If you’ve been up-to-date with my YouTube channel, then you’ve probably seen my video about which skincare products I’m going to take to college with me.  All of the products I featured in the video were purchased from Target, so they’re not super pricey but still good quality!  Here are some of my favorite skincare products that you can try for yourself!

  • Clean & Clear Facial Cleanser Makeup Dissolving Wipes.  Sometimes I get very lazy and don’t have the energy to go through my entire night routine. Chelsea Crockett - Clean & Clear If this is the case, I’ll use one of these wipes to remove all of my makeup, dirt, and oil of my face before I go to bed!
  • Clean & Clear Morning Burst Facial Scrub.  This stuff is my absolute favorite!  It has a citrus fragrance that is so refreshing and gives me a burst of energy to start my day.
  • Garnier Micellar Water.  If you’ve never heard of micellar water, you need to try it!  It works as a facial cleanser, makeup remover, or simply a skin hydrator.  It leaves my skin feeling so refreshed!
  • Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream.  I love this product to help get rid of puffy morning eyes.  This will definitely be helpful for early morning classes once school starts up again!
  • Aveeno Moisturizer.  Aveeno moisturizers are super hydrating and great for your skin (especially the Positively Radiant moisturizer with SPF 15!).  They have multiple different kinds to suit whatever your skin type may be!

I hope you enjoy these products and get the most bang for your buck while doing so!

Acne can be caused by a multitude of things. Anything from a bad diet to touching your face too much can be harmful to your skin. There are tons of different things we do daily that we don’t even realize are giving way to breakouts. Here are some avoidable actions that can prevent sneaky acne from showing up!

  • How many times do you use your phone a day? For me, I’m on my iPhone texting, uploading, and calling throughout my entire day. Our hands are covered in bacteria, and we transport that to our screens every time we send a text. Then we transport that to our face whenever we make a phone call! I suggest cleaning your phone every once in a while to eliminate any pesky bacteria.
  • Makeup Brushes. If you don’t make it routine to wash your makeup brushes regularly, bacteria could be hiding in them. Wash them occasionally to get rid of any built-up of bacteria.Chelsea Crockett - Makeup Brushes
  • Heavy Foundation. Caking on foundation will clog up your pores and cause breakouts. Use a lighter foundation or simply apply a smaller amount.
  • Heavy coffee drinkers beware! Coffee can throw off the pH of your skin and cause breakouts. Consume more tea as a substitute!
  • Lack of sleep. Lack of sleep is not only bad for your body and mind, but your skin as well! In order for your body to fight unwanted bacteria, get the recommended 7-9 hours of sleep!

If you’re struggling with acne and breakouts, I hope this was helpful!

Makeup remover is the best thing in the world when it comes to a quick fix for taking off your makeup. Some people confuse it as an every night substitute for washing your face which shouldn’t be the case! Others question if it’s hurting their skin much more than helping it. I did a little research and dug up some answers!

To sum up the overall answer, makeup removers are NOT bad for your skin as long as you continue washing your face after using them. Makeup removers cannot be Chelsea Crockett - Makeup Removersubstituted for your nightly face wash. This is where it causes a problem! Also, be a smart shopper when buying your product and pay attention to what ingredients are used. If it is an alcohol based remover, try avoiding it! They can sometimes dry out your skin and cause irritation. Look for oil-free products as well. Oil can clog up your pores and cause breakouts. I definitely recommend an oil-free makeup remover for those with oily or sensitive skin!

If you’re cursed with super sensitive skin, you have some more guidelines to follow. Makeup removers with fragrances can sometimes annoy and irritate your pores. BareMinerals is a good brand to look at when it comes to following sensitive skin rules!

What is your go-to brand for makeup remover? Let me know below!

3 Rules for Teenage Skincare

If you’ve been keeping up with my channel, you’ve probably seen my recent video about how I’ve finally been able to clear my acne! Obviously, the face wash and moisturizer I use are key in doing so, but there are other simple pointers that I didn’t mention in my video that help a lot more than you think! Here are 3 major rules that will help make your acne disappear!

