Curling irons can take a lot of practice and training to be able to control. In order to get the most of your out of your curling iron and get the best curls possible there are a few tricks you need to have up your sleeve at all times.

  1. Know the difference in barrels: AKA know what size barrel works best for you. If your hair curls better with a smaller barreled iron, stick with it. If your hair works better with the bigger barrel because you prefer looser, wavier curls, then work it. Practice makes perfect!images (2)
  2. Short hair hacks: If you have short hair, use a small-barreled iron pointed downward. Also, make your curls tighter on the underside of your hair because this will help your ‘do to have more volume.
  3. Quick curls: Pull your hair into a high pony and curl your it while it is up for quick easy waves. Once you are done curling and have let your hair cool, take the ponytail down and lightly spray with hair spray.
  4. Clamp it up: Face the clamp of your curling iron forward to spin the hair through it more easily, and clamp around the middle of your hair. Clamping hair from the bottom of the strand makes it harder and more awkward to curl around the iron.
  5. Root to tip: The closer to the root you start the curl, the longer the curl will last.
  6. Wand tricks: When you are using a wand with different sized ends, turn it upside down. This allows you to start curling your roots on the larger end of the wand. Also, hold the wand behind your head to avoid burning your face or ears!

Next time you are curling your locks, keep these tips in mind!

Don’t get me wrong, I love the way my hair looks when it is freshly curled. The curls are all bouncy and shiny! Buuuuut, there is something to be said about “second day” curls. They are looser, messier, and give off that “effortless” look. Want to know how to get “second day” curls without having to sleep on them/wait a whole day? Stay tuned!FullSizeRender (5)

  1. The first step is to divide your hair into sections and curl it how you normally do. You can use a curling iron, wand, straightener, whichever you prefer!
  2. Okay, so after you have curled all of your hair, take your fingers and run them through your hair. The goal is to loosen up the curls and separate them. You can also use a wide-toothed comb for this step instead of your fingers!
  3. Take some dry shampoo and spray it throughout your hair, on the roots and the curls. This will “dirty up” your hair and make it a little messier. I also use sea salt spray to mess it up a bit.

See how easy it is to get “second day” curls on the first day? Super-duper easy! Let me know in the comment section if your “second day” curls turned out cute!

Use Baby Socks to Curl Your Hair!

I bet when you saw the title of this blog you went “Whaaaaaat?!” I am all about “no heat curls” and I love finding new ways to do them. No heat curls are the best way to give your hair body and curl without damaging it. Here is how to use baby socks to curl your hair!

  1. Go to the store and buy a package of infant socks. Your hair should be damp when you start the hair curling process.NO-HEAT-CURLS-WITH-BABY-SOCK-200x300
  2. Take a section of your hair and brush through it. Spray the section with a spritz of hairspray. The smaller the section, the tighter the curl. I prefer large curls!
  3. Place the ends of the hair across the toes of the sock and roll the sock up towards your head. When you get to the scalp, take the opening of the sock and turn it inside out over the hair, just like you would attach two socks together when folding laundry.
  4. Repeat this process over your whole head. You may look a little goofy for a little while, but in the morning when you take those socks out you will have beautiful bouncy curls!

So, go to sleep, and in the morning you will have curly hair without heat! Try this sweet trick out and comment below to tell me how you like it! Who knew baby socks could serve such an interesting purpose?

How many of you lovely Insiders have naturally curly hair? I ENVY you! Curly hair is so fun and bouncy and flirty. I have some friends with naturally curly hair, and they say that it is actually quite difficult to style it and it takes some effort to get it exactly how you want it, though. So, I did my research, and I came up with a few curly hair tips for all of my curly cued Insiders out there.

  1. Don’t wash your hair every day! This may take some getting used to. The reason you don’t want to shampoo taylor-swift-long-curly-hair1every day is because scrubbing and roughing up your cuticles sets you up for major frizz and strips your hair of the natural oils, which are beneficial for all of my curly haired goddesses.
  2. Use a wide toothed comb to brush your hair when it is damp. Now, I don’t mean BRUSH it out, I mean gently comb it out. A wide toothed comb will detangle your hair while keeping your curls intact.
  3. Let your hair air dry as long as possible to prevent unnecessary volume and frizz. Blow drying and scrunching your hair can turn it into a frizzy mess, so make sure to use a diffuser if you must blow dry your locks!

Girls with curly hair wish they had straight hair, girls with straight hair wish they had curly hair, and girls with semi curly, semi straight hair wish that it would just make up its mind and pick one! What kind of hair do YOU have? Comment below and let me know!

You love your long hair and hate to cut it, but those split ends have gotten out of control!  Oh the struggle of being a girl.  I know haircuts can be scary, but trust me it will benefit you in the long run!  Check out these red flag signs to see if you’re ready for a haircut.

  1. Check out your ends to see if they are getting frayed, frizzy, or split.  This will cause your hair to look dull.  If your hair has lost its shine, then it’s probably time for a haircut.
  2. As your hair grows out, it starts to lose its shape.  If you start to notice that your layers are gone and/or your hair is becoming difficult to style, then a trim is much needed!
  3. If your hair is curly, watch to see if your hair “bounces.”  If your curls have lost their spring, this means your hair is lacking moisture and is due for Chelsea Crockett- naturally curly haira cut.
  4. It’s time for a change!  Do you ever get bored of your daily hair routine or think your look is “typical”?  It’s so easy to spruce up your hair with a slight trim or dramatic cut.

Getting your hair cut isn’t that bad!  It’s actually healthy and can help your hair grow.  Keep your hair healthy and happy!

Love,

Chelsea

Curl Your Hair…And Make It Last!

Are you tired of crying tears of frustration when your perfectly curled locks lose their bounce after 30 minutes? One of the most frustrating things for a girl is when you spend hours curling and styling your hair, just to watch it fall out faster than you can say “Beautyliciousinsider”. Here are a few tips on how to make your curls last!

  1. Use volumizing shampoo: A great tip for girls who have thin or flat hair is to use volumizing shampoo and tumblr_m8qgvzgWPc1r44f5bconditioner to prep your hair for styling.
  2. Trim: When you have a lot of dead ends, it really prevents your hair from holding a curl. Healthy hair holds a curl so much better!
  3. Curl on unwashed hair: It may sound weird, but that is what the experts recommend! If you are curling on clean hair, you’ll need to add in much more curling cream or mousse than required, which weighs the hair down.

Hopefully these tips will have you rockin bouncy, lasting curls for hours on end!
