Chelsea Crockett- yogurtEveryone struggles with the midnight munchies. It’s so typical for me in be cuddled in bed and then feel my stomach rumble.  Sometimes I can’t tell if I’m actually hungry or just bored….either way, I usually find myself in the kitchen.  When you’re trying to eat healthy, that midnight snack can really get ya!  Lucky for you, I’ve come up with the perfect midnight snack substitutes for whatever you’re craving!

  • If you’re craving ice cream, try a yogurt instead. If that doesn’t satisfy your sweet tooth enough, try adding granola, berries, dried fruit, or a few candy pieces to the yogurt.
  • If you’re craving something salty, throw in a small bag of popcorn. The saltiness and crunchiness with kick that craving to the curb!
  • If you need some chocolate in your life, go for a small piece of 60% or higher dark chocolate. Each square contains a small about of sugar and is even full of antioxidants!
  • If you’re craving pie, try cutting up an apple and sprinkling some cinnamon and sugar on it. It’s like the pie without the crust! You can even warm it up!
  • If Mexican food is what you’re stomach wants, grab some tortilla chips and salsa or guacamole.
  • If you feel like you need a second meal, AKA you’re very hungry, I suggest making a small turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread. Turkey contains an amino acid that actually promotes sleep.

Next time you hear your stomach calling for help, don’t ignore it! Instead, try one of these healthier alternatives and crawl back into bed!

XOXO,

Chelsea

Sleeping in late? Buying low-fat foods?  Sipping on fruit juice to get your necessary vitamins?  These all sound healthy, right?  WRONG!  Many “healthy” acts aren’t so healthy after all.  You’d be surprised to find out what healthy acts and items I’m talking about.  Keep on reading to find out how you can live a healthier life!Chelsea Crockett- low fat foods

  • When you’re out to eat, skip the hand sanitizer and go to the bathroom to wash your hands with good old-fashioned soap and water. Hand sanitizer dries out the skin and isn’t as effective as it claims to be.
  • Fruit juice isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. When producers make juice, they remove the skin, which holds most of the nutrients and fiber. Basically, all you’re left with is sugar and added artificial flavors.
  • You might be surprised to find that “catching up on sleep” isn’t actually a good thing. Research shows that those who sleep in for hours on the weekend to make up for a loss of sleep from the week-end up staying up later on Sunday nights resulting in tiredness on Monday. It’s a reoccurring cycle. Instead, try to keep a constant sleeping pattern.
  • Just because something is labeled as low-fat, doesn’t mean it’s low calorie. Many low-fat foods actually have more carbs and grams of sugar to make up for the lack of taste. Instead, eat a healthy portion of the regular food item.
  • Ignoring your sweet tooth sounds like a good idea right? When you’re body craves something you need to give it what it wants. By eating a small piece of dark chocolate, you will get rid of your sweet tooth and even score some healthy antioxidants. If you get rid of all sweets, you may find yourself binge eating cake one night.

It’s so important to always make healthy choices! I hope this helped!

Love you all,

Chelsea

Hi Insiders,

As the saying goes, “You are what you eat.”  I couldn’t agree any more with this statement!  If you eat fast food every day, your body and mood will feel the effects.  You’ll feel sluggish and down.  It’s important to feed your body foods that will make you happy.  Surprisingly, there are certain foods that can actually boost your mood.  It’s an all-natural way to go from sad to happy!Chelsea Crockett- greek yogurt

  • Greek yogurt: This type of yogurt is packed with more calcium than milk and studies show that a high intake of calcium can boost your mood.  Low calcium levels can produce anxiety, depression, and slow thinking.  Eat your yogurt!!
  • Dark chocolate: Of course chocolate is a mood booster, duh?!  I mean, who doesn’t love chocolate?  Dark chocolate, especially, improves blood flow to the brain.  This makes your body more energized and vibrant.
  • Asparagus:  This vegetable has the highest concentration of serotonin, a mood regulator for the brain.
  • Honey:  Although sweet like sugar, this sweet treat can reduce inflammation and reduce depression.
  • Eggs:  The fatty omega-3 acid found in eggs can give your body enough energy to make it through your whole day.  When you’re energized, your whole body will feel alive!

Make your body smile and eat for a body you’d be proud of!

Love,

Chelsea

Eating healthy can be tough, especially when you’re not used to it!  The easiest way to ease yourself into a healthy diet is to make a few simple changes here and there.  By swapping out a few bad choices for good choices, you will start to notice yourself eating healthier and healthier day by day.

  1. Many people don’t realize how much sugar is in juice. Can you believe there are 24 grams of sugar in one cup of orange juice?! Instead of having your morning juice, have a fresh orange for breakfast. You will cut down on the sugar and gain some fiber!  Chelsea Crockett- sugar in juice
  2. Bagels are packed full of carbs and sugar and can be extremely filling. Try an English muffin instead of a bagel. This can even be used as bread for a sandwich!
  3. If you love chips and can’t give them up, then buy baked chips! Normal chips are fried in oil high in fat. Baked chips are more natural!
  4. Instead of ordering an appetizer at dinner, opt for a side salad instead. Try to order a clear dressing such as Italian, instead of a creamy dressing like Ranch.
  5. No more soda! Try sparkling water!
  6. If you love sweets, then try dark chocolate over milk chocolate. Dark chocolate is full of antioxidants which contributes to multiple health benefits!

Eating healthy isn’t hard; it just takes some will power and a good grocery list!

Love you all!

Hello Lovelies,

I love love love sweets!  Nothings better than a giant candy bar, or a chocolate cake, or cupcakes, or ice cream, or…..well, you get the point.  Lucky for you, there’s a sweet out there that is actually good for you!  Sounds too good to be true, right?  Dark chocolate, eaten in moderation, has a Chelsea Crockett- dark chocolatelot of amazing benefits for your health.  Who would’ve guessed that chocolate, something so delicious, could actually be a wonder food?

Dark chocolate, unlike many other sweets, has a lot of crucial benefits for your health.  Eating small amounts 2-3 times a week can lower your blood pressure and increase blood flow to the brain.  It contains the same chemical that is released in your body when you feel like you’re in love, so this stimulates blood flow throughout the body and makes you feel happier.  It is also full in antioxidants, which helps block harmful bacteria from the body and can protect you from many types of cancer.  Surprisingly, dark chocolate contains a stimulant called Theobromine, which hardens tooth enamel.  This can actually lower your risk of cavities (chocolate that doesn’t cause cavities, whaaaat?!)

Start making small amounts of dark chocolate a regular food in your weekly diet.  It won’t be sudden, but soon your body will start to thank you.  Just remember, don’t eat the entire bar!
