The Perfect Guide: Where to Put Eye Makeup

When I first started out using makeup, I didn’t really have a clue what I was doing!  But over the years, I’d like to think I’ve gotten pretty comfortable with creating all the different beauty and makeup trends on my own skin.  Eyeshadow trends can sometimes be the hardest to pull off without knowing where to put each shade.  Chelsea Crockett - Eye MakeupThis guide helped me master eyeshadow and know the best way to accent my eyes!

  • Brow bone/Highlight.  As far as your brow bone goes, focus on highlighting it.  This will give your eyes the pop they need!
  • Crease.  To add some dimension to your eyes, add a darker shade to your crease.  Once again, this will make them pop!
  • Lid.  This is where your base color will go.  I suggest a neutral shade that will be a good foundation for your other darker tones!
  • Outer V.  If you’re a fan of the “cat eye” eyeliner look, then this part of your lid will practically be covered anyways.  But if you’re not big on eyeliner, then apply a darker shade to your outer v.  If you want a softer look, blend with a blending brush for a less sharp effect.
  • Lower Lash Line.  Once again, if you’re an eyeliner type of girl, then this part of your eye will most likely already be covered!  But if you want a little more definition, add a darker, neutral shadow to your lash line.
  • Tear duct.  To add a little glow to your eyes, apply a shimmery or light colored eyeshadow.  This will make your eyes sparkle!

I hope this helps you just as much as it helped me!

Whether it’s your first prom or your third, it never gets any less exciting!  I know I’m not the only one who loves shopping for the perfect prom dress.  Figuring out the right style, color, and all around look that I’m searching for can be tough, but once I find the right one, it’s worth it!  If you need a place to start, here are some pointers on which color dress would look best on you!

Chelsea Crockett - Prom DressIf you have dark skin, any pastel or bright shade will most likely look good!  Try colors on the warmer end of the spectrum such as pinks, yellows, purples, etc.  These will bring out the warmness in your skin tone and highlight your skin’s glow.

If you have tan/olive skin, focus on complimenting your undertones.  Olive skinned girls are lucky because almost any color will look good!  I suggest a deep green or red, maybe even a burgundy shade like the dress on the left.  Especially if you have dark hair, try one of these colors!  If you want to really highlight your skin tone, try a bright pink that will make you look extra tan!

For the fair skinned ladies out there, pay attention to the undertone of your skin, whether it’s warmer or cooler toned.  If you have naturally rosy cheeks and a warmer skin tone, try earthy shades.  These will look beautiful on you!  If you have cooler undertones, look into purples, pinks, and blues!

I hope this narrows down your search options so finding the perfect prom dress can be a little easier!

You have spent all summer growing your luscious locks out into mermaid waves, and now that fall is here, you may feel like you need a change but don’t want to give your locks a major chop. One way to do that is to change your hair’s color! Fall is a great time to a new color on your strands because you won’t have to worry about the sun changing or altering the color. Here are the hottest hair color trends this fall.

  • Cool brunette: If you have olive or cooler skin tone then this shade is perfect for you! This color is a great transition from your sun-bleached hair to a darker more “fall” look.

  • Wheat blond: This is a more natural neutral blond that includes tones of gold and beige. This hue looks good on pretty much anyone! It is a soft look due to the subtle highlights, so if you like subtle, this is a great look!

  • Exposed roots: This look is so in! It is pretty much letting your natural roots show in the most chic way possible. It takes the edge off of your roots and blends them in. This look is for everyone! It really just depends on your taste and how much or how little you want your roots to be showing. This is also an easy way to transition if you want to leave more time in between touch-ups.

  • Bronde: This trend is here to stay! It is a nice happy medium between blonde and brunette… just right! This color works best for light brown to dark brown hair types and people with warm skin tones.

Thick, luscious locks are something every girl desires.  When it comes to hair, you can pretty much determine its color, style, etc., but one thing you can’t change is how thick or thin it is!  Although you can’t actually “change” it, there are certain things you can do to make it appear thick and beautiful!

  • Switch your part to the opposite side.  Chelsea Crockett - Pancake BraidShifting your part can give the hair around your roots a little lift.  Since its not used to it, your hair will look thicker at the top!
  • Condition your hair before you shampoo it.  This is said to give your hair a more textured look.  Try it out!
  • “Pancake” your braid.  Pancaking your braid is a new technique that makes your braid look fuller like the picture on the right.  You basically tug and pull on your hair to loosen your braid after you’ve finished.
  • Use mousse.  Mousse isn’t only a guy’s products ladies!  It works beautifully when trying to give your hair a little extra lift and texture.
  • Use dry shampoo even when your hair is clean.  As I’ve said before, texture can completely change the appearance of your hair.  Dry shampoo will give your roots an extra lift!

