Keeping my closet neat and organized isn’t one of my best strengths… With lots of clothes and shoes, a girl can get a little overwhelmed with finding space for everything, especially when space is limited.  I discovered a few organizing hacks that I find really helpful when it comes to keeping my closet together!

  • Use soda tabs to hang two shirts at once. Chelsea Crockett - Closet RackYou can place a hanger through one hole of the soda tab and a hanger through the second hole.  This serves as a double hanger for your shirts leaving you more hanging room in your closet.
  • Use a hanging shoe organizer for multiple purposes. You can hang one of these on your closet door or somewhere else inside your closet.  Of course, you can use it to store your shoes, but you can also store things like underwear, socks, bras, shorts, swimsuits, etc. in it, as well!
  • Purchase a second closet rack like the picture on the right. These can act as another storage space and as a piece of décor for your room!  If you have limited closet space, hang your thicker sweaters, jackets, and coats on your second rack to free up some more space.

Are you going to try any of these out?  Let me know how they work for you!  Also, share with me any organizing tips of your own below! 🙂

When winter starts to roll in, there are certain things to do to prepare your closet for the cold weather ahead.  I always make sure my wardrobe is ready for the season, whether it be summer or winter.  Make sure you check these essentials off your list so you can be ready, too!

  • Change your closet from warm to cold.  My closet used to get extremely cluttered with all of my summer and winter clothes stuffed together.  Switch out all of your shorts and sandals for pants and booties!Chelsea Crockett - Winter Outift
  • Purchase a neutral, warm coat that will go with a majority of your outfits.  Finding a coat that is both stylish and keeps you warm is key for the cold weather!
  • Also, purchase a good pair of snow/rain boots.  Especially if you’re in college, walking to class in the snow without a good pair of boots will be awful!
  • Know how to layer.  When it comes to looking stylish in the winter, layering up with different shirts and jackets is a necessity.  I sometimes find it hard to find a cute outfit to wear and be warm at the same time.  Knowing how to layer like a pro is the perfect way to achieve this!
  • Purchase the perfect winter accessories that go with your style.  Accessories such as beanies, scarves, high socks, tights, etc. are the best way to spice up your outfit and make your outfit warmer at the same time!  You get the best of both worlds, right?

I hope you’re all prepared for an awesome winter ahead!

Outfits For When You Feel Like You Have Nothing to Wear

One of the best things about shopping is finding an item that makes you feel so confident and that you totally love. The bad thing about it is that after a little while, that same item of clothing can become “meh” to you. It doesn’t matter how much you loved the item when you bought it, it is inevitable that over time it will lose its appeal. We all know the feeling of looking into our closet and thinking “I have NOTHING to wear…!”, and it isn’t that we literally have nothing to wear, it is that we got bored with our options. When that feeling hits, it is good to have a few go-to outfits to turn to when everything else feels “blah.” Here are a few no-fail looks for when this happens!

  1. White on white: I love to play with color in my outfits, but sometimes going bold isn’t what you are feeling. Opt for an all-white outfit if you are feeling like you are out of options. It is a nice alternative to all-black, and you are totally okay to toss the “no white after labor day” rule out the door. Some good white combos are white skinny jeans with an over-sized white or cream sweater, or the always-trendy skinny jeans and a white tee.8233211788949221_awdrklyr_f
  2. Rolled jeans and booties: This is a great fall outfit. Cuff the hem of your favorite jeans paired with low-heal booties and wear an oxford shirt, sweater, or create a layered look with a vest or cardigan. This is an effortlessly casual and easy look to toss together.
  3. Skinny jeans and a textured shirt: This look is all about contrast. Jeans may feel too casual for certain settings, but if you pair them with a dressier shirt or blouse with texture like ruffles or fringe then your jeans will automatically look more dressed-up. You could even pair a silk blouse with a nice pair of jeans and booties for a dressier ensemble. Jeans can easily be dressed up or down.

