It’s that time of the year again…PROM!  It’s the biggest event to happen in high school, so picking the perfect dress is essential.  So much goes into shopping for the right dress: color, style, sizing, etc.  It’s quite the ordeal!  To make your prom shopping trip a little easier, follow a few of my simple prom dress tips!

  1. Start shopping early!
  2. Make sure to pick a color that is right for you!  If you have pale skin, do not pick a color that will wash you out.  Instead try royal blue or nude.  These colors will Chelsea Crockett- prom dresseshighlight your best features.  If you have dark hair or olive/dark skin, go for a bold color!
  3. If you are ordering online, then order one size larger than you normally would.  It’s easy to make a dress smaller, but it’s impossible to make a dress bigger.
  4. Find the right tailor!  Whether you buy a dress in-stores or online, most of the time you will need to do some adjusting.  A tailor can make your dress fit your body perfectly.
  5. Try on every…single…dress.  This is SO important!  A dress can look completely different on the hanger.  Be sure to try on every dress you like until you find the one.
  6. Keep an open mind!  Try on dresses that you normally wouldn’t like.  You may be surprised!  Also, listen to others opinion.  Just because you like a dress, doesn’t mean it’s the dress for you.
  7. Show your friends your dress, so they do not buy the same one as you.

Happy prom season!

Hold on folks, because here comes…what NOT to wear when meeting his parents!

Okay, ladies. Let’s start off with the makeup. Do NOT cake on the makeup. Don’t wear crazy colors or super thick eyeliner, you want them to see you for you! Wear makeup that accents your natural assets. When choosing what shades to wear, neutrals are ALWAYS safe. Go for a light smokey eye and brush on a little blush! Next, do NOT wear a mini skirt or booty shorts. I know that this is a “duuuhhh” for most of you, but I just wanted to point it out! Modest is hottest 🙂Chelsea Crockett

Wear bottoms that come just at or below your knees. Bermuda shorts or ankle pants are always a safe bet! Also, don’t wear items that make you uncomfortable. You don’t want to be fidgeting with your bra strap or pulling your skirt down, you want to be focused on his parents! And finally, do NOT wear low cut shirts. Your boyfriend’s mom does not want to see down your shirt, trust me! (Plus, how totally awkward would THAT be! Im just lookin out for ya!)

Just remember ladies, be confident! Show them the real you. What’s not to love!?

XOXO, Chels

Prints are huge this fall and one of my favorite prints this season is polka dots!  From denim to sweaters, this print can be found in so many different materials.  Sometimes, styling polka dots can be difficult since it’s such a bold print.  I’ll give you a few tricks, tips, and ideas on how to rock your polka dot item.Chelsea Crockett- polka dots

Whether you going for the casual or business look, polka dots will keep you looking classy!  A casual way to wear polka dots is to style a pair of polka dot denim jeans.  Usually you can find these in a variety of colors from dark denim with light denim dots to white denim with black dots.  Pair these skinny jeans with a solid colored basic tee and a pair of your favorite flats.  If it’s chilly, throw on a light sweater and you’re good to go!  You don’t want to over shadow the pants (Throwing on a fedora is an awesome accessory too).  Another fun way to wear polka dots is on a sweater.  Find a chic print sweater and tuck it into a pencil skirt.  It’s still professional, but has a fun and girly twist to it.  Chunky necklaces are always a great accessory to go with a scoop neck sweater.  Glam it up!  Polka dot is a clean, classic print that will never go out of style.  Comment below and give me your fashion ideas for styling polka dots!

What would you say if a button up could turn a dress into a skirt, be turned into a crop top, and be used as a jacket?  While it may sound too good to be true, it is possible!  Button ups are a must for every closet and have so many purposes.  I’ll show you how to turn these shirts into a completely different outfit!  Get the most use out of your clothing!

