Washing your hair is one of the worst things you can do to it. Crazy, right? You would think that getting out all of that dirt, grime, and grease would benefit it! Well, your shampoo more than likely contains tons of harmful ingredients, chemicals, and can cause lots of yucky product buildup on your hair that can weigh it down and prevent you from being able to style it. Want to know how to save your hair from being harmed PLUS get it squeaky clean? Wash it with baking soda! The baking soda and vinegar method is cheap, effective, simple and chemical-free! Here is how you can use this method. baking soda 2

Wash your hair with baking soda, then rinse it with an apple cider vinegar rinse. I have discussed this kind of rinse before, but I will go over it again in a sec!

Mix 1 part baking soda with 3 parts water. If you have shoulder length hair, mix about 2-3 tbsp of baking soda with 3x that much water in a bottle. Apply the baking soda and water mixture to dry or wet hair by starting at the roots and working it through to the ends.  Let it sit for 1 – 3 minutes then rinse it out with warm water. After washing and rinsing with the baking soda mixture, you’ll want to use a vinegar rinse. Mix 1 part apple cider vinegar with 4 parts water. Lean your head back and close your eyes, then rinse the mixture through your hair. Rinse with cold water to seal in the moisture and shine!

I am excited to see how this method will improve my hair, by keeping it shiny, healthy, and frizz-free! Have you ever tried a baking soda shampoo? Comment below!

Whether you’ve got facial scars as the result of bad acne, an injury, or a surgery, having a scar on your face can be very discouraging.  While some can easily be covered with makeup, others are nearly impossible.  Believe it or not, there is a way to reduce the appearance of scars naturally with your own at-home recipe!  It’s time to banish scarring once and for all!Chelsea Crockett- DIY scar remover

What you’ll need:

  • ½ teaspoon of baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon of purified water
  • Coconut oil

Create a paste by mixing together the baking soda and water.  Apply to the scarred area for 5 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.  Use your hands to rinse off the mixture instead of using a towel.  You’ll want to be as gentle as possible!  Last, apply coconut oil to the area to moisturize and reduce darkening! Hint: try this before bed, so the coconut oil has enough time to sit.  Repeat this process once a day until the scarring has reduced!

Baking soda: we all have it sitting in our kitchen cabinets at this very moment. This underestimated powder has so many amazing beauty uses. It can be a brightener, exfoliator, acne treatment, and anti-bacterial agent. Here are a few ways you should start using baking soda in your beauty regimen!

  • For your teeth: Baking soda is a natural bleach for your teeth. In a small bowl, mix 1 tbsp of baking soda with a bit of water and salt and use it instead of toothpaste.SCRUB
  • For your hair: Shampoos and conditioners leave a lot of build-up on your hair, and baking soda can help clean that buildup off. Mix a tsp of baking soda with a cup of water and apple cider vinegar and pour this mixture over your hair. Then rinse it out.
  • For the nails: dip a soft, wet toothbrush into baking soda and use it to scrub the dead skin around your nails.
  • For exfoliation: mix 1 tbsp of baking soda with 1 tbsp of water or apple cider vinegar and scrub your skin. This will help tighten your skin pores and prevents acne because it is a natural antibacterial.

I am always looking for new natural beauty remedies. A lot of times, choosing to make your own beauty concoctions is a cheaper alternative to buying them, and they are a lot better for you! Here is how to make your very own refreshing exfoliating mask!

Ingredients:NH-SO10-orange-slice

–          Oranges

–          Baking Soda

That is all you need! I love beauty remedies that have very few ingredients because they are simple, which means they are easy to make and easy to find the ingredients to! So, take a tablespoon of juice from your oranges and one tablespoon of baking soda and mix the two ingredients together in a small bowl to create a paste. Spread a thin layer of the paste on your face. Leave the mixture on for about 20 minutes, and don’t worry if it starts to tingle! That means it is doing its job.  Dampen your fingertips and scrub the mask in a circular motion to exfoliate your problem areas. Rinse the mask off of your face and admire your skin! Not only will you smell like a citrus goddess, you will have super clean glowing skin.

Like I said, I love keeping things all natural and homemade. Try this mask and see what you think! You may even have these ingredients laying around your kitchen. Bonus!

Have you ever been in a rush and realized you ran out of the one beauty product you needed?  Well don’t worry!  Luckily, there are a handful of beauty hacks that you can use to substitute almost any product; and all of them can be found lying around your house!  Check it out!

  • Doing your nails can be a hassle, especially when you run of out nail polish remover.  Although it may smell strong, you can use your perfume to remove the polish.  Spray the perfume on a cotton ball and it’ll do the trick!
  • Have you ever run out of primer?  No problem!  Put a thin layer of aloe vera gel on your skin as a substitute.  The aloe will reduce pores and smooth over skin.  It will also help your makeup stay on longer.
  • Bronzer is a girl’s best friend, but only when you use it in the right amounts!  If you ever run out, try cocoa powder.  Use this in small amounts, for it may be darkerChelsea Crockett- cocoa powder bronzer than you’d like.
  • Are you feeling stinky, but realize you are out of deodorant?  Simply mix together baking soda with water and dab it on under your arms.  It’ll eliminate the smells!
  • Out of eyeliner?  Using an angled brush, lightly dab the brush onto your mascara brush and then use that as your eyeliner.

When life gives you problems, beauty problems that is, remember there’s always a way to fix it!
