It’s crazy how makeup can make a person look so different! While we want to look young and bright, sometimes makeup can make us look dull or even older (not in a good way). So how can we stop this from happening? Keep on reading to see if you’re applying makeup incorrectly!Chelsea Crockett- exfoliate

  • Don’t pass up primer! Primer minimizes your pores and keeps makeup on longer! You won’t have to worry about weird lines or big pores, especially around your nose.
  • Make sure you’re using the correct foundation. Don’t pack on too much powder or liquid foundation and make sure you are using the correct shade.
  • Don’t dye your hair all one color. If you go to a stylist, ask him/her to add warmth or another tone into your hair! It’ll help make your face glow!
  • Not exfoliating regularly will lead to a buildup of dirt and dry skin. By exfoliating, you’ll be giving your face completely new skin!
  • Wear SPF every day! While you may not notice how it’s changing your skin now, you will when you’re older!

Let’s feel youthful forever!

XOXO,

Surprisingly enough, some of your daily beauty habits aren’t making you more beautiful.  They could actually be dangerous!  Too many beauty products are abused, causing them to do harm instead of actually help.  Look below to see if you’re doing any of these dangerous beauty habits! Chelsea Crockett- over-exfoliating

  • Every girl wants bronzed, summer skin, but hitting the tanning bed can be detrimental to the health of your skin. Every time you tan you are killing healthy skin cells and increasing your chance of getting skin cancer. No tan is worth that!
  • Exfoliating is a great way to unclog pores and remove dead skin cells, but over-exfoliating or using a tough exfoliator can tear the skin and cause it to become more sensitive to products in the future.
  • Picking at zits is a deadly act. Once popped, peeling away at the dead skin will only cause the skin to take longer to heal or worse, scarring. Instead, leave it alone. It may look ugly, but the blemish will go away in no time.
  • Touching your face seems like a harmless task, but it’s actually a crime to your skin. Every time your hand touches your skin, you’re transferring whatever dirt or oil your hands have accumulated that day onto your face…clogging your pores.
  • If you use a lot of hair products, rinsing it out properly when you shower is important. Just washing it and quickly rinsing it is alright, but eventually the excess product will build up. Rinse your hair longer than you think you should.
  • Never sleep with your makeup on! When you get your beauty rest, your pores will clog leaving you an unpleasant surprise in the morning.

Taking care of your skin and body properly is so important for a healthy complexion!  Keep these in mind and you’re on your way to the best skin and hair you’ve ever had.

XOXO,

Chelsea

Winter: a time when the air gets dryer, the temperatures get lower, and our skin becomes dryer.  Oh the joys of winter!  Most people try to take care of their skin extra well during this time of the year, but many don’t realize that their efforts are actually causing damage to their skin.  Check out these common winter beauty mistakes to make sure you don’t do them yourself!  Chelsea Crockett- over exfoliating

  • Cold winter winds can leave our eyes dry and watery. Unless you plan on wearing sunglasses every time you’re outside, be sure to apply an ultra-rich moisturizing cream in the morning and night to protect your eyes from the chilly temperatures.
  • Did you know that taking a hot shower can actually be bad for your skin? I know I’m guilty of this! The hot winter can pull out moisture in your skin leaving it dry. Instead try a warm shower or be prepared to lather on the lotion.
  • When your skin gets dry and flakey, it’s easy to break out the exfoliator. Exfoliating will remove the dry, dead skin cells, leaving your skin smooth, but over-exfoliating can also get rid of new, healthy cells. Keep the exfoliating to once a week.
  • Replace alcohol based products with hydrating formulas.
  • Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you can’t get sunburned. Never forget your SPF, especially if you live in an area with high elevation.

Love your winter skin!

What You’re Doing Wrong to Your Skin: Part 2

Loving your skin is very important.  If you read my last article, “What You’re Doing Wrong to Your Skin”, you may have realized that there are a lot of harmful beauty regimes you may be using on your skin.  Your skin is so delicate, so to prevent these mishaps, check out these additional ways to save your skin from any harsh treatment!

  • Be careful when exfoliating!  Scrubs with thick jagged pieces can cause small tears on the surface of your skin.  Even using a wash cloth to exfoliate can cause damage.  Make sure to be gentle and wash in a circular motion.  If it feels like it’s working “too good”, then it’s probably doing some harm.
  • Wash your makeup brushes!  After countless makeup applications, your brushes are probably caked with makeup, and not to mention bacteria.  Bacteria from your eyes, mouth, and bathroom can build up on your brushes.  Invest in brush shampoo or a spray to keep them clean!Chelsea Crockett- makeup brushes
  • Do not rely on makeup wipes to clean your face.  Of course they are great for lazy nights or a makeup mishap, but they may leave irritants or chemicals on your skin since you are not rinsing with water.  Be sure to wash your face with soap and water!
  • Watch touching your hands to your face!  Your hands touch everything, which can create a buildup of dirt and oil.  Touching your face with unclean hands can create more oil, or worse, zits!

Paying attention to your skin is very important!  Treat it with care and it will pay you in return with a glowing complexion.

Love,

Chelsea