To make a summer skirt, put on a sun dress or tight body con dress and wear a sheer or solid button up over it.  Button your shirt all the way up, but leave the last two buttons unbuttoned.  Tie the bottom of your shirt and it will give the illusion that you are wearing a skirt and top!  To make a winter skirt, do the same thing, but wear a maxi dress.  Pair it with a pair of combat boots and you’re good to go!  Making a crop top is very similar.  Tie your top the same and pair with high waisted shorts.  It’s such an effortless look!Chelsea Crockett- button up with dress

Lastly, a button up can be used as the perfect light summer jacket.  I love using denim button ups and bring it almost everywhere.  Whenever you get chilly, slip it on and leave it open and you’ve got a quick jacket!  It’s pretty stylish too!  Check out these button ups from Amazon and comment below if you have another fun way to rock a button up!

“Ugh, glasses, they’re so nerdy”……WRONG!  Glasses are starting to make their way back into the fashion world.  They are seen on the front cover of fashion magazines and runways all over the world.  Now it’s your turn to throw away those contacts and give your glasses a try.  What was once nerdy is now fabulously chic! Chelsea Crockett- ray-ban glasses

Glasses should always enhance your face, not cover it up.  Think of them as an accessory, not a necessity (even though they are).  Thick “ray-ban” styled glasses are all the rage.  They give each and every outfit that edgy look with a sophisticated twist.   Try them in a bold black and soft brown to bring out your eyes.  Be sure to enhance your eye makeup to keep your eyes a key focus.  You don’t want your glasses to over-shadow your beautiful eyes!  Another cool trend to try is ombré glasses.  It gives your glasses that eye catching appearance and have a modern feel to them.  They are casual yet dressy!  You can wear them to a wedding or just to class.  Remember, glasses are a must have!  While I’m not condoning to wear glasses if you don’t need to, it’s not a crime to buy a fake pair to wear every once in a while.  Embrace your glasses and your hot new look!

If any of you watched this year’s Kids Choice Awards, you probably noticed the amazing fashion that was seen on the orange carpet… and yes I said orange!  The KCA’s are sponsored by Nickelodeon, so what’s better for the occasion than an orange carpet?  Here are a few fashion statements made throughout the show that you can put into action for your spring wardrobe!Chelsea Crockett - Laura Marano

One style that I spotted quite often was long and lengthy skirts.  They were seen in all different colors and patterns, a perfect way to start off your spring styles!  Debby Ryan, Laura Marano, and Coco Jones are a few examples spotted wearing this chic trend.

Chelsea Crockett - Ariana GrandeSimple solids were also hot on the carpet this year.  Lia Marie Johnson and Bella Thorne had a couple of the cutest colors that looked outstanding on them.  One of my favorites was Ariana Grande’s simple yellow-orange dress to the left.  So pretty!

The timeless trend of lace was of course seen once or twice throughout the night.  Lea Michele, Peyton List, and Audrey Whitby all had gorgeous dresses!  Don’t be afraid to put these trends to action next time you’re out shopping to complete your spring wardrobe!

In this day and age, styles and trends come and go and only stay for a season or two.  This season, a trend that’s in, hot, and popular is boho chic.  If you don’t know what it is, boho chic is a bohemian, Indy type style that’s hot in Hollywood right now.  Celebrities such as the Kardashians, Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, and Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen have been seen wearing this new Chelsea Crockett - Boho Chic Dresstrend.

The boho chic look can be described as usually loose fitting with tie dyed colors, floral patterns, or solids with crocheted lace.  It is most often worn as a dress but some skirts combined with cute shirts can bring on the look, too!

If you’re into this look, you can find related clothing at Urban Outfitters or Free People.  Although these stores are a little more expensive, you can ask for their clothing for your birthday or for other events/holidays for gifts.  You can also find this type of clothing at Forever 21 (of courseWink) for a cheaper price.  I love this style because it’s unique and a fun, new way to dress.  It’s also super comfy!  You guys should totally check it out.  Enjoy!

Spring can be a confusing season, since it can be a mix between summer and winter weather.  As the cool winter air turns into the crisp spring weather, layering is an important art to master in the fashion world.  It’s an easy way to be able to break out some of your warm-weathered clothing without freezing in the cool March temperatures.  Check out my simple ways toChelsea Crockett- spring layering layer in the spring.

