Most of us are some type of athlete, which means hours of exercising and time at the gym.  Some people think it’s dumb to wear makeup while working out, but sometimes when you look good, you feel good!  Now I don’t mean to go all out with your makeup, but a natural, subtle look is perfect.

Stray Away from Sickness!

            Transitioning from winter to summer can be tough on our bodies.  Mother Nature can’t make up her mind, leaving us with a mix of cold and hot days.  Unfortunately, it becomes the prime time to be sick.  So what if you have a big event coming up or a vacation that you just can’t get sick for?!  No worries, there are plenty of ways to beat sickness.  Check it out!

            The most obvious ways not to get sick are to drink lots of water, get enough sleep at night, and stay away from sick people; but we already knew that, right?  I hope you’re doing those already!  For additional immune system support, exercising is the way to go!  It not only works your body, but it’s great for fighting away infection by strengthening the immune system.  Once you’re done with your workout, it’s time to load up on vitamin C!  This can be done in many ways: orange juice, Chelsea Crockett- working outvitamin C drink packets/vitamins, an orange, or even fruit snacks.  The vitamin C will start working right away.  Another way to fight infection is to stray away from toughing your face.  Your hands carry a lot of bacteria and by toughing places like your eyes and mouth, you’re more likely to get sick.

Staying away from sickness is easier than you’d think!  Next time you want to skip that morning workout or apply lip balm with your finger, remember…DON’T!

Running gives me such a release. It relieves my tension, my stress, and it sends my endorphins through the roof. I love learning tips and tricks on how to improve my form and my running techniques. Here are 3 ways to run like a pro!

 

  1. Learn proper form: It may not seem like a big deal, but having good form is uber important! If you run consistently with improper form, it can take a toll on your body and over time it can injure you. When you are running, keep your head stacked over your spine, relax your shoulders, and tighten that core.running-cheaper-than-therapy-square
  2. Fuel your body: running on an empty stomach is no bueno! You need the right amount of fuel, not too much that you cramp while you run, but not too little that you are running on empty. Eat a small protein packed snack about an hour before you run.
  3. Be consistent: When you don’t run for a while, you have to build back your endurance. If you want to stay fit, then you need to make sure that you are being consistent with your running. It is hard to get back in the saddle when you sit out for a while!

With summer just around the corner, it’s hard to find the motivation to study for finals.  The changing warm weather makes it even harder to stay in the library for…

With summer just around the corner, it’s hard to find the motivation to study for finals.  The changing warm weather makes it even harder to stay in the library for hours at a time.  It’s tough to avoid finals when they are usually a huge part of your grade!  Although there is nothing fun about studying, I’ve got a few tips and tricks to help make your next study session a little less painful!

Trying to cram all of your studying and work into one session can actually have a negative effect on your health and your grades.  It’s important to take breaks and give yourself time to breathe.  Although it may seem like a waste of time to leave your studying materials on your desk while you hit the gym, it will actually help in the long run!  Taking a break to exercise will increase blood flow and help improve your memory.  Don’t forget that your physical health is important too!

Make sure to snack!  Carrying around small, healthy snacks will give your brain the fuel it needs to keep on studying and retain information.  It is also very important to get enough sleep.  EvenChelsea Crockett- snacks for finals if you feel like you haven’t studied enough, close that textbook and hit the hay!  Lack of sleep will cause memory loss and confusion while taking a test or writing a paper.  Your brain cannot function properly if it’s running on empty!

Try studying with a group of friends!  Even if you’re not studying for the same test, just having other around will make you feel less lonely and give you more of a drive to study.  Just try not to talk or joke around the whole time!

Although finals may seem like a drag, be sure to treat yourself with proper care and reward yourself once the big test is over with!

80 Jumping Jacks

This workout will take you no more than 5 minutes, and you will be glad you carved out that little slice of time to start off your morning right! If you know that you are going to have a jam packed day and that you won’t have time to hit the gym or treadmill that day, then taking five minutes to knock this out will satisfy your daily workout regimen.

            Music is one of the best medicines for the body.  It can affect the brain in great ways!  Music can spark your memory.  Have you ever listened to a song and then remembered something in your past?  It’s incredible how you can remember something so long ago by just listening to part of a song.  Another mental benefit of music is stress reduction and relaxation.  Listening to music can give you an instant mood boost, which in return, makes you less stressed.  For some people, not all, it can even help you focus more on homework and studying.

