedding was definitely stressful to say the least, but I couldn’t have done it without the help of my wedding planner and vendors. Each of them played a very important role in making my dreams a reality, but I would love to talk about how Shine Wedding Invitations made the ordering my wedding programs a breeze.

Chelsea Crockett - Shine Wedding Invitations

First things first – when I was looking for my wedding accessories, I really wanted something that was clean and simple, nothing that was overly trendy, and I wanted to be able to look back on my stationery and have it look truly timeless. Bouncing from shop to shop, online and off, I just couldn’t find what I was looking for. One day I came across an ad for this beautiful company that exemplified all the things I was looking for in my wedding programs. After browsing through their easily navigable website, which breaks down exactly what you’re looking for, I choose their Ophelia wedding invitation design. I was immediately drawn to it for the calligraphy printed on the front, as it was just so organic in a sophisticated way.

With all the planning that still needed to be done, I placed my order right away! The process was very simple and all I had to do was choose my quantities, colors, and printing style. Once I entered in my bridal party, ceremonial information, and any other notes I wanted to be included in the order, all I had to do was check out. I got an email shortly after thanking me and letting me know that my designer would be in touch within 2 business days – so now all I had to do was patiently wait for the proofs!

Shine works very quickly and I actually received an email with my proofs before the 2 business days were even up! My designer, Sarah, sent me various options of the wedding programs to choose from, since I wanted both our first and last names to be included on the intro page. She was very responsive and informative to my requests and if I wanted to talk over the phone, she gave me a call. Everything was just so easy that it allowed me to dedicate other time to other projects in preparation for one of the most exciting days of my life. When I was ready to submit my final approval and start the printing process, all I needed to do was go over the very thorough PDF checklist and hit “approve,” and in no time my order began production.

Chelsea Crockett - My Experience with Shine Wedding Invitations

Due to time restraints, I had my stationery expedited with Shine’s 2 business days UPS mailing service, which arrived right on time for my wedding day! I can’t even say how thankful I am for the quick and easy process at Shine Wedding Invitations – I couldn’t have done it without them! If you want to check them out for yourselves, please visit their wedding invitation website, as you can’t go wrong!

Love, Chelsea

Crossroad Confusion

If you’ve been in a situation where you don’t know which way to go or turn to next, then you can understand the confusion, anxiety, and frustration that can build up over time.

Maybe you can’t decide where to go to college and your decision deadline is getting closer and closer. Or maybe you can’t decide which job offer to accept because it means moving to a new city, far away from home.

There will be so many times throughout your life where you’ll come to a difficult crossroad. You can think on a decision for months, without coming to a confident conclusion of which path is best for you to take. It can be scary, especially when you feel like you’re alone and helpless.

Well, I have great news for you! Jesus, our Lord and Savior, can help us tremendously when we come to a crossroad! He wants us to come to him waving our white flags, surrendering to his plan for our life.

First off, have you asked God for guidance? Sometimes simply asking Him to speak to you and tell you the way to go is all you really have to do. Then listen for those still small voices in the back of your mind. You’ll know when they’re from God!

Isaiah 30:21 says, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”

Have you heard God’s voice before? Those small, quiet whispers in the back of your head mean more than you think. They are not always you second guessing yourself. Sometimes they really are God speaking to you! How cool is that?

The key to eliminating this crossroad confusion is confidence, both in yourself and in the fact of who God is. He will never lead you astray or guide you into something that isn’t for your benefit. You may be scared of a situation you’re in, but think of the good that can come out of it before you start to blame God.

Psalm 37:23-24 says, “The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his right hand.”

God never says that every situation you encounter will be easy. In fact, he knows life can and will be hard at times. But “though he may stumble, he will not fall,” meaning YOU! Although you face mountains, God will move them for you. Nothing is too big for God!

Be confident that God has made your steps firm. Don’t second guess the creator of the plan for your life! Listen for his voice when you ask for it. Take the path that God presents to you. It can be scary, but trusting in God and putting your faith in Him will never lead you astray!

5 Ways to Deal with the “End of School Year Stress”

The time students both long for and dread is finally here! Along with the excitement that comes with summer approaching, we also have to get through one thing first: finals.

