Concealer is one of the best beauty tools in the world.  You can hide your tiredness by disguising dark circles or conceal stubborn pimples that won’t go away.  It color corrects, brightens, and evens out your skin to give you the perfect foundation for a beautiful face of makeup.  With that being said, we should know what we’re doing wrong with our concealer to guarantee that we’re making the most out of our product!

  1. Rubbing in your concealer with your finger.Chelsea Crockett - Naked Concealer  It may be gross to think about, but our fingers are covered in dirt, oil, and lots of bacteria.  Our fingers also don’t absorb any of our concealer like a beauty blender would which leaves it feeling caked on.  A beauty blender will blend it evenly and leave you without creases or streaks!
  2. Using the same concealer for all your blemishes, dark circles, etc.  Although this isn’t necessarily the wrong way of doing it, you can get much better coverage by using differently textured concealers.  For dark circles, try using a thicker concealer such as a cream based one.  As for pimples, try using a light, liquid concealer!
  3. Applying your concealer first as your base.  Although you may be anxious to cover up those zits as soon as you wake up, you won’t get your best coverage by starting with concealer.  Apply your foundation first, then apply your concealer!

What mistake are you making?  Now you know what to change when it comes to applying concealer!

Tricks to Make Your Skin Look Insta-Perfect

Have you ever wondered how celebrities make their skin look flawless in every picture they post?  Is it their makeup?  Or maybe some app that eliminates blemishes?  Although some people really do have naturally perfect skin, there are certain things you can do to make your selfies look insta-perfect!

  • Use a serum to enhance your glow.  Instead of highlighting your face, try using a serum to enhance the glow of your whole face, not just above your cheekbones.
  • Get rid of acne and pimples with a dab of concealer.  Whenever I have pesky pimples that don’t want to go away, I always cover them up with a little concealer.  After it sits for a minute or so, even it out with some foundation or powder.
  • Camouflage your dark circles with concealer followed by a setting powder.  Dark circles can make you look 10x more tired than you actually are.  If you want an insta-perfect selfie, make them disappear by applying concealer to make the area a little more lively.Chelsea Crockett - Concealer
  • To add to a more natural look, try using a darker foundation to add depth to your face instead of fully contouring it.  It’s always good to have a foundation that’s two to three shades darker than your normal shade for purposes like this!

Try some of these tricks out next time you want to take a killer selfie!  They really work!

Concealer is a life-saver, but only if you know how to use it to your advantage. It took me a while to master the art of concealer! Finding the right color for you can be tricky, plus applying it the right way is an art of its own. Here are my top 5 tips on everything concealer related.

  1. Color is key: There are shades of concealer that will help neutralize your specific skin tone. If you have dark purple spots around your eyes, use red concealer to cover them up and neutralize the dark circles. To find what concealer color works best for you, look at the undertone of your under eye circles.hey-girl-those-dark-circles-really-make-your-eyes-pop
  2. Different concealer formulas work better on different parts of your face: You may need a few different concealers in different colors to help cover everything. You can use a concealer that is skin tone, but having the right formula and color for the job makes a huge difference.
  3. When to apply: Apply concealer after foundation to prevent brushing the concealer away. It also helps you use less concealer! Top it all off with powder.
  4. Let your concealer set: Let your concealer “cook” or melt onto your face for a few minutes. Your body heat will warm it up, and it may change color or texture a bit. After it has melted a bit, then you can work with it and blend it into your foundation.
  5. If you like to keep things simple: If you are more of a “do the minimum” makeup kind of person, just apply concealer under your eyes, at the corners of your mouth, and next to your nose. It will help you camouflage redness or darkness in those areas quick as a flash!

Hopefully these tips help you conceal anything on your skin that you feel self-conscious about! That is what concealer is for after all, to conceal dark spots and pimples.