  1. Avoid touching your face. Continually touching your face throughout the day reapplies bacteria and germs to your skin. Chelsea Crockett - MakeupThink of how many different things you touch a day without even thinking about it. You then touch your face unknowingly of the bacteria transferring to your pores!
  2. Pay attention to the products you use on your face. Obviously the face wash and moisturizer you use is going to play a part in clearing your acne, but a lot of the time breakouts tie in with what makeup you use.  In my video, I talk about Cureology and how it helped my skin.  You can take a quiz and receive medication that’s perfect for your type of acne.  Check out my video for more details!  As for makeup, if your skin is sensitive, try Clinique or Bare Minerals!
  3. Maintain a healthy diet and drink lots of water. You may think what you eat has nothing to do with your skin… WRONG! Foods with high concentrations of fat can clog up your pores in the long run. Obviously some McDonalds every once in a while won’t hurt, but diets with high amounts of fat will! Also, drinking water is beneficial for your whole body, including your skin! Be healthy and your skin will be too :)!

What “rules” do you follow when it comes to taking care of your skin? Let me know below!

The amount of different brands and products I’ve tried to clear up my acne is endless. It seems like all of my money is being used for the same results! I recently uploaded a video that talked about a brand that FINALLY cleared my acne! I thought I’d tell you all a little more in depth how these products can work for you, too :).

First comes first, checking out their website. After learning a little about the company, you’ll probably (at least I did!) want to start ordering your products! You have to begin by taking a medical questionnaire. Curology wants to know as much about your skin and what your skin goals are as possible! It’ll ask you detailed questions about your skin and medical history.Chelsea Crockett - Curology Perscription

Step 2 gets even more personal! They’ll want you to upload photos of your skin and your acne/breakouts. Your healthcare provider will review and examine them to pick the right products for your skin type specifically. The third part of the process is receiving your prescription such as the one above. They ship your products right to your front door! They say to apply them once every night before going to sleep.

You can track your improvement by uploading videos and discussing your progress with your healthcare provider. You can even update your products to keep up with your improvement. Let me know if you decide to try it out for yourself! It’s definitely worth it!

Love, Chelsea

Is Makeup with Skincare Benefits Worth Buying?

Recently in the world of makeup, more and more brands have come out with products that not only serve the purpose of making your eyes pop or covering up acne but actually eliminating breakouts and helping your pores! A lot of avid makeup-wearers are skeptical of the idea of makeup with skincare benefits, but I’m here to help clear up some of the confusion!

Some brands live up to their promises more than others. A lot of brands use skincare benefits to promote Chelsea Crockett - Skincare Makeuptheir products, when in reality they simply work just the same as regular products. With that being said, there are also brands that stay true to their promises! Sometimes the only way to find out is to try it out for yourself. Some products will work differently for other users. If you don’t want to spend money on trying it, read reviews about the product. I never used to do this, but it’s actually extremely helpful!

Although some makeup products actually do help with skincare, these in no way can replace your other skincare products such as face wash, moisturizer, medicine, etc. This makeup should just aid in the process of helping your skin, not take on the full job. A lot of products contain SPF, which is an amazing ingredient that can benefit your skin tremendously. Simply even using a small boost of SPF can prevent rays from damaging your skin.

Have you tried out makeup with skincare benefits? If so, give me your take on it below!

It’s crazy how makeup can make a person look so different! While we want to look young and bright, sometimes makeup can make us look dull or even older (not in a good way). So how can we stop this from happening? Keep on reading to see if you’re applying makeup incorrectly!Chelsea Crockett- exfoliate

  • Don’t pass up primer! Primer minimizes your pores and keeps makeup on longer! You won’t have to worry about weird lines or big pores, especially around your nose.
  • Make sure you’re using the correct foundation. Don’t pack on too much powder or liquid foundation and make sure you are using the correct shade.
  • Don’t dye your hair all one color. If you go to a stylist, ask him/her to add warmth or another tone into your hair! It’ll help make your face glow!
  • Not exfoliating regularly will lead to a buildup of dirt and dry skin. By exfoliating, you’ll be giving your face completely new skin!
  • Wear SPF every day! While you may not notice how it’s changing your skin now, you will when you’re older!

Let’s feel youthful forever!

Whether it’s with your college roommate or at a sleepover, it’s easy to get beauty products mixed up or forget to bring your own. Sharing anything from makeup to facewash doesn’t sound like a big deal, right? Wrong! Using other’s beauty products spreads bacteria and can even lead to infection! Check out which products should be avoided!Chelsea Crockett- sharing mascara

  • Eye makeup and mascara are the very worst to share with friends. Since your eye is watery, it is a trap for bacteria. Avoid an eye infection by keeping your eye makeup to yourself!
  • Admit it; most of us are guilty of not cleaning our makeup brushes. Brushes can hold on to bacteria and dirt, which can make yours or a friends face breakout!
  • Cold sores, sore throats, and other sicknesses can be transferred through lip gloss and lipstick! Keep those to yourself!
  • Facial cleansing brushes are a no-go when it comes to sharing. This can lead to a skin infection, especially if you have any type of rash or acne prone area! Anything that touches open sores shouldn’t be shared!
  • Razors are never meant to be shared…I mean, do I even need to go into detail on this one?