Even just the mention of the word can bring both stress and anxiety to our minds. They’re the only thing between us and summer and are the sole reason behind the heightened “end of the school year stress.” We all could use a few good stress relievers, so I wanted to share with you five methods that have helped me and can help you, too!

INTERVAL STUDY BREAKS

Without study breaks to look forward to, my mind would go crazy. I always spread them out so I never study too much at once. I even try to make my breaks fun by watching my favorite TV show, grabbing coffee with a friend, exercising, etc.! Over-studying or burning yourself out is the worst thing you could do during finals season!

QUIET TIMES WITH GOD

There is nothing that relieves my stress more than talking to God and spending time with Him. Reading my Bible or doing a devotional always starts my day off on the right foot. When I do set aside uninterrupted time with Him first thing in the morning, I feel like my days are happier and calmer! He wants us to come to Him and lay down our worries at the foot of the cross.

PRAYER JOURNALING

Sometimes counting your blessings is the best way to relieve anxiety. I love sitting down and writing out a prayer that thanks God for all of the good things in my life. Then, when you’re feeling anxious, you have a prayer ready to go that reminds you of all that God has given you. It’s one of the simplest stress relievers, and it really does work. Thank him today for even the smallest of blessing!

EXERCISE

For me, exercising is a way to release endorphins and increase my mood no matter how stressful of a day I’m having. It gets my mind off of the things I’m worried about, even if it’s just for a small amount of time throughout my day. It’s a scientifically proven stress reliever, so try it out and see how it can help you!

CLEAN YOUR STUDY SPACE

Whenever I’m in a clean environment, I feel so much more motivated and at peace. If your bedroom at home is your study space, take a break to clean and organize your surroundings. Even if you don’t enjoy cleaning, you’ll feel more relaxed once your space is all put together!

If you’ve never used any of these tips, I encourage you to give them a try. You may find your new stress reliever just in time for finals! 🙂

Finding contentment in your singleness… What does this phrase even mean?

There is such a negative stigma around singleness. Society loves to convince us into things, one of which is thinking we’re wrong for wanting to be alone.

Now I get it, it’s fun to have crushes, go on dates, have someone to talk to, etc., but there’s also nothing wrong with the latter. In fact, we should be finding happiness in our single seasons! This phrase can oftentimes be cliché or overused, but I wanted to dive a little deeper into what it really means to be content in your singleness!

If you’re like me, you grew up dreaming of your prince charming. You painted the perfect picture of your future life, obsessing over the man that would eventually be your soulmate. Trust me, I get it, but when it starts to take away the joy of the present, it becomes a problem. We spend so much time thinking about when we’ll finally meet “the one” that we forget to find the joy in being single!

I have a friend that’s been in a total of 7 weddings, always as a bridesmaid. I asked her if she ever gets frustrated being surrounded by so many of her best friends finding their special someone, but showing up dateless, time and time again. She told me that although thoughts of jealousy and envy creep in occasionally, her trust in the Lord is so strong that she never allows these thoughts to take over. She knows that one day she’ll meet her perfect someone, and that God is simply using these single years for growth in other areas, such as getting closer to Him.

Your single years are some of the best years of your life! You get the opportunity to give your undivided attention to God, and spend uninterrupted time with Him daily! These years can be used for so much growth in your spiritual life, that you wouldn’t have had the chance to experience without otherwise. You get to experience the joys of independence alongside the creator of the universe!

God’s timing is perfect, He just needs you to trust in Him. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

Know that these single years are used to prosper you, and so much good will result from them! Find true contentment in your singleness and grow closer to God through them!

3 Ways to Grow in the Waiting

What do you think of when you hear the word “patience?”

For some, this word can make them grumble, reminding them that waiting around for something to happen is all they really can do. For others, this word brings on happiness and contentment, knowing that the best is yet to come.

For me, it can mean both for different situations. I oftentimes grumbled at God, wondering why things weren’t happening according to my timeline. When would I meet my future husband? When would I figure out my major? When would that employer call me back about my recent job interview? The list goes on and on.