Another quick fix for the “I have nothing to wear” blues is to look up outfit inspiration on Pinterest and focus on photos of people wearing items that you have in your closet. This will help give you ideas on new ways to wear and pair the clothes you already have!

Recently, I’ve been brainstorming how I want my dorm room to look like. I’ve found different decorations and necessities to style my dorm the way I want it. With only so much space in your dorm room, you’re going to need some hacks to make moving in a little easier! You’ll also need some hacks for making your dorm as stylish as it can be, too!

  • Most residence halls at college will allow you to put your beds whatever way you want them. You can bunk them, loft them, or leave them normal. Lofting your bed gives you a whole new area of storage under your bed! You can put your clothes in plastic drawers or bins and store them easily.
  • iPhone chargers can be hard to tell apart, especially if you’re living with a few roommates. Customize yours by adding colorful tape or simply writing your initials on it so you don’t lose it!Chelsea Crockett - Dorm Hanger Hack
  • Dropdown hangers allow you to store your shirts and dresses much easier. The picture on the right shows you just how much space they can save!
  • For storing your jewelry, purchase a cork board that you can decorate to match your dorm room. After hanging it on the wall, you can use tacks to hang all of your necklaces! It works perfectly!

I hope these make your dorm experience a little easier! (I’ll definitely be using some of these myself!) 🙂

The rustic theme and aesthetic has become a popular trend when it comes to decorating. Items and décor that give off an antique feel are popping up in almost every home or décor store. If you’re not into the whole rustic theme, you can make this DIY sleeker and more fashionable, whatever you prefer!

First off, you’ll need to find a spot in your room that gives you enough space to put your rack. Second, you’ll need to pick out your rack! Chelsea Crockett - Clothing RackThere are plenty to choose from based on color, texture, etc. Some you can even buy with the “worn” look that gives it more of an antique feel. Although most of your bedrooms probably have closets, you can make your own rack for decoration! You can even choose what type of clothing you’ll hang on it. The example on the left uses it for jackets and coats… whatever you want to do!

Another fun part of creating the “look” for your rack is what type of hangers you use. I would prefer matching my hangers with the theme or colors of my room. Your rack will look much more put together when you make it look like a piece of your room. I suggest storing your shoes or purses under the rack where there’s extra room. It keeps your clothing organized and makes your room cuter, too :)!

Let me know how you design yours!

How to Cleanse your Wardrobe

We’ve all heard of detox cleanses, hair cleanses, even juice cleanses! But, have you ever heard of a wardrobe cleanse? Yes, ladies. Even your wardrobe could use a little detoxing. Here is how to give your closet a healthy little cleanse.

  1. Think about it: Ask yourself these questions when going through your clothes:cool-old-clothes-floor
  • Is it comfortable?
  • Does it fit right?
  • Is it damaged?
  • Do I really like it?

If you said “well…no…” to any of the questions above, you know what you need to do.

  1. Watch your wallet: Just because you are getting rid of clothes doesn’t mean you get to go out and buy a whole bunch more to replace them! This process is mean to “trim the fat” in your wardrobe and weed out the clothes you really don’t want/need.
  2. Discover your style: As you get older and become more aware of what looks good on you and what styles you are drawn to, you tend to buy more items that fit into that style. When you know what your “style” is, you are able to get rid of items you know aren’t really “you.”
  3. Consolidate: Now that you have purged your closet, clean ‘er up! I like to organize my shirts so they are sorted by color. That is just one of the ways I keep my closet orderly, and it helps me feel less cluttered and I am able to find things easier!

Now, ladies, get to detoxing

How to Become more Stylish

We all have that one outfit that is our “go-to” outfit. When we cannot find a single thing we want to wear, this is the outfit we fall back on. Or, you just love the ensemble so much that you just love wearing it. Whatever the case, we all fall into fashion ruts. Lucky for you, digging yourself out of the rut is super easy. So grab a shovel and let’s get to it!