The #1 tip to layering is to keep the bulk to a minimum.  It’s easy to throw on an abundance of clothing, but the outcome may not be flattering.  Keep your base outfit form-fitting.  A blazer is a great way to add warmth to an outfit without making the outfit look bulky.  It can be paired with a simple dress or jeans and a tee/button-up.  The same goes for a vest.  If you want to wear one of your favorite dresses, but the weather might be too cold for it, don’t worry!  Try pairing your dress with a jean jacket and light, silk scarf.  If it’s too chilly to wear sandals, opt for a pair of flats or knee high riding boots to complete your look.  If it’s too chilly to wear your favorite spring button up, try throwing on a crewneck sweater over the shirt, pulling out the collar and rolling up the sleeves.  Make sure to wear bright colors to really capture the essence of spring!

Layering is so important, especially during the months of crisp, cool weather.  Experiment with your clothing, and soon enough, you’ll be a layering expert!

Do you hate going jean shopping?  The sizes are crazy, some are too short or too long, they fit in the waist, but are too tight in the thighs, the color is weird, etc.  There are so many crazy reasons why jean shopping can stink!  I’m sure many of you can relate when I say that some styles of jeans look awkward on me.  Well, I’m going to help you find your perfect jean for your body type!Chelsea Crockett- jeans

Curvy body type: Try a solid colored jean.  When the jean is faded, it can create the illusion of a thicker leg.  No one wants that!  Also, try rolling your jeans at the hem.  This will add width at the hem, which balance out the hips.  Slim skinny jeans will also flaunt your figure!

Long legs:  If you’ve got long legs, then you’ll want to show them off!  Try buying jeans that are tight in the thighs and wide at the leg.  This will make your legs look even longer and really show them off!

If you’re short: Tight skinny jeans can actually make you look shorter.  Try a pair of loose jeans that don’t hug your body.  They’ll create a good illusion.

Hopefully this little guide helps you on your next jean shopping adventure!!

When you think of a scarf, you probably think of cold weather, don’t you?  A large coat, wool hat, and boots are usually what a scarf is paired with.  Surprisingly, a scarf CAN be worn in the summer.  Summer scarves are super cute and come in a variety of colors and prints.  These light weight scarves can be purchased almost anywhere; Forever21 carries a handful of cheap, summer scarves.Chelsea Crockett- Summer Scarves

Summer scarves can be perfectly paired with a sun dress or a pair of high waisted shorts with a tank.  Adding a scarf to your look will give it an extra edge and pop of color!  Wrap the scarf around your neck multiple times, wrap it around once, or fold it in a square and then wrap it for a triangle look in the front.  The material used for these summer scarves are very light, so don’t worry, you won’t be sweating!  Go out and buy a sweet, summer scarf to pair with your cool summer looks.  You’ll guarantee to step up your summer style game.

Do you have shoulder length hair and long to have a long, luscious pony tail like the ones you see in the movies? I have a secret trick on how to trick people into thinking that you have a longer, fuller pony tail. Check it out!

First, loosely curl your hair to give it some body. Next, tease the crown of your hair and smooth it out. Pull the top half of your hair up into a high pony tail. Next, pull the bottom half of your hair into another ponytail in the middle of your hair. Spread the top ponytail out so that it covers up the bottom ponytail. Because you have a low pony on the bottom, it makes you look like you have looooong hair! Cool illusion, a4670dd63d87a6dfd550c1dc20635583right? Tie a sleek bow onto the top pony to add a girly touch to it! I have worn this chic style to everything from weddings to church!

So what exactly is costume jewelry?  It’s typically jewelry made from inexpensive jewels that are usually bright colored and large in size!  If you plan on wearing costume jewelry, keep your prints and patterns to a minimum.  They are meant to enhance the outfit!  Try wearing a large costume necklace with a solid colored sweater, skinny jeans, and colorful flats.  Large jeweled earrings are great when you have your hair up.  They make even the worst hair day look better.  For inspiration on how to wear costume jewelry, check out Kate Spade and J.