Concealer comes in many shades and colors. The specific formula we will be discussing today is of the green variety. When I first saw green concealer I could not figure out what it was. Green? On your face? But, little did I know that green concealer is used to correct redness on your face because green and red are opposites on the color wheel. Here is how to use green concealer to your advantage!mufe-green-primer1

  1. A little goes a long way: The last thing you want to do is give yourself a green hue. Only apply the
concealer to the red spots where it is needed and then blend it well with your skin-tone concealer.
  2. Match it up: The intensity of the green you use depends on your skin tone. You will know it is the right shade when it seamlessly blends to your skin and hides any blemishes under it.
  3. Think it through: Think to yourself if you really need color correction. The main goal is to show as much of your natural skin as possible!

I went to Ulta and picked up some NYX brand green concealer and love it! I just use a little dab on any red spot on my face and blend it in with my skin-tone concealer, just like I said above! Try it out and see what you think.

Simple Halloween Makeup 2016

Halloween is the only time of the year that you can play dress up no matter how old you are!  I always love taking it to the next level and going all out with my Halloween makeup.  There are hundreds of different looks you can try, but I wanted to pick some of the simpler ones to share with you all!  Makeup might not be your best talent, so here are some easy-to-do tutorials!

Zombie makeup is always super easy to pull off.  Last year, I had to work an event at my school and had to dress up as a zombie!  I went all out and put makeup all over my body (as you can see in the picture above)! Chelsea Crockett - Rainbow Filter Makeup For this look, I used a lighter foundation for my face to make it look pale.  I then took black and purple eyeshadow to give my eyes and cheeks a hollowed look. Depending on how much you want to add, apply different shades of red paint to your face, arms, etc. for fake blood!  Most Halloween stores will even sell paint for this exact use!

Being a Snapchat filter is such a fun and trendy way to show off your makeup skills this year!  The two easiest looks to try out are the rainbow and deer filters!  Once again, Halloween stores will sell face paint that’s made just for this purpose.  Painting on the filter like the picture on the left isn’t hard to do!  As for the deer filter, simply using a contour kit, black eyeliner, and concealer will seal the deal.  Just google it and a picture will show up for you to go off of!

What are you being for Halloween this year?  Let me know in the comment section below!

Happy Halloween! – Chels

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, pimples pop up at the worst times.  I’ve always wished I could just say the word and they’d disappear!  Obviously, I can’t give you the tips to do that, but I can share with you a few ways to get rid of or cover up pesky pimples!

  • Take an ice cube and wrap it in a paper towel.  Hold it on the pimple for 30-60 seconds to disappear any redness or swelling!  If need be, apply it for a longer about of time to keep eliminating any swelling.
  • Some makeup artists even say to add irritation relief eye drops to the area using a cotton swab.  This will also bring down any unwanted redness! Chelsea Crockett - Powder Foundation
  • If your pimple is flaky or scabbed over, take a pair of tweezers to softly remove any dead skin.  Apply a small about of moisturizer or repair balm to soothe the area.
  • Powder, powder, powder!  After applying your foundation, add some powder to the area of your breakout before applying concealer.  This will help it stick so you can avoid having to reapply throughout the day!
  • If you have aspirin at home (which let’s be real, who doesn’t have them lying around everywhere?), you can make a paste by adding one aspirin to a teaspoon of water.  This will make a paste you can apply to the aggravated area.  Wait till it hardens and wipe it off with a warm washcloth!

Hopefully this helps you out next time you have an unexpected pimple pop up!

As hard as it is to say it, school is quickly approaching.  As for me, I’m headed off to college on the other side of the country!  Whether you’re starting college, high school, or even junior high, there are certain essentials you’ll need to take with you every day to school.  This will help you survive any hair or beauty emergencies you may experience!

