4 Signs of a True Gentleman

I don’t know how many times I have heard the phrase “there are no good boys in my town” when girls are talking about why they don’t have a boyfriend. And sometimes, that really can seem like the truth! In my age group, there seems to be a lack of gentlemen, and finding a quality guy can feel like finding a needle in a haystack. Don’t lose heart! There is a guy out there for you that will treat you like a lady. Here are the signs that you have found a true gentlemen.

  1. He treats the women in his life with respect: Whether it is his mother, sister, or other friends that are girls, a boy should respect and treat them with dignity. He does this by listening to them when they talk and by affirming and defending them. I was always told to watch how a boy treats his mother, because that is a sign of the way he will treat his girlfriend.
  2. He values you: A gentlemen will lift you up, not tear you down. He will make sure you know how valuable you are!
  3. He is confident without being cocky: No one likes being with a guy that is full of himself. A gentlemen is humble, and he also seeks guidance from people that are older and wiser than him, aka he is not a know-it-all!
  4. He is smart with money: This one isn’t as big of a deal at this stage of life, but knowing how to wisely handle money is a biiiiiiig deal as you get older! So, having a guy who knows how to save money and doesn’t blow it all the second he gets it is a huge plus. Getting in the habit of saving money is really important.

Finding a true gentlemen may be hard, but it is worth the wait! You are worth it.

I am going to make a prediction. I predict that I will be wearing a lot of hats this summer! Hats are a great style piece, plus they keep the sun off of your face and prevent wrinkles! It is a real win-win. Here are a few of my favorite summer hat styles.

  1. Floppy hats: I am in love with the hats that have words sewn into the brim, like the one below! Floppy hats are such a chic way to keep the sun out of your eyes. Plus, they can be worn anywhere from the boardwalk to the beach and beyond.
  2. Baseball caps: Baseball hats allow you to disguise bad hair days AND look sporty and cute. I have a few St. Louis Cardinal hats (my home team!) that I love to wear to both support my team, plus they are super cute. Baseball hats are also an easy way to express your personal style because they come in so many colors, patterns, and logos!
  3. Wicker hats: There are so many styles of wicker hats! I love the ones with bows in the back, like the one below. They are a way to show off your feminine side. Plus, they are a classic fashion statement that will never go out of style.

What are your favorite hats to wear in the summer?

Micah 7:8 says “Though I fall, I will rise again.”

This verse is a great reminder to keep going even when you fall, because you will rise up again. Life is this
way. There are peaks, and there are valleys. What comes up must come down. We have great times in life that are followed by not-so-great times. The silver lining during those “down” times is that we know that they will eventually turn around. Even though there are days when we think “this day could not possibly get any worse” and then it does, we can find peace in the promise that though we fall, we will rise again.

Psalm 34:14 tells us to “Seek peace and pursue it.” Are there areas of your life where you wish there was seek peacemore peace or happiness?

To me, seeking and pursuing peace means a couple of things. First, it means to not seek conflict. If you disagree with someone, you can respectfully disagree with them and politely state your opinion, but
there is no need to stir up drama or create a confrontation. Secondly, I think it is about your attitude. I happy, friendly person is definitely more peaceful and more calming to be around than an uptight or rude one. Being a person that makes the people around them feel at peace, happy and at ease is a big deal. It can be a great way to minister to people and also draws people to you.

If you want to set an example for others, then seek peace and pursue it. A more peaceful life means a less stressed and tense life.

How God Shows Us He is In Control

As most of you know, this last year has been a year of change for me. I went from going to high school, to going away to college, to realizing that wasn’t where I was meant to be and moved back home. There has also been a ton going on in the midst of all of those changes, so needless to say it has been a nuts year. I saw a quote the other day that spoke right to my situation, and it said “The only way God can show us He’s in control is to put us in situations we can’t control.”how god shows us he is in control

How true is that? In my life, it is painfully true. God doesn’t call us to a comfortable life of contentment, he calls us to do things that take us out of our comfort zone. If you are in a situation where you feel like your life is out of control and it isn’t going the way you planned, just remember that the only way God can show us He is in control is to put us in situations we can’t control. He will pull you out of the situation and will show you that he’s got the whole thing covered.

Grapes are the perfect snack to take to school with you. They aren’t messy, they are easy to grab and go, and they are tasty! Want to make them even tastier? Toss Nutella and nuts into the mix! Here is how to make tasty Nutella grape bites that are perfect for school lunches, snacks, and even great to take to friend’s houses! The best part is…they only take 5 minutes to make!!

Ingredients:

  • Nutellagrape2-e1413946464385
  • Bag of green grapes
  • Nuts (any kind you want. I prefer pecans!)

Wash your grapes and then let them dry. Dip the bottom half of each grape in the Nutella, and then roll them in the crushed nuts. I like to freeze my grapes after that to make them a cool treat, but you can store them at room temperature if you prefer! These are a great when you just want a “pop” of dessert and need a quick way to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Your friends will be swiping these out of your backpack once they see you with these tasty treats!

Cleopatra, the Egyptian queen, was known as the most beautiful woman in the world. She was one of the first to wear makeup, use scrubs, and soak in baths. She was pampered with natural resources from the earth and animals, which you can recreate yourself!

