You can develop a relationship with the Lord starting any time, any day. Building a relationship with God is one of the most amazing things that he desires for each and every one of us.

As I began diving deeper and deeper into my walk with God, I would try different books, journals, devotionals, etc. that would help me do so. Through all the different things I collected, I found that some items aided in my relationship with God tremendously and wanted to share them with you!

A Bible.

First and foremost, you’ll need a Bible that suits your style. For me, I like journaling Bibles where I can write little notes and comments next to certain verses. It helps me remember what I’ve read and allows me to meditate on it. There are also study Bibles that provide further information on certain topics, stories, verses, etc. that can help clarify what it means!

With all of the different types of Bibles, you can find one that is easiest for you to read and understand. There are lots of styles of Bibles out there, so pick the version and type that will work best for you!

A prayer journal.

Prayer journals give you a place to write down anything you may be feeling and refer back to it in the future. I prayer journal on all occasions, when I’m feeling thankful, sad, frustrated, lost… Writing out my feelings is not only therapeutic, but helps me collect my thoughts and calm me down. My favorite thing to do is to go back and read what I’ve written in the past and see what God has done in my life!

A daily devotional.

Having a set daily devotional will encourage you to stay on track as well as give you a dose of God’s word every single day! I realized it gave me a sense of accountability to make sure I spent even as little as five minutes with God. Figure out what time of the day works best for your schedule and stick with it! I suggest first thing in the morning to start your day off on the right foot. Set your alarm for 10-20 minutes earlier than you normally would, and see how that small amount of time can impact your day and attitude!

Topic-specific books.

As you grow in your relationship with the Lord, you may begin having questions and curiosities about certain parts of the Bible. It’s completely normal to start wondering beyond the surface level. There are many books that will help you dive deeper into whatever topic you may be curious about! Jump in and discover all there is to know about God and his Word.

I encourage you to buy these items and get on track for an amazing relationship with God. We are fortunate enough to have so many resources to grow closer to him, so take advantage of them and start today! 🙂

Part-time Christianity: choosing to follow Christ at times that are convenient, but abandoning him when things get hard.

Sound familiar? We’re all guilty of being part-time Christians from time to time. The world can tempt us, question us, and pull us away from God, causing us to fall short. But the hardest part is making a conscious effort to get back on track and remember who our heavenly Father is after all.

1 Kings 8:61 says, “Let your heart therefore be wholly devoted to the Lord our God, to walk in His statutes and to keep His commandments, as at this time.”

God asks us to be wholly devoted, committed, and surrendered to him. He asks us for a fully committed life, not only in times of need or in times of praise. If we only followed Christ during the good times in our life, then living a Christian life would be easy. But God doesn’t call us to an easy life, he calls us to a life of devotion which leads to true joy, God’s grace, and so much more.

I witness a lot of people being one person with their friends, another at church, another with their family, etc. Their morals, values, words, and actions all change depending on who they’re with or where they’re at. I know I’ve been guilty of this at times, whether I like to admit it or not.

This is one area where part-time Christianity oftentimes takes over. People think it’s okay to only follow Christ around others that are doing the same.

We all know people that are guilty of this, referring to even each of us at times. But it’s especially important to avoid switching up our actions and personalities around those who take notice. When people know you’re a follower of Christ, they expect our words and actions to match our beliefs. If we’re not practicing what we preach, then what’s the point of following Christ in the first place?

Other times it comes from a place of aggravation. We get so frustrated with God during the hard times in our lives that we abandon him when we need him most. Something goes wrong and we doubt God instead of thinking of it as a blessing in disguise. Sometimes we even shut him out instead of praying and talking to him.

These are all situations in which you could be tempted to become a part-time Christian. But I assure you, sticking it out with Christ is the best thing you could do. God would never give up on us, so why would be abandon a god that is so gracious, loving, and forgiving? Whether times get hard or the world is against you, do your best to remain unaffected, living the life God created you to live.