  • A Makeup Bag.  First comes first, you’ll need a small bag to put all of your items in.  I would recommend a makeup bag because they’re stylish and come in all different sizes, patterns, and colors!Chelsea Crockett - Back to School Bag
  • Mini Deodorant.  There are too many times when I leave the house forgetting to apply deodorant or perfume, and it’s the worse!  Keep a small, travel size deodorant in your bag for those forgetful days.
  • Shout Wipes/Tide Stick.  A good day can easily be ruined by a stained shirt.  Shout wipes can come in handy when you need them most!
  • Concealer/Foundation.  Whenever I cover up a pesky pimple, it seems to make its way out throughout the day.  Carry some concealer and/or foundation so you can reapply!
  • Money.  There are so many times when I show up to school forgetting I need cash for a t-shirt, field trip dues, etc.  It’s always good to carry around some extra cash!

As for what not to bring, don’t waste space on things that will most likely already be provided in class or at school.  Things such as tissues, medicines, band aids, etc. will probably be available if you ask!  Think of things that you’ll need in case of emergency that they won’t have for you there!

I hope that’s helpful! – Chelsea

Knowing what products compliment your face best and how you should apply them can sometimes be a tricky task. Most girls don’t have time to sit and redo their makeup 5 times till they get it perfect (I’m one of those girls!). Luckily, brands have made it easier to correct your makeup mistakes. Here are three of my favorites!

  • Eyeliner Correcting Pen.Chelsea Crockett - Color Correctors If you have yet to master the art of eyeliner, this pen is soon to be your best friend. Wings are probably the hardest to achieve, and this pen lets you erase and clean up any unwanted lines or smudges! My favorite kind is Hard Candy’s Oopsy-Proof Liner (which you can pick up at Walmart!). E.l.f. also offers a Makeup Remover Pen which can work just as well!
  • Color Correcting Concealers. These products are so cool! If you’ve never used these before, they’re basically concealers in various colors that cancel out redness, breakouts, etc. and correct your skin! For example, you can use the green color correcting stick to neutralize any redness on your skin, perhaps from breakouts or an annoying pimple. If you’re a little skeptical, try them out for yourself! I’m obsessed!
  • Makeup Remover Pads. If you ever mess up on your contour, eyeshadow, eyeliner, etc., one swipe of a makeup remover pad and you can start the process over again!

I hope these products help you perfect your daily makeup routine!

There are several different makeup brushes that serve several different purposes. You may have many brushes that you’re using in the wrong place. Sometimes it’s hard to tell which brush is for foundation, blush, or powder! Here are 5 must-have makeup brushes that have their own specific purpose that will make a difference in your everyday makeup look!

  • Foundation Brush. Foundation brushes have rounded edges for reaching even the crevices of your face. Try it out with liquid or even powder foundation!Chelsea Crockett - Beauty Blender
  • Blending Brush. Blending brushes are smaller and are perfect for tying together each product. Apply your makeup and blend it together by moving your brush in a circular motion.
  • Concealer Brush. Concealer is the product that brings everything together. It not only gets rid of dark circles but blemishes and breakouts, too. You never want your concealer to leave white circles or lighter areas on your face. Use a concealer brush with rounded edges to smooth everything out!
  • Beauty Blender. If you’re looking for something to blend everything together, a beauty blender is where it’s at. I use this for anything from blending concealer to applying liquid foundation. It leaves a smooth and flawless finish!
  • Powder Brush. When it comes to a powder foundation, you have to have a particular kind of brush. You never want your foundation to look caked on. In order for applying it evenly, you have to use a specific kind of brush!

Which brush do you always have in your makeup bag? Share with me below!

How to Cover Up Stubborn Redness with Makeup

Okay so i’m going to be real with you here for a minute. Last week I used a pore strip on my nose to get some blackheads out of there. I accidentally left it on too long and ended up peeling off some of my skin with the pore strip. OKAY OUCHHHH. It was not fun. Plus, my nose has been a red mess this week. Thank goodness I know a few makeup tricks to hide it! If you have redness from acne scars or rosacea, or pesky pore strips, keep reading to learn how to cover it up.