  1. Step out of your comfort zone: Do you have an article of clothing that you absolutely adore but have never photo (4)worn because it is not something you usually wear or that people around you wear? Forget other people, wear what you want to wear! Making a statement with your clothes is so much fun, and you will get so many compliments from those around you!
  2. Clean out your closet: Cleaning out your closet helps you get an idea of what clothes you wear a lot, what clothes you don’t wear very much but should, and clothes that you’ve never worn (aka the ones with tags still attached). Cleaning out your closet also helps make room for things that you actually need.
  3. Find your perfect shade of lipstick: Wearing lipstick makes me feel powerful. Lipstick is the perfect motivator. How? Let me ask you this: are you tempted to throw on a tshirt and leggings when wearing red lipstick? No ma’am. You want to work that lipstick with a fierce outfit. It motivates you to dress things up!
  4. People watch: No, I don’t mean stare at them uncomfortably. What I mean is when you are out in public pay attention to the different styles people are wearing around you. When you are sitting at Starbucks with your bff, take a leisurely look around at what other girls are wearing and pick out outfits that you would wear or that you like. This will give you inspiration on how you can use different pieces in your closet or how you can switch things up!

Are you ready to become the more stylish version of yourself? So am I!

How to build your wardrobe part 4: Put it all together!

Now that you’ve filled your closet with pieces that fit great, look great, and are pieces that you love, it’s time to put it all together!

Is there a better feeling than looking in your closet and seeing a bunch of pretty new things you can’t wait to wear? It is amazing! There’s a few things you can do to help take full advantage of your new, fabulous wardrobe.

Step 1: Would You Still Buy It?
Now that you have your new purchases at home and are done shopping, try everything on again. Sometimes a dressing room is not the best place to determine how a piece really looks on you. The lighting may have been bad, you maybe didn’t havethe right underwear on, etc. Are you still excited to wear the piece? Maybe it is not as cute as you thought. This is the time to go through your purchases and make sure you really love them!

 Step 2: Start Styling!

Plan at least one outfit for each new piece. Put together a whole look, from the shoes to the accessories! Make sure to incorporate pieces that you already had into the looks also.

 Step 3: Create a Lookbook

Once you have an outfit all worked out, take a picture of it or write it down. When it’s time to get dressed later on, you won’t struggle to remember what pants, or shirt, or scarf looked best. It’s also a great way to help you get dressed when you’re in a hurry!

Step 4: Work Those new Clothes!

I know I know, this is such a tough one ;). You’ve done a ton of work for this wardrobe, now it’s time to go out and show off your new pieces!

I hope that this process has helped you build a wardrobe that makes you feel confident, beautiful, and like a total fashionista! Your clothes should work for you, not the other way around. So, try every day to get dressed in something that puts a smile on your face!

Keep smiling darlings,

How to build your wardrobe part 3: time to go shopping!

You’ve cleaned out your closet, defined your personal style, and now it’s time for my favorite part! SHOPPING!

When most people go to fill their closet back up, they just buy random pieces that they like. Shopping like that doesn’t build a sturdy wardrobe. Before you head to the store this time, there’s a little more work to be done.

chelsea crockett shopping list

Step 1: Make A Shopping List

Look through your current clothing and take note of the pieces you’re missing. Which pieces are you always reaching for but never have? Next, move to your style list that we created in part 2. What pieces do you need to add to your wardrobe so you can achieve your desired style? Remember to look for the pieces and styles you saw repeating in your inspiration.

Step 2: Prioritize Your Purchases

Go through your shopping list and prioritize which pieces will have the most impact in your wardrobe at the current time. Start with the basics, or the pieces you’ll wear most often. Then move on to the pieces you need to start or finish your inspiration looks. These are the pieces that tie everything together. The lowest on the list might be things like accessories or pieces similar to what’s already in your closet. If you’re on a budget, your priority items will be the first things to shop for, and then slowly work down your list as your budget allows.