  • For glowing, soft skin, mix half a cup of honey, 3 cups of milk, and 5 tablespoons of olive oil and add it to a warm hot bath to soak in. It’s all about relaxation!
  • Cleopatra didn’t have primer or toner during her time, so she used rose water instead! It acts as a natural toner and primer in one! It’ll keep your skin nourished, while also helping makeup go on smoothly and last longer.
  • Vinegar circulates the blood that irritates skin. After removing makeup, try adding ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar to a sink full of warm water. Splash your face and let it air dry or healthier skin!Chelsea Crockett- henna nails
  • Ever heard of a henna tattoo? Cleopatra used henna to dye her nails! While the color wasn’t permanent, it would protect the nail and leave a long-lasting color.
  • Raw honey is skins best friend. It has antibacterial properties, slows aging, treats acne, and creates glowing skin. Try a raw honey mask!

Whoever said old people (like hundreds of years old) don’t know what they’re talking about it is totally wrong!!

If you’ve checked Instagram lately, you may have noticed a crazy, new (but totally cool) hair trend going around called rainbow roots.  Basically, you’re out of luck if you have dark hair like me, but if you have light hair you can turn your hair into an array of pastel colors!  If you’ve ever wanted to do something wild with your hair, but didn’t want to commit to a full head of rainbow strands, then rainbow roots is your perfect next look!Chelsea Crockett- Rainbow Roots Hair Dye

Streekers is a commitment-free hair dye that comes in 8 colorful shades, including purple, blue, pink, etc. So how do they work? Part your hair any way you would like and lift up strands of hair away from your scalp. Apply the colorful dye to dry hair starting at the root to where you would like the color to end. If you want to do more than one color, wait a minute between each color change. Once the colors are dry, brush through the dye and style your hair as you normally would! Once you’re ready for your old hair back, simply hop in the shower and wash it out!

It’s always fun to experiment with your hair, especially when you know it can be reversed. Have fun Insiders!

Having a fast metabolism is a blessing in itself.  You could eat 10 donuts and not gain ANY weight.  Talk about jealous!  Unfortunately, not all of us were born with a turbo speedy metabolism and it only gets worse as we get older.  Luckily, there are a few everyday things we can do to keep our metabolism up and running; plus, all of these tricks are super healthy for your body.  Check it out!Chelsea Crockett- healthy breakfast

  1. When you’re tired, not only does your body slow down, but so does your metabolism. Make sure you’re getting a good night’s rest.  Aim for 8 hours a night!
  2. Your muscles burn up a lot of calories during the day. To burn even more, try weight training to build up.
  3. Do NOT skip meals! Eating breakfast as soon as you wake up is your metabolisms sign to get moving!  The longer you wait to eat, or the fewer meals you eat, your metabolism will stop doing its job.
  4. If you love spicy food, then you’re in luck. The spicier the food, the quicker your metabolism kicks into gear.
  5. Drink water!! Water is amazing.  It not only speeds up your metabolism, but it gives you better skin, rids your body of toxins, and keeps you hydrated.  Keep a 64oz. water bottle with you and drink away throughout the day!

Happy eating, sleeping, and working out!

It can be hard to eat healthy, especially when these so-called “healthy” foods turn out to be not-so-healthy after all!  It can be hard to tell the difference between healthy foods and ones that pose as them.  I’m breaking down a few “healthy” snacks that I used to enjoy all the time!  While I’m disappointed to find out how bad they are for you, luckily, there are plenty of alternatives!Chelsea Crockett- frozen yogurt

  1. I love veggies chips. I mean, veggie is in the name so they have to be healthy for you, right?! Unfortunately, they are packed full of vegetable powder, flour, sodium, and food coloring.  Instead, try eating raw veggies with hummus or making your own kale chips in the oven!
  2. Yogurt is one of my favorite snacks and it’s extremely good for you! A lot of restaurants and coffee shops make this healthy snack unhealthy by adding granola and sugar.  Not to mention, it’s easy to add a muffin to that order.  Stick to a small portion of regular or Greek yogurt with no toppings.
  3. Society has tricked us into thinking fiber is extra healthy for you. While it is necessary, fiber granola bars are not.  They are packed with powdered fiber, so they add sugar, honey, chocolate, or peanut butter to cover up the taste.  SO much sugar!  Eat granola bars that are packed full of whole grains and nuts instead!
  4. I liked to think that frozen yogurt was healthy for you because of the name. I’m sad to say that I was wrong.  It is full of sugar and of course those deadly toppings!  Try an at-home version with Greek yogurt.  Add fruit, granola, or dark chocolate to the mix!
  5. Since pita chips are baked they’re good for you, right?   Pita chips are made up of mostly white flour.  If you want something to snack on, make sure you grab whole grain pita chips for your hummus.
  6. Frozen meals are so easy to throw in the microwave, especially with my busy schedule; but have you ever looked at the ingredient list?! It’s full of sodium and chemicals I can’t even pronounce.  If you’re in a rush try making a turkey sandwich on whole wheat and a cup of fruit.