If reading this doesn’t make you want to keep your beauty products to yourself, then I don’t know what does! Let’s practice safe beauty!

No time for contouring?  No problem! Contouring is applying dark and light colors in specific areas of your face and blending them together.  While the end product looks amazing, it can be very time consuming.  Tontouring is the next best thing!  It’s like contouring, but much quicker.  Check out how you can have a flawless complexion in 1…2…3!Chelsea Crockett- tontouring

Tontouring is applying self-tanner to specific areas of the face to add depth.  The best part?  Gradually, the self-tanner will stay and you won’t have to apply it every day!  So how do you do it?  Start off with a base by applying self-tanner all over your face.  Next, apply a darker shade of self-tanner under the cheek bones, down the sides of your nose, under your nose, and along your hairline on your forehead.  I suggest using a gradual self-tanner for the base and a regular self-tanner for the tontouring; but be careful, regular self-tanner tends to be streaky, so make sure you blend it in well!  Once the self-tanner has dried, continue doing your makeup as you normally would.

Happy tontouring!

When talking about beauty and health, most people think about makeup, medicine, or products!  Believe it or not, some of the best beauty and health “products” can be found in the grocery store aisle!  Lemons are an amazing, tasty fruit that can be used to heighten your beauty routine and create a healthier you!  Check out how you can start incorporating lemons into your daily routine. Chelsea Crockett- lemon and honey

  • Lemons are full of vitamin C. If you’re feeling under the weather, add lemon juice to your water or tea for a quick boost!
  • If you have acne, cut open a lemon, add a dash of honey to the slice, and rub it over your skin. Leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water. If you’re trying to get rid of dark spots or scars, continue this process (minus the honey) daily until you see the results you’ve been looking for!
  • Mix together 1 tsp. with lemon juice for a homemade teeth whitener! Rub the paste on your teeth with a Q-Tip and leave on for 1 minute (this solution is very strong).
  • If you have oily skin, dab lemon juice on problem areas using a cotton ball before bed!
  • Create your own hair mask to get rid of dandruff by combining lemon juice with honey, coconut oil, and olive oil.
  • If you’re planning on being out in the sun all day, spritz your hair with lemon juice to naturally highlight it!

Next time you’re at the grocery store, pick up some lemons!  You’ll be happy you did!

Whether you’ve got facial scars as the result of bad acne, an injury, or a surgery, having a scar on your face can be very discouraging.  While some can easily be covered with makeup, others are nearly impossible.  Believe it or not, there is a way to reduce the appearance of scars naturally with your own at-home recipe!  It’s time to banish scarring once and for all!Chelsea Crockett- DIY scar remover

What you’ll need:

  • ½ teaspoon of baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon of purified water
  • Coconut oil

Create a paste by mixing together the baking soda and water.  Apply to the scarred area for 5 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.  Use your hands to rinse off the mixture instead of using a towel.  You’ll want to be as gentle as possible!  Last, apply coconut oil to the area to moisturize and reduce darkening! Hint: try this before bed, so the coconut oil has enough time to sit.  Repeat this process once a day until the scarring has reduced!

Ahhhh, coconuts… Not only do they taste great but smell even better! Recently, I’ve been hearing a lot about coconut oil and the benefits of it so I decided to put it to the test!  Coconut oil is filled with plenty of multi vitamins and nutrients. There are tons of different uses for it but I picked a couple particular ways to give it a go!

Chelsea Crockett - Coconut Oil ScrubThe first use is a healthy hair mask.  This is a life saver! First, you start with dry hair.  Take about 1/2 tablespoon of coconut oil and rub it between your hands.  Start with the ends of your hair and begin massaging in the oil.  Cover your strands with the oil from top to bottom.  Use a large tooth comb and comb the oil through your locks.  Next, wrap your head in a warm towel and seal it with a shower cap.  Leave this treatment on for about 30-45 minutes.  (I have a friend that even sleeps with it on her head overnight!). Shampoo twice to make sure all of the oil is removed.  Voila!  Your hair will feel soft, shiny, and renewed.