In the past few years, God has blessed me with the gift of finding growth in the waiting. Instead of making it a time of restlessness or expectancy of what’s to come, God showed me how I can be content in the waiting, and lean on Him through any and every situation.

One way to grow in the waiting is by resorting to immediate prayer. Make a mental note that whenever you have thoughts of impatience, start to pray. Ask God for patience, guidance, or whatever it is you need in that moment. It’s the perfect way to turn your thoughts from desire to peace and satisfaction. It also brings you closer to God by talking to Him more throughout your day.

Another way to patiently grow is by referring to trust instead of doubt. I know for me, it can be easy to doubt that God really does have something in store for me in the future. Although I know deep down that He always has a plan, I still continue to doubt, and doubt, and doubt.

These seasons of waiting can be the biggest blessings in disguise. They give you the chance to strengthen your faith and trust in God. If life always went our way, and we always got what we want when we wanted it, then there would be no need to depend on God’s guidance and perfect timing. Use these seasons of life to trust and rely on God, even when times get hard!

Lastly, you can grow your overall relationship with God through quiet times spent alone with Him. Prayer journaling, reading the Bible, and simply talking to Him are all great ways to get closer to God. Waiting can make us go crazy, so distracting ourselves with God’s word is a win-win! Journal about your situation, read through passages that revolve around patience, and be in constant prayer. God always delivers what’s best for us, and He will for you too!

I’ll leave you with a passage that gives me comfort in the waiting. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

Do not be anxious, for God is putting His plan for your life into action without you even realizing it! As I always say, let go and let God!

5 Prayer Points to Start Your Day

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” – Philippians 4:6

The best way to start your day is by talking to God. Before you even leave your house for the day, there are certain things you need to ask God for to equip you for what’s to come.

Although we can’t predict the future, we can ask God to prepare us for whatever life will throw at us that day. After all, God knows even the smallest details of our lives before they even happen!

  1. Pray for safety.

Starting my day with a prayer for safety gives me comfort and peace going into my day. I pray not only for the safety of myself but for the safety of my family and friends. It’s so comforting knowing that God sends his guardian angels down to protect us wherever we go!

  1. Pray for the strength to turn away from sin.

Life will throw many sinful things at you throughout your day. You may not even realize that you’ve stumbled into sin! Things like gossiping, negative thoughts, jealousy, etc. are easy to fall into without even knowing it. When we pray for resistance to temptation, God gives us a conscious mind to turn away from the things that are displeasing to him.

  1. Pray for others to see God through you.

One of our missions on this earth is to witness to other people. If we’re not radiating the love of Christ to the world around us, then we’re not doing our job as followers of Christ! Pray for opportunity between you and your friends, family, classmates, or whoever else God is using you to reach. We should be excited to talk to others about the things God is doing for us that he, too, can do for them!

  1. Pray for energy.

I think you can all agree with me on this one… Days can oftentimes be long and exhausting! We could all use some extra motivation and strength to get through our day. Ask God for energy and persistence for when you’re feeling that early morning wake up call. It doesn’t hurt to get a little extra help from the man upstairs!

  1. Pray for resilience.

What exactly is resilience? It’s the ability to recover readily from adversity. Not every day is filled with hardships and difficulties, but when that day comes that is filled with adversity, God can equip us to get through it all! God is with us through the hills and the valleys, whenever they may happen. When we pray for resilience, God will give us the mindset of perseverance, and the ability to approach these situations confidently and courageously. When we change to a mindset of resilience, we turn these difficulties into mountains we allow God to move!

If you often forget to pray to start your day, challenge yourself to spend 5 minutes in prayer before you even get out of bed in the morning! Set your alarm 5 minutes earlier and see how this small change can positively impact your day in so many ways. God loves the time we spend in communication with him, and it’ll make you feel so much closer to him. What’s a better way to start your day than that?

  4. Take his car to get washed or clean it out and wash it yourself. While you’re at it, fill up his gas tank!

  13. Surprise him with tickets to see his favorite team play.
  14. Make a playlist of songs that make you think of him and cue it up in his car so it plays the next time he gets in to drive.

