5 Prom Myths for the First-Year Prom Goers

My first time going to prom, I had several questions and expectations about what prom would actually be like.  You may be thinking that prom is just like the movies, which in some ways it is… But in others, it’s just the opposite.  Here are 5 busted prom myths for the first-year prom goers!

  • You can’t go if you don’t have a date. Wrong!  Chelsea Crockett - PromYou can absolutely go solo!  Don’t let not having a date stop you from having a great night with your friends.  Make tons of memories whether you go with someone or not.
  • Prom is always expensive. That’s not always the case!  You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on your dress, shoes, etc.  If you shop smart, you can look like a million bucks at prom without spending much at all.
  • Prom night is going to be just like it is in the movies… Not exactly! Although prom night has a lot of potential, don’t stress if it’s not the absolute best night of your life.  That being said, it can also be everything you want it to be!
  • You absolutely HAVE to go to prom. Although I highly encourage it, you don’t have to go to prom!  If it’s not really your thing, don’t feel like it’s mandatory.
  • Winning prom queen is the most important thing about prom. Although prom king and queen are a pretty big deal, it’s not the only thing that happens at prom.  Don’t feel too bad if you’re not on the list of nominees!

Now that you know a little more of what to expect, make the most of your prom night!  Remember, you only do high school once!

Love, Chelsea

School is back in session and as students, we can use all the help we can get!  With technology nowadays, there are so many new websites that are super useful for writing papers, studying, etc.  I wanted to share with you a few websites that will definitely come in handy this school year!

  • Quizlet.  With Quizlet, you can create your own flashcards and other study games to memorize whatever info you need to!  You can even use flashcards made by other students on the same topic if you’re too lazy to make them yourself!
  • EasyBib.  As long as your teacher isn’t super strict on citations, then this site is for you!  If you ever need quick MLA citations, all EasyBib needs is a URL and it’ll turn it into a perfect citation for your source!
  • PlagTracker.  PlagTracker allows you to copy and paste your essay into the website to check for any signs of plagiarism.  Sometimes you may’ve unintentionally copied a sentence or two without even knowing it!Chelsea Crockett - Rate My Professor
  • Rate My Professors.  This app can make or break your college career!  It lets you search your teacher and see various students’ reviews and ratings like the picture on the right.  It can really give you a heads up or even encourage you to switch classes before it’s too late!
  • KeepMeOut.  This website is so cool!  You type in which sites you want to block and you won’t be allowed to access them for the amount of time you set!  If you have trouble staying off Twitter and Instagram while studying, then this is perfect for you!

I hope these websites help you no matter what grade you’re going into this year!  I know I’ll be using some of them myself! 🙂

College orientation is a good place to meet people and get prepared for your first year as a college student. Along with a lot of you, I just graduated high school, so orientation is coming up! There are certain things you must do during orientation. That being said, there are also things you must avoid, as well!

DO’S

  • Dress appropriately for the occasion! You will be meeting a lot of other students and even counselors of your new school.
  • Be social! Depending on where you go to college, there’s a big chance of you not knowing many people. Be talkative and engage in conversation. Everyone else there is trying to make friends just like you!
  • Ask questions. It’s hard to know what to expect when you leave for college. Orientation is supposed to answer some of those questions! Be curious and attentive in the seminars, meetings, etc.Chelsea Crockett - College Orientation

DON’TS

  • Don’t forget to bring all of your orientation essentials (especially if it’s overnight). Pack the right clothes along with everything the school requires. You may need to fill out forms or packets before arriving!
  • Don’t go unprepared. There are tons of things you’ll need to consider before orientation: which classes you want to take, how many credit hours of classes you want, etc. Have an idea in your head of what you want your schedule to look like!

I hope you have a successful college orientation :)!

P.E. is us girls’ most dreaded class: getting sweaty, rushing to get dressed, and running to your next class. I’d rather not! Whether you have a P.E. teacher that treats class like boot camp or only have it for one semester, you’ll need some tips for refreshing after. Here are a few tricks I’ve learned throughout my high school years, maybe they’ll help you, too!

If you have first hour P.E., you know the real struggle. First off, you can keep a few products in your backpack or gym locker for quick use. A trick I learned is, after you get all sweaty during class, using a baby wipe or makeup remover wipe and cleaning off your face with it (avoid taking off your eye makeup!). Then, reapply with a quick powder foundation if you have the time! Wiping off your face will remove any sweat or bacteria that’s left behind after class, which will help avoid acne from forming!

Chelsea Crockett - Tribal HeadbandNext, consider keeping some deodorant and/or perfume in your locker. This will make you feel and smell like you never even went to class! Also, carry a couple cute headbands with you. If your P.E. likes to mess up your hair, you can throw it in a messy bun or braid and rock a headband like the one on the left! These are super in right now and can be found at tons of stores like Forever 21 or Earthbound.

I hope these tips help you out after your gym class! Good luck!

School supplies are soooooo boring!  I’d have to say, the standard notebook isn’t very appealing to the eye.  If you aren’t able to buy binders, folders, and notebooks in multiple colors, it can be tough to tell your classes apart.  Instead of using a black sharpie to designate a folder to each class, try personalizing it with a few of these crafty tips!Chelsea Crockett- personalized school supplies

  1. Create a backdrop for binders! Using a binder with a clear pocket on the front, print off a piece of paper with a fun design and font with your name and class on it and slide it in the pocket. Now you’ve got a one-of-a-kind binder!
  2. Grab some stickers! Sticker letters are a fun way to label school supplies without being boring. Try labeling your notebook in glitter or neon letters to add a little fun to your supplies.
  3. If you want to get extra crafty, try buying small decals of your first initial. You can use these to wrap around pencils, highlighters, and pens!

Comment below if you have any great ideas for personalized school supplies!  It’s an easy way to make going back to school a little more exciting!

Love,

Hey insiders!  When it comes to joining a new school, I think of nerves and wanting to fit in.  Some of you may have moved to a new state and already have butterflies about the first day of class.  Others could be transitioning into high school or junior high.  Whatever it is, we all have those first-day-of-school nerves that we just can’t shake off!  Here are a few tips to help calm you down.Chelsea Crockett - School

#1: Be yourself!  When it comes to making new friends, being yourself is the perfect way to find a group of friends that fit you.  This way you can have fun without trying to be someone you’re not.

#2: Join clubs!  Whether it’s a volleyball or art club, you’ll be sure to find people with the same interests as you!  You’ll also have a fun time while doing it!

#3: Don’t get into the wrong crowd!  If you ever feel yourself uncomfortable with your new group of friends, don’t feel the need to stay with it.  Peer pressure is an awful thing and it’s easier to get out in the beginning than trying to use the same excuses over and over again.

Joining a new school is not as nearly as bad as everyone thinks!  With these tips, there’s no need to be nervous.  Just be yourself and have fun!