The other use is a coconut oil lemon scrub.  You mix 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of coconut oil, and 1 teaspoon of lemon zest.  This will make enough of the scrub to last for quite some time.  Be sure to place it in a glass airtight container.  Use the scrub at night before bed and then apply your evening moisturizer.  It really helps to exfoliate and give your skin a glow.  The oil helps to add nutrients to your delicate facial skin without harshly drying it out.  The wonders of coconut oil seem to be endless.  Let me know below how you use it!

Surprisingly enough, some of your daily beauty habits aren’t making you more beautiful.  They could actually be dangerous!  Too many beauty products are abused, causing them to do harm instead of actually help.  Look below to see if you’re doing any of these dangerous beauty habits! Chelsea Crockett- over-exfoliating

  • Every girl wants bronzed, summer skin, but hitting the tanning bed can be detrimental to the health of your skin. Every time you tan you are killing healthy skin cells and increasing your chance of getting skin cancer. No tan is worth that!
  • Exfoliating is a great way to unclog pores and remove dead skin cells, but over-exfoliating or using a tough exfoliator can tear the skin and cause it to become more sensitive to products in the future.
  • Picking at zits is a deadly act. Once popped, peeling away at the dead skin will only cause the skin to take longer to heal or worse, scarring. Instead, leave it alone. It may look ugly, but the blemish will go away in no time.
  • Touching your face seems like a harmless task, but it’s actually a crime to your skin. Every time your hand touches your skin, you’re transferring whatever dirt or oil your hands have accumulated that day onto your face…clogging your pores.
  • If you use a lot of hair products, rinsing it out properly when you shower is important. Just washing it and quickly rinsing it is alright, but eventually the excess product will build up. Rinse your hair longer than you think you should.
  • Never sleep with your makeup on! When you get your beauty rest, your pores will clog leaving you an unpleasant surprise in the morning.

Taking care of your skin and body properly is so important for a healthy complexion!  Keep these in mind and you’re on your way to the best skin and hair you’ve ever had.

XOXO,

Chelsea

Girls with sensitive skin know the ultimate struggle. Finding products that won’t break your skin out can sometimes seem near impossible! All natural or organic products are the best, and sometimes the only, way to go for those with sensitive skin. Here are some pluses and positives to all natural products!

  • Sensitivity. The main reason, which already stated, is that organic ingredients in these products will help avoid irritation. Less breakouts, reduced redness, smoother skin… sign me up!
  • Earth-friendly. The ingredients in all natural products are manufactured organically, making them healthier for your skin and the planet! They reduce the amount of chemicals in your face products that would normally go down the drain or in the air.Chelsea Crockett - Organic Makeup
  • External and Internal. Organic products not only help to clear up your breakouts or reduce blemishes, but also do wonders under your skin. I read online that they increase collagen production, which is the protein that keeps your skin’s firmness and elasticity. So while your face is clearing up, your skin will be thanking you as well!
  • Compatibility. Natural products adapt better to your skin and are safer to use. Surprisingly, the skin is the largest organ of the body. It’s healthiest to use products that match well with your skin, steering clear of any negative side effects!
  • Chemical-free. With organic products, you don’t have to worry about any nasty chemicals being applied to your body. Most are naturally manufactured without any use of chemicals or toxins.

What types of natural products to you use? Let me know below and I might just try them out myself :)!

Did you know that there is a right way to wash your face? Well, according to many beauty experts, there IS! There are a few key things to keep in mind when you are cleansing that façade of yours, and I am here to make sure you are completely filled in on what they are. Clean skin= clear skin!

Here are some steps to take to take when washing your face.

  1. Start off by washing your face with warm water and a cleanser. Dry your face with a clean towel.wash-face
  2. Apply facial toner and wait for it to dry. Toner is great for those who have oily skin.
  3. Next, apply any acne medications or topical treatments. If your dermatologist has prescribed you an acne prescription, apply it now!
  4. Apply a moisturizer. Moisturizer is so so so crucial! I like to use coconut oil as my moisturizer on occasion. It helps heal my acne scars and is a great anti-aging treatment! Also, moisturizer is important because dry skin actually makes your skin produce more oil, so those with oily skin beware!
  5. If you are preparing to put on makeup, apply a makeup primer!

Boom, you are done! You have now washed your face like a total pro. Like I said earlier, having a clean, moisturized face keeps acne away and does wonders for your skin!

Let me know if these tips help you keep a squeaky clean face!

XOXO, Chels