What tips would you add to the list?  Let me know and I’ll try them myself!

The one thing I like about fashion is all the prints, patterns, and colors you can mix and match to find your perfect look.  Recently, Chelsea Crockett - Acid Wash DressI’ve found many stores and boutiques that offer all different articles of clothing in the acid wash print, and I love it!  Here’s a little insight and what my take is on this trend!

If you’re going for a retro or grunge look, then this print is the perfect way to do it!  Chelsea Crockett - Acid Wash ShirtMy favorite way to rock this trend is with a casual dress like the one on the left.  Pair these dresses or tops with silver jewelry and a pair of booties, sandals, or even converse if you’re going for a more casual look.  If you want a subtler acid wash look, you can find t-shirt dresses and simple tees like the one on the right.

With acid wash, there are different types of color pairings that make for the cutest outfits!  Like the picture on the left, you can find white and navy or even pinks, purples, etc. like the picture above.  If you want a similar pattern but one that is less grunge, try marble print.  These two styles are very similar, but marble print is a little nicer!  Decide for yourself which one you like better!

If you’ve checked Instagram lately, you may have noticed a crazy, new (but totally cool) hair trend going around called rainbow roots.  Basically, you’re out of luck if you have dark hair like me, but if you have light hair you can turn your hair into an array of pastel colors!  If you’ve ever wanted to do something wild with your hair, but didn’t want to commit to a full head of rainbow strands, then rainbow roots is your perfect next look!Chelsea Crockett- Rainbow Roots Hair Dye

Streekers is a commitment-free hair dye that comes in 8 colorful shades, including purple, blue, pink, etc. So how do they work? Part your hair any way you would like and lift up strands of hair away from your scalp. Apply the colorful dye to dry hair starting at the root to where you would like the color to end. If you want to do more than one color, wait a minute between each color change. Once the colors are dry, brush through the dye and style your hair as you normally would! Once you’re ready for your old hair back, simply hop in the shower and wash it out!

It’s always fun to experiment with your hair, especially when you know it can be reversed. Have fun Insiders!

It’s crazy how makeup can make a person look so different! While we want to look young and bright, sometimes makeup can make us look dull or even older (not in a good way). So how can we stop this from happening? Keep on reading to see if you’re applying makeup incorrectly!Chelsea Crockett- exfoliate

  • Don’t pass up primer! Primer minimizes your pores and keeps makeup on longer! You won’t have to worry about weird lines or big pores, especially around your nose.
  • Make sure you’re using the correct foundation. Don’t pack on too much powder or liquid foundation and make sure you are using the correct shade.
  • Don’t dye your hair all one color. If you go to a stylist, ask him/her to add warmth or another tone into your hair! It’ll help make your face glow!
  • Not exfoliating regularly will lead to a buildup of dirt and dry skin. By exfoliating, you’ll be giving your face completely new skin!
  • Wear SPF every day! While you may not notice how it’s changing your skin now, you will when you’re older!

Let’s feel youthful forever!

Dying your hair can be fun, but it can also be disastrous! It can be messy, turn out the wrong color, or look splotchy! There is a lot of debate whether or not getting your hair dyed at a salon is actually worth it. While it is definitely more expensive than doing it yourself, the results are far better than box dye. Find out why!Chelsea Crockett- salon dye

  • Dye takes the moisture out of your hair leaving it dry and brittle. Salon dye is better quality than box dye, which is healthier for your hair. You’ll notice less split ends and a silkier result with salon dye.
  • Stylists know how to fix a mistake! There are specific products used to fix a dye mishap. Professional stylists know how to fix the problem without worsening or damaging your hair.
  • Salons are equipped with the proper tools, including foil and applicators.
  • Many people don’t know that there are multiple steps if you want to go much lighter or much darker. Most of the time, a stylist has to strip the hair of its color before the desired color can be applied. If you go straight into using the box dye, the color may turn out entirely different!
  • When dying your hair at home you have to be very careful! Dye can ruin your clothes, towels, or furniture. It’s much more powerful than you think!

Next time you want to change up your hair, stop by your nearest salon!