Prayer journaling is one of my favorite ways to talk to God. It allows me to spill out all of my thoughts on paper, praising him, confessing to him, whatever those thoughts may be.

Sitting down and aimlessly writing out prayers can be hard at times, especially when you’re stuck and don’t know what to pray about. I wanted to give you five different ways to prayer journal so you can feel motivated to start your own!

  1. Count your blessings.

Journaling about all the good things in your life is one of the most refreshing and uplifting things you could do. Spending a moment in complete gratitude is the perfect way to start your day on the right foot! Write down even the smallest of things such as the big breakfast you had or the fact that your car started this morning. Nothing good should go unnoticed with God!

  1. Make a list of all your worries, anxieties, fears, etc.

No one is a better person to vent to than God! He knows the depths of our hearts’ struggles and truly understands the things we go through. Never be ashamed of your struggles or think that God doesn’t listen when you present even the bad parts of your life to him. He will always be our loving Father that is there to carry us when we need it most.

  1. Pick a person in your life once a day, and write out a prayer for them.

This could be someone in your class, at your work, in your church, etc. that needs prayer over their life. Maybe you’re wanting God to open an opportunity to witness to them and talk to them about having a relationship with the Lord. Write that in your journal! Or maybe a friend has asked you to pray for them for a specific reason. Write about it! Everyone can always use a little more prayer!

  1. Free write a prayer about anything and everything.

To me, free writing is therapeutic. If a thought comes, I write it down. This is the perfect time to fully let God move through me. This type of prayer journaling allows God to speak to you and to let those hidden whispers become evident in your writing. Try it out and see what God is trying to tell you!

  1. Record answered prayers.

Have you ever experienced something, such as a weight lifted off your shoulders or a healing of a family member, that you knew was an answered prayer? These moments are incredible and will always make you feel so close to God. I never want to forget when God answers a prayer and how I felt in that moment. When this happens in your life, journal about it so you too can look back on it and be in awe of God’s glory!

My favorite thing about prayer journaling is being able to go back and look at what we once were in prayer over. It shows us the journey that God takes us on and the prayers that he so graciously answers. It also gives us the chance to look back and see which prayers have gone unanswered so we can continue praying for those in the future!

I challenge you to prayer journal one time this week, and see how it changes your heart and your perspective!

Timeless Travel Tips

I travel a lot, and I foresee a lot of travel in my future, especially with Nick at my side. We have our honeymoon coming up, so I felt inspired to share some of my travel tips with you.  Plus are coming up on spring and summer, and those are the times when most people travel. If you travel a lot or plan to in the future, there are a few useful packing tips that you NEED to know to make the process much simpler. These have really come in handy for me this past year because I have been on the road and in the air a lot!

  1. Use packing squares. These are zippered pouches that come in a variety of sizes and help you stay organized as you pack and unpack. I found mine on Amazon! I pack my pajamas and other comfy clothes in one square, my nice clothes in another, my toiletries in another, and keep going until I am all packed. They neatly stack in my suitcase, and when I am unpacking, I just take the squares and put them directly in the drawers where I am staying. It saves so much time because I don’t have to unpack and then re-pack at the end of my trip.
  2. Download all the apps. I download every single app that I think will be helpful beforehand, such as the hotel chain app and the airline app. That way I can check in to any flights ahead of time and get flight updates, and also check into my hotel.
  3. Take photos of important documents. I take photos of my ID, passport, boarding passes, and any other important documents just in case they get lost or stolen. I also send pictures of these documents to someone who is not traveling with me, in case they need to get me a new copy if they get lost or stolen while I am gone.
  4. Bring a padlock. If you are traveling internationally to another country, bring a small padlock with you to lock up your purse or backpack. Pickpockets are ruthless! Before you know it and without you noticing, your wallet and other important documents can be stolen in the blink of an eye. Lock your purse even when you are wearing it. You wouldn’t believe how sneaky people can be.
  5. Make things easy on yourself by using simple travel hacks. Store your phone charger and headphones in a glasses case to keep them from tangling and fraying. Store your bobby pins in an old tic tac container. Take an empty pill container and store your jewelry in the compartments. Clip a binder clip over the end of your razor to protect the blade and the things you pack from getting ruined by the blade.

