Ah the start of a new school year!  New people, new classes, and NEW CLOTHES!  Back to school clothes shopping is always a fun way to take your mind off the school work ahead.  Purchasing staple pieces for back-to-school wear is essential in creating the perfect wardrobe!  Check out my key pieces to create your dream outfits for this fall.

  1. Army Jacket: This jacket can be worn with almost anything! Throw it on over a dress to make it more casual or dress it up with a scarf and boots. It’s the simplest thrown on, throw off jacket!
  2. Rain Boots: Fall is a season of rain and snow. Having a pair of rain boots on hand is perfect for those days! Try wearing a pair of tall socks under your boots for cold, snowy days!
  3. Tans and Browns: Fall is the perfect time to break out your tan and brown clothing. Not to mention, it matches EVERYTHING! It’s important to have a few tan/brown sweaters and tees to throw on with any outfit.
  4. Riding Boots: Class up any outfit with a pair of these!Chelsea Crockett- riding boots
  5. Vests: Nothing completes an outfit like a good vest. Try pairing a vest with a button up or sweater to add warmth and style to your outfit. They’re also super cute!
  6. Oversized Plaid Shirts: This is the ultimate comfy clothing item. Wear it buttoned up with a pair of distressed jeans or leggings, or wear it open with a tee. Add to the grungy look by throwing on a pair of combat boots and a beanie (for those bad hair days).

Putting together outfits and shopping for one them is a girl’s favorite hobby.  It’s one of mine!  I mean, I am a beauty and fashion guru!  Have fun expanding your back-to-school wardrobe!

Have a safe and exciting school year!

Shopping is definitely one of my favorite hobbies.  If you’re like me, you have a hard time resisting a great buy!  Unfortunately there is an evil side to shopping.  It takes all your money!  It’s such an expensive habit!  A great way to keep your closet rotating with new clothes is to borrow!  Now, don’t keep their clothes, but simply borrow for a few wears!  It’s a great way to feel like you have new clothes without breaking the bank.Chelsea Crockett- borrowing clothes

It’s great having friends the same size as you.  To be fair when borrowing, let them borrow one of your skirts in exchange for one of theirs.  This way you’ll remember to give back their shirt and won’t keep it forever!  Another fun place to borrow from is your moms’ closet.  I’m sure many of you are thinking, “EW, my mom and I DO NOT have the same style!”  Well, think again.  Check out her sweaters and accessories.  A simple cardigan can change any look, and a “new” pair of earrings can make you feel like a million bucks!  Also, ask if she’s kept any clothes from her teenage years.  You might be surprised at what you find!

Have fun borrowingSmile

If you’re like me, you have that favorite pair of jeans that you wear over and over again!  Thank goodness denim doesn’t go out of style.  Although styles change, a trendy pair of jeans is always in!  Here are some tips to help keep your jeans looking as fresh as they did the day you bought them.

Jeggings are like a second pair of skin that you can slide into. They are stretchy, supportive, and stylish!  When you wash your jeggings/jeans, turn them inside out. I suggest using cold water and the delicate cycle.  Also, try to avoid using a hot dryer to dry your jeans. Hang them to dry or put the dryer on air only. This will prevent shrinkage. (Hint: It’s ok not to wash your jeans every time you wear them. Your jeans conform to your body and when you wash them they lose their shape.)Chelsea Crockett - Jean Styles

If you go to put your jeans on and they are feeling a bit tight, you can dampen, iron, and stretch them a bit especially around the waist.  Lastly, when you fold your jeans to put in your closet or drawers, don’t pack them too tightly. Denim fibers need air to breathe.

The best part about denim jeans is they come in every shape, style, and size.  The choices are endless:  curvy, skinny, faded, flare, coated, classic black. Whatever your look is, you can follow these tips to help your style last as long as possible!

Everybody wants in on all things quicker and cheaper. Whether it’s easy beauty fixes or affordable DIY shorts, we want to hear it! I’ve discovered a few fashion hacks that work well and don’t empty your wallet!Chelsea Crockett - Closet Rack

  • Rub a pair of jeans on your shirt to get rid of deodorant stains. It’s definitely not the first thing you think of to get rid of stains! Make sure you use an older pair of jeans that won’t rub any color off on your shirt. It’s as simple as that!
  • We’ve all had that day where our moms ask us to get rid of any clothes we don’t wear anymore. Then we find ourselves frantically searching for any clothes to throw out! Here’s a tip: turn all of your hangers a certain way. Then, whenever you put something back in your closet, switch the hanger the opposite way. After a certain amount of time, you can see which clothes you’ve actually worn lately! Problem solved!
  • If you’ve ever sat on your bed untangling a necklace for half an hour, this tip’s for you! You’ll need to buy a box of tiny zip-lock bags and something to keep your jewelry in (jewelry box, sectioned container, etc.) Then, take each piece of jewelry and place them in a separate bag. You can organize the bags in several different ways such as by necklaces, bracelets, and earrings or by how casual to how dressy each piece is… however you think it will be easiest to keep organized!