Color is something you can have fun with. Whether you like pinks and reds or blues and greens, you can add a little pop to your outfit by simply rocking a statement color! Sometimes this can be a bright lipstick or a not-so-ordinary hair color. Either way, finding what looks best and how to pull it off can be tough! Here’s a little guide I like to follow :).Chelsea Crockett - All Black Outfit

  • Sometimes I wake up in the edgy mood to rock combat boots and a flannel button up. Other times I want to dress a little preppy and girly! All shades of pink give off a flirty vibe and go well with almost any skin tone or hair color. One of my favorite looks is a rose pink dress accented with white or silver accessories. If you’re more of a hot pink kind of girl, try throwing on a pair of bright heels or a daring lipstick!
  • On the total opposite end, all black everything can be a statement in itself. You might be thinking it’s too dark for your personality or that you won’t be able to pull it off… Think again! An outfit like the one on the right is simple and chic. Give it a try!
  • Red is a color almost every girl wants to be able to pull off. To do so, you can’t be afraid to totally rock it! Red lipstick, a red dress, or even red, auburn highlights has only one secret to pulling them off. Be confident! I promise, you’ll turn heads!

What color would be your “signature color?” I prefer fun, bright colors to match my personality! Let me know below and tell me how you choose to rock it!

Usually when I think of winter weather fashion I think of shades like white, grey, brown and black and muted, darker tones. In winter the skies are gray, and if you don’t like the cold, your mood is gray as well! One way to drown out the winter blues is to add color to your wardrobe. Here are a few ways to add colors back into your ensembles.tumblr_mzgwwxdp3x1r8w7hqo1_500

  1. Coats: Who says coats have to be neutral colors all of the time? Not me! I love to wear a statement coat, such as my red pea coat, to work some color back into my outfits!
  2. Scarves: Scarves are a great way to spice up your outfit. Wear a statement scarf with a solid shirt to add some dimension.
  3. Hats: I love wearing hats in the winter, and if you follow me on Instagram you totally know what I am talking about! They are a great way to stay warm and look cute at the same time.
  4. Handbags: By adding in a colored handbag to your outfit you can effortlessly slide in some color.
  5. Sweaters: Colored sweaters… a total yes! I have a coral colored sweater that I just love, and I wear it with dark jeans and riding boots for an easy, comfy winter outfit!

How are YOU adding color into your winter wardrobe?

Distress Your Own Denim!

Once you’ve found the perfect pair of jeans, you never want to purchase another brand or material type of jean ever again! So what if you’ve found the perfect pair, but they don’t come distressed (washed out, holes)?  No problem!  By purchasing the same pair, you can distress them yourself!  It’s super easy and is actually fun!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Sand paper
  • Ridged rocks
  • Small block of wood

Start by choosing where you want to distress your jeans. You can distress them down the front, making the color lighter, or choose all over locations to createChelsea Crockett- distressing denim holes.  Once you’ve chosen where to place the first hole, slide the block of wood in your jeans so that it separates the front and back side of the material.  Rub the sand paper or rock against the material until it looks how you like!  It might take a little for you to see results, but don’t give up!  If you do it lightly, you’ll just lighten the color of the jeans if they are dark.  If you do it longer, a hole or fray will start to form!  Do this wherever you like to complete your look!

Who knew destroying a pair of jeans could be so easy and yet, so fashionable?!

Choosing the right shade of lipstick or lip gloss can be tricky; especially when there are over 100 shades to choose from!  Unfortunately, many people choose the wrong shade of lipstick, washing out their face and taking away from their beautiful facial features.  So how exactly do you choose the best shade of lipstick?  It depends on many factors, check it out!

The simplest trick for finding out your best shade is to go two shades darker than your natural lip color.  The easiest way of doing this is to find the shade closest to your natural color and then picking two shades darker.  If you get the chance to try on the lipsticks, then go for it!  If you have very thin lips, then stay away from dark shades.  Instead, go for a light gloss.  This will make your lips look more plump!

Red lipstick is timeless and it’s a huge trend right now!  Many people don’t know this, but there actually are different shades of red.  If you have light/pink skin,Chelsea Crockett- red lipstick go for a cherry red.  If you have olive skin, you’ll be able to pull off a bright fire engine or orange red.  Last, if you have dark skin, opt for a dark red.  Lipstick is such a wonderful beauty product to makes any look pop.  Next time you’re in the beauty aisle, find the lipstick shade that is right for you and rock it!