Happy travels!

How to Keep Your Friends Close When You Live Far

It takes work to manage and maintain friendships – even more so when it is long distance. I moved far from home, and this move has seen many of my friendships either grow stronger or slowly fade. When you don’t live close, its not going to feel the same as when you were within a few minutes’ drive of each other, but it doesn’t have to feel like a million miles away either. Here are some of the ways I have been working to maintain my friendships from afar.

Use the tech you have available. Use Facebook messenger, Instagram or Twitter DM’s, texting, Facetime, whatever works to keep you connected. There is no shame in shooting someone a quick Facebook chat to catch up with them. You’ve got the tools, so use them! Also, understand how your friends prefer to communicate and meet them half way. If they prefer a text instead of a call, or the opposite, try and keep that in mind when you go to catch up.

I’ve also had to work on my FOMO (fear of missing out). When I see friends getting together back home I cant help but feel a little sad that I am not with them. But, that is part of life. I will be there for some things, and not for others, so letting FOMO get to me has zero positive outcomes. That leads into another point, and that is initiating hanging out when you are back home. It is hard to see everyone you want to see when you come home, but one great way to get started is to put the ball in their court and shoot some dates to your group to see if anyone is available.

A really simple and easy way to stay in touch is doing little things that fit each friendship, like shooting them a text with a throwback picture or tagging them in something you think they would like on Instagram. This lets them know that you are still there and still care about them. Then, there are times when you have to know when to let go. Not all friendships will stand the test of time, and that is okay! It doesn’t mean anything bad had to happen between you, you just drifted apart. You can still appreciate the happy memories made together.

What has helped you maintain any long distance friendships you have?

Getting Your Relationship Back on Track

Relationships aren’t always rainbows and sunshine. Sometimes it rains, and sometimes it pours. Regardless of where you’re at in your relationship, whether you’ve encountered trials and tough situations, whether you’ve been dating for a month or for a year… There are times when you could use some tips to get back to the place you’ve always been and where you’re meant to be!

Never go to bed angry.

Ephesians 4:26 says, “In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.”

I love this verse because it encourages us to solve the problem before we even lay down our heads at night. When we go to bed angry, we wake up angry, and that’s no way to have a fresh start to the day. Let yourself cool off, and then calmly solve the situation at hand before silence takes over. It makes such a big difference when you can go to sleep at night knowing that everything is going to be okay!

Practice patience.

Ephesians 4:2 says, “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”

Patience is the glue that holds everything together. We always want our boyfriend or girlfriend to be patient with us, so why wouldn’t we extend the same desired patience to them? Whether it’s biting our tongues in the moment or waiting patiently for growth in our relationships, it’s always a good idea to practice the act of genuine patience.

Give 100% no matter the situation.

Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

Although this verse was written in a different context, I believe it applies perfectly to relationships, as well. A lot of relationships go south because people forget to try and impress, love, and care for their significant other just like they did when the relationship first began. This is when problems can start to occur!

Fall humble to forgiveness.

Ephesians 4:31-21 says, “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

A forgiving and humble heart can be one of the hardest things to possess. It’s easy to forgive from the head, but not as easy to forgive from the heart. It’s natural for us to verbally forgive one another yet hold a silent grudge in our heads. This kind of mentality gets us nowhere in our relationships. If we want to continue to grow in love and trustworthiness with our significant others, letting go of any grudges and breaking down those barriers is a must.

Any time is a good time to get your relationship back on track. Why be stuck in a rut when you can change your relationship for the better with just a few simple actions? Start today, and love each other like He first loved us!

Find Joy in the Journey

I was recently asked “How are you staying so calm during this wedding planning process?” There are a few things that are helping me keep my cool. One is that I have a lot of help, and another is that I have resolved to find joy in the journey. I want to soak up this season of life and really make the most of it! So, how am I doing that?