            Music has some physical benefits as well! Listening to music while working out can cause a boost in your workout pace.  Not only will you reach your physical goals quicker, but you will burn more calories. Since music is a mood booster, it can also cause your immune system to stay up; therefore you won’t get sick as much!  Who would’ve guessed that music had all of these wonderful benefits?  Now pick up your iPod and listen away!

People think that you can only do crossfit in an expensive gym, but that is not the case! You can do a simple crossfit workout in your very own home. Here is a simple and easy crossfit workout that anyone can do at home.

                                                                                10 lunges

10 sit-ups

10 jumping jacks

Repeat this circuit 4-5 times and see results! It might not seem like a lot at first, but when you get to the end of round 3, you will be feeling the burn! I love the exhausted feeling I get after I workout. This circuit is also great for those days when you really want to work out, but either the weather is bad or you just have no motivation to go to the gym. Do it on the floor of your room! Anywhere!

I have been working out a lot lately. Exercising can be so rewarding, but you also need to keep in mind a few tips on how to get more from your workout. You don’t want all of your hard work to be in vain! Here are 5 tips for a better workout:

 1. Make it a routine: Once you get a routine down, it is much easier for you to keep your workouts up! Look at your schedule and pick a few set days a week that you will work out and don’t schedule anything for those days and times that you know you will be working out.

2. Get enough sleep: When you get enough sleep, you have the energy and motivation to keep working out! Also, when you get enough sleep your muscles have time to recover from your workouts, and your body is also much healthier when you get enough sleep.chelsea crockett working out

3. Eat well: As my PE teacher would say, abs are made in the kitchen! Getting in shape is 80% what you eat and only 20% exercise. Also, drink tons of water!

4. Get a work out buddy: When you have a workout buddy, they also work as your accountability partner and personal trainer. They will motivate you during your workout and you can both come up with ideas for the kinds of exercises you will do. Working out is so much more fun with friends!

5. Don’t lose faith: If you aren’t seeing results instantly, don’t give up! It takes a while for you to be able to see results, but you will FEEL the results instantly! You will have so much more energy and just feel happier! It is amazing what endorphins can do!

Hi Insiders,

            Many people hate the winter.  Cold winds, icy roads, and gloomy days are the cause of a bad mood in the winter.  So how can you keep your spirits high in the winter?!  Follow a few of my simple tips to kick away the winter blues.

  1. Keep the smell of peppermint around!  Studies show that the smell of peppermint can increase mood and decrease stress.  Try lighting a peppermint scented candle or rub some peppermint oil around your nose.
  2. Get some sunlight!  Yes, it might be cold, but on sunny days go outside!  Buddle up and go for a walk!
  3. Eat healthy.  Winter includes Thanksgiving and Christmas, which means lots and lots of food.  The average person gains 5 to 6 pounds during the holiday months.  Weight gain can lead to a decrease in mood.  Try to fill up on fruits and veggies.  Your body will thank you!
  4. Treat yourself!  Go get a pedicure or massage, spend your Christmas money and gift cards, or go out for a fancy dinner.  Make yourself feel good!
  5. RELAX!!!
  6. Get enough sleep at night.  When you get around 8 hours of sleep, you are more likely to be energized and happier the next day.  Jump in bed early!
  7. Exercise!  Exercising releases endorphins, hormones in the body that make you feel good and lifts your mood.
  8. Do something good for someone else!  The holidays are all about giving.  Volunteer at a shelter or make your parents a homemade presentChelsea Crockett- peppermint.  They will love it!

Don’t let the cold weather and gloomy days keep you down!  Get out, get up, and do something!  I promise, if you follow these tips, you’ll have the best winter ever!

I don’t know if you have noticed, but SPRING IS HERE!! And that means that summer is just around the corner. You know what that means? Swimsuit season is getting closer and closer! If you are looking for ways to tone up and get in shape for summer, look no further!

1. Drink water before every meal: By drinking a glass or two of water before every meal, you are filling up your stomach and making yourself feel more full! When you feel full, you won’t eat as much, and if you don’t eat as much, you will lose weight!

2. Do some sort of cardio twice a week: Cardio is key to becoming a toned beach goddess. It gets your heart rate up and gets your muscles moving! Some cardio exercises that I recommend are jogging, jumping rope, and swimming!how to prepare for summer 

3. Snack healthy: Healthy snacking is a really great way to keep your cravings away and not make you eat as much at your meals! Some healthy snacks are fruit, nuts, or even veggie chips! 

Remember Insiders, losing weight is 80% how you eat and 20% exercising. This means that, although exercising is important to staying healthy, how you eat affects you even more. Now get off the couch, grab an apple, and get your fitness on!