  1. Prep with primer: Apply a primer to your skin to make sure your makeup stays on all day. Primer also creates a barrier between your skin and makeup to prevent irritation.tumblr_inline_mw1721SkOq1qdfkq5
  2. Use tinted concealer: Pick a yellow or green tinted concealer to fight the red tones on your skin.
  3. Use a brush: Apply your concealer using a large brush to cover a wide area so you get coverage without going too overboard.
  4. Top it off with foundation: Use a brush to apply foundation over the concealer.
  5. Finish with powder: Take a yellow toned setting powder and press it into the skin to help your makeup stay in place alllll day long.

Hopefully these tips help you cover up that redness so you can feel confident in your own skin (literally!).

Concealer is a life saver when it comes to baggy eyes and random pimples, but there are other, outside-of-the-box uses that have recently been brought to my attention… And let me tell you, you will never look at concealer the same! I love discovering beauty hacks and sharing them with you all. So… here are five concealer hacks!

  1. Spoiler alert: concealer can actually be used as a subtle lip liner that makes your lips pop! If you apply a layer around both your upper and lower lips, it will give off a more plump lip illusion.Chelsea Crockett - Contour
  2. Concealer is the key to contouring. Without it, your face won’t be highlighted enough to complete the look. The picture on the right shows where you’re supposed to apply the concealer for the best contour results. Follow it! I promise it works like magic!
  3. Apply a dab of concealer to your eyelids before applying eye shadow. This prevents the shadow from setting in your creases and falling off easily!
  4. Everyone wants perfect eyebrows, am I right? Apply a light concealer around the outline of your brows to make them pop! It makes them so much more noticeable.
  5. Have you ever heard of green concealer? Let me tell you, it’s a lifesaver. The color of the concealer cancels out the redness of acne and covers up pimples better than normal concealer. Buy some and try it out for yourself!

I hope these make your life a little bit easier :)!

Hey cuties!  Being at a young age, it’s a good thing to show off your natural beauty.  Trying to find a look that highlights your natural features is quick and easy to do.  Before applying any makeup, know that you want to keep it light, light, light.  Your goal is to show your natural self and you can’t do that by caking on makeup to cover it up!

Chelsea Crockett - Natural MakeupThe first step to almost any tutorial is to apply moisturizer and you’re ready to go.  An easy start to this look is to apply an airfoam foundation which will blend perfectly with your skin and keep it extra light.  After, cover up any imperfections with concealer to keep your face looking clean and beautiful.  Place more concealer under and in the inner corners of your eyes to eliminate any dark circles and to brighten up your face as well.  As far as your face goes, finish it off with a light pink blush on the apples of your now rosy cheeks.  And for eyes, that’s easy.  Keep it simple by dabbing a nude colored eye shadow to your eyelids and just a little mascara on your upper and lower lashes.

That should do it!  Everyone has their own natural beauty so it’s time to show off yours!

Love, Chelsea

A beauty cheat sheet is always a girl’s best friend when it comes to hiding a pesky pimple.  A big zit on the middle of your forehead can be devastating when you’ve gotChelsea Crockett- covering a pimple plans!  Lucky for you, there are a few simple steps to disguise any zit, big or small, for hours.  Check it out!

  1. Start by dabbing a small amount of liquid foundation or concealer on a concealer brush.
  2. Press the bristles on top of the pimple and twist it. This way, the foundation or concealer will get into every nook of the zit.
  3. Next, apply powder foundation as you normally would to the rest of your face.
  4. Using loose powder foundation, dip a clean finger in it and tap it on the concealed zit. This way you won’t stand the chance of wiping away the concealer.
  5. By this time, the zit should be in full disguise!

Try wearing bright colored lip gloss or lip stick to make the focus of your face your lips, not your zit.  If your pimples are near your eye area, you can even wear a pair of glasses to distract the person looking at you!  Using these 2 methods will keep other people focused on anything but your zits!

Take a breather Insiders!  There’s always a way to hide those pesky pimples!