Myth-Busters: The Truth About God & the Bible

People love to jump to conclusions about God and the Bible. They make assumptions about who God is and the meaning behind different scriptures and verses. But the truth is,…

People love to jump to conclusions about God and the Bible. They make assumptions about who God is and the meaning behind different scriptures and verses.

But the truth is, there is so much more joy, knowledge, and certainty behind Christianity that so many people don’t know about. I’m here to break some of the well-known “myths” that often revolve around God, his love for us, and what the Bible really means.

MYTH: The Bible was written thousands of years ago so it doesn’t apply today.

TRUTH: Although the Bible is a historic book written years and years ago, we, as Christians, still use it as a compass and tool today and for the days to come. God didn’t intend for the Bible to be forgotten about or not taken as seriously in the present day. If we believe that God is all-knowing, of the past, present, and future, then we should also believe that he knew the Bible would still be used today and for all the days to come. Lean on its word and believe the truth that’s inside!

MYTH: Being a Christian means you lose the freedom to do what you want to do, when you want to do it.

TRUTH:
People often think that God gives us rules to live by to take away our “fun” or our freedom. This is the furthest from the truth. God gives us a set of rules to live by because he knows what’s best for us. When we do life God’s way, we discover his truth and the joy that comes along with it. Try it for yourself!

MYTH: Prayer doesn’t really make a difference.

TRUTH: Prayer is powerful! It truly does make a difference. Without prayer, we have no way to sit and have a conversation with God.

1 John 5:14-15 says, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him.”

We know that prayer makes a difference because it says so numerous times throughout the Bible. We can have the confidence in knowing that God really does hear us and desires the best for us. If you believe in scripture, then it is so clear that God uses prayer as a gateway to hear our requests and praises, and point us in the direction he wants us to go.

MYTH: It’s hard to believe in a God you can’t see.

TRUTH: 1 Peter 1:8 says, “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.” Sometimes it can be hard when we can’t directly hear God’s voice or see that he’s right beside us, but I promise you he always is! He is constant, present, and knows our innermost being. He’s our heavenly father that gave so much for us so we could live our days freely in his everlasting presence! Try leaning on him and you’ll start to feel the warmth and love of Christ all around you.

Don’t always jump to conclusions or assume what you hear about God and the Bible is true. Dive into his word and discover the truth for yourself! 🙂

When life throws a loop at you, it can be easy to question God.  Why does he take people we love away from us?  Why did I just lose my job?  Why are my friends being mean?  Situations like these can make God’s love feel almost invisible.  One must always remember that God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers.  While it may seem hard to believe, God is always right next to you fighting these battles.  You are never alone and God’s love never fails.  When you start to question this, keep these in mind: Chelsea Crockett- Gods love

John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Romans 5:8 – “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  God loves us at our darkest.

1 John 3:1 – “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”

Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  He has a plan!

1 John 4:19 – “We love, because He first loved us.”

Mathew 6:34 – “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”  God will take your worries for you.

God is good and his love endures forever!

Hey insiders!  As you guys know, I am a very strong Christian and have an amazing relationship with God.  Being involved in my church and youth group has impacted my life in such a positive way that I wanted to share the importance of it with you all.

Going to church regularly is a great habit and it’s never too late to start.  Whether you’re 10 or 80 years old, joining a church and getting to know Jesus will completely change your life.  Going every Sunday builds your relationship with God and expands your faith in the Lord.Chelsea Crockett - Bible

Now if you’re in your teenage years, joining your church’s youth group is an awesome way to meet new friends and develop an even stronger bond with God.  The people in church are perfect to surround yourself with because they influence you in the best Christian-like ways.  Some youth groups are lucky enough to go on mission trips and spread the Word of God even farther.  Some missions provide help to certain communities.  Others simply go and tell people what Jesus did for us and what he continues to do for us every day.

If you don’t have a “home” church, or one you go to every Sunday, try to visit some surrounding churches and see which service is best for you.  It’s okay to try different locations to see which one fits you.  I have been blessed to find such a great church and youth group to grow with God in and I hope you all will, too!

“Praise Him for His mighty deeds; praise Him according to his excellent greatness!” Psalm 150:2

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