  1. Avoiding comparison. I think it is so important to focus on what I want my wedding to look like and be like instead of comparing it to others. We’ve all seen those “Pinterest perfect” weddings, and it is so fun to dream! It can also be discouraging when you actually start to plan and find out how much everything really costs, and you have to be realistic. Your wedding is just that – YOURS! So, if you don’t get that picture perfect venue or dream cake like you’ve seen in the movies or on Instagram, that’s ok. Find joy in the things that you ARE able to have, like the people you love surrounding you.
  2. Celebrating every day’s successes. There are bound to be setbacks during the planning process, so keeping that in mind has been helpful. There have also been unexpected victories! I try and focus on the wonderful “celebrations” that happen each day, even if it is something as simple as choosing the color of the groomsmen’s socks. That is one less thing I have to do, and one more thing I can check off the list!
  3. Thinking positively. Our thoughts have a huge impact on how we feel about ourselves and how we feel our lives are going. Negative thoughts are like weeds that can take over and suffocate out all of the beauty of the moment. By thinking positively and spinning the negatives to seem more positive, my outlook on my wedding day has been one of joy instead of stress.
  4. Stop questioning. Once I make a decision, I lock it up and throw away the key. I am not doing myself any favors if I am questioning my decisions and keep circling back to the same things. Did I pick the right bridesmaid dress color? Will the guests like the food we chose? Will they have fun? The answers are YES, so no need to go back and fret about it.

Most of all, I remember that “The joy of the Lord is your strength”(Nehemiah 8:10). As this season of wedding planning comes to a close, I will continue to choose to find joy in the journey that God has put before me, and I pray that you will do the same in whatever season you find yourself in.

Practice the Pause

When in doubt, pause.

When angry, pause.

When tired, pause.

When stressed, pause.

And when you pause, pray.”

I saw this short quote when I was scrolling through Instagram the other day. I almost scrolled passed it, but then the caption stuck out at me: “practice the pause.”

Practicing the pause is something I often forget to do. I react too quick, I jump to conclusions, I panic before knowledge of the whole situation… Any of these sound familiar?

Practicing the pause makes a world of a difference. It allows us to take the time to stay calm, relax, and talk to God. When we do this, we truly live out Psalm 46:10 which is “Be still and know that I am God.

When in doubt, pause. When we begin to lose faith, immediately get into communication with God. Pray for reassurance, pray for peace, pray for security… and all of these things will come to you. God never wants us to doubt his power over our lives. He has a perfect plan that is always for our good, whether we believe it at the time or not.

When angry, pause. This one is probably the most important. When we’re angry, it’s easy for us to quickly react without thinking. Take a deep breath, stop, and give yourself a chance to calm down. We should never react or make spur of the moment decisions when we’re mad. We should be clear-headed, calm, and controlled when we deal with tough situations or people.

When tired, pause. Let’s face it, we all get a little tired sometimes and could use a couple pauses throughout our day. Take a break from what you’re doing and spend a few minutes with God when you’re feeling overwhelmed, worn out, or beaten down. These few minutes with him can make the world of a difference.

When stressed, pause. If you let stress and anxiety take over your thoughts, it can fully consume you. When I become stressed or worried, I pause and immediately start counting my blessings. You can even write them down in a journal or in the notes section of your phone. This always helps change my mind from thoughts of worry to thoughts of praise.

Matthew 11:28-30 says “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

In the midst of life’s pauses, remember this verse. God promises that if you come to him, you will find rest no matter the circumstances you’re in. What an amazing feeling of comfort he can provide us with through a simple passage!

Rest in God today and take advantage of your pauses. They will change the way you deal with doubt, anger, stress, and so much more!

Every single day, dismal headlines flash across our screens. Hard stories, political wars, battles with words, threats, disaster, evil, and suffering seem to be all anyone can talk about these days. There is so much to feel anxious and overwhelmed about – for us, for our children, for our nation, and for the future.

You know what helps me quiet the noise? God’s truth. He is not up in heaven, pacing the floor, worrying about what is happening down here on earth. He is not fretting that His plans that have not worked and coming up with a backup. His plans ALWAYS happen the way He planned for them to. I like to think of Psalm 18:31 which, in summary, says “there is not a more secure foundation to build my life upon than you.”