Learn to love layering. That is my one huge piece of advice when it comes to winter weather. Once you have perfected this extremely useful art, you can use it to create one of a kind outfits and form your own personal style. I am going to show you some examples of outfits so you have visual examples!

1.  This outfit combines a sleek vest, a plaid flannel, a chambray denim shirt, and a striped long-sleeved shirt. They tossed in a simple statement necklace to add a little pazazz to the outfit and to spice up the ensemble.

2. This preppy look combines a hot pink vest, a cream colored sweater, and a checked button-up blowse. This color combo is to die for! I also love how they threw in a gold statement watch and some sassy bangles to tie the outfit together. They finished off the outfit with a pair of dark wash skinnies. Perf!

 4dbbe80ec3f4b3262fdf7bbf386cdfeb

   3. This combo is probably my favorite of them all. It has a sort of rustic, country feel to it, ya know? This outfit combines an army vest with a striped sweater and a chambray denim shirt. I love the subtle colors in the chunky pastel scarf! It pulls the green in the vest and the navy in the pants together, as well as the tan booties.

Have you learned a lesson in layering? I hope the answer is “yes!” Don’t be afraid to try any of these combos this fall and winter!

How to Become more Stylish

We all have that one outfit that is our “go-to” outfit. When we cannot find a single thing we want to wear, this is the outfit we fall back on. Or, you just love the ensemble so much that you just love wearing it. Whatever the case, we all fall into fashion ruts. Lucky for you, digging yourself out of the rut is super easy. So grab a shovel and let’s get to it!

  1. Step out of your comfort zone: Do you have an article of clothing that you absolutely adore but have never photo (4)worn because it is not something you usually wear or that people around you wear? Forget other people, wear what you want to wear! Making a statement with your clothes is so much fun, and you will get so many compliments from those around you!
  2. Clean out your closet: Cleaning out your closet helps you get an idea of what clothes you wear a lot, what clothes you don’t wear very much but should, and clothes that you’ve never worn (aka the ones with tags still attached). Cleaning out your closet also helps make room for things that you actually need.
  3. Find your perfect shade of lipstick: Wearing lipstick makes me feel powerful. Lipstick is the perfect motivator. How? Let me ask you this: are you tempted to throw on a tshirt and leggings when wearing red lipstick? No ma’am. You want to work that lipstick with a fierce outfit. It motivates you to dress things up!
  4. People watch: No, I don’t mean stare at them uncomfortably. What I mean is when you are out in public pay attention to the different styles people are wearing around you. When you are sitting at Starbucks with your bff, take a leisurely look around at what other girls are wearing and pick out outfits that you would wear or that you like. This will give you inspiration on how you can use different pieces in your closet or how you can switch things up!

Are you ready to become the more stylish version of yourself? So am I!

How to build your wardrobe part 4: Put it all together!

Now that you’ve filled your closet with pieces that fit great, look great, and are pieces that you love, it’s time to put it all together!

Is there a better feeling than looking in your closet and seeing a bunch of pretty new things you can’t wait to wear? It is amazing! There’s a few things you can do to help take full advantage of your new, fabulous wardrobe.

Step 1: Would You Still Buy It?
Now that you have your new purchases at home and are done shopping, try everything on again. Sometimes a dressing room is not the best place to determine how a piece really looks on you. The lighting may have been bad, you maybe didn’t havethe right underwear on, etc. Are you still excited to wear the piece? Maybe it is not as cute as you thought. This is the time to go through your purchases and make sure you really love them!

 Step 2: Start Styling!

Plan at least one outfit for each new piece. Put together a whole look, from the shoes to the accessories! Make sure to incorporate pieces that you already had into the looks also.

 Step 3: Create a Lookbook

Once you have an outfit all worked out, take a picture of it or write it down. When it’s time to get dressed later on, you won’t struggle to remember what pants, or shirt, or scarf looked best. It’s also a great way to help you get dressed when you’re in a hurry!

chelsea crockett

Step 4: Work Those new Clothes!

I know I know, this is such a tough one ;). You’ve done a ton of work for this wardrobe, now it’s time to go out and show off your new pieces!

