5 Ways to Prepare Your Bedroom/Dorm for Winter

Winter is here and amongst us whether we like it or not.  Since we change our wardrobes and other things during the cold months, why don’t we make our rooms a little winterproof too?  Whether you’re living in a dorm, apartment, or still at home, here are some things to get your room nice and cozy for the winter!

  • Get a heated blanket.  Once you get a heated blanket, you’ll never go back!  They’re so nice to curl up in after coming in from the cold weather. (Maybe add it on to your Christmas wish list!)
  • Purchase a fuzzy rug!  Chelsea Crockett - RugPurchasing a warm, fuzzy rug will make your room cozier and winter ready.  It’ll even be an added decoration to make your room more stylish!
  • Buy a humidifier.  The air outside gets ten times drier during the winter which can mess with your skin and lungs.  Get a humidifier to help with any dry skin, stuffy noses, coughs, etc.!
  • Get a couple holiday scented candles!  A scented candle totally gets your room into the holiday mood.  Whether you like a Christmas cookie scent or a pine scented candle, you can find the perfect one to fill your room with.
  • Find the right temperature.  Nothing is worse than an overheated or freezing dorm room.  Find a temperature that’s perfect for you.

Have any more tips I should add to the list?  Let me know so I can try them out for myself!

I don’t know about you, but I love decorative maps and the vintage feel they give off!  Just the pattern itself is one of my favorites whether it be room décor, phone cases, pillows, etc.  There are tons of different map DIYs that you can easily make into the cutest things!  Especially if you like to travel, you should try out these super cute DIYs!Chelsea Crockett - Pinned Map

Like I mentioned before, for the travelers out there, this one is for you!  You’ll need to purchase wooden letters that spell out the world “travel.”  Buy them in the right size according to where you’re putting them whether it be on your wall, desk, etc.  There are different ways to actually apply the map pattern to it either with map scrapbooking paper, decoupage, etc.  You can hang your letters or get thick ones that will stand up on a table or desk.

Another DIY that’s a little simpler is purchasing a big wall map and attaching it to a foam board.  Since these maps are usually thicker and hard to simply glue it yourself, you can take it to Hobby Lobby or another craft store to do it for you.  Then, buy some pushpins and stick them on the cities that you’ve been to!  It’s a fun way to see how many places around the world/country you’ve gone to!

Which DIY are you going to try out for yourself?  Don’t be afraid to put your own spin on things and customize it even more!

Decorating my room is something I love to do.  Since it’s my own space, I ultimately get to decide what hangs on the walls or goes on my dresser.  With fall in full swing, the decorations are as well!  Since DIYs are one of my favorite pastimes, adding a festive touch makes for the perfect DIY room décor!

  • During fall, you can never have too many pumpkins.  Chelsea Crockett - Pumpkin DecorSeveral stores sell mini pumpkins that are easy to decorate and store in your room!  Buy some paint, glitter, etc. to match your room and make your pumpkin into the perfect decoration.
  • Make your own pumpkin spice candle!  You might be thinking what?  You can do that?  There are tons of recipes online to create your own fall scented candle. You can burn it and fill your room with the sweet smell of pumpkin spice!
  • I’ve always loved decking out my room with twinkle lights to make it warm and cozy.  To get a little more festive, purchase orange or yellow-tinted twinkle lights to hang around your room.  Along with your other fall decorations, these will finish off the job and create the perfect autumn atmosphere!

Whether you’re adding décor to your dorm at school or bedroom at home, I hope you create the perfect festive touch for the season!

I love being creative, especially when doing fun DIYs! And with school starting, you might be going off to college and hauling all of your décor to your dorm. Whatever the case, you have a few weeks of summer left to do a couple artsy room DIYs!

I think one of the cutest room decorations I see all over Pinterest and Tumblr is a large map to put on your wall. Chelsea Crockett - DIY MapWell… there are more creative ways to do so, and I want to help you out! Your first option is one like the picture on the right. Buy a big canvas, whatever size fits your room/dorm, and print out paper templates of each continent. Make sure they’re proportionate to each other! Take double sided tape and tape down each template very, very lightly so you can easily pull them off after you’re down without leaving tape marks. After taping, use canvas paint and splatter it wherever you want! Wait till the paint dries, then peel off each template. You can have fun with different colors that’ll match your room!

The other option is a map like the featured image above. You’ll need white tacks and tons of white string! You’ll have to buy a large canvas and paint it black. Wait till it dries, then put your white tacks periodically to make the shapes of each continent. Take your string and start on one continent at a time. Wrap it around the tacks in different orders to make it like the picture above! You can add a verse or quote if you want, too :)!