There are a lot of opinions out there, a lot of voices sharing what they think to be true. Thank goodness we have a direct line of communication to the One voice that matters. Matthew 7:24 says, “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” This is where I am reminded of the hymn “The solid rock”, a song most of us grew up singing in church. The words of the song are timeless and relevant to every single generation who sings them. “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand.”

When you are feeling the pressure to shift your beliefs based on popular opinion, give in and accept defeat, or budge on what you know to be right and true, remember this: Jesus is the rock that will not move or budge. His truth is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He made the ultimate sacrifice so we could live free lives. That is true, real love and grace.

Rest in that today.

Can’t Sleep? Read the Word

Before I go to sleep at night, I go through my nightly routine. This includes preparing myself for tomorrow, setting my alarm, etc., and always ending my day in prayer. Some nights, I fall asleep as soon as my head hits my pillow. Others, I toss and turn and let my thoughts take over.

Whatever your reasoning is for lack of sleep at night, whether it be anxiety, fear, or sadness, there is always a place in the Bible that you can turn to. I know when I read the Bible and discover the truth that God has in store for me, I get filled with a sense of peace.

I have the Bible app on my phone so I can access it anytime, anywhere. This is the first place I go when I need to put my mind at ease. The app even has certain plans that point out verses related to anxiety, the future, or whatever else you’re worrying over.

I wanted to tell you the verses I turn to when I need to find peace at night. My all-time favorite go-to verse in these situations is Jeremiah 29:11. It says, “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you home and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.’”

I love this verse because, whatever I’m anxious about, I know it’s a part of God’s ultimate plan. His plans are always to prosper, never to harm. Whenever I meditate on that sole fact, I always become calm and at peace.

Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” When we replace our anxious, wandering thoughts with praises of thankfulness, our whole attitude changes. You start to notice the big picture of things, and that maybe what you’re worrying about isn’t so big after all.

John 14:27 says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”  Repeat this verse in your head over and over again until you fall asleep. God gives you his perfect peace that the world can’t offer. Remember, his peace isn’t temporary. It’s always there to be let in to your life if you let it.

God doesn’t want you up at night worrying about the things he’s already taken care of. Take a deep breath, pull out your Bible, and let God be the last person you interact with for the day. Remember, be still and know that he is God!

Improving Your Relationship God’s Way

If you truly know God, then you should know his way of doing things is one hundred times better than our own. Especially when it comes to relationships, God knows a thing or two about how we can not only find true, lasting love, but how we can improve our relationship as the years go by.

There are so many attributes that are talked about in the Bible in order to have or improve a healthy relationship. I wanted to focus on a few of the main things you can work on just like I do in my own relationship. You can’t argue with what the Bible has to say!

PATIENCE

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” – Ephesians 4:2

You may think you’re a patient person, but recognize the next time you start tapping your foot or rolling your eyes. Patience comes solely from a place of love and a peaceful mind. Next time your boyfriend starts testing your patience, take a deep breath, and remember how patient God is with us and how undeserving we are of his mercy.

ENDURANCE

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” – Colossians 3:23

Disagreement, jealousy, bitterness, and so many other things can cause relationships to get hard at times. If you know you’re with the person God wants you to be with, that relationship will require work, even when things get rough. This isn’t an excuse to stay in a toxic relationship, but when you know your boyfriend or girlfriend is the one, you have to put in the effort to make it work no matter what.

SINCERITY

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.” – Romans 12:9

If your relationship isn’t sincere, truthful, and genuine, then you probably shouldn’t be in it in the first place. Sincerity and honesty is something God holds so highly, because it allows you to fully trust the other person. Love must be sincere, and if we practice that daily, good things will happen in our relationships.

SELFLESSNESS

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

If you want to know the best way to do relationships, read 1 Corinthians 13. The above passage lists so many characteristics of a healthy, godly relationship. Practicing selflessness could be as simple as cooking a nice meal for your boyfriend/girlfriend, getting them their favorite coffee, or even accepted defeat in an argument (which I know may not be the easiest thing!).

Practice these four qualities in your relationship and watch how things can change for the better. If we have the means to improve our relationship, why wouldn’t we? 🙂