I hope that this process has helped you build a wardrobe that makes you feel confident, beautiful, and like a total fashionista! Your clothes should work for you, not the other way around. So, try every day to get dressed in something that puts a smile on your face!

Keep smiling darlings,

XOXO, Chels

Starting down south and on the coast, two brands have made their way to the Midwest and all throughout the U.S. If you guys haven’t heard of Vineyard Vines or Southern Tide, then you’re in for a treat!

Vineyard Vines is one of the cutest and simplest brands I’ve heard of.  In the 90’s, two brothers decided to quit their jobs in New York and open their business! Their first store was in Martha’s Vineyard and they now have more stores across the country! Their business first started out as selling only ties, but soon expanded their line to other clothing and accessories.  They only have a few shirts for girls that are more form fitting but still super stylish! But if you want a loose t-shirt to throw on with some leggings you can even check out the guys’ shirts! It may sound funny but they’re still adorable and extremely comfy :).Chelsea Crockett - Southern Tide

Southern Tide, a brand that originated in the south, was started by a 23 year-old man who had dreams of starting a line that was classy and kept the original southern style. Their clothes are so cute and are, once again, perfect for throwing on with a pair of leggings. They don’t have any t-shirts specifically for women, but buying the men’s t-shirts are super comfortable!

Check out the brands above, below!

Whether your closet is large or small, walk-in or a sliding door, it’s important to use your space wisely.  Too many teenagers find it easy to throw all of their clothes in their closet without actually folding them or hanging them up.  It can also be easy to throw all of your shoes in one big pile up!  I’ll confess I’m guilty of all of this!  Lately, I’ve been organizing my closet and have found it to be so much easier than I had imagined!  Check out my tips for utilizing your closet…the right way!Chelsea Crockett- color coded closet

  1. Command strips are your best friend. Hang them everywhere! They’re perfect for hanging purses, scarves, hats, etc.
  2. Find the right hangers and get rid of your old metal ones. Metal hangers make it easy for your clothes to constantly fall off. Try velvet hangers, or ones with arm slits. This way you won’t have to worry about fixing your clothes.
  3. Try grouping your clothes! Whether it’s by color or style, next time you’re looking for a specific shirt or dress, you’ll know right where it is!
  4. Slide your belt buckle over the top hook and hang for the perfect belt display!
  5. Try using dividers in your drawers to keep items like underwear, socks, and bras separate. Now you won’t be digging to find what you need!
  6. If you have a large gap or extra space in your closet, try throwing up a tension rod. This will add more space to hang clothes!

By trying a few of these tips, I promise…you will soon have a stress free closet!  Good luck organizing!

Love,

Chelsea

Have you ever wondered where certain trends you see start or come from? Sometimes a celebrity starts wearing a style that trickles to everyone who witnesses it. Other times, a trend from across the pond makes its way to the U.S. Here are a few looks inspired by countries around the globe!

Kimono cardigans, which started from the original kimonos in Japan, have suddenly become a huge fashion statement in America. High waisted shorts, a simple tank top, and a kimono cardigan with wedges is a fashionable outfit that you can find in a handful of the latest magazines.Chelsea Crockett - Hunter Rain Boots

Rain boots, which have been around way before the 2000’s, are still big here today in the U.S. Rain boots actually started out in England and were first styled as boots for war. Nowadays, brands such as Hunter rain boots have taken the style of the boots and made them perfect for rainy days. They’re super cute and available in almost any color!  Look at the ones on the left for example… So cute!  Check them out here: http://tiny.cc/Rainboots.

Fedora hats are popular for both girls and guys. They’re super fun for a day at the beach or hanging with your friends at the pool. They first started out in France when a woman came on stage wearing a fedora hat while performing a famous French play. Now, it’s a big fashion trend among almost anyone in America! If you want to purchase one, click here!

As the saying goes, “When you look good, you feel good”; and this is no exception to workout clothes!  As crazy as it may sound, dressing in cute, comfy active wear can actually drive you to push harder in a workout (aka resulting in a good workout).  Find out how you can easily spice up your workout outfit game in a few simple steps!Chelsea Crockett- cute workout clothes

Next time you go for a run on a hot day, ditch the cotton t-shirt.  These types of tees soak up the sweat, leaving you feeling heavier than normal.  Also, if you’re wearing a dark tee, then the sun will be more attracted to it.  Instead, throw on a dry fit tank or tee in a bright color to make you feel good and get rid of sweat faster.

Another way to feel good when you work out is to try something new with your hair.  If you prefer to wear it in a ponytail, add a bright colored headband.  If you don’t mind changing it up, try a side braid or braided ponytail.  If you’re very active when it comes to working out and do so several times a week, then investing in good workout clothes is a must.  Just like putting on a cute outfit for dinner makes you feel good, putting on a cute workout outfit will inspire you to work out more often and harder.