Step 3: In-Store vs. Online

Shopping in the store will give you instant gratification. You will be able to add the purchases to your closet right away and will be able to see how they work with the rest of your wardrobe.

Shopping online has benefits as well! When you shop online, you can be in the comfort of your own home! Everyone has their own preference on which way to shop.

Don’t be afraid to try a trend or style that may be different from what you’re used to wearing. But remember, if it doesn’t fit great, look great, and feel great, it’s not part of your perfect wardrobe. Also, don’t get frustrated if shopping feels difficult or unsuccessful. Once you start, it will get easier, I promise!

Every girl dreams of having the perfect wardrobe, fully stocked with adorable clothes for every occasion. Am I right? Today I am going to give youi some tips on how to build the wardrobe of your dreams!

Step 1: Clean Up!

*Clean up your room. Going through your closet in an already messy room will just create a big, exasperating, overwhelming disaster. Clean up your room and make space to lay out your clothes.

*Clean up yourself. Do your hair and make up! When you try on clothes, anything you try on will look better if you’re looking good too!

Step 2: Get To Work!Chelsea crockett how to build a wardrobe

*Pick out a basic top & bottom, like jeans and a white tee, to try on with your pieces. If you’re trying on a top, wear the jeans and vice versa with the white tee.

* Go through one category at a time. I recommend you do all tops at once, all skirts, and so on. It’s easier to determine if you have duplicates or similar pieces. This also helps you from getting overwhelmed!

*Start with the clothes you don’t need to try on. These may be closet staples like black & white tanks/tees, uniforms, that sort of thing. Put them in the STAY pile. Things that are stained, ripped, damaged, move them to the GO pile.

Step 3: Go Through Your Piles!

*If you ended up with a lot of items in your stay pile, try and re-evaluate. Be realistic! You’re trying to build a wardrobe you love!

*Divide your GO pile into pieces that need to be thrown away, donated, and sold.

Don’t be overwhelmed with cleaning out your closet! Try doing just one or two categories of clothes in a day rather than everything in one sitting. Once you get the hang of cleaning things out, it will become easier to part with pieces. I know I sometimes have a hard time getting rid of clothing because I think “You never know, someday I might need this!” but when the going gets tough, just remember, you’re working towards building a wardrobe you love with clothes you’ll be excited to wear every day! You can do it, ladies!

Keeping my room clean is a HUGE struggle.  I’ve got clothes everywhere, magazines scattered all over my bed, and makeup upon makeup all over my vanity.  So how do I fix this problem?  I’ve finally come up with multiple organization tips that have really helped me keep my room clean and will benefit you as well.  Let’s get started!

Clothes, clothes, and more clothes…how do you fit so many clothes in a small closet?!  I only hang up nicer clothes, like dresses, skirts, and nice shirts.  The rest, I fold and organize by type: pajamas, shorts, tees, tanks, etc.  This way, you can find what you’re looking for easily.  Just place in drawers and voilà!Chelsea Crockett- Organization Tips                If you’re a makeup guru like me, then you’ve got lots of brushes.  A cute way to store your brushes is to place them in a fish bowl.  Sounds weird, I know, but trust me!  Add fun colored sand, rocks, or seashells to the bottom of the fish bowl and then place the brushes upside down so they stand upright.  It’s a cute, stylish way to showcase your makeup brushes.  Just place them on your vanity and there you go!  Cubbies are probably the greatest organization tool around.  They come in all sorts of colors and hold just about anything.  I like to keep cubbies under my bed and place all of my magazines in them. That way, I can access my magazines quick and easy.  It looks good too!  You can find the perfect sized cubbies right here on Amazon:http://tiny.cc/Cubbies.  Last, jewelry racks can be purchased at Target and display your jewelry in a cute and classy way.  It makes everything easy to find and it’s sort of like a decoration for the room.  Apply these tips and your room will be nice and organized!