You may have just the read title and said “What?? Sunscreen for your hair?”  Yes, that’s right!  Sunscreen is very important to wear in your hair this summer!  Not only can the sun damage your scalp, but it can also cause color damage to your hair.  It’s time to brush up on your hair sunscreen knowledge!Chelsea Crockett- hair sun protection

Sun exposure increases your risk of dry, distressed hair, faded color, and a burnt scalp.  Who wants that??  Hair sunscreen usually comes in a spray bottle that can easily be applied to your hair, wet or dry.  It creates a barrier around each strand, protecting it from the sun’s harsh rays.  If your hair is dyed, then this is extremely important.  It can also protect from wind that can cause breakage and lock in moisture that the sun will take out.

Your scalp doesn’t get much sun exposure; therefore it can easily be burnt!  To protect from a burnt scalp, try moving your part throughout your time outside.  It’s also a good idea to wear your hair in a ponytail, so none of your scalp is exposed.

Take care of your hair this summer and maintain its natural beauty!

Chelsea

Hair is one of the biggest statements of a girl. An edgy cut sometimes gives off an outgoing feel to that person. Other times, long curls and a bow could come off as sweet, shy, or flirty. The color of a girl’s hair also plays a big role in what kind of a personality they may have. Here are a few hair trends for you to experiment with this summer… if you’re daring enough :)! For the brunettes that want to change it up a bit, I have the perfect way to do just that. Adding a reddish tint throughout your hair that isn’t too much but just noticeable is super cute and edgy. Ariana Grande is only one example of someone that can pull this color off perfectly!

For those who do not want to fully dye their hair or color it, hair chalk is a great substitute to try out a look. You can buy hair chalk at almost any beauty store such as Sephora, Sally’s Beauty Supply, or Ulta. The name itself is pretty self-explainable. You buy whatever color chalk you want and rub it on the parts you want your hair to be “dyed.” It’s only temporary and washes out when you shower. It’s a perfect way to put a certain look through a test-run if you are curious as to how it would look on you!  Check it out here:http://tiny.cc/HairChalk!Chelsea Crockett - Hair Chalk Another trend that is very unique but still stylish is pastel hair. This works better for really light blondes. Adding a streak of light pink or purple in the under layer of your hair is super cute! Or you could even try dying the ends of your hair a baby blue!

Hi Girls,

Don’t put up your warm weather clothes just yet!  Tights are a life saver in the winter.  They are so easy to slip on with your favorite dress, shorts or skirts.  They have even become a huge style staple.  With fun prints, bright colors, and of course, your typical black and nude, tights can be worn with almost anything!  Follow my style tips on how to wear and pair your tights in the winter!Chelsea Crockett- tights

Printed tights can be tricky to wear.  They have to be paired perfectly with just the right outfit.  Try wearing a pair of striped or polka dot tights with a solid colored dress or color block skirt and shirt duo.  Keep the colors subtle, so your outfit isn’t too over the top.  If you’re going to try a pair of colored tights, stick to one or two colors in your outfit.  Color blocking is a great way to incorporate colored tights.  For example, if you’re going to wear a pair of pink tights, try adding a complimentary color like orange in your look.

Nude, black, and white tights are essential to every girl’s closet.  These colors can be paired with any outfit…literally anything.  You can even wear your shorts in the winter thanks to tights!  For a grungier look, try rocking your favorite concert tee with high waisted shorts, black tights, and an over-sized cardigan.  If you want to go a classier route, pair any dress with black or nude tights.  You can’t go wrong!

Hi Insiders,

Around the holiday times, cranberries are especially popular!  Between cranberry desserts, juice, and flavorings, your body will start to crave cranberries.  Surprisingly, your beauty routine craves this superfruit as well.  Known for its powerful cleansing powers and beautiful red hues, cranberry cleanser and cranberry inspired makeup should start filling up your bathroom!

Cranberries have exfoliating properties which make them great for scrubs and face washes.  The fruit is usually bitter and acidic, making it great for cleaning out pores and restoring your skin to its natural state.  One of my favorites is the Burt’s Bees cranberry and pomegranate sugar scrub.  This can be used on your whole body for deep cleaning.  It’ll also leave your skin feeling smooth. Chelsea Crockett- Burt's Bees cranberry pomegranate sugar scrub

Not only do cranberries have amazing cleansing powers, but the shade and smell have influenced makeup aisles everywhere!  Cranberry, a sweet shade of red, is perfect for the holiday season and can be carried over to Valentine’s Day.  It looks amazing on nails and lips!  Even try a cranberry scented body splash for a sweet smelling day!  Don’t hesitate, start buying cranberry products today!