Have fun! – Chelsea

Dorm rooms are the perfect place to express your personality and personal style! These simple DIY’s can spruce up your dorm room and make it feel a little more “you”!

Photo wall art: What makes your dorm room more “you” than pictures of your friends and family?! There are some really cool ways to display your photos. One way is to arrange them in cool shapes, such as a heart, like the example below! You can also take string and attach it to your wall with thumb tacks and then hang pictures on the string with clothes pins, like the picture below!

Another DIY that not only spruces up your dorm but is also fab for storage is colored jars! By taking mason jars and swishing paint around in the jar, you coat the inside and create a super adorable room accent! You can keep pens and pencils in them, hair ties, paper clips, anything that you want!

The last way that you can make your dorm feel more perky is by hanging twinkling lights inside your dorm, whether it is from the ceiling, your bed, or on your walls. Twinkling lights can give your room a calming sense and help you feel more like home, and they can turn any gloomy dorm room into a twinkling, cheery one!

Chelsea Crockett - Picture Cork BoardIf you’ve ever seen Pottery Barn, you’ll know that all of their merchandise is fun and creative, but don’t forget a little pricey!  One of their products is a photo cork board, such as the one on the left.  Most people don’t want to pay for things that they can easily make at home.  That being said, here’s a short tutorial on a DIY picture cork board!

First off, you’ll need to determine how big you want your board, depending on the size of the wall you put it on.  Here’s what you need for one such as the board above!  First, find nine small squares of cork board.  Keep in mind the size of your wall!  You’ll need to go to your nearest craft store such as Hobby Lobby for example.  Then, pick out nine colors or patterns of cloth that will look best in your room!  Make sure you get the right sized cloth to glue onto your cork.  Once you get home, I suggest taking a hot glue gun to glue your cloth and cork together.  Then, ask a parent, or someone who is good with a saw, to cut a piece of thin plywood the size that you need.  Remember to leave room for your frame.  After, take your nine material cork squares and glue them to the plywood in whatever order you want.  Last, cut some trim to frame the outside of your patterned board.  Make sure to use a strong glue to glue it on.  There are many ways to hang your board on your wall.  Ask help from a parent for which way is best.  Then add as many photos or decorations as you want!  Enjoy!

Make Adorable Fall Decorations!

Are you into the “rustic” look? Do you want to make your house look a little more like fall? Are you looking for some simple Thanksgiving decorations? Then read on!…

Are you into the “rustic” look? Do you want to make your house look a little more like fall? Are you looking for some simple Thanksgiving decorations? Then read on! Today I am going to teach you how to make some classy, rustic decorations that will spruce up any Thanksgiving décor. If you are artsy or crafty, then you will love this fall themed DIY. It is super easy and practically free!

What you will need:

–          A glass container of some sort. You can even use the old glass from a candle.

–          Any kind of twigs or sticks. Go to your back yard or a park and collect sticks of any shape or size.7adbb978e7e47463f323e766f3b987af

Make sure that your glass container is clean and dry, or the glue will not stick. Cut the sticks so they are at assorted lengths. You can clean the sticks a bit so that the dirt doesn’t keep the twigs from sticking to the glue. Use hot glue to stick the twigs to the glass in a vertical fashion. Alternate the twig lengths and sizes so that it looks more natural. Once you have finished, you can use the decorations as candle holders, or you can just set them around your house to give it a more rustic, fall themed.

Happy fall!

Hey girls!  With summer here, most of us will be traveling and doing some pretty exciting things.  I know I’m not the only one taking a ton of pictures and creating a lot of memories with my friends and family.

To document these, I suggest keeping a summer journal!  If you travel a lot, writing down the places you go and the people you meet is a great keepsake and fun to look back at.  Any other exciting or memorable events you go to can be put in your journal as well.  You can print out your pictures, or develop them, and add them into your journal entry, too!Chelsea Crockett - Journal

Another fun thing about keeping a journal is that you can design and decorate it exactly how you want to!  Whether it’s simple and plain or overwhelmed by stickers and glitter, you can decorate it whatever way suits you.  If you have a Polaroid camera, taking pictures on that and quickly adding them in your entry give it a vintage look and is an easier way to develop your pics!

Usually journals are not very expensive and can be found at a nearby store like Target or Hobby Lobby.  Tweet or Instagram a picture of your Summer Journal and I’ll try and take a look at it! Enjoy!
