I love doing my makeup…until it comes time to clean my makeup brushes. It can take forever and is a pretty messy process. I recently saw a tool that makes brush cleaning super easy, and it is the Sigma Brush Cleaning Mat. It has a textured surface that gets brushes super clean and makes them look brand new! The only problem with the mat? It is pricey. So, I went on YouTube and learned how to make my very own makeup brush cleaning mat for $5. Here is how!

What you will need:

  • Plastic clipboardbustle (2)
  • Glue gun

Head to the dollar store and pick up a plastic clipboard. The next step is to draw different textures onto the board with hot glue. Once your glue gun is warmed up and ready, draw some short straight lines down the center of the board with the glue. Next, draw on some zig zags. The goal is to create as many different shapes as possible to help clean every nook and cranny of your brushes. Next add small dots. Then add larger dots. The larger dots will be ideal for your larger and dirtier brushes. Once you have added your larger dots, cover the rest of the mat with different patterns so there is no empty space. Once the board is dry, it is time to try it out! Coat your dirty brushes with brush cleaning gel or shampoo and then rub them in circular motions against the mat. You should be seeing makeup streaming from the brushes. After you are done, just clip the handles of your brushes under the top of the clip board and leave them to dry for an hour or two.

Voila! Your brushes are as good as new, and you got to create a fun DIY to do the trick! Once your board starts to get grubby and dirty, you can simply throw it away and make a new one.

DIY Powder Makeup

As you all know, I love makeup. Actually, love is an understatement! Sometimes my love for makeup can have a negative side because it can cause my skin to break out. The harsh chemicals in some makeup products is not easy on my skin. I like to try and use natural makeup, but sometimes it is hard to find. Then, I found a recipe for homemade foundation powder makeup on lovesimply.me and I couldn’t wait to try it for myself! Here is how to make your very own foundation powder makeup.

Ingredients:foundationpowder21-682x1024

-Arrowroot starch (or you can use corn starch)

– Cocoa powder

– Ground cinnamon

– Ground nutmeg

– Ground ginger

– Bentonite clay

– Vitamin E

– Lavender essential oil

You have to tweak the recipe a bit to make it suit your skin tone, but this is how I made it to match mine:

  • 1/4 cup arrowroot flour/starch. (Add more to make a lighter powder)
  • 4 TB cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp EACHnutmeg and ginger (if you have more of an olive skin complexion you may need more)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp bentonite clay
  • 10 drops of vitamin e
  • 12 drops of lavender essential oil

Add your ingredients to a glass bowl (not metal), adding the arrowroot or corn starch first, and then whisk them all together. Test the color of the powder by placing a bit on your neck or face with your finger. If you have sensitive skin or just prefer using natural products, then this powder is perfect for you!

Let me know how it turns out for you!

DIY Crayon Lipstick

Are you ready for you mind to be blown?! Mine totally is. I saw a tutorial on how to make lipstick out of crayons and I knew I just had to share it with all of you! Now you can make lipstick in every color imaginable with just TWO ingredients! Here’s how:

All you need is coconut oil, Crayola crayons, and some containers to put your homemade lipstick in. You can clean out old lipstickmakeup containers and use ‘em! Choose the color that you would like to use and then remove the wrappers from the crayons. Break the crayons into about 4 pieces. Put a glass jar in the center of a pot and add water to the pot. Don’t get any water in the jar! Add about a teaspoon of coconut oil to the jar and put it on the stove. Warm it up slowly. Once the coconut oil has melted all the way, add your crayon. Add 1 piece of crayon per teaspoon. You can even mix and match colors and create your own shade! If you add too much crayon the lipstick it will be a little dry, and if you don’t add enough it will be sheer and glossier.  Play around with it!

This recipe is totally safe, too. Most lipsticks are made with petroleum which comes from oil, and crayons are made for children and are non-toxic. No worries!

Now go have fun mixing and matching colors to create your very own lipstick!