Ps- Don’t forget about your laundry. Wink

Whether your closet is large or small, walk-in or a sliding door, it’s important to use your space wisely.  Too many teenagers find it easy to throw all of their clothes in their closet without actually folding them or hanging them up.  It can also be easy to throw all of your shoes in one big pile up!  I’ll confess I’m guilty of all of this!  Lately, I’ve been organizing my closet and have found it to be so much easier than I had imagined!  Check out my tips for utilizing your closet…the right way!Chelsea Crockett- color coded closet

  1. Command strips are your best friend. Hang them everywhere! They’re perfect for hanging purses, scarves, hats, etc.
  2. Find the right hangers and get rid of your old metal ones. Metal hangers make it easy for your clothes to constantly fall off. Try velvet hangers, or ones with arm slits. This way you won’t have to worry about fixing your clothes.
  3. Try grouping your clothes! Whether it’s by color or style, next time you’re looking for a specific shirt or dress, you’ll know right where it is!
  4. Slide your belt buckle over the top hook and hang for the perfect belt display!
  5. Try using dividers in your drawers to keep items like underwear, socks, and bras separate. Now you won’t be digging to find what you need!
  6. If you have a large gap or extra space in your closet, try throwing up a tension rod. This will add more space to hang clothes!

By trying a few of these tips, I promise…you will soon have a stress free closet!  Good luck organizing!

Love,

Whenever you are cleaning out your closet, it would be totally helpful to have some guidelines and pointers, am I right?Today I am going to give you a few questions to ask yourself while you are cleaning out your closet that will hopefully make the process go easier and smoother!
1.  Does it fit me right now? – We all have those items in our closet that we say “when I lose a few pounds, THEN ill be able to fit into it”, but unless it’s within 1 size (2 max) from your current size, let it go to a new home! Don’t get me wrong, having clothes that give you motivation to work out and lose weight are great, but make sure that they are a realistic size!

2. Is it flattering? – Just because something ‘fits’ does not mean that it is flattering. Does the color wash you out? Does the fabric give you lumps & bumps? If so, let it go! You want to wear clothes that make you look and feel confident and beautiful!chelsea crockett closet organization

3.Do I love it? Would I re-buy it? – I know you are not over the moon for every single piece of clothing in your closet, but if you don’t love it anymore, put it in the GO pile! The other question to ask yourself is “If I was at a store and saw this piece of clothing, would I buy it again?” If not, say bye bye!

4. Will I actually wear it?  Does it fit my lifestyle? – We have all bought that fab skirt or daring heels thinking we would find somewhere to wear them. Years later, they’re still in the closet, collecting dust, with the tags still on them. Donate them to a resale shop and give someone else a chance to rock ’em!

Good luck cleaning out your closets ladies!

Hey darlings!  In my opinion, organization is the key to everything, especially when trying to keep your room clean.  We ALL struggle with this, but with a few tips it’s not as hard as you think to keep your room clean!

  1. Hanging Space.  If you have a large amount of clothes, try buying smaller hangers.  Avoiding big, bulky hangers will provide more space for your actual clothes.  Try dividing your clothes up into categories (sweaters, jackets/coats, shirts, etc…).  This will make it easier to find things and disappear that cluttered closet look.Chelsea Crockett - Organization
  2. Shoes and Purses.  Having a separate spot for your bags and shoes is a smart idea.  This will help you avoid throwing and shoving your things repeatedly in your closet.  We all know it starts to get overwhelming when your stuff piles in the floor of your closet.  Plus, it looks super messyFrown!
  3. Fold Your Clothes.  If you fold certain clothes such as plain T-shirts or hoodies, make sure you avoid piling.  Throwing your clothes into boxes, cubbies, or shelves will result in lots of clutter.  Make sure you keep your things neat and folded!
  4.  Cubbies.  Almost anywhere you can find cubbies or boxes to place your clothing.  Hanging shelves or cubbies are a perfect spot to put shoes or your folded tees for perfect organization.

As far as other accessories go, come up with a creative way to keep your things organized that works for you.  I hope these tips help you stay clean, organized, and clutter-free!
