Dieting can be a tricky subject.  Some people aren’t sure how to do it quite right which can result in actually gaining weight or hurting your body.  There are certain myths that revolve around the topic of dieting and I wanted to clear up a few of them!  This way, you can get the most out of your dieting! 🙂

  • You should skip meals to lose weight faster.  DO NOT do this!  Skipping meals and eating less is not the way to diet.  There are certain diet plans that will sometimes have you eating more rather than less!
  • It’s not good to eat after 8 or 9 PM.  WRONG!  Whether it’s 3 pm or 3 am, your body will still metabolizing the calories you eat regardless.  Instead of not eating after 8, try to cut out that unhealthy midnight snack!
  • You have to go on a diet to lose weight.  This isn’t always true!  Simply eating healthy can still do the job just as well.  That being said, if you want to diet, find one that works for you!
  • You don’t have to exercise as long as you’re on a diet.  WRONG!  As I mentioned before, these two go hand-in-hand.  Of course, you can lose some weight if you’re solely dieting, but the best results happen when you’re both exercising and eating healthy!
  • As long as the label says low-fat, then you’re good to go.  WRONG!  Just because it’s low-fat doesn’t mean there aren’t other things you should be worrying about.  Labels can trick you so be careful!

  • It is absolutely necessary to have a daily skincare routine set in place! Your routine should include washing your face when you wake up and before you go to sleep at night.  Hold yourself to it!
  • Focus just as much on what goes in your body as to what goes on it. Watch your diet!  You don’t need to solely restrict your diet to healthy food, but monitoring the amount of junk you have every day doesn’t hurt!  Cutting down on foods high in fat and drinking lots of water will help more than you think.
  • Secret beauty tip: steam. Exposing yourself to steam such as a sauna, DIY steam facial etc., will help open up your pores.  They can get very clogged after days and days of wearing makeup even though you wash your face.
  • Don’t underestimate the power of toothpaste. Everyone knows the trick to get rid of pimples quickly.  Apply toothpaste to your pimple to dry it out and reduce inflammation!

A detox diet may seem like a perfect way to drop a few pounds. You might cleanse for a day, or multiple, to quickly lose some weight. There’s controversy on whether or not these diets are actually benefitting or hurting our bodies. After doing some research, I made a list of pros and cons to bust the myths about detoxing. So you can decide for yourself!

If you’re unfamiliar with the term, detox dieting is when you limit your intake to only fluids, vegetables, or fruit for hours or days at a time. One of the most popular ways of doing so is a juice cleanse. The purpose of these is to flush out or cleanse your body of any wastes or toxins, resulting in quick weight loss.Chelsea Crockett - Fruit

PROS – For the positives of detoxing, I can state the obvious: quick weight loss, eliminating toxins, cleansing your system, etc. If you limit your diet to solely fruits and vegetables, you’re bound to drop a few pounds within your diet. Any diet that reduces fattening, sugary, or processed food can positively affect your body, as long as you’re careful and do it the right way.

CONS – You might be thinking, are detox diets even necessary? The answer is no. Your body already has functions to get rid of any toxins or waste your body doesn’t need. They also aren’t recommended for teens since our bodies are still growing and need the nutrients and proteins.

So you decide for yourself! If you want a quick jumpstart on your diet, try it out! But if not, I suggest sticking to exercise and healthy eating :).

In this generation, almost everything is done, or can be done, on our phones. They’re even used for keeping our workouts on track and putting us on the road to a more healthy lifestyle! Since I’ve been keeping up with my daily exercise, I’ve found tons of free apps that help us achieve these goals. Here are some of my top favorites!

If you’re a runner, all of the running apps will work just about the same: tracking your distance, telling you your pace, saving your times, etc. But one app that I’ve found donates money to a charity of your choice for however much you run, walk, or bike. It’s called Charity Miles and it’s completely free! For Chelsea Crockett - Sworkitevery mile you run or walk the app donates 25 cents to the charity you pick.

Another free app that’s not only for cardio is called Sworkit. On this app, you can pick from four different types of exercises: strength, cardio, yoga, and stretching. The app encourages you to simply fit in at least 5 minutes of one of these a day. How motivating is that? Just 5 minutes! Of course, you can pick a workout that goes up to 60, but you’ve got to start somewhere! In each category, there are several workouts to choose from, as well, such as full body, full intensity cardio, yoga for runners, etc. Check it out!

Lastly, if you’re way of staying healthy is more on the dieting side, download Lose It! This help app helps you lose weight or simply maintain the weight you’re currently at. It tracks your calorie intake, lets you set goals and plans, and even tracks your steps if you want it to.

When I think of aloe vera I usually think of the stuff that I put on my skin after a sunburn!  While that’s one of its main purposes, it’s good for so much more than you would ever know!  Keep on reading to find out how you can incorporate aloe vera in your daily routine!

  • Did you know aloe vera can actually be a juice or water? It can be drank straight or added to your favorite smoothie! It is full of amino acids and minerals including A, C, E,Chelsea Crockett- aloe vera drink folic acid, choline, B1, B2, B3, and B6. Snacking can be the root of all evil. I snack when I’m bored, I snack when I’m doing homework, I snack when I’m not hungry, I snack ALL the time!  When you’re on a diet, just trying to eat healthy, or working out a lot, snacking can ruin all your hard effort.  Luckily, there are a few foods that are perfectly healthy to snack on.  There are a variety of nuts that are great for your body and have a handful of health benefits.  Keep on reading to find out what you should chow down on for your next snack! Chelsea Crockett- almonds

All nuts are pretty equal when it comes to calories. Although the fat content is high in nuts, it contains the healthy fat that your body needs.  A serving size can typically be measured by a handful and will fill you up.  For the healthiest option, avoid nuts that have been roasted in oil.  Instead, eat them raw or dry-roasted.  A few of my favorite nuts are almonds, peanuts, and pistachios.  They’re so great for a snack on-the-go or paired with a sandwich for lunch!

All nuts contain different vitamins and nutrients that are great for your skin, heart, and overall health. Almonds contain vitamin E, which is known to help improve the appearance of your skin.  It is also a heart healthy nut.  Listen up ladies, pistachios are known to keep hormones in check when you’re on your period!  They also contain fiber and potassium.  Other healthy nuts include walnuts, cashews, and macadamia nuts.

Next time you need something to snack on, reach for a handful of nuts!   Your body and stomach will thank you for it!