It’s time to spruce up your workout outfits and get active!  Nothing’s better than a good workout.

XOXO,

Chelsea

Oh the beauties of the Internet!  With a few clicks of your mouse, you can be exploring clothes and accessories from your favorite stores and imagining your perfect outfit!  Online shopping really is the easiest way to shop and it’s right at your fingertips…literally!

Some may argue that online shopping is a hassle.  Between shipping costs and not being able to try the clothes on, you may find yourself paying more for clothes that don’t fit!  While I can’t argue with that, I will admit that I’ve found many more sales on the Internet than in stores.  Many stores have online only items and sales and offer free returns and exchanges if the clothes don’t fit.  Most of the time you can even return your online order right in the store; no need to make a trip to the post office.  Also, if you spend a certain amount of money, then the shipping is free!  Not to mention, finding a box on your doorstep is like Christmas morning!Chelsea Crockett- online shopping boxes

Sometimes I find it hard and stressful shopping in unorganized stores, like Forever21 for example, and find it hassle free online!  Since I typically know what size I wear, I usually do not have a problem.  If you are looking for something specific, then it’s easy to type it in and look it up!  This way, you won’t be searching the mall for hours!

Next time you feel like taking a trip to the mall, curl up in bed and grab your laptop.  You may find your new hobby…online shopping!

Hi Insiders!

Smelling good is definitely essential.  It feels great putting on a new perfume and walking out of the house.  Even trying new perfumes is fun!  Unfortunately over time, your sweet smell will wear off.  Lucky for you, I’ve got a few simple tips to make your perfume last longer.  Smell amazing all the time!

Rubbing in perfume on your wrists and neck are the most popular areas to spray your sweet aroma.  Although most people do this, don’t!  Instead, spray your perfume in the air and walk through it so it will stick to your clothes.  If you spray the perfume on your neck or wrists don’t rub it in.  This causes the scent to disappear more quickly.  Let it dry on the surface of your skin.  Even try spraying perfume or Febreze in your closet to make your clothes smell fresh all the time!  If your perfume comes with a lotion and gel combo, then be sure to use it!  That’s one of the simplest ways to smell amazing!Chelsea Crockett- perfume

Another great way to smell great is to use shoe spray.  Your shoes are one of the smelliest clothing items in your closest.  Have fresh smelling feet with scented odor dissolving spray!  One of the newest fragrant products is scented nail polish.  Check out your local department to have delectable smelling hands!

Smell lovely beauty gurus!Smile

Hey insiders!

As you can see, being active is a big part of my life.  I’ve made exercise videos, written articles, and posted tweets all dedicated to staying healthy and fit.  As far as the actual exercising itself, I’ve seen most athletes decked out in Nike, Under Armor, and other big named brands; however, there are many athletic brands that go unnoticed, yet have great quality and the cutest gear!Chelsea Crockett - Athletic Brands

Most of us wouldn’t think twice about American Eagle carrying athletic wear, but turns out they actually have a big selection.  From shirts to shorts and hoodies to half-zips, they have any kind of gear you’re looking for.  With great quality and reasonable prices, AE is a must-stop next time you’re at the mall!

If you’ve never heard of Lulu Lemon, you’re in for a treat!  Although their prices are a little high, the quality and variety of the clothes they have is amazing.  You can find it on almost any celeb in Hollywood.  They’re clothes are extremely comfortable and light-weight for exercising.  Perfect for a Christmas wish listJ.

Forever 21 also carries a wide variety of workout gear that you don’t want to miss out on!  Of course, with Forever’s amazing prices, you can buy all types of gear without spending all your cash.

Enjoy! – Chelsea

One of my favorite spring trends is pastel colors.  They’re classy, elegant, and timeless! Chelsea Crockett - Pretty Pastels

Pastel dresses are perfect for almost any occasion.  A picnic in the park, a first date, or church on Sunday morning are all opportunities to rock your favorite spring dress.  Light pink, baby blue, or even a mint green look great with some white sandals and a bright handbag!

When you clean out your closet for the incoming seasons, don’t think too fast about tossing out your sweaters.  You can find super cute crop sweaters in different patterned or solid pastels at almost any store.  Putting together a crop sweater and a skirt or shorts is the perfect combination!

Besides sweaters and dresses, pastel handbags are stylish and just as elegant!  Although they’re a lighter shade, they can still add a pop of color to a neutral outfit.  Don’t be afraid to put a pastel shade on your nails as well!

Say good bye to winter and hello to spring!