I challenge you to make healthy choices this week! Happy snacking!

Makeup Tricks to Score the Perfect Photo

Have you ever wondered how celebs take flawless photos over and over again? The secret lies in the makeup. The way in which you apply your makeup can change the way you look in pictures due to the lighting, flashes, etc. Check out a few of my favorite makeup tips for getting camera ready!Chelsea Crockett- photo ready makeup

  1. Make semi-matte makeup your new best friend. It will cover up any, if not all, blemishes, without giving you that “fake look” like complete matte makeup can. It won’t make your skin look shiny, but it won’t make it look flat either.
  2. Contouring is the best way to capture all of your features in the lens. It’s important to brighten and bronze in the correct places. Bronzer will keep you from looking washed out due to a camera flash.
  3. When it comes to eye makeup, it’s important to choose one or the other: a blended look or a sharp look. If you’re going for a more natural, blended look, be sure to blend in all of the eyeshadow colors and smudge your eye liner. If you want a sharp look, go for a bold, one color and straight eye liner line.
  4. Filling in your brows can be tricky. It’s hard not to make them look overly filled in. To avoid this problem, try using an eye shadow that is one shade light than your hair color. Lightly fill in your brows with a brush. This will keep them from looking harsh on camera.

If this doesn’t make you want to go take the perfect selfie, then I don’t know what does!

When I was little, my parents would always remind me: be nice to EVERYONE.  Still to this day they remind me.  I used to have trouble understanding this, “Why should I be nice to someone that treats me awful?  I’ll never have to see them again once I leave this school or quit this job”; but as I started growing up and maturing…it all made sense.Chelsea Crockett- character

Life has a funny way of working out.  Picture this.  Remember that boy that used to pick on you?  Or that nerd you used to make fun of?  Rewind 15 years later.  He’s your boss at your new job!  He’s turned his life around, is good to others, and has a Godly heart.  The last impression you made on your new boss was not a good one!  Don’t you wish you would have been nicer back in the day?

You always run the risk of running into your past.  Why not make it a good one?  If someone is mean to you…pray for them.  If someone is picking on you, don’t retaliate, but instead keep your head up.  See someone getting picked on?  Befriend them!  While you don’t have to be best friends with the people that treat you badly, it’s always important to be the bigger person.  Be nice…to EVERYONE.

Which Hair Extensions Are Right for You?

Have you ever had a bad haircut, maybe it was cut too short, or have you always wanted long, thick hair?!  Recently, one of my workers had a terrible haircut experience that resulted in her getting extensions.  What was meant to be a trim, turned into a good 5 inches being taken off.  She was mortified!  Lexi started exploring her options and decided to get extensions.  Curious, I started asking her all about them.  Here’s what she told me:

There are a wide variety of extensions to choose from and must be chosen carefully for each individual person.  While some are temporary, others can last months, and some can even damage your hair.  Depending on your hair type, picking out the correct extensions are crucial for a natural look.

  • Clip in extensions are great for temporary wear. They can be taken in and out and leave no damage to your hair.  You can wash and style these like real hair, but compared to other options, look the “fakest”.  You have to be careful where you place them!
  • Glue-in and pre-bonded extensions are small strands of hair fused with a heating machine to other strands of hair. While these look extremely natural, they require a lot of upkeep.  Avoid using conditioner or heat around the bonds.  This can loosen each bond making them fall out sooner or even break off your hair.
  • Sewn-in extensions are ideal for people with coarse, curly, or thick hair. They are applied by sewing the extension into a tight braid under your hair line.  This requires frequent trips to the salon to keep the braid tight and make sure the end is still tied.  If you have thin hair, I would avoid this option.
  • Tape extensions are my ultimate favorite. While they are quite pricier, they look the most natural and have the least upkeep.  They are applied with two strands of clear tape to different sections of hair.  If you are gentle with them and don’t use a brush around them, they can last months!Chelsea Crockett- tape extensions

Once you’ve chosen your extensions, have a stylist shape them to blend in with your natural hair.  Hope you love them!

XOXO,

Winter is quickly approaching and sometimes, it can be hard to dress cute with layers upon layers of clothing.  I live in the middle of the Midwest, so we get hit hard with snow storms every year.  Throughout the years, I’ve come across some amazing, warm pieces that everyone needs in their wardrobe.  Who says you can’t dress warm and look cute at the same time?!  Chelsea Crockett- cable knit beanie

  • Sorel boots are amazing! They come in all different styles and can keep your feet warm in negative degrees!   Pair them with tall wool socks and a long sweater.
  • Puffy coats are the definition of warmth. Many designers such as Michael Kors and BCBG have made the puffy coat chic by adding thick gold zippers, buttons, and different lengths.  I LOVE knee length puffy coats!
  • Beanies are fab! They can take any outfit to the next level of street style or grunge.  Try a thick cable knit beanie!
  • Vests are everything! It’s the perfect item to throw on during a chilly day.  If you’re looking for a classy look, add a flannel and some riding boots to the mix.
  • Ponchos are back in! They are absolutely amazing with a long sleeve under and some leather leggings.

Have a fabulous winter, Insiders!
